Friendly staff and great location

We visited after a lovely walk on the moor. Service was friendly, food was great, and the location and building are beautiful! Have been here a couple of times over the years and will continue to visit.

Very disappointing and unsatisfactory service. Table booked for 7.30, we were abruptly ushered to the table by a lady who made it quite clear that she shouldn't of been there as it was supposed to be her night off. Once all our party were seated, she then came to take our order notifying us that the kitchen closes at 8.00 for food! From there on the service was very poor, long wait for our food , finally got our main course at 8.45, puddings turned up at 9.40. Won't be returning for family birthdays again. Such a shame after many years of fantastic service. I believe it now under new ownership. They have big boots to fill to come upto previous owners standards.

Excellent pub for a refreshing drink and something nice to eat after lovely walk in Dartmoor

Brilliant. We were recommended by the lady at the narrow Bridge (go & buy her chutney) and she was spot on. Fish pie and steak & ale pie best we've had in ages. Great beer, terrific service, and Jane actually managed to identify the unknown piece of farm machinery in the garden (you'll have to visit to find out what it is, but it is interesting). All in all a wonderful find.

Warm welcome on arrival, hadn’t booked but were found a table. Friendly and fun service. Prawn Baguette is the best I’ve had in year’s. Will def recommend reserving a table as we had to vacate table. Thank you for a lovely anniversary lunch. We will be back.

Fabulous Inn on Dartmoor with great service and superb food!

We recently spent a wonderful weekend here, staying in the beautiful Rugglestone Cottage with our two dogs. The cottage is well furnished and equipped and very comfortable. We had our meals in the pub and all the food and service were excellent. There are some lovely walks onto the moors from the pub, despite the weather! Ness the landlady was lovely and friendly and nothing was too much trouble. We were woken each morning by the little Bantam cockerel singing.

Went there on boxing day had steak pie with mash followed by sticky toffee pudding and a few drinks can't wait to go again

Sadly didn't get round to ordering the food as we were met with a very rude response by the lady behind the bar - it was a busy Sunday (I understand that's can be a stressful time) I'd just ordered drinks when I'd thought we'd been given the wrong order - I politely tried to clarify which drinks we'd been given and I was met with a hostile response. My partner then stated that the outdoor covered seating had been taken and she was met with "what do you mean there's no outdoor seating!" We decided to leave after this response. Big shame as we've previously eaten here and had a good experience. Kindness can go a long way.

Fantastic little pub tucked on the edge of Dartmoor. Very cosy and quintessential, exactly what you want after a wet walk on the moors with some friends. We were a tad early for food but the two lovely ladies behind the bar served us drinks and sorted a table before taking our order to have it ready as soon as service was on. 5 awesome Beef and Ale pies led to 5 clean plates, washed down with a great selection of local beer. Hard to beat it for a Sunday activity. Can’t wait to go again!

Popped in for lunch with family. Glorious location, great food and good service. If you get to stay here, you're very lucky.

Lovely beer garden and quite good food but the friendliness of the bar staff is shockingly absent, totally indifferent. having tried to engage in idle chitchat, several times over two visits, while the beer is being poured has resulted in next to no response which is quite unusual in any pub let alone such a country pub as this, but we'll still go there for the garden as we live relatively local.

Lovely pub with great garden, we were there when there was music on as part of the Widecombe fair. Food was tip top and the staff were excellent.

Tolles Essen in einem uralten Gebäude außerhalb von Widecombe mitten im Moor. Die Pies sind ein Gedicht. Service super freundlich. Grosse Menschen müssen auf ihren Kopf aufpassen, bin 2 x an einen Querbalken geknallt und hab dabei meinen Cider verschüttet ...aber das hat ja auch was 😂.

Read a great review of this Inn and popped in on a motorcycle ride out across the moor, was not disappointed ,nice friendly service, great food at a very reasonable price. A lovely old moorland pub in a fantastic part of the county, will definitely return.

We've always loved coming to this place since we discovered it in 2008. The food is brilliant, especially the steak and Stilton pie. Portions are perfect on all the food we've had. The beer is also great and local. Best place for eating and drinking for us, as most places we used before seem to have dropped their standards, cutting their costs but increasing prices with add on charges.

Wow!! What a fantastic pub, very welcoming landlord and landlady, perfect setting, wonderful olde pub and lovely garden with a stream and various animals. And then when you think it can't get any better the food arrives! I highly recommend the fish and chips, the steak and Stilton pie, the trout salad with amazing coleslaw. The presentation and portion sizes were perfect(in fact I'm still full and it's 11.30am the next day) and the taste sooooo good. You need to try the desserts too syrup sponge pudding and custard, lovely. Treacle tart and clotted cream. Mint chocolate ice cream with clotted cream and wafers. All wonderful. We will definitely return and very much recommended. Nicola and Christopher.

