What a lovely friendly historical coaching Inn. Place had a really lovely ambience, spotlessly clean, no sticky tables or floors here. Had a really delicious great value lunch. Menu had something for everyone. Owner & staff were all really friendly and very patient with my rather rambunctious over friendly labrador. Will definitely be back.

As usual for lunch, did not expect anything would be different from the usual pub fayre. However, despite there being only one other occupied table in the lounge area we were provided wiith a reasonable menu choice and everything was explained to us. I had something simple being ham, eggs chips and peas and my colleague had the salmon fillet dish. These were both delivered with fresh ingredients, superbly cooked and presented, the cutlery was stylish and of decent quality. We will definitely visit again when attending business in Melton Mowbray.

We had such a lovely visit here! Nipped in earlier in the day for a drink and the landlord (sorry I didn’t get your name!) was so welcoming and friendly. My wife and I used to live in Waltham on the Wolds and the Royal Horshoes was a regualr watering hole - in fact for a while my wife actually worked behind the bar. It was some 20 odd years ago that we last frequened the pub, but we decided to pay it a visit for old times sake. The layout has changed slightly which is to be expected, but it has still retained a lot of its character which is nice. Anyway to the main reason for my review. We decicded to go on Monday evening to take advatage of 'pie night'. I had the chicken, mushroom and tarragon pie and my wife had steak and ale pie. We both agreed that the pies we had were quite simple up there with the best and at £7 a pie it is had to see how they can do such tasty homemade food for the price, but the pub was very busy so if their business model is to sell good qaulity pies, at reasonable prices, to get customers in and presumably returning, then it is obviously working. We will defintely go back!! Oh and the staff were very friendly too.

Popular with the locals but it isn’t going to bring in any new custom. Great building from the outside, not reflected on the inside. Empty bar with no one serving at it. Empty restaurant full of pre set tables and no dinners. Freezing cold too. Friendly enough staff when you find them. A good shake up could make this place popular on this busy road between Melton and Grantham. The toilets are something of an era gone by. Cleanliness is not the best. My wife and I stopped just by chance at this pub for lunch and were very pleasantly surprised. The pub is built in the old style with plenty of wooden features and low ceilings. There is a good size car park just off the main street and there is an area outside where you can sit but it looked like it was awaiting a bit of TLC. At this time of year you wouldn’t want to sit outside anyway. We had skewers of salmon, mouth watering scallops and prawns served with a mixed salad sprinkled with a balsamic dressing. I had a pint of my favourite Dumbar ale and all was well for the afternoon. We were served by a very peasant young lady and enjoyed our lunch which was unexpectedly good. There is quite a good range of dishes on offer plus a specials board that we chose from. Including drinks it came to £36.90, so not at all bad considering the quality of the food. Would recommend it if you are in the area.

I wanted to take my elderly mum to somewhere different from the norm and so we drove to Waltham on the Wolds and happened upon Royal Horseshoes Inn Restaurant. It had ample parking and was set in a superb position. We were warmly greeted albeit the restaurant was very quiet having just one other couple and a chap sitting at the bar. It was not a problem as there was excellent music playing in the background, a combination of Frank Sinatra & Adele, which ensured that we could here ourselves talk, but times between were not lacking in atmosphere. We were directed towards the Chalk Board which contained details the meals of the day and quickly we chose our our meals and ordered drinks. My mum settled upon a Ham Salad, not actually on the menu but the waitress was more than happy to adapt the advertised Smoked Salmon, which was one of the sandwich fillings, it was accompied by New Potatoes. I opted for the Sherpherds Pie accompanied by vegetables. The quality of the Ham was excellent and mum really enjoyed it but the star dish had to be my Shepherds Pie which came in a substantiual individual lidded dish, on a warm plate which had a very good selection of seasonal vegetables. When I lifted the lid, the aroma of Lamb and Mint coming through the mashed potato topping was simply mouth watering. The taste was even better as it was not the normal lamb mince, but instead it was pulled pieces of roasted lamb which was interspersed with mint leaves and cooked to perfection in a rich gravy and appropriate veg. The accompanying plated vegetables where also Fresh Veg, cooked to perfection but still retaining enough bite to make them correctly cooked. After such a feast neither of us could manage a dessert but we happily paid the bill and returned back to mums home town of Melton Mowbray very happy with ours selves and promising to return in the not to distant future.

Went on a Saturday night & had brilliant service from Mick (the owner). Great choice of food off the specials board & menu. The food is always exceptional. The Sunday lunch is excellent as well - would recommend to anyone. My nieces give the choc fudge cake 5You would be daft not to try this pub!

Good traditional English, with good pub food to match. Great pleasing and helpful service, with an easy and relaxed atmosphere. It was clear that many dinning were regulars, which says much for its quality.

Below the church in Breedon-on-the-Hill, there is a 16th Century Inn - Holly Bush Inn- which ticks all the right boxes if you want good authentic English fare. The owners are very friendly and keen to tell you about the history of the local area. The night we were there, the Inn was full with Australian customers enjoying the pies and deserts prior their return to Perth. There was a very happy band of locals as well, enjoying the night cosy atmosphere. In all, a great experience.

Staying at a nearby hotel and rang to book a table at short notice. Arrived to find warm and welcoming bustling pub full of locals and unbeknown to us on "Pie only Night" We had a choice of feta and veg pie, chicken and mushroom pie, steak and ale, and smoked cheese and ham pies and they were delicious! ( only had the first two obviously ) and only £7! Good service and lovely atmosphere

I made a reservation the day before and asked not to be sat at the table near the front door, people come & go from that door and we've been stuck there before & been freezing cold. We arrived and were shown to our table, by the front door would you believe so I expressed that I had particularly requested not to be sat there. Staff were apologetic & moved us. The pub was very busy as it was 'pie night'.They were quite busy & after seating us, they forgot to come back to take our food order. When we did manage to ask someone they were apologetic that they'd forgotten us.Can't fault the food it was great. There was a young lad who was our waiter and he was excellent, very polite & helpful, wonderful customer service skills an asset to the pub.Service at the bar wasn't great although pleasant enough. My friend & I ordered a coffee & tea for after our meal, after 15 or so minutes it didn't materialise so I went up to ask if they'd forgotten us, (again) the Irish bar girl/ waitress made out that they were just doing our drinks & asked if I was having a peppermint tea, where she got that idea from I don't know & they definitely were not making our drinks until I went up. She then came over later to check our bill & asked if we'd had 3 diet cokes, we'd only had 2. We enjoyed the food but we felt quite invisible, it wasn't a very personable experience, other than from the lovely lad, who was only a teenager, who did try to look after us & apologised for the delays. All said & done, I'd be reluctant to go again, also, on pie night, there are a lot of bookings so nowhere to sit if you just wanted a drink & chat other than at the bar. Croxton Kerrial pub has recently had new owners and despite some teething problems there, they are much more attentive & personable and have tried to incorporate a 'lounge area' with sofa's & books & real fires. We'll be trying a meal there next time.

My partner & I come here quite regularly. Lovely pub & friendly staff. Have had various meals & have to say can't fault it at all. Would also recommend their pie night but remember to book as it does get full very quickly.
