e turned up without a booking and were seated quickly. The restaurant had a steady trade for a very wet and windy Wednesday. The lady who served us was attentive and helpful - menus are easy to follow but she gave advice. Service was quick.Food was tremendous. Lovely and tasty with a different set of flavours to other middle eastern food we've had. Portion size was large... especially the nan bread. You have been warned.

On arrival we was shown immediately to a table. Great menu with plenty of choices. We went for Safran mixed maze starter(for 2) which was good. For mains had the Safran mixed grill for 2. Once again really good. Although we probably didn’t need the starter as the main was very large with steak , chicken and lamb shish kebab.I mentioned in the title about ‘ no frills’. This really is in reference to the service . We just felt there was no interaction with the staff at all. They just took our orders , then brought our food. Not once did anyone ask if we was enjoying our meal. That said we both really enjoyed our first meal at a Persian restaurant.

Opciones vegetarianas

Having just visited Leeds for the day we fancied something Persian. Having done a google search we found Safran. There was no one in the restaurant but thought we would give it a go. The food was lovely, very tasty and far too much for 2 people. The only thing that spoilt it was the waiter! the only time he came to life was when his Wife and some people he obviously knew arrived.

Slow service of food, but the food taste good... until my partner started picking at the rice to have found a hair, later I discovered 4 short dark hairs within my rice. Politely and discreetly went to speak to staff to let them know, only to have them snigger saying was there a hair ball. Waiter said he’d take the started off couldn’t be bothered to argue so I asked for 1 main to be taken off. Never going back, they got away lightly.

We very glad that found this the real gem persian restaurant, the staff is friendly, warm welcome and quick serve, atmosphere is calm and homey feels. We came here for our early dinner while visiting our daughter in Leeds, and we definitely had an amazing dinner with the menus that we ordered, the food was so fresh, delicious and fine quality ingredients, and the plate portion was generous with very fair price.

! ! ! ! ! ¡Wow, me encanta! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ¡VAYA AQUÍ y guiñe los chefs! ! ! ! !

I love going to Safran been there over years of visiting Leeds. Its in town so will drop in there to meet and old friend or on a date.I prefer vegetarian food. So I am not fussed on Persian mains. But Safran does an amazing starter to share so I just get that and share it between two instead of getting a main. The coffee is amazing too. I love the flatbread, they seem smaller now but to be honest they did used to be excessive. They do bakalave? the persian sweet desert things made with pistachio, I don't have great sweet tooth, my girlfriend loves it and gets some to take home when we go.I have cooked Persian food and its a lot of work and just isn't the same because doing an aubergine on a hob or in an oven isn't the same as charcoal or stone cooked. So Persian food is one of the cuisines I really appreciate when I eat out.I love the smokey flavors, I love the textures, (a lot of it is pastes like humus). Inside the place is nice, its a strange shape as its in a tunnel arch and its strangely charming as the trains go over the top. There are quite a few Persian, Algerian ... interesting restaurants you get in Leeds that you don't find elsewhere. Safran is my favorite. The food and coffee is excellent and the location is great for visiting if your coming off the bus or train or are spending time in town and want to leave the business and relax somewhere nice. So its lovely convenient Persian food. If you like meat you will probably enjoy the mains if not go anyway and pig out on the starters because that is where Persian cuisine excels. If your vegetarian same thing.

That's not to say it's not authentically Persian, it is but these places are so very similar when it comes to cuisine. The portions are absolutely massive! I had the lamb starter and my friend had the Greek salad starter both fresh, vibrant and delicious as were the main courses of fresh fish fillet with a light pilau rice and slow cooked lamb neck with a rice dish consisting of broad beans and dill. The food will be instantly recognisable to anyone who has Persian food before. Persian restaurants don't always serve alcohol, so it was nice to be able to get a beer or a glass of wine here. We ate chicken wings to start and each had a kebab. All good if unspectacular. £51 for the three of us, including four bottles of beer.

Our group of 9 went home very well satisfied after eating at this lovely restaurant. Don't be fooled by the small frontage or the location. It's really quite roomy inside and spotlessly clean. The train fanatics in our party were delighted to hear the rumbling of trains passing overhead. Friendly and helpful service - they were happy to accommodate a request to omit mint from a dish. Although the vegetarian options on the main course menu were limited both vegetarian members of our party thoroughly enjoyed their meal. Ample portions of tasty food all round. Only a limited choice of wine and beer available, but IMHO that's no big deal. All very competitively priced and excellent value for money. We'll be going back for more!

We used to come here regularly when I was at university in Leeds and always enjoyed the good food, friendly serving staff, and interesting interior design. I hadn't been back since 2012 when I graduated - so when this weekend a uni friend and I made a last minute trip through Leeds we had Safran high on our list to visit. Sadly the fun interior design is gone - what used to be an interesting 3d landscape of traditional iranian scenes is now very basic, though still pleasant, and has lost all charm as a result. The food was good, with generous portions - though surprised to find that there was no Sabzi Khordan as I'm sure there used to be and this is a staple in so many Persian restaurants? Instead there was a Greek Salad which was a bed of lettuce, some olives and feta, and Salad Shirazi chucked on top. But the thing that really dampened this visit was the really terrible service. The guy who greeted and seat us could barely make eye contact. We asked him for some water with our order which didn't arrive. He disappeared for most of the rest of the meal (potentially on a break, I guess? But he came and went). I asked the other waitress for the water and she was also basically wordless. After we ate we sat with the empty plates on our table for over 15 minutes and waited to be cleared and/or asked if we'd like anything else. There were two other tables in the restaurant - it was a quiet period, and the staff were by no means rushed off their feet. My British friend always enjoys the opportunity to have Persian Tea and any Persian desserts available - which is something he experienced from our uni days visiting Safran - and which culturally is a standard after the meal. Our plates were clearly pushed away and empty, no service came. Our table was directly beside the waiters station where the waitress was cleaning glasses. I made solid eye contact with the waitress several times and she did not react at all. Eventually I got up and went to the bar to pay, not bothering to ask for any tea - nor was I offered it. A really, truly disappointing experience from a restaurant we loved very dearly. It's lost all atmosphere and service it had before. I can only guess the place has changed hands - it does not have the family vibe it once did. As someone of Persian background I was honestly embarrassed by the service.

