Royal Tandoori in Tandridge

This is hands down the best place I’ve had tandoori chicken. Reminds me of my childhood trips to East London where we would pick up some great tandoori food. The chicken was juicy with authentic flavours. Perfect with rotis. In addition the aubergine side dish and the salmon biryani are out of this world!As a Sri Lankan who eats a lot of homemade curries I have to say this place is the best. Great feast tonight for a birthday celebration!

I always order from here and usually very pleased however this time I am surprised and disappointed as to how bland the bombay potatoes and vegetables are.

We have been visiting Royal Tandoori for the best part of a year now and initially was a very exceptional dining experience, but over time we have noticed a HUGE drop in quality, quantity and service. The last few take-away meals delivered from this restaurant have been cold, undercooked and bland. The rice was hard, the sauce was watery and tasteless, the chicken was rubbery and occasionally has bones in it! I simply don’t understand how something so good can go so bad so quickly. This is the last time I will be visiting Royal Tandoori.Would not recommend!

Tier 4 but your food really does cheer us up. I have to say that the chicken pieces we get in the curries are to die for. They are so tender and soft they break away. The flavour in my passanda was so nice that I came back and ordered some extra naan breads to finish the curry off. Lucky I don’t live far and walks distance away. Can’t wait for restaurants to open so me and my partner can enjoy the food again without having to do the dishes.

We had our first takeaway from here as our usual Indian wasn’t up to par recently. I must say we have stumbled across an amazing place. One of the dishes we had was the korma which was so so perfect, the best I’ve had in ages. My son had a dupieza which he loved and actually finished. He usually eats just the chicken and sauce but this time ate all the veggies which came with it. They always kept us informed with delivery times as expected they were extremely busy. Will be back soon for our meal on Xmas eve!

5 of us ordered takeaway from here, delivery was quick and I now know why! Meat was tough in all our different curry’s like it had been heated up they had that horrible taste when chicken is over cooked from microwave.a shame as flavour of sauce ok. The tikka however was tasteless. Naan bread was cooked fresh and was ok but we ended up leaving the meals as so chewy and disgusting. Waste of £55. Not sure if they do a buffet lunchtime but seemed good was left over if so.

When my food arrived, madras naan and onion baja and potatoes....then had to wait for my rice and sons main course to arrive...had eaten my naan bread by the time it turned up....won't be going back again and very expensive for the food.

Decided to give the local a try with a few basic bits like Kheema naan, lamb samosas, mix grill, garlic mushrooms and the chicken chaat. What a mistake this really was, I seriously didn’t think it was possible to spend £38 for what could be the worst Indian takeaway in England, the mix grill was seriously over cooked, over coloured with red food dye and dry with without any flavour. The kheema naan (see pic) was hardly anything in there and what little was in there I would question if it was even fresh mince lamb or saw dust. Next into the garlic mushrooms - was in total about 4 medium sized button mushrooms sliced thinly in a so called oil/ghee masala full of turmeric.I am not entirely sure who repeatedly eats here, but I would never eat here ever again, recommend to anyone, this place is an abomination. It really isn’t difficult to cook Indian food!

We ordered 4 curries for delivery, but only received 3 & no mint sauce so called the restaurant. They sent the extra curry 30 minutes later but it was luke warm (the mint sauce still didn't arrive). All the dishes we got were ok, but disappointing overall.

Ordered a takeaway for the family at the weekend. Really enjoyed the food. I had chicken biryani which was delicious. Highly recommend the food and service as best in the area.

Delivery was very late. (40 mins)Food was warm and almost cold by the time it got on the plates.Some items were wrong.Some dishes were padded out with vegetables.One vegetable dish didn’t have any large vegetables. No potatoes or cauliflower, just sweet corn, bean and source.We won’t be going back there again.

It’s Saturday Evening and curry time. We had a takeaway from here tonight and as usual it was really tasty.

Very lucky to have this little gem of a restaurant in our village.Never eaten in before, only had take away, but I’m so glad we did. Restaurant is immaculate, well distanced in the current climate and the food is delicious,The staff are wonderful, friendly and welcoming.Had a great meal.

I had takeaway and my main was lacking in flavour and also the chicken had a few bones which was a turnoff. The next day I'm afraid to say I suffered very bad flatulence.

