Sakura in Northampton

Super delicious food, friendly greeting and staff, and an entertaining teppanyaki chef! I had spiced beef, miso soup, hibachi rice, and sake with their popular beer 🤤 Japanese songs and decoration make the place very enjoyable. Definitely recommended. Will go back for some more!

We went for a Teppanyaki meal and really enjoyed it. The restaurant is a bit hidden but well worth a visit. The food was tasty and prepared with theatre and expertise in front of us. The service was also good. Nice for small groups.

We went on a Saturday night while visiting Northampton. Love teppanyaki, the show and the food, although there is an extensive version menu with lots of dishes. Good service, great entertainment and delicious food. A big thumbs up.

Oh my gosh… I love this place. Food is superb and great choice. I’d always recommend the sushi and gyoza… yum! The theatre of the chef cooking the food is also great. Highly recommend for all of the family too.

Very good Japanese cuisine. Full range of sushi, noodle rice and their speciality hot plate dishes. Service is very good and quick. The food is cooked fresh and tastes as good as it looks. The hot plate cooking is great fun with the chefs cooking in front of you and providing entertainment as they do. Well worth looking up if you’re in the Northampton area.

Great food and chefs cooking in front of you if you order off the teppenyaki menu. Could do with a bit of money on freshening up the decor but a great place for groups or couples, and very underrated.

We went last night and our experience was really good. The looks from the outside have always put me off, but I read the reviews and thought to give it a try. The staff was friendly, we sat in one of the Teppanyaki tables and it was fun, both my sons enjoy the food, the cooking show, catching the rice bowl,...and we also order some sushi and it was delicious. Wine was also very good. I am gluten free and they were caring and lovely for me, they used GF soy sauce and explain what I could eat or not. Lovely Experience and good food.

I had the pleasure of discovering Sakura Japanese restaurant, and at first glance, I genuinely believed the place was closed, as its exterior suggested otherwise. However, stepping inside, I was pleasantly surprised by its wonderful interiors. This marked my first experience with Japanese cuisine, and the overall ambiance added to the allure of the place. The food surpassed my expectations, delivering an excellent culinary experience. From the flavors to the presentation, each dish showcased the authenticity of Japanese cuisine. Equally impressive was the host, contributing to the overall positive impression of the establishment. Sakura not only introduced me to Japanese culinary delights but also left me with a memorable and enjoyable dining experience.

I enjoyed my experience here and the staff member who served me was very nice. Most of the items on the sushi menu are items that actually exist in Japan. The only reason I gave 4 stars for food is because there are some items that do not exist in Japan and the rice they use is not Japanese rice (such as koshihikari). Unlike another particular Japanese restaurant, the music playing in the background was japanese music and not Chinese. Also unlike another particular Japanese restaurant: the sushi menu has Japanese writing and not Chinese and the chopsticks used are the correct length (Japanese and Chinese chopsticks are different lengths : Japanese chopsticks are generally shorter than Chinese). The only big problem I would have is that the restaurant is not open until 5 pm so you can't go for lunch.

Food is absolutely delicious, service excellent, well worth the money - good amounts of food too and given very quickly. Well recommend and would go again.

Wonderful time visiting Sakura! Chef was brilliant with a wonderful selection of fish, meat and vegetables. Teppanyaki is a must!

It was a good father day experience.

Food was great people were nice. We cash tipped the chef 10pound to then find our there was an extra pound service charge on our bill. They refused to remove it so we ended up tipped 20pounds. For this reason we won't return. Tipping is optional it is not mandatory I tipped him what I thought was a good tip and you doubled it. We loved our food and was going to bring our family of 10 for my birthday but we won't be returning.

Got pick up food here, the rice dishes were really good but I didn't enjoy my sashimi. Pretty good and would probably just order something different, definitely recommend the rice though. Customer service was great.

Hidden gem in Northampton, very good Japanese food with very fresh sashimi and sushi, the takoyaki were fresh and were crispy and soft as well and the teppanyaki was very delicious as well with the chef cooking in front of us! Waiters were very attentive towards customers and were very happy and cheerful. The songs played in the restaurant were j-pop and j rock songs which we happy with as thats what we listen to, overall the outside doesnt look like much but definitely should try restaurant if you are in the area!