Went in for dinner when my girlfriend was out with friends rather than cooking. Was quite simply a great value for money experience. As other reviews it looks basic but the food and service are great!

Went there last night with my fella. We hadn't eaten Persian before, and the staff were more than happy to help us choose from the menu. Delicious - two starters, two mains, all served with bread and rice, a bottle of gorgeous house white and I took home some dessert - all for under £50.00. It was an absolute feast, a great little find down the back streets of Leeds City Centre. Must go again!

Popped in here as they had a table and got a lovely surprise. the food was fresh and well cooked. The restraint looks basic but its the food that counts. Friendly staff and a clean and tidy place. You can see in the kitchen.

The food here is absolutely delicious. The starters, the mains, ..... Not made it to dessert as I am usually too full from ... 'just one more mouthful'. Do not be put off by the basic surroundings, this is reflected in the very reasonable pricing. The experience is all about the food. Let the waiter advise you if it is your first time. I can guarantee, you will not be disappointed.

The atmosphere of the restaurant is a let down and we found it quite chilly where we were sat but, having said that, the food was superb and served in generous portions.I was disappointed that the only beer they had was Perroni. Although Perroni is very nice I would have preferred a beer relative to the type of cuisine, say Effes or even an Iranian beer, if there is such a beer. The staff were very friendly and service was quick and efficient.

Number one restaurant every time I go back to Leeds! I am in love with middle eastern food and will always keep coming back there. I feel full already having a mixed started, the portions are truly huge. Super friendly staff and intersting interiors. Great value!

This restaurant is one of my favourites and has been for quite a few years now. The food is amazing! great quality and big portions of everything! I usually eat the KEBAB SHISHLIK - one skewer of tender lamb fillet on the bone & grilled tomatoes. This is great with rice and bread. LOVE IT ALL!

This place seems to have changed hands several times, but I've always found it good, if tending towards pricey. The Arabic coffee is superb, as is the bread.

I have been to this place numerous times now (with a group of colleagues, with my husband and on various occasions with several different friends). Their food is really delicious, huge portions and service is pretty good too. Would definitely recommend it!

Went here with a few people after work recently and wasn't sure what to expect. The first thing we had was a couple of starters with some Freshly Baked Bread (naan). These were really tasty and very good portions for a starter, luckily we only had three between the five of us, the Kashke Bademjan was particularly good. Then came the main which I had the Chenjeh Mix Dish, the portion size was great and the food was good, I was expecting a bit more spice on the meat than what there was but they were good. The main downside was the lack of drinks served with the only soft drinks being small bottles (330ml) for £1.90 each, however there was a jug of Doogh which got shared around, something which I wouldn't normally have but it does fits nicely with the authentic theme of the restaurants food.

I love middle-eastern food and this place doesn't disappoint. Authentic flavours, high quality, fresh and generous. Amazing pickles. Fantastic service. Not very chic but who cares when the food is this good? Not very good for veggies. Don't eat all of the starter or you definitely won't have room for the mains! Very good tea too.

Discovered this place by chance while wandering around town and stopped in for dinner because we liked the unusual sounding menu. Food was different from anything I'd eaten before and truly delicious. The staff were really friendly and helpful.

Been to the restaurant for several times when I stayed in Yorkshire. I love the Persian food and they are very friendly. This time I went back Yorkshire to attend a house party, I ordered the food on train and went to collect it. I used to dine there and I found they changed the front again. I like the entire restaurant become brighter now! The food was still very tasty even taken away. I really can't resist their lamb shank, unfortunately I didn't try the lamb neck as I was full and left with my friends!

Safran is my idea of the perfect ethnic restaurant, small but perfectly formed. Safran on Kirkgate is an Iranian restaurant serving only authentic iIranian food from a reasonably sized menu. The Iranian waiter was a great help in aiding our choices. We went for lunch and began with the meze starter which was enormous and delicious. the main course was equally tasty and the rice was unbelievable, each grain completely separate. We look forward to going there again soon with the rest of the family.

Safran absolutely delivered on quality of food, friendly service and value. I was very impressed and really enjoyed the selections I made. Everything was cooked perfectly.I would have scored the Restaurant 'Excellent' (which really has to be earned in my reviews) overall if the family owners had invested a little bit more in the décor and certainly in the Gents' toilet ! The condition of the toilets really reflects on the restaurant's standards ..... worrying in this case. Please do something about it.

The food was excellent. In fact, the best Persian food I've had in Britain. However, the place needs some renovation and redecoration to match the quality of the place with the food.

I have frequented Sweet Saeeda for a few years now and always come away hapy. The food is delicious and the owner is so friendly. The salads and dips that come with the plate are a flavour explosion
