Ruby Tandoori in St Albans

Anyone with celiac disease would know the drill of asking 101 questions to avoid gluten crumbs and contamination before making an order. This takes trust and caution. Despite being assured that my chicken korma shared with my mum was gluten free and the the kitchen would be made aware, I returned home with awful abdominal pain which only feels like gluten poisoning every celiac dreads. Celiac disease is an auto-immune condition, not an intolerance or allergy. An apology doesn’t make up for the severe pain I’m in and days of recovery to come. What’s the point of the gluten free symbol on the menu? Whilst this is a convenient place for family get togethers in the village, I unfortunately have to recommend fellow celiacs to avoid.

Exquisite food and perfect service as always 10/10 the spice on the biriani and the kick of the jalfrezie was jus amazing

LOVELY! As an Indian myself I have struggled to find a restaurant that really have authentic Indian/Bangladeshi dishes and matched the flavours of my country but this restaurant really did that. The waiters were very polite and greeted me and my family really well. They told me about their struggles and everything they went through and fought to keep that restaurant open. Sadly the previous owner had suddenly passed away and as I have been going there for a couple of years now I knew how amazing the man was. Now their young and brave children are fighting to keep the restaurant running which is absolutely amazing and I hope them the best and success. If you are ever near colney then definitely hit the place up and have a word with the current owner if they’re around or workers and listen to their back story. This is definitely my go to from now on.

Absolutely gorgeous our waiter had the best hairstyle ever but the food was very very tasty,all 4 of us felt the same very relaxed food scrummy,give it a try if don’t like you don’t go back simples!

Poor quality food, stained napkins and then to top it off found a black hair in the curry (neither of us has black hair!)

I’ve been to many different Indian restaurants and being Indian myself, I know what good and high quality Indian food is and this restaurant is definitely it. Food is something close to my heart and his place made me and my family feel like I was back home in India. The service was also great and I had a nice conversation with other the waiters in the restaurant. They’re very funny and lovely. The chefs also did a great job and I highly recommend this place to anyone. It’s a small restaurant and not very known but to those that do know it are regular customers. I know this because I’ve seen many of them come back to whenever I visit. Definitely give it a go I would say. A thumbs up from me:)

I phoned the restaurant the person who answered my phone was rude and does not speak English. I don’t recommend anyone coming to the restaurant.

Food usually good, but the last time we went in had king prawn dish. Not sure what I got but it was bits of something and not whole prawns, had dry veg curry and not what I usually have. Son had chicken and not as good as usual, to top it off found long grey hair in the rice

Visited for dinner, first time here, never again! Food cold, service horrendous. Save yourself a journey, go somewhere else!

The food was nice as always but they put a fried rice in the bag instead of mushroom pilau rice like I ordered, and the naan bread was cold which was a bit disappointing.

Visiting the Ruby Tandoori is like being transported back in time to an Indian Restaurant in the 70s/80s, from the flock wallpaper to the sitar music and general layout. And if anyone is as old as me to remember those local ads at the cinema "...bet that cooled his biryani!". Bring back Pearl & Dean.

Bought a take away a few weeks ago. A lamb curry and a chicken curry. The lamb was inedible, microwaved possibly, overcooked and chewy-tasted disgusting. The chicken dish was in an identical sauce to the lamb although they were meant to be two different dishes! Watery flavourless sauce. I have eaten there or had a take away a few times and it's always hit and miss.

Been going to this restaurant for over twenty years, used to live in London colney, now living on the South coast, so dont get there very often, but visiting family at the weekend, and booked a table, the owner is away on holiday, but the temporary staff, did not let him down, excellent food and service as always, worth the four hours on the Motorway !!

Been ordering and dining with this restaurant for over 20 years rang up tonight to order was told quite rudely when i questioned price i was told deal is not available for deliver (always has been for aslong as i can remember) told it says on menu (which i have) it does not it specifies only for Monday's deal is dine in or collection only ordered 2 weeks ago no problem!plus many times before that too! Man on the phone extremely rude aggresive shouting his head off never experienced customer service like that!

Service was a little slow. However the food we had was acceptable. My chicken tikka was a little dry. Be warned the portions are large meal for 3 £62 including drinks it's was fine but have had better Indians in the area

Unfortunately staff weren't friendly and we didn't feel that we were made welcome. Such a shame as very local t us but as our first time eating in there wasn't a warm or comfortable feeling. We could see other customers who appeared to be regulars were treated in a different, much friendlier way. Portions sizes were good but some dishes were bland in taste. Sadly wouldn't feel like eating in or getting a takeaway from here again.

We visited at the weekend for our first time, and wasn't disappointed we were made to feel welcome. Food was excellent, big portion sizes and extremely tasty.

