Best curry establishment I have experienced. Regularly have takeaways and often eat inside. Food excellent and not typical bog standard stuff you find in most restaurants. Service excellent and portions generous. Cannot recommend this establishment highly enough.

We have hunted for good Indians in London and having lived there for 10 years this is still one of our absolute favourite Indian restaurants

How could you call this indian food? Ordered takeaway for Chicken Tikka and Sambar as I had bread and rice at home. Very mild seasoning and a lot of cream for tikka curry and little to no seasoning in Sambar. It was like eating lentils porridge. So disappointed with the order

Fantastic properly authentic South Indian food, incredible complex flavours. We are new to the area but we have already been many times as the food is just so good!! Lovely service too in a small restaurant. Can’t recommend it enough, just brilliant. Our favourites are chicken makhani, the paneer and the aubergine curry - divine. Our go to restaurant & where we take everyone that visits us!! ☺️

Having read the reviews was expecting more. The menu is somewhat different than your usual curry house offering. A great selection of fish dishes but none of the traditional dishes you would expect. The starter of beef chilli fry was small but nevertheless full of flavour as was the lamb trio. We had a basket of poppadoms which came with the tiniest spoon size dishes of dips costing £3.95. The lamb shank was also a small portion served in a bowl of curry sauce. The tandoori salmon was the easily the best dish both in quantity and flavour. The restaurant was extremely quiet and the service was slow. I was surprised to see that a 10% service card had been added to the bill automatically. Had I noticed that at the time I would not have paid it.

I've only ever had takeaways from this place but the Syrian Beef Curry is possibly the best thing I ever eat! Pretty spicy, which suits my tastes - it's incredible!

Brilliantly inventive and tasty Keralan curries, try the lamb shanks, the Dabba Murgh Indian road curry, the mango vegan and more....and the smiles of the young ladies who work there are lovely, while they wait patiently for people to choose their meals ...try to fig and coriander naan.

We regularly order a takeaway from this restaurant and have never ever been disappointed with the quality of the food. However, yesterday I collected our order two main meals accompanied by rice - absolutely delicious but spoilt by poppadoms which had obviously been cooked in old oil tasting and smelling discusting!! False economy!

Wow! I highly recommend this restaurant to everyone. I first dined at this restaurant in 2022 when I was working away in Cardiff and the food was exceptional, I have eaten here at least once, if not twice a week, on every visit since. The food is exceptional, perfectly presented, and tastes amazing. The restaurant manager, Anand, is polite, friendly and very welcoming. The food is reasonably priced and never disappoints. The Chicken Tikka Masala dish is my absolute favourite. I look forward to my next visit!

I ordered a lamb rogan josh they sent out a completely different lamb curry which was absolutely spicy like eating a raw chilli disgusting they forgot my can of coke to go with my food first and last time I order from here again I seen all good reviews so gave it a try what a mistake minging the food ,£20 in the bin Uneatable food gross wouldn’t recommend disgusting

First time I ordered from here. It wasn’t the best I’ve ever had and will probably stick to my usual Indian instead, but also wasn’t the worst. Chicken Tikka Masala was a little on the runny side and extremely spicy. There wasn’t much chicken which was disappointing . It still tasted ok though considering. Chips & Naan bread were nice but coconut rice wasn’t the best nor was it very coconut-like. The portions were also really small compared to other Indian takeaways. I won’t rush back here but food was ok and delivery arrived within an hour.

Heard so much about this place so gave it a go and wasn't disappointed. The service is top quality, waitress was very knowledgeable on the dishes . The menu is so different to other curry establishment's and so tasty . Cracking pint of cobra as a side dish 😊 . Went for the Syrian beef curry , described as tasty and spicy and it lived up to it , chips as a side too . My girlfriend went for the malabar biryani with medium curry sauce, it looked amazing as the biryani rice bowl came with a nan bread over the top of it , we had a lamb nan bread between us . Give this place a try , it will surprise you ❤️

First of all the staff in both restaurants are genuinely warm and hospitable. Ambiance is pleasant and clean. I come there for a particular dish I have been trying in every South Indian restaurant since Mirchi stopped doing it the way it was superbly done until about 2017. I would say this place comes to the closest in preparation of that dish. Great Kerala style food and so pleased I discovered it

