Royal Thai in Aberdeen City

Ordered via Deliveroo - Red curry wasn't very spicy but flavour was okay, though very watery. Singapore Vermicelli (by name only) was very dissapointing if it weren't for the barely cooked egg adding flavour it would be the blandest vermicelli I've ever tasted, literally no flavour or spice, was as if someone had tossed it in turmeric for colour and then thrown it in the tray. BBQ ribs aren't really BBQ just a ginger and soy mix and barely a trickle of it, but the ribs themselves were quite tasty and a very respectable portion size. Sesame coconut prawns were very dissapointing, simply not enough sauce, also feel it would have been better if the prawns were seperate instead of combined into an almost pancake like shape. Not the best, would possibly try again and hope for better but wouldn't be top of the list of potentials.

Had the beef Panang curry with coconut rice. The service was good, as was the atmosphere, but..... The curry sauce had a good flavour, but the beef used appears to be a cheap cut. It was soft, stringy and chewy.

The Royal Thai is now closed from 3rd January until 12th February 2024 for refurbishment, reopening on Tuesday 13th February 2024.

Brilliantly tasty food and great service

The papaya salad was very sour. Ordered something spicy but still not spicy and served with 2 sticks of grilled pork. Overall, the other food was delicious. I like foreign flavors. The staff are good and smiling. The shop is a little dark, but it's okay. There are delicious cocktails, Thai beer, and a variety of food menus.

Authentic thai resteraunt, a little off union street but worth sezrching for, very personable service, nice place and eating experience.

Beautiful takeaway tonight, platter with ribs and satay before beef with basil and chilli and a Red Thai prawn curry. Both dishes were beautifully cooked, succulent prawns and the most gorgeous sauce with the beef, fresh and no gloopiness that we’ve all experienced at other establishments. All topped off with rice and noodles. Just fantastic quality. Thanks Royal Thai!

Very tasty food. The waiter was very attentive, perhaps a little too attentive. He always stood 5m away and came as soon as the plate was empty. He seemed a bit rushed, even though we were the only guests. But basically very friendly. The ambience is good, but a bit too dark. Brighter would seem friendlier.

Lovely, warm welcome from staff. Great choice of meals on menu - we had a vegan and a coeliac in our family group and there was something for everyone.

A cosistantly good place to have a Thai meal. The service offered by the young staff was very good and the meals were nicely served. The food is always very good. the Tempura king prawn starter was exceptional.

Easily one of the best Thai restaurants in Aberdeen. Food is flavourful and authentic. I would highly recommend you try Som Tum (Papaya Salad) with grilled pork skewers and classic Pad Thai.

It was old-fashioned and vague/pale, letterly. The food was not bad ad all but also not splendid. Not spicy. Not the best Thai I ever had. And a little dull facility

Great authentic Thai restaurant! It wasn't too busy and they seated everyone away from each other so we had a nice dinner without interruption. The service was great and punctual. We had a mix of chicken and seafood dishes to share and everything had great flavor, even the egg noodles and rice.

Popped in looking for a table at 17.00 and the place was empty , we were served by a young waiter on his first outing . Our food arrived quickly and pipping hot and tasted delicious , always worth a visit , never disappoints

We knew this restaurant from the late 90s when we lived in Aberdeen. We went back wondering how it had evolved. The decoration may have changed but this is still a great place for dinner. We were made welcome from the moment we entered, the staff is nice and helpful, M. Wong eager to keep his clients happy. The food reminded us what we had in Thailand before. We will be back.

We visited this evening as a family and were not disappointed. The whole experience was fantastic, attentive staff, relaxed atmosphere and delicious food. We will be back.

I’d forgotten how good this restaurant was until a recent visit. It was probably the first Thai restaurant in aberdeen and the menu is as good today as it was 20 years ago. A lot of restaurants are loosing out on business due to the new shopping malls with multiple restaurant chains. Don’t let this independent escape its well worth a visit and reasonably priced too.

One of the best Asian dinning place in Scotland! Ordered pork skewers, chicken pad Thai, Paneng beef curry with coconut rice and a Tom Yum soup for two people. Overall the food was nice and authentically Thai although the beef was slightly overdone. Highly recommended and worth trying!

Always good service and great food here. So good to get some fresh and different flavours from a friendly restaurant. Meal was reasonably priced also and will be back soon

We were only visiting the city but this restaurant seems to have a lot of return customers as they were all on first name terms! We would be too if we lived closer! Enjoyed banquet meal for 3 people. They happily made some changes to the menu as 1 vegetarian with us. The food was fabulous - especially liked the tempura vegetables and the sesame prawns and cream sauce. The staff were extremely friendly and made us feel very welcome.

