Roymai Thai Restaurant in Central Bedfordshire

My first time in a Thai restaurant in Dunstable and they were very nice and professional. Menu was simple and clear what they served, and what I ordered came in a very nice presentation and tasty 🤤. I would say the place would need some love, there were flickering lights, some not even working. If they would deal with these small details they will be a 5 star review. I will come back or have a take away

A pleasant experience from beginning to end. A comfortable setting for dining out with great food and service. The stir-fry ginger chicken was flavourful and filling along with the jasmine rice. The portions were perfect. Others at our table had the pork collar which looked tender and juicy. Their egg fried rice looked equally delicious as did the other accompaniments. We had nothing left to take home, as it was all so good! Some in our party had dessert; the ferrero rocher-topped chocolate ice cream was reportedly as good as it looked. Definitely a great place for a special dinner and conversation.

Delicious food. Very quiet nice so we created our own atmosphere. Friendly staff. Will go again.

Honestly i am fussy person when it comes to food quality and hygiene but this Thai restaurant is one of the best ! Real food, rich in thai flavours, good portions, prices and service. Always in my mind when I am in Dunstable.

Booked a table here before going to theatre. Food was so good Service was excellent mainly because we were the only customers as it was 5.30 pm. Really enjoyed th meal. Menu is very good too lots of choice. Would go again. Kerb appeal is not great?

Update: Can cater for gluten free too!! Always accommodating and so pleasant/polite! Very nice atmosphere and pleasant staff member! (This place used to be Sizzler) Great food. First time visit and went for the Set B menu. (Two set menus in total) Good value and variety. We'll be coming back and may venture to trying various dishes not within the set! :-)

Omg the best Thai restaurant. The food is so good. I love the heat and they do it perfect. The service is amazing. They recognise me every time I go in. It's a lovely place to dine in. The chicken thai noodles is to die for. Mouth watering. And best thing it's halal.

If you like Thai food, there are two decent Thai restaurants in Dunstable, this is one of them. They both have different styles of dishes so you need to visit both. Meals are well portioned, very tasty and served piping hot. Decent variety of dishes served with different meats or as vegetarian dishes. If you like it spicy, ask for it ‘Thai spicy ’ and you won’t be disappointed! We visit that often, they know what meals we will order without us telling them 😂 My favourites are garlic beef and chargrilled sizzling chicken, Thai spicy of course!

Great green and red curry. Ordered first time from here and specified that I would like it typical Thai spicy and they delivered as expected... lovely!

Four of us had the set meal (A). The starters and main courses were good with fair sized portions, apart from the rice. We could have done with double the amount of rice as it wasn’t really enough for 4 people. Everything was tasty but the Pad Thai had a little too much fish sauce in it and the rice noodles were thin, not the wide flat noodles that are usually used for Pad Thai. This made it a bit mushy but it was edible. Would go again as the price was reasonable.

nothing to fault, the food and service was fantastic, honestly could not have been better. went with a party of 8 family members and had a great evening - at a very affordable price - simply the best thia food in Dunstable by country mile.

The mixed platter to start was disappointing. It was greasy and the two dips were both bland. We weren't expecting much on the main course after this but were very pleasantly surprised. The massaman curry and fresh chilli beef were both lovely and very well flavoured. We asked for the beef to be made extra spicy and this was very well done. Much better than you typically get from a Thai restaurant at around Madras level. The pineapple rice with king prawns was also a nice dish. The service was very friendly and efficient giving a feeling of being welcome. Overall a good experience worth 5 stars despite the starter.

Just had the best meal in Roymai as usual. The starter, main meal and dessert were all wonderful. The staff are lovely and couldn't be more helpful. Definitely one of the best restaurants in Dunstable. Would definitely recommend.

We aren’t usually in this area but decided to visit Roymai whilst passing Dunstable. We certainly weren’t disappointed as it lived up to all the other 5 star reviews. The service was friendly and fast and the food delicious. We had two different duck curries with some jasmine and coconut rice. Superb. A shame we are rarely in the vicinity as otherwise we would be visiting regularly.

I have come so many times, they recognise my voice when ordering! The Prawn Pad Thai and Green Thai curry are definitely a favourite, always tasting absolutely beautiful and the service 100% - what I would expect but sadly rarely find. Being in the catering industry myself, I have high standards and are always left happy! Thank you for always putting a smile on my face after a long day at work and see you soon for my next visit!

Collected an order and was given boiled chicken in soup water and pasta when it was supposed to be noodles, lots of 5 star reviews and I’m thinking this is for eating in and not takeaway

Our 1st experience, wow it was expensive Went for set meal for 2 at £25 I think, turned out we were charged this amount twice, is this correct, it's not how we read it Maybe I'll get a reply on here

This has become our favourite local Thai restaurant. The food is yum, the service is great. Would be great if they had vegetarian green curry and other curries on the menu but other than that no complaints!

Lovely tasting food, nice atmosphere, decor and very helpful and friendly staff. Food is really fairly priced, big menu. Only down side is they only sell bottles beers.

Best Thai in Town.....well there's only two Thai Restaurant in Dunstable but it's definitely far better than Lumpini Restaurant, even my parents who don't usually eat out often (cos they are retired chef) likes eating from there, also they are very consistent and not many Thai places does the Tom Kha Gai soup which they are BANGING!!!

Best Thai place in Beds. Make sure you call the phone number they have on their website. The food is super fresh, you can see it is preservative free and made out of fresh ingredients. And the staff is lovely. Don't fall for any other local Thai who sell greasy, processed food. Roymai is the best choice you have locally.

pBeen here quite a few times now. Very clean premises and can confirm it is covid secure. The Thai ladies are very charming. The service is second to none. You have to try the spare ribs and the satay chicken they are so good along with the garlic beef and 3 taste sauce crispy chicken. Have ordered a takeaway for NYE and cannot wait.