We’ve been fortunate enough to have found seats the last two weeks at this restaurant due to the eat out scheme as it gets quite busy. But the food and service are always exceptional. Nothing is too much for the staff and I’ve been trying some of their new dishes. I must say the Railway Lamb has been such a hit the two tables surrounding me were also eating it. Honestly, I can’t recommend this dish anymore. It’s a must try. Track and trace is carried out smoothly, hand sanitiser stations scattered all over the restaurant. Sadly they’ve had to reduce their seating capacity to provide social distancing between tables. Proud to have this as my local Indian. Well done Royal.

Wanted to support my local curry house during the current situation so made a reservation for a family meal making use of the eat out to help out scheme. I have been here on a few occasions in the past but always felt disappointed with the service which has been inattentive and bordering on rude. On this occasion we had a nice meal and I can’t fault the quality of the food. However on receipt of the bill which had been hastily written out in ineligible type, I was surprised at the relatively high total considering there was supposed to be an eat out discount. When queried with the waiter I was informed deserts and drinks were not part of the deal and it was only a reduction given on food. Despite challenging this, I was told these were the terms of the scheme and as I did not have the full details to hand I felt I had no option but to pay. I was further surprised when in the current situation,I was asked to pay in cash, which makes me feel there is an air of dishonesty with this establishment.

Very friendly staff had a lovely Indian meal I was enjoying a lovely pint over the road at the Whyteleafe Tavern and they suggested the Indian restaurant was very good quality so I gave it a go and I was very impressed I have been back since Many thanks

We booked a table as we saw Royal Tandoori participating in the scheme. We were greeted by a full restaurant which was lovely to see. Hand gel stations everywhere and track and trace implemented. I tried a dish from their new menu called the railway lamb which was so so good. I highly recommend this dish. Staff were so helpful in making sure we were all ok. They were wearing PPE too which isn’t necessary but welcomed I suppose. Will be back every week whilst this offer is on for sure.

This pandemic has really made us think of how much my family and I have missed eating out. Especially at the royal tandoori. We went last night for a dinner with family and the food was still lovely. I really enjoyed the chicken tikka dansak and keema bread. Staff are always very welcoming and know how to make us laugh. You guys are a blessing honestly.

After reading the reviews on here we thought we would try it so did a good order tonight delivery was on time which was a good start .bit expensive but thought well if the foods good it’s worth it . Very very disappointed food was horrible . Onion Bhaji was as if they had been warmed up from lunch time dry and warm , the whole meal was over priced and not nice . Would definitely not recommend and will not use again .

The staff were incredibly friendly. All 4 of us eating had a different dish and everyone of them was cooked to perfection with subtle flavour and spice. Got to be the best curry restuarant in the area.

Attended for the banquet night with my husband but have had many takeaways from here. Banquet night on a wednesday is excellent value and really tasty would definitely recommend. Have tried many curry takeaways from around the area and this is by far the best, more pricey than other takeaways maybe, but definitely worth it. Would definitely recommend!

Went to Royal Tandoori last night for my sons birthday. As usual the food was great. Service very good. A really nice evening with family,

I went here with my friend as we wanted to go somewhere different. We had some starters and Mains and i had a dessert as well. For Starter I have Salt and Pepper chicken which was nice, i then had a Korma with Rice and Garlic naan Bread and you got so much food that I couldn't finish it all. For dessert I had chocolate samosas which was pastry with Nutella inside which was warm! This was really good as well!I would recommend

We tried this Indian out as we always go past and seems to be busy every time. We arrived and the place was full. We would recommend booking in advance. Food was very good, I enjoyed the grilled king prawns and my husband loved his tikka masala. The desserts are to die for, especially their walnut one and chocolate samosa. Will definitely be making this our new favourite. Service was brilliant considering how busy they were. Well oiled machine!!

Just had the worst takeaway curry ever cold nan, chewy chicken & onion bhaji felt like we were given yesterday’s leftovers warmed through

We were recommended this restaurant by family friends and we are thoroughly impressed with their food and service. We enjoyed their quality of meats in their dishes. Far better experience than your usual high street Indian. My husband enjoys their jalfrezi and I enjoyed the seafood moilee. They also have a great variety of wines which compliment the food. Atmosphere in the restaurant was enjoyable & decor was tasteful. Keep it up royal tandoori

The take away portion sizes have shrunk, all dishes ordered were very small. A £10.95 main dish only half filled the container and had 7 of the tiniest pieces of chicken in it. The food tastes good but is poor value for money.

Delicious food as always but takeaway portion size has reduced by a third compared to a couple of years ago.

