Saji's Restaurant in Gateshead

Really nice relaxing venue with fast and easy service. The food was great and full of flavour. Prices were good too. One suggestion would be to break the tables up a little with some planters/dividers to enhance diner privacy.

First time tonight. Excellent food. Wonderful professional and friendly staff. Lovely atmosphere. Thank you for a great experience, we will be back.

Been thinking about trying this restaurant after driving past a lot and reading reviews, and we decided to try it today....well it was amazing, the food is tremendous, full of flavour, reasonably priced and staff are great .....well worth a visit ,I've been to quite a few Indian restaurants but this is up there with the best.

This is the best Indian food I have eaten. No excess of ghee just beautifully cooked and spiced food. The service was attentive. The restaurant itself had well spaced out tables so it didn't feel crowded although the place was full. Very good quality food and excellentvalue for money. PS take your own wine or beer

We visited for a family meal this evening, literally couldn't fault the place. The food was delicious , generous portions, very tasty and extremely reasonable price for the quality the service was outstanding attentive but not in your face. for a starter I had the bhuna prawn on puri and tried the SpicyBattak...both cooked to perfection. For the main course I had almond butter chicken and tried the chicken bhuna... Both were absolutely delicious. I just over £120 for three starters and five mains with side dishes, I was pleasantly surprised at the price. The restaurant doesn't have a drink licence but it allows you to bring your own wine and beer with no corkage fee. However don't worry if you forget there is an off licence 2 minutes away.

Another great meal We were once again very pleased with the food and service. They do not serve alcohol but you can take your own alcohol or buy from nearby with no corkage charge.

Really warm welcome. Staff are always friendly here. It’s a big plus. We were in Friday night. This gaff has a lot of covers and by 19:30 I only spotted a single empty table. Good business. The service was very mixed. A running theme through the evening was repeat visits by different servers asking us exactly the same question. There was zero coordination. Fine once or twice but became a tad annoying through the evening. The place was busy and they want to turn over covers. I get that, but felt a little bit rushed. Not much, but enough to feel it. It was hilarious though as it then took c40 mins for the bill to arrive after we requested it and it only arrived on the third request. Again, no biggy but an example of the lack of join up. Mixed tikka starters were good. My lamb biryani was pedestrian - I’ve just returned from India so maybe my expectations were a bit too high. Reasonable VFM. For me, our visit didn’t live up to the previous experiences. I think they were busy, but didn’t help themselves and there’s a training gap with the waiting staff. Will I return? Yes, but I’d want to see a return to the previous high standards.

Here to collect a takeaway as they don’t deliver to our area, they have in the past but now refuse. The food is amazing, they don’t serve alcohol in the restaurant although you are welcome to bring your own but to me that’s not the same hence the reason we only get takeout.

Again nothing but the very best from the owner and his staff.The service is wonderfull from start to finish,the food is just something else,it is by a long-way the best in Newcastle/Gateshead.If you haven’t tried Sajis restaurant yet,give it a go you will not be disappointed.

Saji’s is such a wonderful place to go to! We went for my husband’s surprise 50th birthday meal and the staff were all so accommodating and so very helpful. I asked many questions and also needed assistance with different things are they were absolutely fantastic with everything. Nothing was a hassle for them at ally the food is always fantastic and so full of taste! We love coming to Saji’s. Thank you once again for being so amazing!

14 of us were meeting up for a good quality meal over the summer. I thought no better place to go than Saji's. It was a very busy night and the staff never seemed to stop. We started with 2 poppadoms each and the customary pickles and sauces, wonderful. We all got starters, which my tandoori mixed kebab was sensational. We all got a massive variety of curries, rices and breads. 1 person got a doggie bag, the rest were wiped clean. What a wonderful restaurant, the friendliest staff and sensational food. We will all return. 10 stars from us.

