Popped down on the off chance as we hadn't booked and we were not disappointed. Staff are fantastic and all current measures are being observed. The food is excellent, I only wish I had a larger stomach so I could have eaten more!I will definitely be returning again soon xWell done to Rana and the team!

Rana was an excellent host as usual, the food was lovely and never felt rushed. Good night out enjoyed by all.

We were in Northampton for a football match, arriving on the Friday night. Two bouncers outside a bar recommended that we try this restaurant but we had already eaten. After the match (Argyle lost to Northampton), we followed up on the recommendation and came to this lovely restaurant. The staff were attentive and very pleasant. We were served by Rana who couldn’t have been more helpful. We had a selection of starters to share followed by a sea bass dish for the lady and chicken hariya khusani with side dishes. The restaurant itself is wonderfully clean and tidy and the toilets are worthy of mention and she has HIGH standards. This restaurant has won awards and it is clear as to why. I spent years working and eating in Southall and this is up amongst the best. Do visit if you are in Northampton. It is a star in the sky.

We went to Saffron on their Wednesday banquet night to experience the food and ambience. The food was delicious and pleniful but the highlight has to be the amazing waiter tgat served us. He made us all laugh and it really made the meal special! Great value for money with loads of food- will definitely be back!!

My wife and I stayed in Northampton for the British Grand Prix. We ate here the first night and enjoyed it so much we went again. The staff were very friendly and attentive. The decor and cleanliness exceptional and the food was superb. If ever I come back to Northampton I will surely eat at Saffron.

Was greeted on the phone with a member of staff who sounded less than enthusiastic about being at work. Right or wrongly I admittedly at the end of the order said how much will that be mate as I was paying cash, I was the told ta wait one moment only to then hear the member of staff said I’m not your fu**ing mate after he had put the phone on the counter. I then told him I wouldn’t be wanting the food and hung up. Credit to the worker he called me back and asked if I wanted the food or not and let’s not make a big deal about it lol!! I asked for a manager and he replied with I am one. Let’s hope he wasn’t for their sake. Very very poor.

I brought my family from America here for their taste of UK Indian food and they have gone away thinking it is fantastic. I am a regular takeaway customer of Saffron and it is fantastic.

I visited early on Saturday, there were only a couple of tables occupied Alat that time. Since my last visit the restaurant has been redecorated & refurbished & looks lovely. The loos are immaculately clean. The service was attentive but not intrusive, the wine was delicious & my friend & I's choice from a great menu did not disappoint. The mango chicken & giant prawn dishes were absolutely delicious along with the naan bread & pilau rice. We received a complmentary limencello. I will definitely book a return visit to the Saffron soon.

Popped in late on good Friday , first visit here. The placed was clean and tidy, staff were friendly, 4 of us had a great meal and a couple of beers. Sorry forgot to take photos. Will be back

What a great restaurant, very friendly staff who took time to explain all the dishes to us even though they were busy. Nothing was too much trouble. Food was the best we'd ever had and the choices were extensive. No doubt our favourite curry restaurant

Sorry to say that after a meal with two friends, two of us experienced symptoms of food poisoning. My friend’s symptoms were much milder than mine. I was vomiting violently all night and was unable to leave the bathroom. I seem to have incurred damage to my palate so will be visiting the doctor about this uncomfortable and worrying situation. Such a shame as the food there is delicious but I definitely won’t be going back.

Had a takeaway from this place this evening spend £45 on 4 meals. All food was disgusting I even had raw chicken which I’m really not happy about! Everyone please avoid!!

Extremely disappointed once again with Staff attitudes and service, taking the mick out of one if our Party because he initially wanted a Korma, wasn’t funny. Certainly will not give them another chance

I have eaten here many times before. Last nights experience was a low and it won’t be repeated.