It's really great choice of Indian food here. I especially like their tandoori dishes. It's awesome & tasty. Every time I been their for lovely valuable and delicious dishes. Hope all are enjoy there like me.

We visited as our son graduated from university this week. As a celebratory meal we enjoyed the royal tandoori with the fresh food they make every time. There have been a few tweaks to their menus regarding the dishes. Some new dishes which we tied and were very satisfied with them. Halloumi fries was exceptional, rezela was out of this world. I really enjoyed that. Our desserts were really tasty and the kids loved that. A great effort from the staff too, always attentive and respectful. Will visit again for sure.

The food here is outstanding, we usually order for a takeaway but love coming in and having the full restaurant experience.

We tried the royal Tandoori after being recommended by all our friends & we were not let down at all. The starters were exceptional especially the king prawn purée which really went well together. For the mains we enjoyed the lamb dishes as this was so tender. Unlike most Indian places the curry was not so greasy. Desserts were very modern and looked amazing. Kulfis were very unique.

Well, I've been coming here for over twenty-five years both to eat in and for take-aways. Most recently for take-aways.

We have eaten at the Royal Tandoori many times. Both as a couple and with our family. It is by no means local to our home, but worth the drive as the best curry restaurant around since our long-standing favourite local restaurant closed. We are greeted warmly, as they remember us from previous visits. Most importantly, every time we visit, we have really good food with efficient service. It is advisable to book, especially on a Friday night when they seem busiest.

Decided to try the Royal Tandoori for a take away a few weeks ago after reading other reviews. It was excellent and a nice change from our usual local restaurant where I just wanted something different. On our second visit my husband’s food (which was the same order as his first visit) wasn’t as good as the first visit although I find it sometimes with restaurants that it can be hit or miss depending on what chef is in duty I suppose. My second meal was the lamb in apricot and onion sauce which I thoroughly enjoyed. The veggie sides are excellent as well although sometimes the portions can be a bit on the stingy side. Overall a great Indian restaurant and glad we tried it and will continue coming here.

We visited the Royal Tandoori in Whyteleafe for a family Birthday. We requested the private seats which were brilliant and cosy. Our drinks arrived promptly along with popadoms, shortly followed by some cocktails. For starters everyone ordered what they wanted, but me and my husband enjoyed the sheek kebab and lamb samosa's. For our mains we had the Lamb Balti and Seafood Moilee. They were both made really well and you can tell they use fresh ingredients. Service along the night towards me and the family were brilliant, couldn't fault them. We then enjoyed some well deserved kulfi and chocolate samosa's. The entire evening was faultless and we all left with a massive smile. Keep up the good work guys and everyone should really try this place out.

Wednesday is banquet night poppadom, starter, main dish, side dish, rice or nan bread £12.95 a great deal as dishes aren't small. Food all really tasty and served piping hot. Friendly staff give good service. Great mid week treat.

We have been here on a number of occasions and will return time and again. The tandoori mixed grill is outstanding and the staff are friendly and attentive. Good food, good ambience good value for money

Our family friends told us about this restaurant being an award winning place which serves fresh food. Being an Indian, it was difficult to be a critic of this restaurant as it was exceptional. Starters were fresh & tender. The mains all tasted different and unique. For mains we enjoyed king prawns and lamb. Service was attentive especially as they were completely full and couldn’t accommodate anymore. We shall be back next time with our friends to enjoy the experience together. Lovely knowledgable staff too. Helped us a lot explaining the dishes.

Our very good friends directed us to this award winning restaurant which they use frequently. Therefore, we made a reservation and off we went. Restaurant was very busy which as you can imagine all love their food. We shared our royal meat platters and vegetable platters which came on a sizzler which smelt divine. For mains we had a selection of lamb which were extremely tender, king prawns which were big and succulent. These were accompanied by the most perfect keema and peshwaree naan breads. To finish off we had their homemade kulfi which was presented really nicely. The chocolate samosa also went down a treat. Service very friendly and professional.

I’ve been to royal tandoori a number of times and it has never failed to impress me. It’s a place to go solo, with friends and family. I can never fault the excellent service, comfortable atmosphere and the mouth-watering food. The thali in particular was amazing as it had a selection of exquisite curries to choose from. It really is the future of tradition, and I would highly recommend!

On the outside, you think it’s just an Indian takeaway. When you open the door, the restaurant is quite big. The wine (Australian rose) was lovely. The food was amazing.. was great to have somewhere that good and just down the road!