Great food, great staff, great surroundings. What more can a body wish for? Everything in this restaurant just keeps getting better. I had a lamb tikka kurma on this occasion, and it was the best I`ve ever eaten, the sauce was out of this world, so definitely a repeat next visit. My partner had the mixed tikka grill. So much meat, all beautifully cooked, and a king prawn, all served on a hot sizzle plate. We will be back next week, and now we don`t eat anywhere else for curry and Asian food. Unfortunately, Saji himself has been very poorly, but he`s getting better I`m pleased to say, but he frets about the place., so get yourselves down there, you don`t know what you`re missing This restaurant has more regulars than I`ve seen anywhere, and that speaks volumes.

Were once again very pleased with the food and service. We did not wait long to be served and the food was hot, interesting and appetising. Perhaps Saji's should put on their website that they do not serve alcohol (we took wine) but you can take your own alcohol with no corkage charge.

We haven't been able to get over for a while, so it was nice to be back. We both decided to have Tikka Chicken Biryani and we were not disappointed. The food was absolutely delicious. I think Saji could do with a little more help, when there are large parties in the restaurant but I appreciate that it is a difficult balancing act and you can't just whip up staff, with the wave of a magic wand. It was good to see that they were doing so well. Thanks for the usual warm welcome and looking forward to next time.

Each time I've been here, the food and service has been excellent. Shockingly not tried out there dessert menu yet... I'm always stuffed after finishing starter and main... Thus excellent portion sizing!

A Wednesday night, table booked. Left us waiting 30 min and still not seated. Ignorant rude staff. Finally left to go to Nafizas - a much better experience.

We booked our table for 6pm and arrived in plenty of time to what I can only describe as chaotic. There was a wedding of 200 people upstairs and piles of people waiting for their takeaways. We asked several times if we could be seated to no avail, finally got seated around 6.40pm. We asked for our order to be taken but eventually at 7.30pm our order was taken. Our food eventually came at 8.30pm! This is totally unacceptable and complained several times to the staff to which they replied “we are busy “ The food was good but smaller portions as I overheard other tables complain. We have been loyal customers of Sajis over the years and I have always given recommendations regarding the service, food & ambiance. It would have been better to suspend the takeaways or close the restaurant for the night hence eliminate a sea of complaints. We will of course return to Sajis as it’s our favourite restaurant in the north east, I hope these comments can be taken in good faith.

This restaurant is basic in appearance, but the food choice and quality is exceptional. The service was also excellent. Good menu choice and Punjabi food which is different from a normal Indian Restaurant. The meal we had was superb with varying complimentary flavours. Easy parking and access. Highly recommended. Only comment - no alcohol.

We're always looking for really good Indian restaurants in the Newcastle area and Saji's Restaurant has certainly joined this list. The interior is spacious with wooden floors throughout (possibly feels a little hollow when less busy) and service was swift. The food was excellent! Standouts were the fresh crispy poppadoms and the very tasty curries (Chilli Chingri Jul & Karahi Balti) with the right level of heat. Everything was very enjoyable and we would certainly visit again.

This really is the best Indian food about, it’s always lovely. It’s a good drive from us but worth it every time. And it’s really good value for money

I went with my partner and parents for my 50th Birthday. We were warmly welcomed. From the moment we arrived, the service was excellent. We took some wine and beer, as the restaurant does not have a bar. The food was fantastic as ever. Our starters arrived promptly. All of us were very happy with them. I come here all the time for meals inside with friends and for takeaway. Staff are super friendly. And always try to make you feel welcome. I am vegetarian and there are lots of choices. I was recommended the paneer cheese last time, It was fantastic. This is my all time favourite restaurant.

As a birthday treat for my husband we ordered from Saji’s for our family of five we were told one hour for delivery 2 and a half hours later our meals arrived after many phone calls stating 15 minutes we are very busy.The food was ok a bit disappointing to say the least but they had replaced one of our meals with something completely different without consulting with us therefore my oldest son went without anything to eat they thought by giving us some extra starters would rectify this.If they had said 2 and a half hours for delivery we could have made an informed choice if they had contacted us to say they couldn’t supply one of the meals again we could have made that choice very poor customer service to say the least it wouldn’t have took a lot to avoid the disappointment as a family we certainly won’t be using again

Ordered food to be delivered for birthday on recommendation of a friend. The food was amazing, didn't taste like your typical takeaway food. The delivery arrived spot on time and the guy who delivered was friendly and made sure everything was OK. We will definitely be ordering from here again and will certainly visit once Covid restrictions are lifted.