Firstly - the reviewers who complained about the lack of biryani and tikka masala should read, learn and expand their narrow cultural knowledge and horizons - they may learn to love life a bit more Secondly - please don’t come here expecting to find your ‘traditional’ curry house menu Finally - do come here if you appreciate amazingly cooked food The first time I tried Kerala cuisine was at the famous Tharavadu restaurant in Leeds - so good I went back in the same week I was there So, I couldn’t believe it when I saw we had a Kerala restaurant in my home city And it did not let me down I admire the fact they offered tasting menu’s as it’s clear people aren’t accustomed to this type of cooking - it’s a good move All the guys I was with (the traditional Korma, Bhuna, Tandoori eating types) were completely blown away by it Im not going to spend time complimenting the tenderness of the chicken dish, the succulent seafood plate or the ridiculous dessert Because I want you to try it for yourself We had Taster Menu 2, because my brother heinously doesn’t like lamb But I have full intentions of returning to try their Tasting Menu 1 and of course the individual mains Oh…the decor is cozy and modern and the staff were brilliant too

Called in on a Saturday without booking and the lovely lady fitted us in … Poppadum with dips to start then an amazing prawn biryani for me and goat curry for him !! Washed down with a bottle of white … all reasonably priced and faultless Will definitely be back

Nice friendly place with good facilities

Not quite sure how to go about this review as I am still gobsmacked about the experience my Wife and I had at the Salkarra. Was a bit uneasy at the lack of customers when we went in 10.30pm ish Saturday. Ordered the usual popadoms and dips came with three of the smallest round dishes which contained the 'dips' teaspoon (measure) in each one. Fast forward to the main meal. Tried to order chicken madras but they did not do it. Tried for a lamb biryani did not do it. Ordered what I thought was a curry dish but was presented with two pieces of what looked like tandoori chicken which would have been acceptible but it was inedible. The chicken was so salty I had to spit it out, To be fair my Wife ordered Tikka Masala and she said hers was ok. Did not pay for my meal and I do not know how this restaurant is rated at 4.6 on trip advisor. Would not return.

Meal was not great, food tasted Okay, but service was slow. Food took a long time to arrive, tasted better than it looked. Naan bread was plain and flavourless. rice was decent.

One of the best Indian meals we've had . Very nice staff. Food delicious. Ordered nawab Murgh & lamb shank. Coconut rice. Thought we'd try fig & coriander naan bread. Really nice.

We visited as a diverse group from a local specialist resource base attached to a high school. We had been learning about Ramadan and Eid and wanted a great experience to remember so a small group of staff and learners with a range of additional needs visited to sample a variety of dishes. We were served by a lovely and attentive staff member, Nihal, who ensured that everyone had what they needed. He also answered our learners' questions about fasting and celebrating Eid. As we had contacted the restaurant before our visit our food was quick to arrive at the table. As it was lunchtime- we arrived at 12:30- on a Thursday, we were the only diners and there was plenty of space for all ten of us to sit together. For some of our learners it was their first time tasting curry and between us we managed to consume three different types of curry along with rice, chips, naan bread and poppadoms. As well as the opportunity to try some new foods and learn about a different culture, visiting Salkaara allowed our learners to work on developing their independence and social skills in an unfamiliar environment. We had pre-ordered food on a set budget so can't comment on the wider menu or pricing, but what we had was delicious and enjoyed by all. We asked our staff and learners for their highlights of the experience: "Food was good" "The curry was nice" "The curry tasted delicious, and the poppadoms." My partner and I had a takeaway from this restaurant last Saturday how very disappointed we were we ordered 2 chicken kurma well I have never seen a kurma like it it was grey in colour with all black bits in it. I have worked in a takeaway restaurant for over 20 years and have never seen anything like it before. Will never order from there again very disappointed for the money we paid

After a few disappointing curries in recent times , we decided to try somewhere new and I have to say honestly this was by far the right choice .. we had read reviews online and heard through the grapevine that this place was good … we weren’t disappointed and luckily although we thought we’d booked online it wasn’t confirmed, but; the manager squeezed us in, The dishes were fresh , cooked to perfection and full of flavour and taste. Tbh I think it knocks spots off any of the local curry houses in north Cardiff .. The staff were lovely the service was great and the food…. excellent, I can’t say anymore than that ! 👌

Excellent experience. Food was really well presented and tasted amazing. Service was very good too. It was very clean and had a great atmosphere They really went the extra mile All our starters and mains were very tasty - with everyone agreeing this will definitely be our new "go to" Good selection of drinks. Cost was a little higher than your average Indian restaurant but very happy to pay for what was a great afternoon. Only negative was we felt the starter portion size could be a little better but the flavours were amazing All in all a very highly recommended restaurant

Some of the best indian food in Cardiff. We booked a big table and they made space for us. Poppadoms and dips brought enough for all of us. Food portions plentiful and deliciously spicy. Even brought desserts as it was a special occasion.