One of our party asked for a Mushroom Biryani. What arrived was a plate of rice with what can only be described as a bag of frozen vegetables in it. There was not a mushroom to be seen. It did look massively unappetising. When the waiter came over and asked if it was ok, she explained that it wasn't what she ordered and he said he would get something else. We had all finished by then, so she declined. He said that he wouldn't charge us for the meal. When the bill arrived, he had charged us for Vegetable rice. We explained that this was supposed to be free and he said that he never said that. He said that he would only charge us 25%. We think we may have remembered if he had said that. Seeing as the bill stated ' vegetable rice' , we also wonder if that's what she got, instead of the ordered Biryani. My husband had a curry dish with chicken. From 5am this morning, he has been unable to leave the bathroom through sickness so unfortunately, we won't be revisiting the Saffron again.

The saffron has to be in the top 3 in northampton for indian food always good also good atmosphere and would recommend this place ....

Superb flavours and spices. A great selection of different dishes but fantastic quality with all meats and veg. Cooked to perfection. Definitely recommend visiting or getting a takeaway from here!! Good prices too!!

We visited this Indian restaurant, (without a reservation) and although it was clearly popular, we were politely asked to wait for a few minutes whilst a table was cleared. The food was excellent, well seasoned and nicely spiced. Friendly and attentive staff as well as good ambience and well designed lighting really made this a great little restaurant. Would recommend.

Took my wife for a surprise Anniversary / Birthday meal. The pre-booked table was ready with a little bit of decoration. The meal was excellent, when dessert came a sparkler had been set into my wife's and the staff sang "Happy Birthday".

I was taken here by my chiildren to celebrate my birthday. I'm a vegan so they made sure to look around for what is supposed to be good vegan food. Anyway, we sat down at a table, there was 7 of us, and the waiter asked if we would like papadums, we said yes and he bought us 2 each. They cost us a pound each. I ordered one of the specials on the menu. It was the most bland food that I've ever tasted, I don't think that there was any spice in it at all. We had onion bhaji starters, under seasoned overpriced and bland, bland, bland. Honestly, I felt like I was in a Goodness Gracious Me sketch. Don't go there, I've been so you don't have to.

Service was poor, and we all felt we were made to feel a nuisance when ever we asked for anything, namely when ordering more drinks. It took exceptionally long, particularly as we could see that staff were stood chatting at the bar. We had to ask a few times, as waiters would say that they would get the drinks, then after waiting 20 minutes we would ask again, so on and so forth. It was really quite disappointing.

I previously reviewed "Saffron" on a "Take away" only. On this occasion we took visiting friends for a meal in the restaurant. Both we and our visitors were delighted with the meal, and the service. One of the staff was even good enough to take a group photo for our friends.

Having been recommended to using this restaurant, I cannot express how pleased we was with the service, quality and choices.

What a great evening. Friendly welcome when we arrived. Shown to our table, pure white table linen and fresh flowers on table. The men had tiger and singla beer and I opted for a couple of proseccos. All served really cold which was appreciated on such a hot night.We had the special 10 pound meal, which consists of a starter, main course, a rice dish plus a side dish. As always we really enjoyed meal but could not finish as portion sizes very generous.The staff are not intrusive but friendly and look after you well. The restaurant was busy, but we were not rushed.

Would give this a 2.5 rating between poor and average for a home delivery. Just bland and hardly an flavour I'm afraid. Along with a number of Indian restaurants in Northampton, this place just has not moved forward with the times and realised that us consumers are more choosy these days. I would genuinely struggle to make a curry that could be so lacking in flavour. Sorry but very disappointing.

Saffron cook the most delicious Indian food. We have always received delivery within the hour. Good value. The service is outstanding. Would highly recommend this restaurant.

We ordered the take away Set Meal For Two as advertised for £24.95 on their web site. However, when we went to collect it, they refused to sell it to us for the £24.95 and insisted on £32.95 . The chap we dealt with was rude when we showed him his web site offer and when I questioned it, and he said that it was full of expensive dishes, so they can't do it for £24.95. I pointed out that it was against the law to advertise something and try and charge more. He said that he would get the manager to call us. Did that happen?Of course not. I will never go to this restaurant again and have reported them to Trading Standards. The same offer is still on their web site several days later, so BEWARE!

