Found this little gem when we visited Liverpool for the day while staying in Chester. The croissants are huge and are delicious. I also had the hot chocolate, which was amazing. Probably one of the best Iā€™ve had in years. We even took another two croissants (Chocolate) back with us to Chester. Will definitely go back next time we visit Liverpool.

Been calling in for years every time we're in town. It's a rainy half term day today and the shelves are completely empty apart from 2 individual pastries. It's 2 pm and there are 2 more trading hours left. Guys, what happened with your planning? Most disappointing.

Great little spot down at the docks. It was very busy when we went but didn't have to wait long. Croissants (were massive) and coffee were lovely. Definitely would go back to try some of their other options.

If you are making a trip down to this place specifically don't bother. They can't cope with demand. I am of limited mobility and have walked down twice from central station at 12pm to be met with my least 20 people standing in front of empty counter. Presumably waiting for more pastries to be baked ,and about 20 people queuing for a drink. Go somewhere central don't waste your time.

I went to this bakery with my partner, after a blustery walk along the docks. The space was welcoming and the staff were friendly and helpful. The pastries all looked absolutely delicious and my mouth watered just looking at them! We picked a croissant with dulce de leche and a cinnamon bun with walnuts. These were enjoyed with a hot chocolate and flat white. We did plan on only eating half of our baked goods, but they were so delectable that we couldnā€™t resist finishing them! If you are in the Albert Docks area, definitely pop in for a pastry!

Good coffee, nice bakes, and what a place to sit. We had breakfast pastries on Tuesday, and when we were back in the city centre on Thursday, it was the obvious place for lunch, the breakfast pastries having been so good. There wasnā€™t much savoury, but when I asked, was told what was just about ready, and had that. (Then went back in when Iā€™d finished to drop my empties and to say how good my sandwich had been.)

Attending a local conference, I wanted something a bit tastier than the standard hotel fayre, so headed to The Albert Dock to see what was available. I stumbled across 'Rough Handmade' and first impressions were very good indeed. Produce was laid out for self-service (with tongs and disposable gloves) and there were lots of tasty offerings available. Staff were busy preparing food, bread and pastries in the open plan area and it was great to see the artisans at work. I chose a chocolate croissant and ordered an Americano with hot milk. Customer service was exemplary, and once served, I sat inside and took in the ambience, having views over the dock as well as some vibrant and tasteful music playing in the background. For a place I had not planned on visiting but stumbled upon instead, this was a very welcome find, and I am certain that next time I am in Liverpool, this is a place I will certainly seek out. Thank you for a great start to the day Rough Handmade.

Not sure if youā€™d call this place a hidden gem because it was quite busy but this is bakery heaven. I felt like I was abroad when I was here. Upon entering you are greeted by a large open kitchen seeing the bakers at work. In front of the kitchen they have a selection of freshly made sweet pastryā€™s and then around the corner nearer the till you have the savoury options. Despite them having limited stock when I visited, I quite liked it because it showed that everything was being made fresh and that once itā€™s ready itā€™s being served to customers. No stale food here, itā€™s a moving system. If they donā€™t have what your after just wait and youā€™ll soon be able to put your mouth around something scrumptious. We couldnā€™t believe how massive the croissants were. They were pure beasts!! We got a white chocolate and a milk chocolate one. I also got an almond plait and a spinach and feta pastry roll. I couldnā€™t resist and had to get the velvet hot chocolate as well. The croissants were very springy and tasty. The fillings were lovely. The milk chocolate was even nicer because they were just made so were beautifully warm. The spinach and feta pastry was also nice. The hot chocolate was wonderful. Maybe not for someone with not quite a sweet tooth as my wife couldnā€™t drink all of it. I bloody loved it! Finally the almond plait was fantastic. More on the less sweet side but excellent sugary crisp on the outside, buttery softness in the middle and very tasty almond flavour. Overall, I love this place and so does many others. The only slight negative I could find is that the staff could maybe be a little friendlier. They are obviously busy which is fair but happier staff makes it a significantly more welcoming atmosphere. I also found out that anything they donā€™t sell they give to charities. Amazing!

Quick shout out to the lovely staff who served us on a busy Sunday morning. We were unaware that you had to queue separately for cake/snacks and then queue again for coffee. We joined the coffee queue and proceeded to order two pastries, the member of staff went out of her way to ask one of the ladies baking in the back if she could have 2 pastries for us to save us queueing again, the lady from the back obliged and brought the member of staff our pastries. Thank you for this as we were unaware of the queue system and could see how busy you were! but we really appreciated you accommodating us and with really lovely customer service too. Coffee and cake were amazing. Best pastries in Liverpool.

