Visited at end of August 2018 with wife and two kids in early teens. Great food, including some interesting additional dishes which you will not see on a typical restaurant menu. Nice touch is the taster dishes provided, so you can adjust the spice and herb content if you wish (we didn't). Owner clearly interested in making sure customers have a good experience.A bonus point is that it is an easy 10 min walk south of the Premier Inn (Leicester North West).

Booked on a Friday afternoon for that evening. Staff very helpful.9 of us (2 small kids, 3 teenagers, 4 adults).Very friendly and helpful staff. Food was prompt and excellent. Samples of main course arrived and were really useful - 1 was changed to a bit less spicy - one was made a bit creamier!Perfect, relaxed evening meal - well done.Vegan was catered for without problem or fuss.Good value for money also.

We've been a couple of times since the new owner took over in February. The food and service are every bit as good. The second time was on a Friday and it was busy but the service still good. The best part is the bar and ante-room area - a cut above your average curry house. I know some curry snobs who think it's only authentic if the decor is from the 60's and the clientele dressed in tracksuits but when I go out for a meal I like somewhere with a bit of class. This is definitely it.

Sands is an excellent Indian restaurant, and one that we frequently visit. The staff are always so welcoming. The food is excellent and the service second to none. The kitchen is amazing and so well organised, we often pop in to thank the chefs personally. The 'taster' dish is a great idea; i.e. a small sample of the main meal you have ordered comes to your table whilst you are enjoying your appetizer and gives you the opportunity to say if the spices are just right or not. So if you think it is too hot, you can ask them to make it milder, and if you want it spicier, you can ask for that too. We go every month, either the two of us, or with friends and family. We can thoroughly recommend this restaurant.

I spent nearly £30 on 2 chicken tikka masalas a mushroom rice, a portion of chips, 2 keema nans it came to £28.70 and they kindly gave me 10% off (being sarcastic) The chips were from a frozen packet and were not hot, the nan bread were of mince meat when advertised as minced lamb went cold in less than a minute and the tikka masala was not a full chicken breast in one portion. To me there was a full chicken breast in both portions for the money it was disgusting and it was the first and last time I will be going.

Decided to use this restaurant because of some good reviews but was extremely disappointed both in the size of portions and the taste. I had a tandoori chicken and if it was a half chicken it must have been the size of a quail, most disappointing and with a bland taste. Starter was sand's chicken goujons which I must say was very tasty but there was only three small goujons and at £6 was definitely not worth the money. The rice was awful and the only part I enjoyed was the nan bread. I certainly won't use Sand's again!!!

Excellent staff, a tad pricey but overall a solid experience. The food was excellent, once seated the food arrived promptly. Atmosphere is good, no groups of drunks but a nice and relaxed aura around. Be sure to book to avoid disappointment. I'll highly recommend the Fish Tawa, delicious!I'll give it 4/5 due to the price of the fish option for Curries. £12.95 is steep but delicious none the less.

On their website they state “In these uncertain times whereby personal compromises become a necessity, we at Sand’s offer no such compromise” unfortunately my experience wasn’t to a high standard as the website would have you believe. Scoring:Value for money – 1.5/ 5 (poor for the food quality)Food – 2.5/5Service - 0.5/5Venue 5/5 Issues with the service: The venue was pre-booked for a bridal shower/hen do evening, and a table set for 20. We came around 6:30 but was served food around 8:40. It took around 40 mins from arrival before anyone took our order. We occupied around half their seating so you would hope that they would have been prepared. They actually served 4 couples before my table was served even though most of them came in a good while after we were seated. By 8.40 half of our group had been served for some reason! I had to chase down my food. I was told twice that my food was coming “now.” It didn’t. My taxi that they booked arrived before my food. I got my full meal before my table did because I had to rush out, and the other half the group who had already been served, were finishing their food by the time I left!!!!!Issues with the food: I ordered Chicken Tikka Massala, boiled rice and garlic naan which came to £12.40.The Chicken tikka was mostly sauce - the flavour was alright but was an unusual bright red and the rice was slightly undercooked. The portion of the rice was just over a medium sized fist, which doesn’t work with the ratio of the (mostly sauce) meat dish they gave, which was 3 times that!!The naan was quite flat (it was closer to Roti than what I’d expect for naan) and slightly smaller than a medium sized plate for £2.75- oh yes and there was a bit of coal on it which I had to pick out, but at least that shows the cooking method. The consistency of the naan was nice but I don’t think that it was worth my £2.75. Advice: Don’t go as a group and be prepared to wait.