Ordered take out from here last night and it was superb! Meal was ready for collection when stated and when I got it home it was piping hot. The chicken in the dishes was excellent, large chunks that were perfectly cooked. The sauces in the 3 dishes I chose were delicious; fiery enough to give a kick, but really well balanced with other herbs and spices. The naan’s were lovely and garlicky too. Top notch.

Have visited the restaurant before lockdown but at the moment only a takeaway service is availabe or to pick up service. The food is delicious,takeaway arrives on time. Very friendly service and family run business. Spotlessly clean and staff are very caring and accomodating with your needs.

Sadjis is a great restaurant, not only is the food perfect but the menu is great theres free parking multiple different sized tables to suit any occasion and the staff are genuine good people. Reasonablibly priced also

Our first meal from Sajis in Gateshead after reports of family visit were excellent.We only had 2 main courses but they were lush..great portions..ok a little expensive but you get what you paid for.No hesitation to return..very pleasant staff and service was spot on.

We visited Saj's for the first time last night for our mams 50th birthday and we weren't disappointed, the food was outstanding, the service was fab & the staff were so polite! We were allowed to decorate the table with balloons & took in a cake which they brought out to our table & sang happy birthday, not only the staff but the whole resurant got involved. Will 100% be going back regularly & recommended everyone given it a try.

This place defo deserves all the lovely reviews it has been given, these are what made us choose this place to begin with when choosing somewhere to have a celebratory family meal and it totally lived up to what had been said. Warm and welcoming staff who cant do enough for you and the food is very tasty and very generous portion sizes. Not badly priced either and it is very covid19 set up so you feel like your in a very safe environment thats not touched by the horrible situation whats going on at the moment, so tho its covid safe it still feels like you can sit and enjoy your meal like you could before this all started. We shall defo all be back soon.

The aroma from the resterunt as we approached was mouth watering. Despite the resteraunt being exceptionally busy due to the eat out help out scheme, (about a 5 minute wait for a table at 6.30) we were very happy with the service. Great organisation, well staffed, service with a smile and swift goes a long way with us. Took our order for drinks and starters at the table within a few minutes, drinks arrived promptly, at which point we ordered our starters and mains. Waitress was very helpful with our order, accepting modifications to our food with no issue, ran through the order to make sure it was right. Starters arrived within 5 minutes, main in another 20- perfectly timed for us. One of our names arrived as plain, which was quickly fixed to garlic without issue. The food itself was delicious especially our mains ( I had the almond butter chicken with added sultanas as per request with mushroom pilou rice, partner had chef's special curry with chicken tikka rice). All of the food was delicious, given that it takes quite a lot to impress us that's high praise. To put into perspective, we've tried other local Indian restaurant s and chains and none have matched this (except perhaps Tipus in Edinburgh!) half was packed up to take away quickly (as we usually over order in resteraunts). Will definitely be going back again and bringing family with us.

Visited this restaurant on the 31st July for a family night out, we have been to this restaurant a few times and it never fails to impress the food was excellent,second to none,the service was top notch,the staff can't do enough for you.the bar was closed so they allow you to take your own drink,and they don't charge you for corkage.(How good is that). All in all this is the best Indian restaurant I've ever been to. Just go!!

We visited Sajis midweek, we were greeted and sat immediately, food was beyond amazing, staff are always attentive - nothing ever a problem! I am particularly fussy with Indian food when it comes to finding somewhere authentic and this truly is one of the best in the North East, I would recommend this to anyone and everyone wanting to try authentic Indian cuisine

Visited yesterday for a birthday meal. Food was absolutely delicious and all guidelines regarding COVID were being followed. Special mention to Zainab who recommended a curry, took a handful of photos and was so nice and polite throughout. Very impressed!!

I tried this restaurant a few weeks ago for a Takeaway, I was very impressed with the food , the xustomer service on the phone and the delivery. I live very local to this restaurant and I feel that £3.50 for a.large bottle of diet coke in a plastic bottle and £3.50 delivery charge for 2.2 miles is a bit too much. Thank you.