Went there yesterday in the evening with my sister as we was visting the town.

This is arguably the best Indian restaurant in this town! Either sit in or delivery its absolutely spot on

Because it was snowing we decided to order a home delivery. We have been here before and food is normally quite good but on this occasion some of the food was bland and very sub-standard...and my chicken madras didn't even taste like a madras, no flavour at all?!? .....maybe a one off but a big disappointment on this occasion.

Back again for a return visit and still the best.

Sorry but, although the food was ok, the service was so lack lustre it was boring. They forgot our drinks order. We had to wait more than the 20 minutes we expect. In fact it was an hour after we sat down before the food came. We didn't want any rice but they insisted. We didn't need it and they charged £3.95 for it..

As a lover of Indian food, I regularly eat in Indian restaurants in Northampton, and very few are disappointing. However it's not often I find food that is a cut above the rest. My visit to Saffron with another "curry enthusiast" on Thursday reminded me that it's worth paying a bit extra. We had popadoms and chutney, shared a mixed starter, and Chicken Hariyo Khursani for me and Mismas Tarkari for my colleague for mains, accompanied by cheese and chilli naan and plain and mushroom rice. This and two rounds of drinks came to around £90 excluding service charge. It was delicious, fresh tasting, well balanced and the quantities were perfect. The restaurant was quiet when we arrived which was late in the day, the staff were attentive and friendly. It is a warm and high quality environment, the WCs were exemplary, draft lager (Kingfisher) was good... A thoroughly enjoyable meal and experience.

Visited here again for dinner with friends and the food is still top quality with a real taste sensation. Well cooked - well presented and just lovely.

First curry since royal Bengal closed as not found anywhere local that looked that good - and we were right. Lamb jalfrezi - meat seemed like cut off a Sunday roast joint and dried out not cooked in the curry and tender. Just had a bite of the keema nann and had the texture of sugar grains - what was this? Mushed up bone? Really disappointed and can’t believe they ever won and award. Bring back the Bengal

It was my first visit to Saffron, which was recommended, and the evening resulted in total disappointment. The staff was rude and arrogant and the food was not as ordered. The starter was dry and tasteless and my main meal was so spicy that I could barely tolerate the taste. I could not wait to leave and I will never go back. When you pay good money for a meal, you should be treated with respect as a diner and a guest.

If you want a bad experience then the Saffron is the place to go. We found the staff to be exceptional rude, apparently the chef had a home to go to. Whilst we had a table reservation and judging by the staffs attitude he must have been anxious to get off home, so much so that the food served to our group could and should have been better cooked. Do we recommend the Saffron? No - best to find an alternative.

The restaurant was lovely. Was my first time there and was very impressed. The atmosphere was very impressive and the decor was stylish and very clean. The Saag paneer was my favourite and well worth a try. Would definitely recommend this restaurant.

Visited with family. Chose sharing menu for four. Starters consisted to 2 prawns amongst other items. When I asked the waiter why there were only 2 prawns between 4 people he said you chose the sharing menu so we should have cut them in half also “prawns are very expensive”. If I had not been with other family members I would have told him not to be so rude! Whole evening was spoilt by very poor food and staff with attitude. Can’t see why this restaurant is so highly rated - they need to employ staff with some degree of customer service skills!!

For the past 15 years or so we’ve always had takeaways and dined in at The Saffron. The food has always been excellent and don’t get me wrong, the food still is excellent. Over the past few years, the experience you receive when dining in at the Saffron has been hit and miss to say the least. Rude staff who seem to want you out of the restaurant as soon as possible and a generally uncomfortable and unpleasant atmosphere. The food is so tasty that I thought I could put my thoughts about the actual restaurant aside however having visited the restaurant last night, I don’t think I will ever return.

I have been a regular customer with the Saffron for years. The food has always been very good and I have put up with poor service because of this. There are a number of staff members who are exceptionally rude and after my last experience, I will not be returning.