Everything about Sands is amazing. The menu is good and varied but if you want something else, just ask. My daughter, husband and I went after a matinee theatre. Luckily they open quite early at 5.30 but still we weren't first to arrive. There was also a lot of people waiting for take aways. The restaurant is spacious, uncluttered and modern. The monogrammed napkins are silky smooth and table cloths posture white. Extraordinary design of cutlery with handles at 90° angle to the business end. My husband is gluten intolerant so we mentioned it and they took great care to make his dish suitable, whichever he chose. I like Dahl curry made with lentil and it wasn't on the menu, so I asked and they made one specially. It was delicious. The service was efficient and friendly. Our waiter was Portuguese and happy to discuss the Portuguese origins of Goan curry as my daughter had visited Goa and liked the dishes. Only tiny tiny quibble. No hot cloths or finger bowls till clear-away so had to wash sticky hands in bathroom.

This restaurant had been recommended by indian friends and being fairly conservative West Country eaters we were was unsure, espcially as one of us is allergic to chilli and most hot food, There was no need to worry, the menu shows the talent and flexibility of the chef, you are invited to choose a type of meat or fish and then indicate what regional indian style you would like the chef to cook it in. With advice from the waiter it is possible to choose from a wide range of interesting dishes without touching wither chilli or curry. Food arrives slowly because much cooking is not only when you order but we were impressed to be offered a little taster of the dish we had ordered before it was finally served, in my case I found it too spicy, no problem, an alternative was prepared at once at no extra charge. There are some really tasty griddle fired, chilli free dishes on offer, Not only was service impeccable, but the waiters with infinite patience , coped with our 5 month old grandchildren, supplying, high chairs, water, wipes, smilles .. without a blink. this is the place to go if you stay at one of the local hotels, e.g. one of the nearby Premier Inns. We shall make a detour to go back to this place next time with venture "up North"

Amazed at all the brilliant reviews, one of the worst Indian restaurants I've been to. Went with partner and friend, their meal was average, mine was appalling. I ordered the lamb biryani. The 'taster' was a small dish of some kind of tomato slop- allegedly sauce, not the biryani. The latter was a huge mound of rice, carrots, chunks of peppers, onions, peas with a few bits of 'lamb'-so nothing in the way of an authentic biryani. The taste was at best bland. We complained to the waitor who took one look at it and assumed it was a vegetable biryani-obviously, in the kitchen one size fits all and meat or whatever is added. We weren't offered anything by way of recompense. In addition, the actual restaurant feels like a canteen, with no atmosphere whatsoever. Obviously, we will not be going back again.

Visited Sands for the first time after various positive reviews and I wasn't impressed at the slightest. We ordered a chicken sizzler type of dish which is meant to be a sharer for two and a single starter dish, and they were both exactly the same size for double the price! A tiny portion for a sharer in comparison to the other 100's of indian restaurants I've been to which was disappointing. When questioning this, nothing was resolved and they replied with 'that's the set dish size' with no resolution for the problem. Food was also bland, so we left after the poor starters!

Nothing prepared me for this lovely dinner as first impressions are so modest. From entering the light and modern reception and bar to the simple dinning room it all is very understated until you meet the staff. You are immediately greeted and made to feel welcome. Staff are there when you want them and do check backs at regular but natural moments. The plates, glasses and cutlery are contemporary and a real nice touch. I would happy have these at home! The menu is extensive and has as many house specials as popular and common Indian dishes. The style of the menu is simple: choice a meat and match it with the preparation of your style and a sauce and there is plenty to choice from. We shared a mixed grill starter and the chicken strips stood out for me. Thin strip of fillet coated in a gooey potato and herb mix and fried to perfection; lovely. At this stage you get a taster / teaser of you main course, which is a nice surprise and gets you ready for what is to come.My main course was a chef's specialty, mild to medium spiced (yes, I should have remember the name...) and combined with lovely fluffy lemon rice made he perfect meal for me.The service was great and our drinks were topped up when we needed it. As we didn't have any room for after or coffee the bill was promptly presented. This restaurant was highly recommenced to us and now I can see why. I will go back here and happily recommend this to family and friends/

Have been a few times now to eat in the restaurant and ordered takeaways, we've ordered something new each time and have never been disappointed! They bring out a sample of the sauce to taste first to ensure the heat is to your liking which I think is a great touch.I would recommend the sizzling fish platter to start!!

