Food has always been okay, however the restaurant allow you to accumulate loyalty rewards and issue a voucher after X-amount of orders/spend. This was one of the reasons we used Royal China instead of the slightly better local alternative Chinese take away. Upon trying to redeem a loyalty voucher, RC cancelled the order without explanation, no call, nothing. Seems short-sighted to lose a customer by doing this, but we won't return.

Ordered a couple of starters instead of a main, duck rolls and satay dip, and salt and pepper chicken. Looks like sprinkled amongest the sea of beansprouts there is a rare glipse of a frozen duck piece in the lava oiled spring rolls, served with a lava bubbling pot of satay oil, doesn't seem to be much taste to the lava...no nuts for anyone with allergies just the colour brown (sarcasm, please don't order if you have allergies) Chicken was dry and more salt than pepper....love a silver fox but tonight, more pepper please. Won't stop me ordering again, I have faith please come back to the RC we know and love

Terrible! Gave them a second chance under new management, but I can now confirm that the food is terrible, just like the first take away. Everything is battered, including the salt and pepper ribs, they were nice and tender and not battered by the previous owner. This is not a Chinese restaurant that I will return to EVER! Or recommend, such a shame to see a good restaurant go to waste.

We were used to the quality of the original Royal China. However after a change of ownership, we were disappointed by the food. Prawn toast and wontons were over fried and had little filling, most went in the bin. Battered chicken balls had quite dry chicken inside. Lemon chicken was ok, but had lumps of thick lemon sauce. They will need to up their quality to gain the custom of the previous business. Doubt we will visit again though.

A spur of the moment takeaway on our way home. Phoned ahead order was ready. We’re not big fans of Chinese takeaways but fancied a change. Great choice, the food was excellent. We ordered spring rolls, they were extremely crispy the sauce was good. Quarter crispy duck, meat was perfect. Kung Po chilli chicken with egg fried rice. This dish was amazing one of the reasons we’re not a fan of takeaway Chinese food is the sauce can be gloopy, this dish was the complete opposite full of flavour no gloop. The prawn crackers were cracking… we won’t hesitate to come back. Thank you Royal China, shame the restaurant is closed.

We wanted to celebrate my daughter’s birthday with a Chinese meal. We chose the Royal China as we have eaten there for many, many years and it was always excellent. Sadly we had the most awful takeaway we’ve ever had. In fact, the food was almost inedible. Salt and pepper chicken was so chewy you couldn’t bite into it. The sauce with the spring rolls was disgusting. The only starter that was ok was the seaweed! Our main courses were so disappointing. One main was wrong. We ordered Kung Po hot chicken but got something else. No idea what it was but it was claggy and tasteless. The others were also the same. In fact they all tasted exactly the same and we just couldn’t eat them. The sweet and sour chicken balls were chunks of tough chewy chicken inside a huge greasy ball and the sauce itself was like jelly! Considering this was a special family meal and it cost us £125 we were gutted. Worst money I’ve ever spent on food. Don’t know if the Royal China has been taken over by new owners but they really need to up their game. We will definitely never eat there again.

Hadn’t had a Chinese one ages and picked RC due to location. Three of us dined. It was 7pm and the place needed a good hoover. There wasn’t much to say to be honest. It was very average food, presentation was poor and service was probably below average as well. Had a mixed starter but it didn’t really float the boat. They didn’t have any lamb left in menu, which for a Friday night you’ve got to question. Noodles with main were cool, and again not that tasty. Service was slow initially and was just very functional and impersonal. Won’t be back

Took my parents for dinner last week, dreading it a little as Dad is a very fussy eater. All the staff were very friendly and accommodating, smiling and pleasant, very happy to answer questions about the dishes. Mum and I shared a banquet and we ordered separately for Dad. We also changed two of the banquet dishes for less sugary options and there was no hesitation on behalf of our waitress, who recited the order to ensure it was correct. We all shared the hot and crisp mixed starters platter, as there was enough for 3 people. Dad was in 7th heaven. Seaweed AND chicken skewers with peanut sauce, followed by a main course of chicken in cashew nuts. Mum and I felt unable to eat the Crispy duck so opted to take that course home to have the next day. Staff were very happy to pack it up, hoisin sauce and all, for transporting home. Mum was equally effusive about her meal, the flavours and quality of the cooking and both have expressed every desire to return. Every dish was piping hot, crisp and moist and tasted just fabulous really. What a great night. Thank you you all so very much.

This was my first time trying this chinese. I didn't know what to expect so I read some reviews. I agree on some of the points mentioned. The food is pretty good. I had the Royal China chilli chicken. Not very spicy, but I didn't get something that was radioactive red, which was nice. You could taste the fresh lemon, which I really enjoyed. I think in the future it will be take away only because the drinks are what made our bill particularly expensive (just under £100 for four people). It's not on draft so it is much more expensive than other establishments. At least with takeaway I'll get a relatively decent chinese and get my own drink. Staff seemed nice and enjoy a laugh too though. The 'trainees' are a bit quiet, but that's ok for me. My mum also can't eat gluten so they made the honey chilli chicken especially for her without batter, which was very helpful. Also, can someone please give the place a good clean? The official hygiene rating for this place is Needs Improvement. There is a thick layer of dust in a lot of places, mainly on the fake plants in the bathroom. My partner commented saying there was a light hanging from the ceiling in the mens bathroom that was thick with dust. I'm surprised it didn't affect his asthma to be honest. The evening was nice, but unfortunately all I remember is the chilli chicken, spare ribs, and the thick dust on the fake plants. I don't need that image in my head from a restaurant.