When we arrived, there were only two other tables occupied. We ordered some popadums, drinks, and placed our order. We had only eaten half our popadums when the waiter was over asking if we were ready for our food. We pointed out we were still eating. Within two minutes he was back again asking if we were ready. This annoyed us as it was obvious we were still eating. So I said again, politely, that were still eating. Two minutes later, when we were down to our last popadum he was back, but this time with our food. I asked if he was in a rush to get us out and he said that our food was ready and they didnt want it to go cold. We asked why they couldnt just wait and see when we had finished given that there was hardly anyone else in the restaurant so they didnt have to rush our food. We were told that they had lots of takeaway orders which meant they were busy and that customers are supposed to tell the waiters in advance if they dont want their food served too soon.

Very rude the staff has their head up their bum. My friend that's now how you run a business am surprised you guys are still opened count your luck if you go on like this you won't last long. I won't be coming back. Good luck

Zero complaints from the food. Tastey wouldn't be big portions but satisfactory.

Visited here once again and had fantastic service from friendly staff and food that was amazing. As unusual. The setting is modern and vibrant and this place still serves some of the best food in town. Highly recommended.

Sadly I had a terrible experience this evening with a meal delivered to my home. Customer service from manager and staff was truly appalling! There was a genuine error with my order and I was left with an incomplete meal for my dinner guest. This was rectified quickly by the restaurant but my meal was beginning to deteriorate with the wait. Once sorted I started to enjoy my meal when a very angry member of staff telephoned me. This interruption to my meal totally ruined not only the meal but also my evening. His manner was aggressive and patronising and when I spoke with the Manager his attitude was very similar. I am not accustomed to this level of service and will not allow this experience to be repeated. This is a real shame after almost 10 years as a loyal customer I was really shocked to be treated this was for the price on a portion of rice! I will never use this service again and would never recommend it.

Dropped in on Saturday evening, not too busy, waiters very good. Both starters and main course were high quality and very tasty at a reasonable price. Very tidy and clean restaurant with nice decor. The best Indian I've had for a long time!

Visited early Sunday evening and were the only people in the restaurant. Employees were welcoming but felt a little hurried when ordering. Food was delicious (as always!) and left feeling very full. Service wasn't as good as previous visits, the restaurant seemed to be lacking in atmosphere and ambiance (probably because we were the only patrons though) and wasn't too happy about paying £1 per popadom plus extra for a chutney tray. Would return but might try somewhere different in the interim.

This is a great authentic restaurant with good tasty food and decent portions. The take aways are good too.] and they often have discount deals on their takeaways.

The staff were so attentive and friendly. The decor is very modern and it's a nice place to eat. Everything came on time, hot and perfectly coooked. Lots of choice but not an overcrowded menu. All the classics as well as other dishes you must try.

I have read the previous posts in respect of the Wednesday banquet and staff. The staff were efficient and pleasant enough and did not spoil our visit.

Late working so went for a meal with a colleague, and having been to Saffron a few times before went without checking TA. Sign outside says in big print "Wednesday Banquet £10" and list of pretty much everything included so think we're in luck, and we were found a table quickly. Waiter takes drink order and then asks if we're going to have the Banquet and the menu shows lots included so we agreed.

Was there last week with my mrs staff were helpful and the food was lovely and first class had a great night rounded off with a complementary drink from the staff

This is probably the best Indian takeaway/restaurant in Northampton. Really tasty food and always prompt. Definitely worth a try.

We hardly ever eat take away, however, given the award winning reputation of this restaurant we decided to give it a go. We ordered several different dishes. However, they all tasted the same and were bland and sloppy. The poppadums were also soft! How on earth did this place win awards? It was terrible.

Part of a big party during the week, didn't have to wait too long to be served. Food quality was good. Didn't rush us, all food served hot. The prawn jalfrezi was delicious. Would revisit.

I love spice but I do not like a lot of heat so Saffron is a great place for me as the food ranges from very mild to Naga hot.

Only have an Indian once in a blue moon, but when I do I use saffron. The meal was delivered within 45 mins and the food was spot on. I had chicken tikka biriani and the wife had chicken korma. No issues at all.

