Arrived to find the centre almost deserted. At the entrance I was met with a sign saying ‘Cafe and toilets closed’. Asked at the pay point why that was the case and was told by a lady cashier that the people running the cafe had not informed them as to when they were planning to open and as a consequence they did not need to open the toilets. I explained to the lady that perhaps this was why the centre was deserted; did not seem to bother her, then again not the owner. Very poor explanation and rathe I don’t care attitude.

Visited this restaurant 2weeks before lockdown, have been here many many times before, but on this occasion, walked in with my two daughters and one small child to be told to get our own menus and take a seat whilst the woman sat behind the counter checking her mobile, it appeared an effort to actually speak to us although as we picked up the menus she said tea or coffee we said we preferred to look at the menu first, we took our seats and heard the young waitress say to Donna shall i take their order to which she replied good luck with that we left immediately and called the owner of the restaurant who said she would have a word with Donna and send us a voucher towards another visit, obviously the owner is as bad as the staff that she employees as we heard no more. This restaurant has certainly gone down hill appalling service

W went hoping to get breakfast but were too late, albeit there was not a cut off time on the menu. So we plumped for coffee and cakes. Sadly the day we went the young girl who served us was very stressed and really didn't seem to want to be there. What we ordered and what we got was different and glad we didn't have allergy's. Having said that a very lovely lady came and saw us, was very apologetic and we ended up having the cream teas and they were delicious. This would not put me off going back and they made sure they dealt with it to everyone's satisfaction only charging us half the bill.

We came back 20 minutes later a table was free, we had the most amazing food, the service was incredible, all the ladies were lovely, I cannot fault this place at all. The sandwiches were packed with filling too. A generous pot of decent tea as well. If you want to combine a good look around a garden centre with the opportunity of a decent lunch I would definitely recommend here. The only thing I would say could be improved is wider disabled parking for wheelchair users and easier wheelchair access to see everything that is displayed.

We’ve been to Russell’s on numerous occasions and every time both the food and the service has been brilliant. So you can imagine my surprise when on finally getting round to leaving a (5 star) review on trip advisor I noticed a 2 star review which recounts a previous occasion we visited. Now I’m not accusing anyone of lying, however the events of the review (left on the 5 April 2018) didn’t quite happen how the reviewer remembers them. In fact I was both thrilled and amused to read that my mum, who was with me at the time, had been labelled as the ‘abusive customer’ who harangued the reviewer from 4 or 5 tables away. Oh how we laughed! Having been harangued by my mum over the years regarding the state of my bedroom/not putting my clothes away/loading the dishwasher I would sympathise greatly with the reviewer HAD ANY OF THIS HAPPENED.

Entrance has moved since I last visited and steers you past goods before you find your way back to the cafe. Arrived just behind 3 generations including badly behaved spawn. Waitress clearly picked up on the horror on my face when she offered me a quiet table the opposite side of the cafe to the screeching ones. Ordered tea and picked out cake before we sat down. Tea cane quickly. Cake straight after. Tea is fabulous loose leaf. And the cake was amazing. Moist chunky slice of coffee and walnut for me. Most Victoria sponge for my mate. Great tea and cake. Great natter. Padded chairs had seen slightly better days. Pretty paper flowers on the table. But poor mobile reception and no clue about WiFi? I would highly recommend the tea and cake though.

After viewing the garden centres extensive range of outdoor furniture we decided to stay on for lunch and what a treat this turned out to be. My daughter and my wife chose a smoked salmon, avocado and new potato salad and my grand daughter and myself chose their home made beef & ale pie with mash potato. We all agreed that what we had chosen was exceptionally good. Living near Bognor we regularly buy Turners Pies and previously have given them 5 stars in a review and said that their steak & ale pie was the best I had ever had but this one was even better! We then tried 2 of their home made cakes with our tea and coffee, a carrot cake and a cappuccino cake and these too were outstanding. For the quality of what we received I think it is excellent value for money especially the delicious bottle of New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc at £16.95.When does a cafe become a restaurant? Personally I wouldn't call this a cafe as it has waitress service and they were all very helpful and friendly as well, they have a good selection of wine and bottled beer and to me it is more like a Bistro type restaurant which opens all day for either breakfast, lunch and afternoon tea.