We dropped in here for this months curry club outing.Have to say the food was good and it was a nice touch that they gave us a taster of our main, whilst we had our starters, to make sure they were the right heat and taste.Staff were helpful and friendly and the food delivered in a timely manner. Certainly recommend if you are in the area.

We use this place regularly and have never had a bad meal or service. All the dishes taste very different and their regional specialities are great. I didn't have any food this good in 3 months in India a few years back. Great service too. If you're eating in they bring a little sample of each dish out before its ready so you can adjust the heat to your liking.

Saturday night in with friends who came up from London. We decided to stay in and have an Indian meal whilst we watched New Zealand play France at Rugby. Ordered take away from this place. NEVER AGAIN !!!!!!!!Chicken Karai, no taste, not spicey at all, chicken over cooked and hard.Chicken Tawa, no taste, not spicey at all, chicken over cooked and hard, may as well have been in same container as the karai.Chicken Jalfrezi, no taste, not at all spicey, might as well have been a korma!!!!!Chicken Tikka Birhiani, tasteless, absolute disappointment.Pilau rices, very nice, nothing good to put on them though!!!! Naans, OK, nothing any good to dip them in. Will definitely give this place a miss in the future. Food rubbish, not as I described it last night though, words were a little bit more explicit !!!!! Avoid this place like the plague. Disgruntled customer from Groby.

This was a sort of reunion with old friends. The food was good but it took an hour from sitting down at the table to get our main course. We were left while waiters dealt with a busy restaurant. Not ideal but didn't spoil the night.

We've visited sand before and experienced the same problems the welcome from staff was poor almost ignored by the bar man took us an age to get a drink even though the place was almost empty and just as long to get a menu. But on the brighter side the food was delicious just a shame about the staff

To avoid the dreadful Groby island traffic jams at the moment my partner and I have separately taken a detour through Glenfield and driven past this restaurant every day for a fortnight and felt we must give it a go. So pleased we did. Lovely modern surroundings. Wonderful food and friendly service. We had a lovely evening and will definitely return.

Visited here for the first time this evening and wasn't disappointed - the food was very tasty and reasonably priced - portions are aLso big so certainly left feeling full! The staff were all very attentive and friendly. Only reason I can't give 5 * is that we had booked a table for 7,30 and when we arrived we were told to take a seat in the bar ... We sAt there for 20 minutes before being taken to our table with no explanation or apology.

Have been to sands many times and never been disappointed. The restaurant is fantastic very modern and nothing like a typical India restaurant. The food is even better I would recommend the chicken hydrabadi really tasty curry but have tried a few things of the menu and it's all good. You receive a small taster of your curry before your main and the staff are more than happy to tweak a curry to your liking. Have used take a way service numerously and food is always just as good as eating in. Can not recommend highly enough!

I've been here on a few occasions and it never disappoints. This time it was for a friend's birthday so we were a big party. You're always made to feel welcome and all the waiters are very friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. There's s great choice of starters...however, they are huge so be warned if you're expecting a little portion! I can recommend the fish sizzler sharer..just enough for 2 of you! When you've chosen you're main, they bring out a little sample for you to try so you can get the spice/heat to your liking! A great idea! My friend wasn't keen on her choice so changed her order with no hassle at all. The mains, again, are generous sizes and everyone loved their choice. I would definitely recommend Sands to you...you won't be disappointed!

went here on a works night out, the bar area is nice a light and ample comfy seating for all, clean and friendly staff with a wide range of drinks on offer.once shown to our table we were a little squashed but managed all the same. ( maybe for larger groups a better lay out should be thought of.staff were efficient and prompt with food orders so that was a bonus.all food looked and smelt lovely and starter portion sizes we more like mains.everyone seemed happy with theirs and I was certainly with mine.my only complaints is that their chicken tikka was tasteless, and the fish curry seemed like fish ends not fresh flakes but other that that all was good and got the thumbs up from everyone else.drinks flowed and a good night was had by all.

Excellent quick stop for a curry. Will definitely return. Only down side was that chicken tikka had been pre cooked so was over done and a bit dry. Loved the idea to bring a pre service taste of the main dishes ordered to check it will be to your liking.