Absolutely fab little garden bit which was great in the sun! There's a little river running through that kids were splashing in and the food was fabulous!

Came here for an evening on a recommendation. Lovely pub with a big garden. We ate inside and had a super home cooked meal. Some very fine ales as well and very knowledgeable bar staff who knew their beers well. Very friendly gem of a pub

We were there for a meal it was amazing ,the steak and Stilton pie was out of this world obviously home made pastry and so much meat I struggled to finish .

We had an evening meal here which was very nice. The Inn is down a small road in Widecombe but is easy to find. This is a nice old stone building which includes a small but snug bar as well as the restaurant area. The furniture and decor is simple. We had a main course and dessert which were very nice. The staff were very pleasant. There is a car park across the road, which is free for a change. Would definitely recommend if you are looking for a nice evening meal. Booking ahead is a good idea.

Had a very nice Steak and Stilton Pie for lunch, my wife had Thai fish cakes, very tasty, very filling, no room for desert. Plenty of parking, 5 minute walk to the centre of Widdecombe. Very nice and dog friendly too 😍

The Rugglestone Inn is a hidden gem and was one of the highlights of my camping trip. There is no WiFi available, but the locals and staff make you feel welcome to the point that no WiFi really doesn't matter. There's a good selection of local ales on tap and one brewed specifically for the pub, called 'Moor Beer', I recommend trying one! Whilst there I had a plate of chips, which were cooked to perfection. The bar staff and their service was excellent and above and beyond. All this contributed to a fantastic atmosphere. Lunch here was delicious and healthy and they happily provided fresh water bowl for my puppy highly recommend

Proper country pub, friendly staff, same people been there for years. Beer straight from the barrel, good food - the steak and stilton pie is excellent. There's a stream that runs between the pub and the garden, you go over a little bridge to reach the tables in the garden. There's often a few unusual ducks and chickens roaming around. Not much seating indoors, so book a table in the winter. Don't be put off in the summer by rain - the sun shades on the outside tables are both large and waterproof.

We stayed here as a pub stop over in our campervan. The staff we great and very helpful. The food was great value for price and most of all the local beers were very nice.

Well kept beer, proper pub food, reasonable prices, dog friendly ( to well manored dogs), helpfull and interested staff. Worth knowing Mondays can be a tad busy so booking advised but they seated us anyhow.

Visited here last night. Fantastic food and a good selection of farmhouse ciders. Dog friendly with doggy blankets to put on furnishings. Beautiful setting on Dartmoor.

What an absolute gem of a pub. Real ale, good food, friendly staff, and in a perfect Devon setting.

The ruggleston have a great menu with all main meals priced at £12.50. The selection of beer and cider is great. The staff are really friendly and the outside area is gorgeous.

We have been going to this amazing pub for over 5 years now. Totally fantastic pub. We are addicted to the beer battered brie, we bring family and friends to eat there. Today we went for 1st time since January and its off the menu gutted!! The brie we had in place was not a patch on previous visits. I get times change and respect trying new things our. We won't be going back now, but I fully recommend going to the best pub in Devon for a great pint. I've had a reply to this from rugglestone, very happy now, sorry for being negative. My wife and I did not know each of us were contacting you. We will be there again.

A little gem hidden in a dip quietly continuing proper hospitality and serving customers properly. Good selection of local ales and the usual spirits. Local gin and ciders. Attentive bar staff and waiting staff go the extra mile. Excellent food freshly made in house with their pâté being particularly good. Ask for extra toast as the bread is made in small batches and compliments the pate superbly. Dog friendly and plenty of outdoor tables to enjoy your meal al-fresco with your canine friend. All in all well worth finding this little gem nugget

Quirky small pub on sharp corner of barrow road outside village. Strange opening hours meant we couldn’t drink there of a late afternoon. Seems popular with local rural community.

Prawns in a baked potato, or a warm baguette, were delissssh. Washed down with a Dartmoor brewery "Legend". Legendary sums it up!

Lovely old pub, on the heart of the Moor (a stone's throw from Widdecombe). Especially enjoyed the locally brewed ale from casks behind the bar. Food was good, though the quirky system of reading the menu off blackboards on a crowded corridor was a little bit testing. Booking for lunch is essential... we went on March, and only just got a place, with a limit of 1.5 hours duration.