We went here on a Groupon deal. I’ve been before, so knew what to expect. The food was good, and staff were attentive… It was very cold inside the restaurant. At the end of the meal, we noticed there was a service charge added to the bill. We had no issue leaving a tip, but wanted to leave it in cash and an amount we felt comfortable with. We told the waitress that we wanted the service charge to be removed, and were told that we needed to discuss it with the manager. We felt quite uncomfortable with the situation, and I will not be returning. To add insult to injury, we noticed on the way out of the car park that there is a charge, that you’re meant to pay when you get there. This was not clear on entering the car park. I also remember from my previous visit that we added our registration details into a computer at the restaurant but that wasn’t the case this time - we weren’t told to anyway. I called NCP the next day and they assured me that as I had paid before midnight and as long as what I paid covered the duration of the parking, that it was all OK. It’s a real shame as the food was good, but the frosty reception at the end really put me off.

This visit to Sakura was very disappointing. When we arrived we commented on how cold the restaurant was. We were taken to a table and ignored for the first 10mins. A waitress then asked if we wanted a drink, we order then waited another 15mins for our drink. We then sat for at least 30mins before they asked what we wanted to eat. The starters were eventually bought to our table after another 20min wait, but part of our party had eaten their starter before the other half was delivered. We then sat for ages before the main meal was cooked, we had to ask if we were ever going to served. We won’t be visiting again any time soon

Nice Japanese Teppanyaki experience. Good selection of items on the menu. We had the Groupon vouchers (25per head) so had items available on that offer. Drinks and service charge of around £6 were extra. Nice sushi selection. Friendly staff. Good cooking by the chef. Overall a good experience. Make sure you register your car number on arrival with the manager

First time trying this place last night for a evening meal; very hospitable staff. Really enjoyed watching the hibachi chef, was very mesmerizing! Overall good food, it was a weekday night so very quiet during off-peak .

Really really nice food, staff couldn't be more accommodating. Slightly sketchy to find and looks a little rundown, but get inside and the food is lovely. Fresh cooked in front of you by people who know what they're doing. Will definitely be coming back.

My husband and I went to Sakura for an teppanyaki experience (Groupon voucher). The restaurant has ample parking space, but don't let the outside of the restaurant fool you, the decor inside was nice and the food was terrific! We went on Sunday, in the evening and the restaurant was quiet. We had a very warm welcome. The chef was very entertaining and kind. We ordered salmon and beef teppanyaki, everything was cooked to perfection, the beef was very tender, the egg fried rice and stirred fried veg were very tasty! We ordered a platter of mixed sashimi also, and it was beautiful! We wanted to order more things but it was a shame that our belly couldn't take anymore food. Everything was great from start to finish. We will definitely go there again, the next time we are in Northampton.

The meal was fantastic, ordered 3 starters between 2 of us, two items off the tepanyaki grill and then some sides and every dish was incredible. The filet mignon was an absolute highlight. I'd heavily advise going to this restaurant, it seems to be a sleeper pick but you will have an amazing time.

Eat here twice, bad hygiene, food was very bland and putting beansprouts in a ramen bowl is just ridiculous. This is not japanese food this is more like mixed asian ingredients.

Don't judge a book by it's cover, the food is fanastic, even if the outside looks a little tired. Great entertainment watching the gourgous food being prepared in front of us. Taste was sensational, really good value. Can't wait until I can visit again 🙂

Not recommended to pick soup and salads, Most foods taste bland, Hygiene problems with tenpayaki. 1 star is only for fresh Salmon. And also heard about unpaid wage happened there.

Tbh, the food was really not worth for the price. And there were literally leftover rice grains between the teppanyaki and table, eww. Definitely won’t go to this restaurant again.

If you are going order from the Tepenyaki menu and a fried rice too, because it’s part of the show. I would rate the dining experience as a lot of fun, very unusual and different. The servers were really friendly and just another level of service. The food itself was fresh but not amazing, a little too salty. The food would have to be a bit nicer for me to come back at that price often - because I would. They really should paint over the graffiti on the building because it makes the place look rough.

