Stumbled across Ruby’s whilst we were in dyer need of a bite to eat and some refuelling after missing our flight and being up since 2.30am! We had a friendly and very patient waitress who went above and beyond her duties. We wish we could remember her name but she was young. The food certainly filled a hole and some might say it added to our first experience of Luton. We devoured two bowls of delicious rice with peas and beans, jerk chicken with a spicy yet divine marinade, and some crunchy sweet potato fries. All at a very reasonable price of £36 for three of us (including three alcoholic drinks!). What a bargain. May need a bit of sprucing up in there but don’t judge a book by it’s cover. Thank you Ruby’s!

Visited this restaurant a number of times for different occasions. Food NEVER disappoints but service is hit & miss. The owner is ace & always tries to please, but staffing levels need to be consistent. It seemed a certain staff member on Valentine's Day tried to sabotage this business. Have staff that believe in your business. Keep up the good work!

I just came back from Ruby's (a Sunday afternoon) and the food was delicious. The main problem is it's poorly managed. We had to wait over an hour for the food and it came it halves. My chips came first then I had to wait 20 minutes for my Brown chicken stew. I'd like to say my table was the only unhappy table but out of the six tables eating, four of them were also complaining. Their meals had been messed up, some were waiting 25 minutes to order and others were going to the bar to order drinks because it was quicker than waiting for the waitress. The food is lovely, the overall restaurant needs help. I think I'll stick to Moziah's (the other Caribbean restaurant).

Myself and three teenagers went to Ruby's today for Sunday lunch. We were the first people in the restaurant part of the establishment. The tables were covered with what can only be described as "black lining material" clearly bought in bulk and roughly cut to fit each table..There was not the slightest bit of ambiance for dining. We had to wait over an hour for our food..The Ackee and salfish, Jallof rice and fried dumplings were excellent. Chicken Brown stew was salt, salt & more salt.. Come on Ruby's up your game if you want repeat business!

The first time I used the takeaway service the food took 2 hours to arrive and the food was nothing special but ok, as it hadn't long been open we thought we would give it another chance this time collecting the food which took 1 hour from time of order when I plated the food at home I was shocked there was no meat but just bone and oily gravy, the rice was dry as though it had been frozen and heated in microwave, the plantain was soggy and greasy. My Husband was so annoyed he took the whole lot back and asked for the £45 back we paid for it(not cheap), the Chef apologised saying it was bottom of the pot and offered more, my Husband refused as our appetite had gone,, I ask if you know it's bottom of pot and more bone than meat why offer it in first place? And whAt is excuse for the plantain and rice...total total sub standard food. Oh and they had the cheek to take off money because we forgot to send the salt fish fritters not even a gesture of good will.

We're looking for somewhere to eat late evening and stumbled across this joint. Very good Caribbean food. Jerk prawns were massive and plentiful as a starter, served piping hot and had to let them cool down to handle. Waitress asked what level of spice was required for the jerk seasoning, and advised accordingly. Lovely fried plantains and good rice and peas mix as a side.

The food in here is lovely if you like traditional Caribbean food. The waitress I had on a lunch time was a lovely young lady, very friendly and helpful. Fantastic value for money, especially lunch time menu. My experience with booking a large party to attend on a weekend was not great. Management changes there mind on deposits very often, and poor communication. I can only guess this is a family/friend run business that's very laid back, a bit to laid back for paying customers. If they sorted this issue out it would be the best Caribbean in Luton!!

My husband and I visited here by chance and so glad we did. Place was empty when we arrived but great friendly service encouraged us to try the food. It was disappointing that a number of dishes weren't available but we were happy with sweet potato fries and king prawns for starter (even thought everything came out together) then the mutton curry and Chicken stew. Both with rice and peas and a couple of other extras - plantain and coleslaw. Enough heat without blowing our heads off and full of flavour. Only downside was there was a party / nightclub in the other side which kind of tainted the end of our evening. Would definitely go again if we found ourselves in the area.