From the moment you enter this restaurant team give you a pleasant feeling. Very hospitable crew, it is a friendly place to pass time with friends and colleagues or with your date. heavenly meals, creative chef de cuisine, reasonable pay and generous service. Warmly recommended.

It's a shame the outside of the restaurant isnt the best because if it hadn't been recommended to us we probably wouldn't have gone in. So pleased we did. Not the cheapest - set menu for 2, 2 beers, 2 small wines just under £70. So worth it though, food was absolutely delicious, plenty of it and and the lovely staff couldnt have been more welcoming and friendly. Do book though, it was fairly quiet when we arrived at 7, but was full by 8.

Eaten here several times the past few weeks, each time has been great. Portion size is not huge but plenty to fill you up.Having had several dishes, our favourites are the black pepper beef & the chilli chicken - request them 'Thai spicy' for extra kick! Prawn toast & chicken satay were good for starters but being greedy I prefer two mains & to skip the starters.Restaurant is clean, staff are always polite & the bill is not excessive.

There are certain foods that we prefer to eat in restaurant to enjoy the atmosphere as well as the food....thai is one of these. We've missed eating out and decided to have roymai thai takeaway.The food was to the always high standard, the phone order was taken quickly and in a friendly way, having eaten in restaurant several times I did not expect to be recognised but was. The food was excellent, so much so we had a takeaway two weeks running.It is good to see local restaurants, especially in these strange times, providing a good service and maintaining restaurant quality.

Lovely little restaurant with comfy and spacoius seating. Beautiful decorative wood carvings on the wall.First time here and we'll definitely go back.The food was amazing - average size portions. We had mixed platter (won ton, prawn toast, spring rolls and chicken satay) starter. Beef massaman curry, ginger pork and (my favourite) chicken phad thai. All dishes came as described and faultless!!Only slight disappointment was the slow service. Short staffed perhaps. It was Friday night, Valentine's and restaurant was full by 8pm. Our order was taken 20mins after arriving. We were served our starters 25mins later and we got our mains about 20mins after that.We had one very friendly waitress who seemed to serve most tables bless her and kept apologising about the wait. The other waitress seemed lost, possibly new.Yummy food and we weren't in any rush so was worth the wait

Had family come down to visit, decided on trying this restaurant as a takeaway due to our regular being completely full and too busy, read the reviews and was just completely mislead. Food was just shocking. I’ve eaten better beans on toast made by my 2 year old. £100 lighter and all the food now in the bin, will not be returning or using this restaurant again, they will also not answer or return your calls. Don’t let the 5* reviews fool you, if you want a good Thai restaurant, go to Lumpini.

Had a lovely evening in this Thai, didn’t know what to expect but was pleasantly pleased with our first experience. It’s very cute inside and staff are very friendly. I ordered a beef massaman and my partner ordered a chicken massaman and we loved them both. We also ordered a pad Thai, jasmine rice and chicken satay skewers, which were all lovely. Would definitely come back!

I have eaten here with my partner many times and we had take away this Wednesday, it was amazing fresh tasty food as always, with good quality containers, some double wrapped to keep the food from leaking out.The food here always tastes fresh and clean. My partner is a vegan and it’s great to go somewhere where the staff understand the diet properly, she has plenty of options to choose from and usually goes for a green curry with tofu and cashew nuts (they prepare this specially to ensure that it is completely vegan).I am a pescatarian and as well as all of the choices my partner has I have many different fish and seafood options to choose from as well. The best part about eating here for me is the freshness of the seafood. I never feel like I’m getting old or stale fish as you often do in other Thai restaurants.It’s also always nice to come here as the staff are very friendly and recognise us even on the phone which makes us feel extra welcome. It’s a shame to see that they are usually quiet when we visit as this is our number one favourite restaurant in the area so I decided to add this review in the hope that other people will try it out for themselves and that this restaurant will stay open for many years to come!

Had dinner here this evening with some friends. For a restaurant, it’s very small but it’s nice and cosy. The staff were very attentive, checking if we needed more drinks and taking our orders. The starters and mains were well presented and tasted great. They serve great Thai beer here too by the bottle. Food was delicious, prompt and filling. They’ve also got a nice bar at the far end which they stock a large selection of wine and spirits. Definitely worth a trip

This place is clearly one of the best place in the region. Anytime I go there I am remarkably glad. They hold their very high level service and the topmost level of meals they offer. You can never go wrong with this restaurant. Highly recommended.

It's one if the best Thai restaurants I have ever eaten in. The flavours are authentic. The service is amazing. Everything we ordered every time we were there has been amazing and consistent. Defo recommend it

Great food, great atmosphere... A really nice meal

As a thai it s ok food is freshly cooked but lacks flavour and imagination.

My first dining experience at Roymai with post dining comments was May 2018 and I was pretty critical of the food, I subsequently went back there with a friend April 2019 and had a very pleasant meal, this was on a Thursday evening around 20:00 and the restaurant was again empty with the exception of 4 people on a table, the take-out however generated a bit more business. I ordered the same Thai food as I did in my May 2018 visit (refer to comments), the Tom Yom Goong was certainly an improvement than before and my Thai Curry was good, nothing special and again still not spicy enough for me but good and again the portions really need to be larger, I really am not a fan of large meals as I watch my diet carefully and go to the gym about x 5 sessions/wk but I still find the portions simply too small. There is certainly room for additional improvement at Roymai but at least this restaurant is still open for business and is located in an area of Dunstable that really needed a decent eat-in restaurant. I will be visiting Roymai again sometime during Oct 2019 and look forward to some tasty "spicy" and authentic Thai food.