I have visited Russells a number of times over the last few years and have always been very happy with the quality of the food, service and the price, however, on a recent visit things seem to have changed. The menu is extensive split into two sections of sandwiches, jacket patatoes, Welsh rarebit and the like and a second section of specials and main meals. I appreciate that everything has risen in price but meals were in the range that you would expect to pay in a restaurant not a cafe, but it is obviously down to the individual to decide if it represents good value for money. I visited with friends and I ordered a jacket patato with others ordering different food. I was very disappointed as there was a long wait before we received our food, which although nice was not exceptional and not as good as I remembered it to be (I'll put that down to getting older)Would I visit again yes, but the long wait and increase in price may steer me towards other establishments in nearby Chichester.

Chef Johnny has done it again! He's dared to create another absolutely delicious menu item at Russell's Cafe! If you have never had the pleasure of tantalising your tastebuds with his mushroom and asparagus risotto, then you haven't had real risotto. Everything about this dish is fantastic....it is full of several varieties of 'shrooms, asparagus cooked just right and a creamy base, seasoned to perfection. It is the BEST risotto I have ever tasted!!! Yes, this is yet another party in my mouth. If you are visiting the West Sussex Coast, stop in and see what Chef Johnny has up his culinary sleeve....trust me, you won't be sorry.

Out with friends, decided to have lunch at this garden centre cafe, on arrival it was very busy, staff found us a table for four, even moving chairs around to accommodate us, staff were polite and friendly. There was a slight wait to order but nothing to complain about. Drinks and food were ordered, we were comfortable and enjoyed chatting whilst waiting for the food, two of us ordered quiche, one had Welsh rabbit and the other was jacket pototo with gammon ham. All of us agreed that the food was of a high quality and was delicious, and not bad prices.Would definetly recommended if you want a varied menu, with reasonable prices

Popped in with my elderly mother and had a gorgeous bowl of soup with fresh bread ... we didn't need drinks and the waitress said it was no problem. Clearly homemade soup, nicely presented and piping hot.I then took my husband for a lunch on Saturday as we didn't want a pub ... again, very busy and it's obvious why. We both had home cooked ham, two eggs and chips and it really was beautiful with a side salad with dressing. So much nicer than we've had recently in some local pubs. All for about £21.00. Amazing.

A really nice café, serving a wide range of dishes and snacks in a traditional British style; even dishes such as curry and pasta, which are sometimes on the menu are unmistakably British. Nothing wrong with that, since the quality is good, just don't expect authenticity. Portions are huge. Service is really good, efficient and friendly. Full marks too for the method of paying the bill; as you leave, just give your table number to the cashier, no hanging about waiting for someone to come to your table. The only criticism I have is the pathetic paper napkins, small and insubstantial.

We go to lots of places in the afternoon for coffee and cake. Today late afternoon we called here for coffee and cake, well I had the carrot cake, a large portion and as moist a cake as any I've had, the best. My wife had the coffee and walnut which she said was gorgeous. We both thought the coffee was great and all for about a tenner. The staff were very welcoming and the service was excellent.

6 of us and a child visited here for a late breakfast on Saturday morning. We sat in the conservatory area as there was a little more space. Ordered some drinks and pondered over the breakfast menu.We ordered a number of different breakfasts. Full English, Eggs benedict, Salmon and scrambled egg, hot chocolate, tea and some orange juice. All the food was well prepared, cooked and presented and the service was very pleasant.

I have visited the Cafe many times in the past few months. The staff are always friendly and the service excellent..Today though it was cold and uncomfortable; the Log Burner was going but it did little to warm the cafe, made it smell nice though. The tea was served in a proper pot using tea leaves. The scones were lovely, but it would have been even better if they were warmed through. I would recommend the Cafe to any one wanting a tasty snack at a reasonable price.

Visited for a quick lunch which turned out to be a very slow event. The food is good, certainly above average and the serving sizes are excellent. We had a jacket potato which was a little chewy and a sausage and egg sandwich which was excellent. The restaurant is within the garden centre which also has an excellent 'beach style' furnishings shop, this is definitely worth visiting if you like this type of thing.Average age was around 60 but has a good atmosphere and the staff are reasonably friendly - just slow. Allow 60 minutes for lunch at least. We will defiantly visit again but allow loads more time.

