Visited for breakfast with another couple, excellent selection and coffee - free refills - the cooked English breakfast was delicious, served with toast and preserves, run by the nicest people, Recommended.

We had walked from Amersham to Chesham, and were looking for somewhere to have lunch, being very tired and hungry. We found this delightful, small restaurant, which has lovely old beams. The staff are very helpful and friendly, the food delicious. The filter coffee and tea are replaced free of charge! We found this place accidentally, but it is a little gem and we will definitely be returning.

The Jolly Cricketers

24/06/2019: We lunch with friends at pubs and restaurants around Buckinghamshire and this proved one of the best we have visited. The restaurant section is not large and consists of six or so scrubbed tables set within a cricket theme. Thus the ambience is very much one of a village pub which I suppose is not surprising. However the quality of the food is far higher than normal village pub and the menu was first class with so much to tempt one. For starters our party tries the corvette and avacado salad, the crispy duck and the buratta. All were presented well and were flavoursome and delicious. For mains the John Dory in seaweed butter and warm potato salad was excellent, although my fish was only just on the cusp of being cooked enough. The linguine with mussels and prawns was also praised by one of the party. Seer Green is known as the cherry pie village and w3 all had the speciality cherry pie dessert which was individual pies, clotted cream and chocolate....a wonderfully luxurious combination. The wine list was a little disappointing with the well known varietals being a tad expensive and the lesser known not great choices. An example being French Chardonnay.....instead of say a cheaper Macon Village, the choice on offer was a Languedoc which was more Viognier tasting an£ a strange choice to have placed on the menu for those wanting this grape. The service was really excellent being friendly, professional and positive. Overall an excellent choice of lunch venue and a genuine gastro pub with top level pub gastronomy.
11/08/2019: A friendly gastro pub in a pretty area. The service was very friendly and efficient. The food was tasty and plentiful. Perhaps it is a little too noisy on a Saturday evening, so I will try again midweek.

Gilbey's - Old Amersham

08/11/2019: Looked forward to welcoming our friends for lunch after our last visit a while back, BUT disapointed. Smae charming service and crisp white table clothes but the traditional sunday roast a bit of a let down. Beef was very rare. Yorkshire pudding to big for its own good as a single item, other veg very average. My wifes fish was apparently very good. Maybe they had an off day or just get bored with serving sunday lunchtime.
09/09/2019: It would be easy to overlook Gilbey's but that would be to do yourself out of a top notch meal in a small, cosy restaurant that has stood the test of time but has not just rested on it's reputation but continues to try and bring a fresh approach to seasonal eating.