Not having eaten Japanese before I found the menu very easy to read but the food - it was amazing! I can see why my son loves it here. Was well worth the journey from Milton Keynes! Like Arnie - we will be back!!!

We had a Groupon for a set menu including the cook-at-your-table teppanyaki. The food was really tasty and the teppanyaki cooking is a good show. Be aware that you sit side by side with your party rather than opposite, and you have other parties around the same table so it's not where you'd go for a really private meal. Also the extractor fans above the griddles in the middle of the tables are loud so beware if your hearing is poor.

Went for a weekday meal here and was not disappointed! The missus got a Groupon voucher which made it really good value. The staff where welcoming, friendly and explain everything. Having the food cooked by the chef in front of you doing little tricks and making fire with saki, litterally makes the evening. Portions were good size and the food was delicious. We will be returning 👍

Went with my wife for a late evening meal. Staff were very friendly and food was great. One of the best miso soups I've had in the UK. Even though it was towards the end of the evening all the staff were smiling and full of energy. Great evening and hope to go again soon.

The main point of criticism is that it took forever until the chef finally started cooking our food, and he wasn't even occupied with other orders. The food itself seemed reasonably fresh but was below average, too salty, and certainly not at the right level for the price. We had to share a table with other guests which made cooking easier for the restaurant (since many things are prepared at the table), but, given that there were plenty of completely empty tables, it would have been nicer to have some privacy. All in all, we had a rather disappointing although expensive evening.

I had a bad experience tonight here. I booked a table at 6pm and came 10 mins earlier. It took a bit long for us to order the food and drink. The service was extremely slow. It took about one hour until the chef started to cook for us as we need to wait for another group at the same table. The food was quite fresh but the taste was average and a bit salty. More importantly, the service needs to be improved significantly. First come and first serve. For this service, it does not deserve a 10 percent service charge and it is compulsory.

Absolutely love this place, it's a real dining experience, amazing food, great entertaining chefs and a chance to meet new people. One time I went, I sat next to South African International cricket star Andre Nel, we talked cricket for 3 hours. His poor wife was sat on the other side😂

We visited as a family, never having been here before. My mother in law was given the groupon voucher as a gift so we bought our own to join her and are so glad we did. The service was excellent, friendly and chatty without being intrusive. The tepinyaki was a real show and we really enjoyed the food (we tried chicken, steak and calamari). It’s not the cheapest of places to eat but it’s so unique and I think warrants a higher price with what is essentially a private chef! I would definitely recommend a visit to experience a hidden gem.

Just been to Sakura for the first time and had an amazing meal cooked in front of us by Simon. Lovely atmosphere and all fitted with screens around the grill.

I've been to Sakura a few times and it's always a great experience. The food is delicious, the staff are lovely, and the chefs are brilliant! They've also made sure that everything is COVID-safe without compromising the atmosphere and experience. Can't wait to visit again!

Beautiful meals friendly service

Really disappointed. The place was freezing to start with, which made it uncomfortable. Then we were asked what we wanted to drink before we’d even seen the drinks menu. We were then asked by 3 different waitresses what we wanted to order before we’d had a chance to properly read the food menu. Ordered food, starters we’re ok, then they bought out our sides to the teppanyaki before they’d even started cooking our teppanyaki so by the time that was cooked the sides were stone cold. I could have forgiven them if the food was good, however it was bland and my tiger prawns were chewy. The place was dead and the staff were too in your face. They even tried to take my partners plate away, whilst we were still having starters. It was like they couldn’t get rid of us quick enough. We were in an out in 45 minutes. As foodies this place is definitely over priced for the quality of food being served. Sadly we will not be returning.

The food was delicious!! (tried lobster for the first time 👌🏾 ) The host was friendly and helped with the menu there was so much to choose 👍🏾. The restaurant itself was nice the and music was cool some of it I recognised from anime ☺ . I'd deffo go again 😁😁