Once we found Rough Hand Made we kept going back. The buns and croissants are delicious and quite large. The savoury rolls are delicious and so are the quiches. The tea and coffee are good. The staff are lovely. It's hard to fault. The range of products is relatively small. I think they go by "do a few things and do them well." The main problem is that things sell out. Last time we visited all the pastries were gone, except the almond plaits. Fortunately we loved the almond plaits.

Noticed this bakery on Sunday afternoon when we were walking around the docklands area but they had completely sold out of pastries given it was late afternoon. Made a note to visit early Monday morning to pick up some pastries for breakfast which I did this morning. Me and my wife love chocolate croissants, especially when theyā€™ve been freshly baked and so we were excited to try these. Unfortunately, we were disappointed. We went for the chocolate croissants but they didnā€™t contain an awful lot of chocolate and the chocolate they did contain was oddly dry. The pastry itself was relatively tasteless and heavier than you would expect for a freshly baked pastry. The top crust of the pastry was also too thick suggesting it was over baked. Despite being the only person in the store at the time not a single member of the 5-6 staff spoke to me before I went to pay for my pastries. Overall a disappointing experience. The pastries do look great sat on the counter and so I can understand why this place sells out, but the taste just doesnā€™t live up to expectations.

Saw several people carrying bags with the logo for this bakery so decided to investigate. Very nice location on Albert Dock and great fresh croissants. Also bought some dulce de leche and alfajores. Other people recommended the savoury tarts.

Had read all the reviews and hoped it would be as good as everyone said, trust meā€¦ it is!We had a selection of croissants (white chocolate, milk chocolate, plain and caramel) between the 4 of us, all tasted absolutely wonderful! Be warned, theyā€™re massive, you wonā€™t need more than one! (A lesson we learned!)

This place is top rated on Google for a reason! Situated on Albert Dock, this bakery is an absolute must. We popped in for a morning pastry and coffee/tea, we liked it that much that we called back at lunch time for a sandwich to eat on the train home! The prices are very reasonable, considering that certain franchised coffee shops charge a fortune for mass produced food which doesn't taste half as nice! The cinnamon and walnut swirl is a 10 out of 10! Good COVID-19 measures in place, the bakery was spotlessly clean. The staff are really friendly too, all said hello with a smile under their masks!

We stopped off here for breakfast on our last day and it was wonderful. The staff were friendly and the plethora of pastries suited all our tastes. Each baked good was huge and delicious, and set us up for a brilliant day around Liverpool. I would definitely come back here if I were in the area again.

Delicious pastries for when wandering around Albert Dock but we actually visited for our breakfast. Massive pastries and very nice coffee - visit early to avoid disappointment as get the impression they run out after a while due to popularity

Can't fault the food here - high-quality hand-made sweet and savoury pastries and the jars of homemade jams and other spreads are a nice touch. The packs of pitta and the home-made breads are great too and well worth picking up if you're going in and happy to spend a bit more. The place in general has a rustic European feel to it which is refreshing and feels really authentic.Couldn't give it the five stars I think it deserves though because the queue prevents me from going more often and I think little changes could and should be made to make for a better experience for people as the place increasingly becomes more popular. When I visited in February, the queue was almost 20 minutes long in freezing temperatures, and by the time I got into the shop there were almost no pastries left. When I asked one of the staff if they would have more later, they seemed disgruntled, which I understandable because of how busy they are but it's obviously unpleasent. The place is incredibly popular as it should be, but I think warning people in the queue that they were low on items would've been the right thing to do because the queue wrapped around the quayside and doesn't make for a nice experience to find out the items you wanted are sold out until after queuing for 10+ minutes. I walked past 2 hours later and the queue was just as long so couldn't really be helped by going at a quieter time as it seems there wasn't one. I visited again this month and the queue was still rather long and only 2 selections of sweet pastries were left, one of them being just the plain croissants.Part of the reason the queue moves slowly is because the cashier serves people one at a time so the line inside the shop builds when there are people getting a lot of hot drinks, which the barista has to make, so maybe serving people who aren't getting hot drinks separately would help speed up the queue? I also think introducing an ordering system (like allowing people to order pastries on an app) or even taking orders for people in the queue if they know what they want would make for a better experience too.

We wandered in for parties and coffee and were not disappointed. The lattes were hot and delicious and the pastries out of this world! I had dulce Dr leche which was as big as my foot! And hubby had apple and raisin whirl which he thought was really nice. We'll be back!!

Wow. Just wow. Rough Handmade really lives up to the hype. The dulce de leche croissant was heavenly and the hot chocolate was divine. The staff are welcoming with fantastic infection control. Well worth the queue, will be going again and highly recommend to everyone!
