A pretty high standard of pub food. The trio of meat on the Sunday roast was good, not as good as home cooking but then it never is when eating anywhere that is serving many covers.

Arrived quite late in the afternoon and was very hungry. We ordered 3 roasts and the seasonal fish dish. The meals were delivered in a timely fashion and were really tasty. Great pub inside and outside; very helpful staff; and the "Er-hacktulee-i-er-just-moved-to-Hi-hams-apark-vya-Awesomestow, YA..." will love this E4 pub...feels like it's targetting the middle-class thirty/forty- somethings who've traded Stoke Newington flat for E4 house and first baby. The locals and fellow diners are a good bunch, friendlier than in the noughties. Decent beers; arty Tottenham Outrage mural outside... a very likable building inside and out and worth a visit if you're walking in the Forest. Sunday lunch we ate was: good. Not great but better than average. Decent portions but chewy roast meat with half-hearted veg disguised under a good gravy; speedy service we received was unusual and suggested the pub is very popular with locals on a Sunday, so the food is all cooked prior to you walking in and placing orders. Table we reserved was small for group of six but cosy - the booth-like seating makes the acoustics excellent... I suppose it's the Royal Oak's atmosphere that makes it worth paying £20 a main dish for but not the food itself. Decor and atmosphere - 5/5 Staff and service - 5/5 Food - 3/5 Value - 3/5 Kids and dog suitability - 5/5 Overall: Great pub worth visiting for a meal with friends/family/dogs and it might be even better with its non-Sunday lunch menu. Recommended daytime venue.

We had our wedding reception at the Royal Oak. I cannot praise the staff enough for helping us create such a beautiful and memorable day. Georgia went above and beyond in coordinating the planning of our event and answering my never ending list of questions. Kelly and the team were so friendly and attentive on the day and the night before. All our guests commented on how lovely the food was and the team at the Royal Oak worked with us to create a menu for our special day. It was great value for money and felt very bespoke. The private area was just perfect for the size of our wedding party, the staff joined in the fun too, dancing the night away while still keeping up excellent levels of bar service. Several of our party ourselves included stayed in the guest house and the rooms were wonderful and Saturday mornings breakfast was a real tasty treat. Thank you for everything Mr & Mrs Andrews

One of the best pubs in the area. Well kept, great service and the food here is generally very good. I've not had a Sunday roast but I hear it's good. There is plenty of seating inside the main bar as well as out the back in the garden area which is both covered and uncovered. There is another dining area, but have not sat there as it's never been that busy on the times I have visited. Went for a Sunday roast after recommendations from local WhatsApp group. One of the worst Sunday roasts I've had. Beef was overcooked, tough, and chewy. The broccoli, meant to be al dente, was rock solid. My knife could barely cut through it. Two measley pieces of carrots and they charge for extra veg. Dry and hard roast potatoes. The only good parts were the service, the ambience of the pub, the drinks, and the gravy. My partner had the lamb and wasn't impressed. He said the cauliflower cheese lacked seasoning and taste. If I lived locally I would drink there as it's a lovely pub, but definitely wouldn't return for the roast.

This used to be our go to pub lunch but after yesterday experience I don’t think we will ever go again. It appears that the chef has been changed as both Sunday roasts were disgusting. Whilst both meats were ok, the potatoes were like rock hard bullets even after soaking in gravy, the Yorkshire pudding was indescribable. It was big very dry and rock hard tthe inside looked like an aero bar as all bubbles This is first time we have never had dessert or left a tip As not the cheapest lunch in the area you would still expect it to be eatable which it wasn’t

On a trip to London, we wanted to belatedly celebrate a birthday. We needed a dog friendly place within a reasonable distance of where I was staying. Looked on Tripadvisor and The Royal Oak popped up. We rang to book- easy to do; and just checked the pub really was dog friendly. It is. Easy to find; Plenty of easy parking and a lovely welcome from Kelly who made us feel so welcome. The menu was a good mix and it was easy to find something we liked. There was plenty of room so those who don't want to be near dogs can do so with ease. Dog stories ( and pictures) were shared at one point. Kelly looked after us really efficiently- taking drink orders as soon as we sat down. Food order taken promptly and arrived quickly. A bowl of water arrived for the dog.....treats offered but he decided to go into Diva poodle mode! The 'human'food looked beautiful - was really hot and absolutely yummy. Clearly, the Royal Oak has a loyal local customer base but we will definitely be making this a place of choise. Thanks so much.....and especially to Kelly. You are a star. .

Just in London for a day and my partner booked this spot to stay on a Saturday night. Great looking place with huge beer garden and an indoor/outdoor type orangey for drinking. Easy checkin with a polite member of staff. Room was lovely, room was quite warm but a fan was already in there. Lovely bathroom, great shower with a large rain head. We came back about 11:30pm on the Saturday evening and the bar had a really great atmosphere. We came downstairs for breakfast on the Sunday morning. Just a veggie option and full English available. But have to say the food was great. Good portion size and great quality produce. Also great coffee made fresh from the machine unlike a lot of places that just give you instant in catering flasks. Would definitely stay again.

