Salamander Restaurant in Cornwall, Isles of Scilly

Truly excellent food prepared with care & attention to detail. Wholly worthwhile. I had the scallops, while my wife had the Bass, both cooked to perfection.

Attended as a small group for my other half s birthday on New year's Day. made to feel very welcome, really lovey atmosphere in the restaurant.food was absolutely lovely. 10 out of 10 would definitely go back

When we dine out in Mevagissey we tend to head straight to the harbour front and we are usually underwhelmed by the food. Tonight, we decided to be more adventurous and found Salamander. What a great find! After starters, my partner had the Lamb and I went for the Duck. Both were cooked to perfection. Definitely made me aware of how frequently we tolerate moderately cooked food. This was exceptional and we will definitely be heading back although we might opt out of overdoing it with three courses next time ☺️. I have given 4 stars for atmosphere only because we were very early (18:00) so were alone in the restaurant for a large part of the evening before it started filling up.

This was our 3rd Christmas Lunch visit in four years and it was again excellent both in terms of quality of food and the service. Mark & Hazel & their team deserve every accolade received!

Unpretentious local family-run restaurant. Chef produces amazing locally sourced dishes. Interesting menu - we had local fish of the day. Best ever giant dessert of meringue, bitter orange, chocolate pavlova.

Another wonderful evening out with friends in the Salamander. Great food, great service and all at very reasonable prices. The catch of the day (Hake) was extremely tasty. Thoroughly recommend this restaurant

Delicious with excellent service

Lovely ambience in the restaurant, somehow contemporary yet traditional at once. The staff were very helpful and efficient and the food delicious. We'd definitely go again. They couldn't take tips by card and we had no cash so couldn't leave anything but we will make sure we do next time!

We had two gorgeous meals at this restaurant in late September - the food and the ambience (and the wine!) absolutely perfect. I had scallops on the first occasion, and duck on the second. Thoroughly recommend!

What a fantastic find, a cosy welcoming restaurant. The staff were such lovely people with great customer skills. Was welcomed warmly by the female host on arrival. The food was superb, well cooked and tasty, arrived in good time and was well presented. Reasonable price and will definitely come back again

A cosy restaurant so understandably our first evening choice for dining was fully booked. We were fortunate to get a table on our second to last night and we were not disappointed. Great service, lovely ambience and a number of very interesting options on the menu. If I was being a bit picky, the steak was a little under cooked for the medium order but nevertheless still very enjoyable. The fish was excellent, nice vegetables and a good wine list. This restaurant is thoroughly recommended.

This is our second visit and decided to leave until our last day in Pentewan having an end of Summer break with parents. Again absolutely stunning food, great service and quality. This is a must if you are staying in Pentewan or Mevagissey. We will always try and go when on holiday each year. Worth pre-booking.

Really lovely evening - despite the restaurant being very short staffed the service was brilliant as was the quality of the food. We were in awe watching just one member of staff serve 28 people, smiling, calm and bringing out beautifully cooked food. Book ahead - there were disappointed folk trying for a table - and make sure you have cash for the car park - minimum card spend designed to make you overpay!

We visited today for the fourth time in the last two years. The food as usual was absolutely fabulous and we are all foodies ( including two trained chefs) so possibly a little hard to please. The owners are super friendly the atmosphere is good and as it is not a large place the noise level is low so you can actually have a conversation, if you can stop eating the marvelous food long enough that is. We have experienced most of the food on the menu between us and have not been disappointed. The wine list has a good selection and is reasonably priced. Another plus is that you are not rushed and can have a wait between your main and pudding. The prices are set at 2 courses for £28 and 3 courses for£34, which for the quality and amount of food we think is excellent value. It does get full especially on Saturdays so book in advance so as not to be disappointed. Looking forward to the next time we can visit.

Not been here for 20 years. Booked it for my best friend's birthday. She's awkward (a coeliac). Was every bit as good as I remembered it. My friend had exactly what she wanted off the menu, no compromise. I will not leave it so long to return.

This is by far our favourite restaurant in Cornwall, This year we stayed in Bude but still travelled an hour & half to eat here.

A real gem of a restaurant tucked away in Mevagissey. Don't be fooled by what you see from the outside as you won't be disappointed with the lovely food they serve and excellent service. Well, I'm amazed I ordered the starter of Scallops, very nice and well cooked but my second course of rack of lamb arrived and looked very well presented, tasted very good, 10 out of 10 for the chef but unfortunately the meat was very tough and chewy, no fault of the chef, unfortunately the waitress asked me how the meal was and I replied with the truth that the meat was pretty much unedible and she took the meal away only to return to tell me that they had tried my lamb and that they could not fault it, really!!!!! They actually took food from my plate and ate it!!!!! Then she came back and argued and offered me a sharper knife, I declined and she went away and returned later and told me they couldn't understand why I complained, very poor customer service! We shall not be returning and I was not after a discount! I think the waitress should be looking for a different vocation! And there was me thinking the customer was king!

5 of us went for dinner 2 in our party are regulars but will not be going back anymore. The reason being Steak was not cooked how it was ordered, Fish was overcooked, complained and all we had was attitude from one of the older persons serving us, found she had no customer skills whatsoever found her very rude. Wow! This place is amazing. We had the set price a course meal. Each one was absolutely delicious. I had a chicken satay skewer for starter and the sauce was a taste sensation. I then had a tender bream with the most tantalising sauce, and my partner had fresh sole, which was also very good. The desserts were also beautifully presented with mini biscuit salamanders, all wonderful!