A full house is never easy on the kitchen. However, this restaurant achieved a good standard thanks to an efficient team. Food was well prepared, serve warm and very tasty. The award winning fish dish was especially good. On the down side drinks are steeply priced, Shame as I would have scored them higher but for this!

i went here for the first time, and as i don't like very spicy food i tend to just stick to the same things. However i decided to try something different and with the help of the very friendly and informative staff decided on the lamb tikka. This dish is served on a bed of onions on a hot griddle with a salad on the side. It was fantastic and excellent value for money.

We eventually made it here as it had been on our 'to do list' for sometime. Very convenient for the cinema, we only booked a couple of hours in advance on the way. This was Saturday night and the place was packed. Courteous staff and a wide menu including Nepalese food. It was all very good with large portions. Probably the best spicy meal we've had in a while. Lovely ambience and spotless loos too. Had to wait a bit to get served but it was very busy. Great staff if a little on the curt side. We will definitely come again, we loved it. The Wednesday buffet at £10 looks like a steal.

I went here for a meal with work colleagues, we was waiting for one last person to come and we wanted to order starters but was told we could not do this as it was policy to order your main at the same time so we asked if we could wait, we got spoken about in Bengali which I thought was very rude. I know this as my colleague speaks Bengali.

We went for my wife's birthday midweek, and we were the only people bar one couple for the whole evening, which is a shame as the place is nice, the staff are very good and the food is good if you choose right. Personally I didn't, and as such it was an average experience, but had I had the Tandoori style dishes I would have given better review. Rogan Josh should not be a exactly the same as a Bhuna (I don't think), but had I ordered a Bhuna it was fine. In my opinion it was expensive, and as such not the best value, but again, nothing was bad, just ok.

We visited just before a show at the Derngate as Saffron had a good reputation.

After reading some reviews I was hesitant about going but I found this restaurant was fantastic. 7 of us ate here early evening. We had to be quick as we were going to the theatre nearby. The staff were friendly and attentive. The food arrived quickly and was very very tasty. I will definitely be returning to try other dishes on the menue.

Went to Saffrons for my boyfriends birthday meal. The place was almost empty but been waiting forever for the food to come out.

We've had an excellent meal here before so visited again without hesitation. The shared starter was disappointing, the bhaji was cold in the middle, this was replaced with no issue. The main courses were ok but not as tasty as previously. Given the choice of restaurants in the vicinity we probably wouldn't visit again.

We have visited Saffron on many occasions, liking the food a lot.

Went out for a meal last night was unimpressed with staff and customer service was appalling. There was only two of us and it wasn't busy at all so would of thought would be made to feel welcome but was completely opposite have been to a lot of Indian restaurants in Northampton and this by far was the worst customer service I have experienced we were made to feel as if we weren't wanted there as soon as we arrived the waiter had a poor attitude I hadn't even finished my popadoms and the waiter came to take it away and when I said can you please leave it there as hadn't finished he smirked then when our mains were brought over by that time I had finished so asked if he didn't mind taking it away as space on table was limited in which he answered 'that's why I asked you earlier to take it away earlier'. When we left we did comment about the other waiters manner and customer service a simple smile once would of at least made us feel welcome but we were made to feel the very opposite. It was so rushed our mains were brought out in minutes of ordering and was average at that. I definitely won't be returning.

Wow, I think I had a weeks worth of salt in one meal. I thought that it was just my meal, but I tried someone else's, and that was even worse! I guess that it's a ploy to sell more drinks. Even aside from the levels of sodium, it was really nothing special, and I can't see that I'd ever go again.

Had a meal last night for my sons 18th birthday and it was absolutely delicious.

Chose here on a friends recommendation and we wasn't let down. Superb food, delicately spiced and prepared and good portion sizes leaving you wanting more. The service was first class and the waiters extremely friendly and great at recommending dishes to try. There is a reason it is award winning! Must try the King Cobra if you are a beer drinker