I wrote a review before but somehow it’s been removed. So I’m writing it again. Been coming here for a few years now for the Sunday roast. Last time we went we were shocked to see the price of the roast up to a whopping £19 per person for the beef roast. It used to be between £13-14. So a massive increase overnight. Needless to say we won’t be returning as it’s just ridiculously priced now. I understand inflation and the state of affairs in this country but that level of increase is pure greed. it’s just a whole lot cheaper to make at home yourself.

I rarely write a bad review, but the meal we had last night was a disaster. Fish and chips, 2 small pieces of fish, which when the batter was removed , (because it was soggy) amounted to about 2 forks full. Steaks described as ribeye were full of sinew, salmon was dry and overcooked. After complaining about the F&c it was removed from the menu, but even so, for a pub that gets such good reviews I was amazed, must have been chefs day off.

an amazing taste for food , I was so happy of the quality of Cod & chips,so fresh that I couldn't believe how delicious and fresh the cod and chips is . My partner ordered lamb shish kebab wrap and told me she hasn't had a wrap like this in ages..she was so happy. The service was excellent and very welcoming even though they where so busy we was told they are cooking our food and we was updated of the progress then our takeaway/collectionwas on time ready to collect. I will 100% recommend everyone to pop in and try Dennis Chippy amazing chips .. tell a friend to tell a friend. The finest food in East london.MR U Kaygisiz

TLDR: Overpriced food (avocado on toast was a single untoasted slice of bread with avocado cream, nothing else on the plate - £8.50), of mediocre quality (avocado cream was so salty it was nearly inedible) and unprofessional service (refused to refund or even discount a meal which was returned after a couple of bites because it was too salty to be edible). Long story: Went there for a casual lunch with family, 4 of us. Ordered a variety of food, although we were the only other customers in the place and the only other table had finished eating and thus were not expecting food, our simple order (avocado on toast, eggs on cream, chicken thigh and salad) took over half an hour to be ready. Two of the meals were incredibly overly salty, one of us complained after a couple of bites that their meal was too salty - was offered a choice of something else but turned it down as wasn't confident it wouldn't be salty too and didn't want to return a second meal. At the end we were charged for all four meals. Upon questioning that one of them was returned uneaten because it was too salty and inedible, we were told they couldn't refund it because it had been half-eaten. A conversation followed, during which the staff were clearly unwilling to give us a discount or refund for the meal, instead insisting we were being unreasonable, and at a point even the chef interjected to say they thought we were wrong to ask for a discount on our inedible meal. I have worked in restaurants and bars for many years, to serve amateurishly salty food, be in the embarrassing position of having a meal returned because it's not edible and not offer a discount or any kind and insist customer pays full price for a meal they didn't (couldn't) eat is very poor, particularly when charging extortionate prices.

We arrived for lunch. Having found a table we went to get our hot food and drinks. After choosing our lunch we had to go to the coffee counter to pay and joined a queue of people who were buying drinks as the other till was unmanned. By the time we paid for our food and got our hot drinks are meals were no longer hot. The manager on duty was telling off the staff within our hearing for not manning the coffee counter. We couldn't get a decaf tea and the manager was brusque and dismissive when asked where the cutlery was. Would think twice about going back.

Overall it was a very good experience. I want to score it 3.5 just because there are so many tweaks it needs to be perfect. The arrival was okay - there is no clear parking area, very dim lights and incorrectly signed areas to the entrance and the grounds need some tidy up and presentation. There is an old steam train but it's hidden behind some bins.. The tube train itself looks great. There are some small steps up to the train so not sure if wheelchair / accessible. Great: service, friendly staff, accommodating, background music, temperature inside the train was warm, the food was excellent, pacing of service, ambience, birthday requests, food presentation, intro from the chef before eating, all dishes are served to everyone at the same time, choices of drinks, seating on the soft seat / private tables, the moquette chairs, no table was left unattended. Not So Great: the toilets are terrible; clean but think camping - spiderwebs, cold, in an out-building, used as a cleaning storage area. The menus are little QR codes on the train walls; an A4 printed menu with a theme would have felt more upmarket. Some of the train is falling apart; loose screws and potential hazards from falling maps above your head! Seating on the large table looks cramped and not easily accessible, and extra seats without the moquette are hard. Floor heaters should be replaced by overhead heaters, a final dish of maybe coffee and words from the chef at the end would be a smoother close to the meal, a microphone for the chef as it was hard to hear at the back. Things to note: the menu is corn-based and dishes a little spicy. There is a raw fish dish, but you can ask for an alternative at booking. I plan to go back, but hope that the Not So Greats are noted for next time.