I was amazed by the food. The calamari was some of the best I've ever tasted, and the chicken breast was perfection.

The lamb trio starter was mainly tough, lacking in taste and generally disappointing. Chicken Nawabi is a big slab of bone dry chicken with a boring tomato sauce. Aloo gobi was vinegary. Very poor meal for a high cost. This place has lost its appeal.

Excellent food.. authentic Indian flavours that, for a change, are not diluted to western tastes. Ambience is good. Limited seating. Though we got a seat on arrival, advise you to book in advance. The service is a tad slow, but it’s compensated by an ever friendly disposition of the staff.

Intimate little curry house full of divine flavours. For Valentines day we booked this place on recommendation. It's surprisingly small and intimate. We were greeted and waited on by very sweet, softly spoken staff. We declined the set taster menu and choose from the main menu. We had the samosa and pakora for starters and I had the hyderabad lamb laziz for the main. The flavours were astonishing. Rich and velvety with tender lamb pieces that melted into nothing. All the sundries and starters were cooked to perfection and beautifully presented. There are so many good curry houses in Cardiff nowadays and this is definitely one of them.

This is our favourite Indian in Cardiff, it is great to eat in and takeaway. The food is delicious, the restaurant is lovely to eat in, the staff are polite and professional, and the service is well-paced. It is the place we always recommend to friends and family, and take people to when visiting us! Recent highlights are their onion pakoras, their vegan mango curry, their calamari starter, Syrian beef curry, Nadan Chicken Curry. There is a good drinks menu, including wine selection. The food menu is also well labelled in terms of allergens. The accessibility into the restaurant is good, with no steps, and so wheelchair accessible. It is also a very short walkable 5 minutes to Llandaf train station of you need to travel by train.

Had a take away from here. It was awful. Korma was spicy and tasted nothing like korma. My tarka daal had some weird stuff in it and didn't taste anything like it should have and the naan breads were under cooked. Definitely wouldn't eat here again! Very disappointed

A small but delightful Indian restaurant - the quality of food is very highly - absolutely the next level up from the other Indian restaurants in Cardiff - delicate flavours with perfectly tender lamb.. Can’t praise it highly enough..

We ordered a number of dishes and the general perception was that the food was unexciting, small portioned and lacking in flavour. We may not have ordered the spiciest but even the korma should have flavour and yet it was grey and a little insipid....

Hmmn...this one is interesting. Expensive would be one word. Over confident and a little arrogant on the food would be a description. Service was good even pouring my tea and milk. The starter though...beetroot and lentil cakes. So small, I thought maybe a couple had fallen off the plate on the way to my table. I don't like that. It needs balance between volume and quantity and this was off. Lamb shank was well cooked , simple uncomplex in flavour. Lemon rice was the long basmati not a cheap version , it was very tasty. Overall the food was good but in judging portion size the starter was poor. The bill was nearly forty pounds without alcohol. Too much. I'll try somewhere with lower prices. One last point was that the music was interesting though. More modern Asian with a bit of slow chill out theme. I can't really reccomend this place unless hughe priced gourmet is your thing.

Usually when I open up a takeaway it’s extreme disappointment (you know what I’m talking about; all dishes look the same, fluorescent red gloopy oily stuff everywhere). This was DIFFERENT. It’s real edible food and it tastes lovely. Very pleased. Compliments to the chef.

Went to eat Onam Feast at Salkaara. It was so delicious and awesome food. Loved the authentic Kerala sadhya taste. All the curries were tasty and the staff were also so nice. Brought back the nostalgia of sadhya to the UK.

During a golf break we fancied a curry, checked reviews and ratings and came to Salkaara. Lovely, family run local restaurant with terrific food. We had the taster menu. The variety of dish, quality of food and just the right portions made this a great choice. My friend and I thoroughly enjoyed both the friendly service and quality food. If in the area definitely try Salkaara.

Salkaara is the gold standard for me now when comparing Indian Cuisine, and I'm yet to come across anything better. Wonderful authentic food, with dishes not normally found in "traditional indians", and the staff are just wonderful.