Firstly, thank you! We had a wonderful meal. An Indian friend of mine was visiting so we decided to try a new restaurant. Having read previous reviews, we opted for The Royal Tandoori.

We are new to the area and whilst enjoying drinks in the local pub on a monday, after asking many locals where it was best to dine, we were pointed in the direction of The Royal Tandoori. The initial experience was a very warm welcome and they seated us in the middle of a very busy restaurant which was brilliant. Atmosphere was excellent, something you dont expect to find in a fine dining restaurant. Onto our cocktails and starters which were lovely. We shared the halloumi fries and deconstructed achari sag paneer. For mains we also shared the goan sea bass, mutton chops and dal makhani. The strawberry summer sling complimented the meal exceptionally. For desserts we both enjoyed their homemade Ras Malai and Chocolate Samosa. Their choco samosa is very popular as it was flying out the kitchen. Overall we loved it all, and are very proud to call this our local. Will deffo be back. Thanks to the staff who made our 1st visit unforgettable.

We luckily made a reservation the week before and were greeted by the staff on our arrival. Before walking to our tables two parties were attempting to buy JUST THE TABLE for £100 each. Rightly so, the man in charge kindly declined as he had to prioritise the bookings first. The restaurant was completely packed and the atmosphere was great. We ordered our starters which were lovely king prawns and their special Halloumi fries which were very tasty. Our mains we had a variety of chicken and lamb dishes which were fork tender and flavoursome. We enjoyed our cocktails and chocolate samosa’s for dessert, they also gave my friend a free birthday dessert which was really nice of them. Not our first time here and won’t be our last either. Huge respect for the staff as they were very busy all night but yet the young man in charge kept stopping by to make sure we were ok and cracking a few jokes. Brilliant.

From the food, to the service to the knowledge of the waiters were truly exceptional. We are great lovers of seafood and we know that the royal tandoori do sell scallops. However, we asked for it to come as a larger portion with some chefs special sauce. They did indeed cater for us and the food tasted amazing. We even took a picture and loved it. The waiters and waitress looked after me and my family really well and the kids enjoyed their desserts. We live nearer to the Selsdon branch but do try the Whyteleafe branch now and then. Keep up the great work guys.

Four of us ate there on Saturday night. The service was friendly and good. We all agreed that our food was delicious and the best curry we had had for quite some time.

We had a brilliant meal at the Royal Tandoori for my dad’s birthday last night. I hadn’t been to the restaurant for about ten years and have had a lot of curries elsewhere since, but this was one of the best I’ve had in a while. The lamb in my karahi was incredibly tender and the portion sizes very generous. All of the sides and starters, as well as the wine, were just as nice, and it was a lovely touch to provide a free dessert (with added sparkler) to my dad. I look forward to eating at the restaurant again soon.

I took all my friends for a birthday meal on the weekend to my parents favourite restaurant the royal tandoori. The atmosphere and food were amazing, they really looked after my friends & I. Gave us a wonderful birthday cake with the biggest candle which was so good. We all really enjoyed it and big credit to the staff working there as they were really busy but didn’t let any standards slip throughout the evening! Will be back and I’m sure my friends will be back as new customers for them for sure

Royal Tandoori Whyteleafe provided the brilliant food for my daughters 21st birthday. It was catered for 100+ people and the food was amazing. You would have thought food on this scale would come greasy, BUT they were nothing of the sort. Clean and packed in a superior fashion. They even sent a member of their staff to unload and set up all food items in their working attire of waistcoat and tie UNBELIEVABLE. This was really special and sent a classy message to all the guests that the food served at the party was of high quality. They even gave the spoons to serve the food and etc which we loved. Everyone loved the food especially my daughter. We had a wide variety of items like chicken karahi, lamb korma, onion bhajee, rice, naan and many more. I would recommend everyone to dine in or have catering from them as they are brilliant.

Had a lovely meal at the Royal Tandoori last week. Great menu with all the classics. Lovely flavours and presentation, and service was good too.

Excellent fresh fragrant food. Brilliant service from well mannered, trained and dressed staff. Clean restaurant and toilets. Lovely desserts. Correctly measured drinks. Have been dining here for many years as have 3 generations of my family. There's a reason why they are still open years later as same owners run this restaurant and they are good at what they do! Don't change a thing and keep up the good work guys. Love your lamb karahi its juicy and tender!!