Everything seemed a chore. When presented with our shredded spring onion for the duck course I thought it was the left overs from another table. There wasn't enough for one pancake. Asking for some more was a bad thing to do. We had a set meal and I rate it as the most awful pasty sauced food I've ever had. Think of an M&S Chinese tipped into a bowl. M&S tastes better though. All the dishes were the same. Best bit was the noodles!I could and do; do better myself. This seals it for me. With SAMs in King St gone Yu in Union street gone I'd say I don't want to eat this poor quality rubbish so Chinese is off the menu now. This is one lovely restaurant to have a meal, staff are very friendly and the food is very good. Ordering a set meal you get a good choice to choose from.

The restaurant was busy, but not overly so, enough to have a nice atmosphere. Chose Set Menu, as always, asked to substitute one of the courses as no-one liked it. That, like everything else was no problem for the very polite staff.Again another excellent meal

This is a popular well established Chinese Restaurant which at lunchtimes particularly offers incredible value for money. £7 for a two course meal no less !! And the portions are good too. Even at night it is well priced and offers a wide range of dishes. The staff now have a great following too. Attractive décor and excellent toilets complete the package. They offer a takeaway service too . The whole experience just grows on you over time

In the company of 16 friends, I visited the Royal China for a set banquet meal. Everyone enjoyed the food which was freshly cooked and plentiful and, although I declined, the staff were only too happy to put the leftovers into plastic containers for some people to take home, . The service was very good and my only grumble was that the wine could be bought either by the bottle or in the smallest measures.

Our meal was the banquet option and boy do you get value and quality here! The location (outside Aberdeen) is not ideal which means tables are easy to book. Staff attentive.

Went after many years of not going due to previous bad experience. Was completely disappointed and felt ill after eating there. Food was dry and tasted like it has been reheated. Restaurant had only 6 customers when we were there. Won't ever be going back again

The Royal China in Peterculter is excellent for both dine-in and take away. We have never been disappointed with the quality of the food or the service here. The menu is the same for both dine-in and takeaway and the portions are always decent. The staff are friendly and efficient and I feel the prices are acceptable for the quality of the food.

For my birthday dinner I chose to go for a Chinese meal. The Royal China is always a good choice, and quite close to home, so I booked our table for 4 for a Saturday night. Surprisingly, the restaurant was not as busy as we'd have expected for a Saturday evening. We were given a very courteous welcome and shown to a lovely big table, away from the other diners. While we browsed the menu we were served Prawn Crackers and our drinks.Always when we eat Chinese the fun is choosing several dishes and sharing them! We all chose a starter and added an extra one for luck - Spring Rolls, Seaweed, King Prawn Tail Rolls, Chicken Satay Skewers and Dumplings. All of these except the seaweed were brought beautifully arranged on a large platter and were delicious. Only criticism we had – not nearly enough Satay sauce. For main courses - once again to share - we chose Lemon Chicken, Chengdu Chicken, Chai Sui Pork and Crispy Fried Shredded Beef, along with two portions of rice. These were all excellent, and very generous portions. Plenty food...but we didn’t leave any!No room for dessert for three of us, but my husband managed Ice Cream. The food and service are always very consistent at the Royal China – a great eating experience, with very attentive service. With 4 glasses of white wine, and two beers our bill came to £91.00 for the 4 of us. We had taken two Spree Books with us....and forgot to use the vouchers. Just means we will have to make a return visit!

I recently purchased carry out fish and chips and white pudding suppers from this venue and was really impressed with the quality. If you enjoy a fish and chips carry out then this is well worth a visit if you are in the area.

We visited the Royal China in Peterculter just outside Aberdeen with friends. It's been some time since we were there last but it did not disappoint. The staff were extremely attentive. It was a Saturday night and extremely busy with both take away and sit down meals. This did not hinder the service one bit. We opted for the Banquet for 4 and they even exchanged some of the options to suit without a problem. We had the starter platter followed by the Aromatic Crispy Duck. Both with plenty to offer. For mains we had 4 dishes with rice and noodles to accompany and sadly far too much. It would have served 5 without a problems. We opted for coffees rather than desert as we were all too full!!Some of the party had a bottle of wine and even with that included it was extremely good value for money. We will not hesitate to return as its right on our doorstep. Only one criticism....the take away collection seating is right beside one of the tables which happened to be ours. Sadly a child accompanied his mother to collect a take away thought it ok to swing around the bannister beside us. Mother had her head in a paper and completely ignored the child. Perhaps a screen to separate the two would be appropriate. Moving forward requesting a different table would be in order and we will definitely be back.