Been using this take away for a good few years now. Can honestly say, 95% good experience. Had a few blips along the way but over all, good food, good price, good service

Never seen so much oil in a curry before, I won't be going back. The Ceylon and Madras tasted almost the same, no exaggeration but about a third of the curry was oil.. awful

The Ruby has a new menu which has improved an already excellent restaurant for sit down or take always. My husband and I enjoyed a beautifully cooked but over generous take away. We couldn't finish it all! Extremely friendly and helpful staff who will advise you when asked. Ali is especially helpful.

We've used the Ruby for a number of take-aways now and each time the food has been fresh, hot and very tasty. We're going to eat there soon with friends and are looking forward to it.

Restaurant added 10 minutes to my delivery time but food was delivered just within the hour. Delivery driver was very pleasant. The flavours were great, we enjoyed all the dishes. Great value for money with the discount too! Really pleased with this find. Would definitely order from this restaurant again.

Not for me. very artificial tasting. Popadoms were very salty, sauce bland, onion bhajis were hard and tasteless, curry over sweet,rice was overlooked, nana bread was horrible. I'm sorry but most of it went in the bin. I won't be back.

Visited for the first time with friends. The food and service was excellent. This is a small restaurant but the quality of food is superb. Very generous portions. Will definitely be back again!

Onion salad was missing, mint sauce was not very good but the rest of the food was excellent.

Food - fabulous as always, really enjoyed it! Last time requested the yogurt mint sauce as an extra and it was no problem, they gave me naan bread too! But this time (after paying £27.00 with the app as I had no cash) gave me the yogurt sauce and waited at the door while I had to scurry to find an extra £1.50 to give them, luckily I had it! Overall was a great meal though and arrived earlier than expected.

Good quality as usual, and even though on this occasion a dish was missed from the order, it was brought as an addition delivery within 10 mins. Good work!

Great curry.... Really nice quality ingredients, tasted great and delivery came earlier that stated. Whats more they gave me free yogurt sauce and a naan bread for good measure. Obviously service is important to them as well as a great meal.

Was disappointed you couldn't order soft drinks online from the restaurant

Al mirar en línea (punto más de la gente de referencia), no puede encontrar una imagen de pollo shashlik donde el uso para cocinar pollo Tandorri restaurante este plato. Sí es cocinada en un tandoor, pero esta noche y sirve comidas calientes siento la carne que me dieron era la izquierda sobre pollo tandoori que pueden vender ese día o tirado la mañana. Sugiero que como las verduras no era solo a la parrilla, pero más restos carbonizados de comestible. Ya que se publicar mis fotos YO EN LÍNEA van a dejar a usted para decidir. Todas las demás visitas han sido bien comparado con lo que hay disponible localmente y este lugar se había convertido en mi principal estancia para comida honesta. Esta noche me siento beneficio fuimos antes de decoro y me sirve de lo peor.

Brought food to hotel room. Did not provide plastic forks to actually Eat the food and said it was not a part of the service. Managed to get some from forks from hotel staff. Food tasted terrible to make a bad service worse.

I haven't ordered from them for along time .The restaurant has been in my village for years and I have used them for years .Now ordered from them after about a years break .Delivery was fast ,the staff were polite and smart but ................I'm afraid the chicken tikka masala was watery and bland in taste ,if I wasn't so hungry I would have left it .Very dissapointed at £16 and frankly it's not as I remembered .Tikka masala is supposed to be rich and creamy ,this wasn't :-(((

All good less some basics so the delivered food matches what is ordered. Fries were delivered instead of Chicken nuggets, may seem trivial but quite annoying if the recipient doesn't get what was asked for. I will try them again to see if this was a one-off mistake as the food tasted good.

Delivered much earlier than expected, and on a Saturday evening too! Food very good as usual, excellent all round.

Decent Rezalla- could have done with more chillis rather than green peppers, but the flavour was OK.

A menudo es nuestra cena la noche del viernes o vamos de "barato martes" donde 5 campos por sólo £10, que tiene una buena relación calidad-precio absolutamente fabuloso! La comida es deliciosa y te dan un montón de cosas. El personal es amable y profesional y que bien merece una visita!

Si estás en la zona o un local es el mejor indio en Londres Colney. Fantástica comida y enormes raciones. Satisface a todos los gustos, gran selección y tienen muy buenas ofertas a través de la semana. Puede que no parece mucho desde el exterior, pero sin duda merece la pena ir. Hemos estado 3 veces y volvería siempre y se lo recomendaría a cualquiera.

Great food and quick delivery times, no complaints

Honestly the worst curry i've had in my life. Curry - Bland and the contained too much oil, so much that curry separated into two layers of equal size. Onion Bhajis and Naan bread undercooked. Rice - Overcooked and basically mush. I've eaten at hundreds of Indian Takeaways and never had a meal as bad as this. I recommend people stay away.