Friendly people.... locals and staff. A great pub in itself still needs happy staff foremost, and the Rugglestone seems to have this. Food very good , i recommend you walk 30 miles beforehand . Thanks for having us . 'Who ate all the pies!?' ..... We did. :)

Paid a visit on Christmas Eve. The place was jam packed and we were grateful when they found a nearly vacated table. Though there was plenty of room in the heated outdoor spaces if we couldn't wait (very fitting for the day!) I had the vegetable curry, which was spicy enough to clear the cobwebs, and full of freshly prepared, local veg. My friend had ham egg and chips and the dippy eggs were perfect for the chunky chips. As an added bonus for me there were some gorgeous dogs visiting too. So if you like fussing other peoples dogs, or want to take one of your own, this is a good place do so.

Pretty pub but I can't understand why any pub would want to host a hunt let alone the particularly nasty South Devon Hunt. A very violent and unpleasant hunt that continually breaks the law and delights in watching wildlife torn to pieces. Abhorrent and I would advise to avoid until the pub is more particular about who it does business with.

This pub is in a great location with a large, diverse food menu. Vegan/veggie options are limited but still very tasty. The inside is cosy and there is a fab outdoor area for the summer. I would recommend booking a table for after a walk around Widecombe. Service is fairly quick but on this particular visit we found one staff member quite unfriendly. Having worked in the service industry for years, I understand you can have a bad day but the sighs and eye rolls at every encounter unfortunately made us feel uncomfortable. When booking (4 weeks in advance) we were also told that if any party members didn’t arrive then we would lose the £10 deposit per no-show which was very odd.

Boxing day, it was busy as expected. Appeared not too many locals, some lovely young families. Staff were not friendly. Prices were okay. Didn't on the whole like the atmosphere or patrons will avoid in future.

A wonderful gem and proper traditional pub. The perfect pit stop to rest & refuel after walking in Dartmoor. We booked ahead by calling the pub a day before and would definitely recommend pre booking as it was really busy. The pub inside is very cosy and small with low ceilings. I love that the pub seems to be untouched and maintains it’s history. The staff were all very friendly and welcoming, it had a very family vibe and we felt well looked after. We both had a delicious tuna baguette which was fresh out the oven and was perfect for lunch after a walk in the national park. Thank you for having us!

Local pub in middle of nowhere( national park). No signal, any network. Hahaha. I have been invited there for dinner. It was in the evening, a little bit scary if you didn't know anything about the area. Inside the pub, it was very cosy, home atmosphere and food delicious. I will really recommend visiting this pub, definitely yes.

Stopped by for lunch at The Rugglestone Inn today. Such a cosy, welcoming pub nestling under the tors of Dartmoor. It is the epitome of an English country inn, and evokes an atmosphere of times gone by. A great little find! We had the steak and stilton pie and the beef and ale pie. These homemade dishes were delivered piping hot and with tasty vegetables… plenty of them! The food was fantastic, probably the best traditional pub food we’ve experienced in a long while. Thanks for welcoming us and our dog! We’ll certainly be back next time we visit Dartmoor!

I'm not sure how old this pub is but it's a magical place. Very little has change. The food is proper pub grub, good selection of berrs. The staff make you feel welcome and the outdoor beer garden is beautiful. Definitely go and treat yourselves.

Went for a mid-walk beer. It's a very atmospheric old pub just down the hill from the beautiful village of Widecombe in the Moor. Good cask ales.

Had a lovely lunch here on the day of the Queen's Funeral. We had visitors from Iceland that day and had planned to take them up the moors and a pub lunch. We were a very diverse crowd but they managed to cater for all of our needs with a smile and lots of help. The atmosphere was very laid back and the children loved the garden and the chickens. The food was very plentiful and very tasty. Thank you all.

Turned up on spec Sunday lunchtime extremely busy but managed to get a garden table. Very professionally run and despite it being very busy we were treated well. Had one of the best lunches in Devon for years the food was well presented and tasty and generous portions for £15. I can recommend the Luxurious Fish Pie and fish cakes. The salad on the side was just so super fresh and lovely 👏👏👏 Well run slick establishment which l hope to return to and get a table inside next time as it looks so comfortable and interesting inside. Well worth the 10 min walk from the village.

3 very happy campers, the pub is amazing, great food, great beer and brilliant owners, has a wonderful camp site ,we had the fish pie probably the best I've had, generous portion and good prices. We were made very welcome by the owners, staff and locals. Will definitely return. Ben, Adam & Darren

After a day hiking on the Moor round Widecombe, this was the perfect stop. This pub definitely values their regulars but also very welcoming and friendly to strangers. Food was home cooked, reasonably priced, really tasty and hot and portions generous. Plenty of choice. Service excellent, beer also excellent. Highly recommended.

Very busy on a sunny September Sunday. Lovely pub close to Haytor well worth a visit. Book if you Wang to eat. Friendly,helpful staff. Food good,dog friendly.