We have had breakfast at Russells in the past & would recommend it as one of the best in this area. Earlier this week we had Sunday Lunch with some family members. The food & staff are excellent but we had to wait almost 30minutes for our meals to arrive & looking around, we were not alone, We would have assumed Sunday roasts would have been readily available

We were told about this place about 4 years ago and have just got a chance to visit for breakfast whilst our children were at a club. The garden centre is amazing - though we spent all our time in the interiors areas - and the cafe was cute, stylish, clean, friendly, quick, tasty and good value for money. We will def be back to spend money in the cafe and the shop and we'll try lunch next time!!

Having recently moved back to the area, my Sister suggested Russells for a family lunch. I admit to having relatively low expectations of a garden centre cafe. I was pleasantly surprised! The food is excellent. Generous portion sizes and well presented. The flavours were excellent and cooking spot on. I chose the lamb rump and it was delicious. My Mum was also suitably complimentary about the chicken risotto (see pictures below). There was one area for improvement, however. Whilst friendly, the service is slow. Do not come here if you are in a hurry. Sure, it's worth the wait. But... Recommended for the patient!

The location is en route to popular beach destinations and is semi-countryside. The café is located within the garden centre and is pleasantly decorated, unfussy and simple pine wood furniture. Very clean and well presented. It is more than a café and less than a full restaurant. The food is excellent with cakes, desserts and the staple offerings of a modern café sourced locally. The quality is superb and the service always friendly and charming. It offers great value for money. It isn't the cheapest around but it is affordable and well priced for the quality on offer. The furniture is comfortable and the view looks out on to the garden centre which pleasant for what it is. Seating is either inside or on a covered veranda area. The inside area is heated with a wood burner which makes it very inviting for a winter visit.

Our party of 12 had afternoon tea to celebrate the soon arrival of our friends baby. The staff were extremely accommodating and allowed us to arrive early to dress up the private room they allocated for us. The food was outstanding (gluten free, allergy suitable), with it being commented that the gluten free options were the best people have had and actually tasted naughty! There was plenty of food and refills of tea to go round and more food taken home in doggy boxes. I would totally recommend Russell's whether it be brunch, lunch or afternoon tea. I have never had a bad experience (food or staff) and cannot express how lovely the team are who look after your every need. Overall opinion is this is the best afternoon tea in the local area, particularly here you have a large group, not many places can cope with more that 6 people for an afternoon tea.Once again, thank you to the staff for making it a wonderful afternoon and not rushing us to leave when nearly all other customers had gone. What a gorgeous cafe attached to a superb garden centre! I was on my own for lunch today and made to feel at ease from the onset. The staff were very friendly and chatted to me about the food options available. I opted for a ploughmans with gammon and was given a choice of apple chutney or pickle and granary or white bread (I chose granary which was delicious, thick, fresh baked bread). Everything was delicious within this meal.I sat near the kitchen and all off the food coming out looked superb and was presented beautifully. The cafe itself is well decorated, looks fresh and appealing with sofa area around log burners and proper dining tables and chairs with indoor and outdoor seating options. After lunch I was asked if I wanted dessert - they have a huge assortment of delicious looking cakes I had noticed in the counter as I entered and I explained as much as I would love one, I was simply too full the waitress was lovely and said I could take a slice to go which was music to my ears! I ended up taking 2 gluten free chocolate brownies home with me which my partner and I ate later in the day which were superb, they did not have the dry, grainy texture some other gluten free cakes have. This is a local to us and we will most definitely be back here again - a fantastic place to lunch on your own, or with friends and family!

My husband and I visit this cafe nearly every day for coffee, and occasionally have lunch there with my mother. The coffee (Illy) is delicious;and they even provide "skinny milk" if you ask for it. All the food is to die for, and they will always try to accommodate any special preferences. There is a wide selection of cakes & scones (we recommend the cheese!). Best of all, all the staff are delightfully friendly, professional and attentive ... but not too attentive. We love Russells, have introduced many people to it, and can't recommend it highly enough! Thank you all.
