I simply cannot understand, how I’ve had to wait 2 hours for a starter that could have been made in 10 minutes in the air fryer. The only positive of my trip, was the 1 week new waiter that was running around serving us to the best of his ability. Salty crab, salty lamb, salty chicken. Should have had the curry.

We visited today for a Sunday lunch, it was very busy but we were quickly shown a table. We ordered & paid for our drinks and meals & waited.....& waited. There was no indication from the staff of how long the waiting time was.... However when our meals arrived they were lovely, we decided to order a dessert, but for the price the portions were tiny. If the kitchen can't keep up with the orders coming through then communicate with your front of house staff who can then keep customers informed & maybe explain the waiting time when guests wish to order meals. I would like to commend Alison, this lady was here, there & everywhere, sorting takeaway mix ups, calming waiting guests, serving both food & drinks & clearing tables. The other lady too (sorry didn't get your name) was busy serving drinks & keeping the bar area clean, as for the two young lads we saw.....come on at least smile while delivering food & pick up the pace a little. Being in hospitality myself I know communication is the key to a smooth shift, remember happy staff, happy customers! Thank You, we will be back!!

Happened upon this pub while travelling, serving food all day; simple menu, really nicely served and presented, very tasty. Family friendly, our two littles were very happy and shared an adults jacket potato and beans. Without asking they brought out two little bowls and spoons. High chair was actually good, safe and usable. Pub clean, fresh and a nice place to eat . Big carpark at rear. Also noticed they had pancakes on their menu (lemon and sugar or syrup) for pudding which is a nice simple change from the norm.

Very good place very underrated on Google by people who expected 5 star service from a local pub. By the way the food is very tasty, the place is open all day all week when other restaurants are closed. Here lives welsh soul of Newport people, you can hear Welsh language and taste Welsh food. The staff also is very friendly. We stayed in Newport one week and there was no question to try another place for dinner.

Was in the local area looking at the Burial Chambers. Went into Newport looking for somewhere to eat.( Monday lunchtime) Royal Oak had a board outside "food served all day". Once inside was informed smaller menu, lighter lunch meals. I ordered the whitebait, c/w salad, coleslaw, bread and butter, wife had quiche, c/w salad, chips, coleslaw. Thought not going to be enough for me, so I ordered a side dish of chips. When they brought the food to table I thought that was a mistake ordering the chips. Food was excellent, service was excellent, portions was very big, ( didn't quite eat all the chips) prices was very good, will definitely eat there again if in the area.

Just had a takeaway curry from here - really tasty and generous portions. The chicken and mushroom balti was spicy enough to keep me happy and the king prawn korma was not the normal saccharine goop, but really well flavoured and full of juicy prawns. We booked a table and emailed our order through before arriving. I had called in a little earlier to explain my father had dementia and if they had a quiet space we would be grateful. When we arrived they had given us a complete corner to ourselves and were very friendly and welcoming. It put Dad at ease straight away.We had lamb chops and a sirlion steak, plus a salad. Has to be one of the nices side salds I have had for some while, in fact so big we took some home for the next day. I thought the food was lovely. We picked this pub as it seemed a little more like a proper pub, than the others in the village, we didn't want high class cuisine, just ordinary pub food and this certainly lived up to our expectation.

We recently had a drink in the Royal Oak . The bar staff were so rude and unwelcoming , we asked if they were open as it was very dark and no other customers ,the older lady said what does it look like . A few young men came in who were obviously locals and one of them started playing the piano , we were pleased as it lifted the gloomy atmosphere. The way she spoke to him was apauling if she had spoked to me that way I’d have left immediately. I suggest the lady in question goes on a customer relations course.

We are on holiday in the area and booked a table at the Royal Oak with our two dogs. I turned up and it became clear that we had arrived at the wrong Royal Oak- there is another Royal Oak in Fishguard (honest mistake, I’m pretty sure this has happened before with tourists) anyway I opened the door and some rude older woman barked at me NO DOGS ALLOWED’ I was trying to explain that I booked a table and there must be some confusion. Instead of listening to what I had to say and letting me know I had turned up at the wrong pub she was rude and abrasive and basically pushed me out of the door, all the while talking over me and refusing to let me explain. Seriously manners cost nothing!! Such a shame as we are in town for a few days so would of likely gone for a drink here and sat in the beer garden with the dogs or come inside and left the dogs at home. Times are hard for pubs and restaurants so I’m really surprised staff are pushing customers out. Really not happy with the way I was spoken to.

Staying in Wales for a week and visiting Cardigan, we asked in a local coffee shop if they knew somewhere good to eat in Newport our next destination? They recommended The Royal Oak saying it may not look much from the outside but the food is great. So off we went and we certainly weren't disappointed. We ordered the sea bass with lemon sauce, the Hunter chicken and 2 different curries with rice. The food came and we were all seriously impressed at the quantity and then the quality. The lamb curry was so tender, the king prawn so fresh and plenty of them. The sea bass was huge with amazing lemon sauce and the Hunters chicken comprised two chicken breasts with an amazing sauce. The service was spot and staff were very helpful and friendly. Nice local beers in a very homely pub. We will definitely make a special visit to eat here again. Thank you to all concerned, well done.