Great service lovely food worth the money

What a lot has changed since my last review 😒 but the standard of food certainly hasn’t - we had 3 family take aways last night then a family face time, we all loved it - thank you to Simon and his team. 🌈

My duck curry was some of the best I have ever had - and I eat Thai food frequently. My husband liked his prawns in garlic sauce. The service was very friendly. The restaurant is just off Union St near the harbor.

The staff was very attentive and the restaurant is very beautiful as well. The atmosphere inside might be a bit dark fitting with the outside during the evening but not in a negative way. The variety of choice is quite big and the food is also good. What was, however, lacking for me was that there were no signs in the card, that anyhow mention if a dish is very hot, medium or only mildy so. Ended up wish a tasty but way to spicy dish for my reflux!

It’s been awhile so always the risk places have changed. Glad to say not the case here. Reasonably priced and this night an excellent five course set menu choice. Staff friendly and attentive. Highly recommended.

I've visited the Royal Thai for close on 25 years and it is / was one of my very favourite restaurants in Aberdeen. It pains me to write a bad review, but someone needs a wake up call, or this restaurant will end up closing.Was delayed into Aberdeen by a late train, but we thought 13:20 wasn't too late to arrive for a lunch. It was our only purpose for coming to town. The girl that should have welcomed us was way to quick to point out that the kitchen was closing! She clearly didn't want us to come in for lunch despite the opening hours indicating 14:30 closure. She appeared happy to see us leave. We went to Union Street to a competitor and had a nice lunch.

I really enjoyed my experience here. Fast and friendly service. We didn't have a reservation yet they were very accommodating. We ordered a whole lot of starters and one main to share. It was yum! Pad thai was good!! I love a nice pad thai!But the main thing was locals obviously frequent there and the staff knew them well and were friendly with everyone.

Uno dei pochi ristoranti ad Aberdeen che sta aperto fino alle 23, davvero una salvezza. Ambiente elegante, con luci soffuse, nessuna difficoltà a mettere al tavolo 16 persone. Menù molto vasto, piatto con agnello anatra manzo pollo, zuppe, noodles, servizio preciso e puntuale. Prezzi nella media rispetto ad altri della zona. Davvero consigliato.

Excelente comida y servicio increíble, rápido. Ni siquiera tuve que esperar 10 minutos cuando esperaban los platos principales y el personal era encantador. La comida para llevar era igual de buena y tampoco parecía que se pusiera menos esfuerzo o servicio. Volveremos una y otra vez. Galletas de gambas gratis durante la corta espera fueron una ventaja añadida. Gracias al personal encantador que nos hizo sentir muy bienvenidos.

Había pasado mucho tiempo desde la última vez que disfrutamos la comida y no nos decepcionó. Entrantes fabulosos, excelentes platos principales e incluso lograron compartir un desierto. Yum! ! !

Reservamos aquí para una comida de aniversario. La comida era sabrosa, fresca y no mucho tiempo para esperar entre platos. El servicio fue excelente y el camarero se mostró muy educado, paciente y respetuoso. Tuvimos una hermosa cena encantadora y fue agradable y tranquila, que es de mi agrado. Un precio muy razonable también así que sin duda volveremos!

This is a great Thai restaurant. Staff attentive and friendly, great service and Thai food too, what more do you need for a great night out. Seriously nice Thai food, I loved my Tom Yum soup, just perfect.

¡Visité aquí la semana pasada con mi esposo y amigo! Somos partidarios de un banquete cuando comemos en restaurantes chinos y estamos encantados de ver que hubo uno tailandés aquí. Gran variedad de comida, el personal se adaptaba a cualquier cambio y la relación calidad-precio era excelente. Los cursos llegaron bastante rápido pero aun así pudimos terminar todos los cursos.

Should have heeded the previous reviews & went elsewhere for dinner. Couldn’t fault the food, when it eventually came out, but the service was abysmal from start to finish. Had to wait far too long between courses & no apologies given. I find the automatic 10% gratuity added on quite insulting too as the service on this occasion certainly didn’t warrant it. Won’t be back unfortunately.

Went their tonight using an Itison voucher, very disappointed. Main meal was fine but only two deserts available from menu. Took Irish Coffee, on menu, and they tried to charge us for this! Well overpriced Wine and he tried charging £3 more than price list! Won' be back!!

Very good meal, but starters initially delivered at the table were completely wrong, possibly mixed with another table. Surprising, because the restaurant was almost empty at this cold and windy day.

Came here as I got a cheap itison voucher and I hadn’t been in years but remembered it being nice. Food was okay, lots of choice, a pretty standard affair. I didn’t really like the mango scallop starter as it wasn’t what I expected and the mango wasn’t ripe - wish I had gone for the monk fish skewers!! Lamb and duck main dishes were fine, good portion sizes. Service was also good. It was really quiet for a Saturday when we came and although the food was alright, I don’t think I would hurry back.