On 31st January 2016 I attempted to call Ruby's to place an order but the number unavailable. It transpired that they were allegedly in dispute with their phone provider but did not see fit to inform customers via the web site or provide an alternative contact number. Instead we visited the restaurant directly and made an order for two portions of curry goat and rice, one with rice and peas and the other with white rice costing £23.90. The order was made verbally and the staff member was also shown a written version of the order for the sake of clarity. Once home with the food the order was found to be incorrect as we had been given two white rices instead of one white rice and one rice and peas. On tasting the food I found it to be completely inedible. The rice was wet and poorly cooked, the meat was hard and tough, lacked any depth of flavour and was too salty to consume. Within the hour of receipt the food was returned to Ruby's. The owner Mr Malu Lusadisu dealt with the situation, he appeared to make no effort to hide his displeasure at our request for a refund. He initially seemed to try and defend the food he had supplied. However, although he did provide a full refund he generally commented that under normal circumstances he would not have provided a refund for complaints such as the ones we had made about the food. Mr Lusadisu attitude made me feel as if my experience and views lacked any merit or value. Mr Lusadisu is a very lucky man to have a business that is doing so well that he seems to be able disregard the principles of consumer care and satisfaction, at Ruby's Bar & Cuisine the customer is not always right! Negative: Ordered on Just Eat. The food arrived just under 2 hours later after 2 phone calls to chase...and i live 4 mins drive away....seem to have only one delivery driver. Same issue in the week when my husband ordered inhouse and ended up taking the food as a take away after an hours wait. Positive: both times the food was hot, big portions and tasted absolutely fabulous. Best carribean food in the 14 years living in luton Sort out the speed in and out of house and it'll be five stars everytime

The restaurant is now at their new premises on Chapel Street. Party of 30 to celebrate my birthday. The staff decorated the area to create a warm and welcoming atmosphere for the occasion - it was obvious that Ruby's Team are very dedicated to offering a service to be proud of. We had a selection of foods; two types of chicken dishes, and other meat dishes, choice of rice dishes and the needs of vegetarians were also met. All of that came with plantain and coleslaw!!The food was excellent and we all had a wonderful time. This was the first visit for some members of my party and we will certainly be making another visit in the near future.

I had the jerk chicken and it was delicious. I will definitely come back for more and to try all the other food choice. This is their new venue on Chapel Street and I think the interior needs a little make-over. The furniture is your classic over varnished so therefore a bit sticky pub type furniture. I don't think it fits the vibe they are trying to create. Some sorter furnishings, nice lighting, rugs, I don't know, but something to give it a bit of atmosphere and to make it more comfortable. Hopefully over time they will settle into their new premises. Lovely food and lovely staff and great prices.

Party of 4 to celebrate a friends birthday. We had different starters. The prawns were to die for. The ribs were very sparse meat wise. For mains, two of us had the goat curry, one had the jerk chicken and one had the saltfish, we had a variety of rice sides. All of these were very plentiful and really delicious. All the staff were extremely friendly and they had added extra touches for the birthday (banner on wall and sparkler on a cake) Our only complaint would be the long wait we had for our food. Overall delicious plentiful and really good value for money. Will be back

I love Italian food, but was delighted to find something that was not an Italian outlet on a recent trip to Luton. While Ruby's is not set up to offer a wide range to the travelling vegetarian, when I explained my dietary preference I was offered their ackee and saltfish . . . without saltfish. It was delicious; it was a more than ample serving. It came with some yummy creamy coleslaw, and a portion of plantain, itself worth going to Luton for. Add to that some locally produced and delicious sorrel cordial, and what a splendid way for me to revive the inner man before my journey back to Oldham.

The only African, Caribbean and European fusion restaurant in the known London M25 area has arrived! It offers a chance to eat Pounded Yam with Jerk Chicken or Jollof Rice with Curry Goat, or Egusi with Rice N Peas. Any kind of mix of cuisine that is known to the African Caribbean Diaspora. With a cultural flair and friendly staff, Ruby's affords a chilled atmosphere and cool vibe in a stylish location.