I chose this restaurant for its location being my local indian and was struck by how good it is. The staff were very polite and friendly and on ordering our food told us they would softly bring out tasters. This is a great idea as they brought out samples of your curry sauce to taste and make sure you were happy with your choice. We loved ours but could tell that they would happily change our order if we hadn't. Have since been back for takeaway with a friend who was amazed at the food. Best indian I've had in a long time

We went as family of four adults on Sunday evening. The place was quiet. We ordered our food and waited while having our drinks. The starter was ok but the authentic Indian taste was not there. This should have been warning! The waiter bought out our dishes in four small tasters to try – first time I have come across this. My wife pointed out to the waiter that the taste was not and lacked spices and salt. But when the actual meals did arrive there were no improvements. It seems that the tasters were just there for impression (and novelty) only! Lamb Zeera was ok but too dry. Chicken Tawa was good but not enough sauce. Chicken Tikka Bhuna bit bland but ok. But Chicken Jalfrezi was just bland and tasteless. All mains lacked spices and salt. Garlic Nan had chunky garlic shredded on top.The place is nicely decorated and welcoming. The portions were good size compare to many Indian restaurants but the food was too bland and tasteless for our liking. The prices were bit higher compare to other similar restaurants. I don't think we will be going there again as we have abundance of good Indian restaurant in Leicester.

Myself and my brother popped down from Glasgow to visit our father and on the first night we had a very good meal in sands of glenfield. The food was all incredibly tasty. A few poppadoms and dips to kick off while we waited on our starters of lamb cutlets, cinnamon duck and tandoori duck...all very nice indeed and no fat left on anything which we appreciated. For mains all lamb dishes I ordered the hydrabadi and I think the others were a tawa and a jaipuri, we ended up sharing all our starters and mains between the 3 of us all 3 dishes were delicious and we found it good that a taster was brought out to try before your main dish arrived allowing you to make adjustments if you found it too mild or too hot or simply had ordered the wrong thing and didn't like it I suppose lol. Very tasty indian food and all the lamb was amazingly tender and moist really melt in the mouth. My only little issue and it is just little it was only me who bothered with it was that there seemed to be too much oil rising and floating on top of the curries, if the curries were less oily this would honestly have been a faultless 5 star indian meal to rival anything else uk wide. The service was first rate very friendly and on the ball without being too intrusive. It was very busy and I can understand why it's so popular we really enjoyed it.

We visited last Saturday (25th April) with some friends and sadly wouldn't go again. We had heard good reviews about this place but were disappointed. from the wait for food, to the actual food nothing was particularly good. We had to send several items back that weren't up to scratch and then we were over charged for drinks we hadn't had. With so many good Indians in and around Leicester we won't be returning.

Not been here in a long time, ordered today for a Lamb Biryani, Vegetable Thali & Lamb Karahi and we will definitely back! Portion sizes are large (I’ve saved half of mine for tomorrow was so much!) Food tasted incredible, thank you very much! Lovely service too, ordered online and they even gave us a courtesy call to let us know they’d received our order and changed a meal free of charge for us as we couldn’t find the Karahi on the list. Thanks again!

We have recently rediscovered Sameeha after being regulars before lockdown. The staff are all lovely, really friendly and welcoming. The food is beautiful and always nicely presented. Excellent service too. It's a take- your- own alcohol place; as it happens the people I go there with don't drink but it does keep the cost of a night out down if you do. We will definitely be back!

The Indian Gatelocation-icon31 Watergate LaneIndian

Well, first of all and very important. This is no longer the Indian Gate, it’s the Maharaja and the sign goes up on Saturday. This is really important, the Indian Gate was the worst Indian take away I have ever used, and I gave it 3 attempts, with detailed criticism then have not been since, very disappointed. A couple of days ago we got another take away menu through the door and it mentioned Cardomon Lounge, Narborough. I love Indian food and read the menu with glee, all looked good, different and very affordable. I said to my wife ‘if only our takeaway, just round the corner’ was anything like this. Anyway, picked my food and prepared to set off for Narborough. My wife then picked up the flyer to make her choice. Then she let out a loud ‘oh’. What, I asked, she told me the amazing news that Maharaja was opening on Watergate lane. Wow.Tonight was the big night, made my choices, ( standard for such a big test) Chicken Jalfrezi, madras hot, mushroom Bhaji, mushroom pilau rice. I had my own home made chapatti’s so none of them required. And the verdict, awesome, amazing and about time too.The ordering app needed a tweak, which they did immediately and the food was as close to perfect as possible. Thanks guys, I will be back.