The food here has always been amazing. Really look forward to my meals every time as they are always of a high standard. There is a really good execution here from the chef and management. The staff (Areeb and Parvez) really look after me and my family, especially my children. They see them as their own family, they give them little mini tours of their kitchen and other facilities which they love. If anyone is looking for a warm welcoming restaurant with immaculate clean food then this is the place to visit.

I tried the royal for a delivery the first time tonight after visiting previously for a eat in meal.

My partner Nicola and I have been going here for the last six years and for us it is the most friendliest curry house around. Fantastic food and great staff make every evening a pleasure.

Found this restaurant quite recently, and have returned 6 or 7 times since then! The food is excellent, and the service friendly and professional. There is a new spring menu at the moment, which sits alongside the regular menu. Try the new prawn starter and the lamb meatballs - you won’t be disappointed! The best curry house in the area, in my opinion.

Came here on the weekend with my family and really enjoyed the traditional Indian spices used in their dishes. Food was hot and service was excellent. Would definitely return. I had the Lamb Balti which was tender and fragrant.

Have been visiting the Royal Tandoori since I’ve been a child. The same owner has fed me throughout the years which speaks volumes. Went last Saturday with my family for my father’s birthday. Meal went down a treat and had a lovely conversation with the owner’s eldest. Lovely chap, offered the old man a complimentary round of drinks. Genuine efforts from this restaurant, as always to impress. Thoroughly enjoyed my chicken balti.

Visited here yesterday and realised I have never reviewed this restaurant. Have been a customer of theirs for the last 15 years along with their other branch. Food is always good here and service is always very friendly. Good group of guys working here so give them a go people! I recommend their chicken pasanda.

I've been a returning customer for years and I can say that the service is always impeccable. Food is to die for! Recently went in for a birthday dinner - all the lamb dishes that were ordered melted away in our mouths, the chicken was moist and tender, especially the Karahi dishes. The decor is lovely and contemporary, boasts a modern vibe. Staff were always on hand and went the extra mile to accommodate our large group. 100% recommend this restaurant.

Originally I go to their restaurant in Selsdon, but my friends took me to the one in Whyteleafe. Both lived up to the same quality. Service was excellent which was the real standout for me. Would highly recommend this place for people who admire good service along with tasty food from a wide array of items on the menu.

We were introduced to this Royal Tandoori some years ago by a very good friend.

As our daughter recently moved to a property in Whyteleafe we decided to give her local Indian restaurant a try. We all enjoyed our meals and look forward to visiting the restaurant (and our daughter) again soon.

This is the second time I’ve eaten here recently and certainly not the last. It does a good meal. Tandoori prawns were good - bhaji good too and the CTM came up to scratch. Friendly efficient service. Bottled beer only both Cobra and Kingfisher. Enjoy

Since our local favourite curry restaurant closed we just haven't found anywhere to come close to it. We were recommended the Royal Tandoori, it isn't local to us but we decided to give it a try. We had a lovely evening and the food is extremely good with efficient service. We will definitely be eating there regularly as curry is one of our favourite foods and the drive is definitely wothwhile.

Great food! I've been going there for 25 years and I've never had a bad meal. The staff and management are very friendly. There's usually room if you just turn up other than at weekends when its advisable to book. The restaurant is very clean and very well run. They also do a great takeaway service. You may even get the manager turn up with your order!

After visiting the micro pub nearby, my husband and I decided to find somewhere to eat, This restaurant we hadn't really noticed since we moved here a year ago, fortunately this restaurant was better than we expected! In fact the food and service was excellent. I just love a restaurant that makes sure you have a drink within 5 minutes of sitting down. We were also really impressed with the speed in which the food came. The plates and food were piping hot. Excellent taste and friendly service. We ate it all!!

Hemos usado este restaurante de comida para llevar y comer en años. Había un baño poco en servicio y calidad de alimentos el año pasado, pero que han recogido de nuevo y es volver a ser delicioso! Una cosa que yo diría es que no te dan un plato de gambas si conseguir un llevar. Pagamos 10 libras por un curry de gambas y tenía unos 3 langostinos en que había sido cortada, no quedamos muy contentos! El biriyani, pollo tandoori y todas las partes vegetales son increíbles, así que nos atenemos a eso. Lo recomiendo para comer demasiado - el personal es muy amable y acogedor para los niños.

Fuimos como una pareja pero vi la familia de allí. Hacen una entrega de comida para llevar. Encantador y keemanan korma pashwari nan encantador.
