Salt Cafe in Edinburgh, City of

We booked online for a weekend brunch and seated at the cozy far end section. Price is high and portion size is not generous. Presentation of the plates are great but not the taste. Fluffy pancakes itself is typical and not amazing. But the yogurt and campote shines. Full breakfast again typical and not amazing. Only the mushroom on the plate worths to be recommended. It’s highly overrated and overpriced for the full breakfast and the pancakes. If you live nearby you might want to walk-in and try. I wouldn’t recommend to book in advance and not worthy to come across the town only for its food. There’re much better options out there.

We loved it here. The staff were great and the food was wonderful. My husband had the full cooked breakfast and I had the smoked haddock with a chessy sauce and a poached egg - absolutely delightful. The coffee was good as well. I could have eaten anything on the menu. It was definitely my sort of place.

Must. Go. Back. Not a terribly clever acronym on my part but our first visit was sensational. It kicked off with the perfect sharpener: a Classic Bloody Mary rated 7 on the SALT Scoville heat scale. Then followed an outstanding Butcher's Breakfast which comprised dry-cured back bacon, Salt signature sausage, Fruit Pig black pudding and haggis, mushroom fricassée, two free-range eggs and house-made sriracha baked beans. Be sure to order sourdough toast fried in beef fat rendered on the premises with Salt's own superb tomato, fennel and chilli butter. A glass of raw, cold-pressed orange juice rounded off our perfect start to the day. If you're heading to Edinburgh later this month for the Festival and Fringe put SALT on your to do list alongside Frank Skinner at Assembly George Square and Megan Stalter at Gilded Balloon.

Like its pun-packed menu and pancake-stacked plates, Salt is full of character and taste. Aside from a banging brunch, highlights included chic decor and stellar staff. My only regret? Not asking for a boozy version of the Dirty Chai Latte. Next time.

Oh my word! Salt Cafe for the win! Husband annd I stopped in anfter ann overnight flight to Edinburgh and the joys of driving a stick shift on the opposite side of the road. We were tired and hungry. We were greeted by such a sweet girl and our wait staff was perfect. I began with a homemade elderberry iced tea - it was out of this world delicious!! Hubby had an Americano and the Nice to Meat you Hollandaise. It was phenomenal! Should be entered into a contest!!!! I had the French toast and bacon which was equally delicious. I’m not usually a fan of any type of Eggs Benedict, my view has changed thanks to Salt Cafe’s delicious hollandaise sauce and homemade white sausage. Wow!! I can’t recommend this adorable little cafe enough!!

Absolutely amazing experience. Me and two of my friends went there on our last day in Edinburgh. The menu is not huge (wich is a good thing) but you still have such a hard time deciding what to get because every dish sounds like it's going to be awesome. The food itself left us completely in awe so we stayed longer and ordered another round just to get to experience more of it. Calories? The food and the welcome were excellent. This was the best breakfast I have had in a very long time. The eggs were rich and the bacon tasted great. The buttermilk pancakes were light and delicious.

Search no more, this is THE best brunch in Edinburgh. From friendly staff, clean restaurant and delicious Scottish staples, had some of the best coffee I’ve ever had here and you could taste the freshness in everything you ate.
