Rossi's Ices in Weymouth and Portland

We called here on a recent trip and were amazed at the value of ice cream available. We both had a large Natural Cone with a chocolate stick. Change from a fiver is unbelievable in today's economic situation. We got the impression our server was ready for the end of season closedown and a much needed holiday! I'm sure after Rossi's recent tv appearance trade has been very busy here all Summer. Despite this, she was always professional and efficient so I'm glad we stopped by as the ice cream was delicious.

Checked website opening times. Went but indoor seating closed. Only flavour available was ‘natural’, which I guess is another name for flavourless.

We've just returned from Weymouth, where we looked for and found this amazing Ice cream parlour (thanks for the heads up Susan Calman!). Easily THE BEST ice cream I have ever had. EVER. We tried the raspberry flavour on the first day and the natural on the second. Hard to decide which was more delicious. Can see us driving the 200 miles back to Weymouth just for this ice cream!!

I have been coming to Weymouth every year for 33 years now and I always have to have a Rossi's every time I'm passing the parlor! Always natural for me as I just love the taste of it. Just the best ice cream in the world.

Our ice creams were absolutely perfect. The staff are friendly and efficient. We know where to go to and who to recommend to family and friends 🍧😉

So glad we read other reviews and stopped here for ice cream. 3 delicious flavours on offer the day we stopped by - coconut was our favourite. Absolutely top notch. Very happy family - even in the rain!

Live local so popped in to sit and eat ice cream 11.30 raining outside not a soul in there, but owner says sorry you have to book its high season, “but no one here” we say, don’t matter we only let people sit who want to eat ice cream “that’s why we come here to eat ice cream” we say, phone and book then you can come in, “you know what keep your ice cream we say” very strange way to do business guess he would rather sell a couple of cones to tourist who take away and maybe come back next year! So can’t tell you about the ice cream, but I can tell you he not exactly a pleasant chap, come across strange on TV programme, now I know why…..TBF plenty of other shops selling ice cream, ok none of them exactly like Italian Gelato, but is Rossi’s like it either…who knows, will I bother to find out…NOPE, should have advertised this when trying to promote the business on TV, that he don’t really want people to eat in, and what’s more passed the shop 30 mins later on way back, still not a soul! And what’s it take to eat whatever ice cream he sells 10-15 mins….

I have been eating Rossi’s ice creams for over 20 years now and it is my favourite of all time. The best flavour is coconut but natural is a very close 2nd. Every summer we come to Weymouth and I time it so I get an ice cream on the walk to the beach and then one on the walk back. This time I was able to try a new flavour, lemon heaven it was delicious.

After watching the interesting programme about Weymouth and this traditional family ice cream making business I decided to try it on a recent 4 day holiday. Myself and fiend were blown away by the taste,size and value for money on the ice creams,and returned every day for the delicious cones Tried the natural flavour which is made daily as well as lemon and chocolate flavours all of which were delicious. Complimented the owner and his daughter on their business and product and they were genuinely very thankful and humble. Anytime I passed the shop on the seafront there was a queue which tells you how popular the business is. The ice creams are all made daily and are a different taste to a traditional Whippy but in my humble opinion are far superior. I voted for them for the National Business Awards to show my appreciation for a wonderful traditional TIP FOR VISITORS : If you want to try the daily flavoured ice cream get there early as it often runs out mid afternoon due to popularity.

Stopped here for a quick ice cream as we walked along the seafront, what a beautiful seafront it is. Lovey beach, lots of cafe pit stops and lots for kids to do including a fair on the beach. Anyway back to ice cream. Not expecting anything other than ice cream but wow what's an experience, beautiful icecream, whole family loved it. Everyone agreed it was the most delicious ice cream we had ever had! We all had vanilla with cones and a flake! Tasted great and there was hardly a queue.

I was looking forward to an ice-cream from this place, since it has a long and venerable history. However at midday on a Thursday they only had vanilla and chocolate flavours available, and the vanilla I chose was utterly tasteless and had a rather offputting blueish tone to it. The girl who served me was surly and unsmiling. Disappointing all around.

We had magnificent ice creams sundaes here. A family business since 1937. Home made ice cream and generous portions. Delicious!

Someone told me that Rossi’s was the only place in Weymouth to get ice cream, and they were not at all wrong. When we arrived on a Saturday afternoon there was a huge line around the corner waiting for ice cream. It took us about 20 mins to get to the front - but it was so worth it. Just went for the plain ice cream and it was sooo good. The best I have ever had. I can see why it is so popular. Very reasonably priced too. This is no ordinary ice cream, this is a Rossi’s (Weymouth) ice cream. On this occasion I had raspberry….. and this ice cream has real raspberries in it (you can see and taste the actual fruit!) no artificial flavours here!

We stopped for an ice cream and I was initially disappointed that they didn’t have a Mr whippy. The server explained that the ice cream was all made on the premises and the natural flavour tasted like a Mr Whippy. My child had the strawberry flavour which he declared perfect and even had fresh strawberries in it. I had the natural flavour and I have to say it was one of the best ice creams I’ve ever had and I’ve had a lot! I would definitely go back here again rather than the ones on the beach.

We decided to have an ice cream from here rather than on the immediate beach front. Much better value and far nicer ice cream.We each bought a large tub, this was 2 scoops of ice cream for £2.My husband had paid £2.50 for a small Whippy Ice cream on the beach front. This was NOT whippy ice cream, it was far more delicious than that.Thank you

Rossi's is different to any ice cream you've ever had. It's absolutely worth a go, homemade on site, especially on a hot July day. Beautiful building too. I believe they are related to the Quo as well.

Years ago in West London and the Staines area a Rossi ice cream van was common place but then faded away like most of the things from the 60's. The texture of this italian ice cream served by a man with an italian accent was second to none and as a child was the best treat on the weekend you could have.Having moved to Dorset in 2004 I have visited the Rossi's shop on Weymouth Esplanade by the clocktower on a few occasions and every time I have a 99 ice cream it takes me back to those past days in the middle of summer eating some of the best ice cream ever. The shop is till run by descendents of the Rossi family I believe. A tradition worth saving for the future.

We stopped here while walking along the beach front in search of an ice cream. I had waffles with Chocolate ice cream, my partner had the banana milkshake. Both were very nice, the ice cream was very rich and creamy. Very much worth a visit!

Considering this ice cream parlour has been here since my childhood in the 1960s, says it all.Really pleased they have branched out with new flavours other than natural and chocolate.Yesterday the peppermint and dark chocolate was great. Can’t decide which to try next...raspberry ripple, mango, coffee, praps all of them.Great value for money compared to beach vendors. Eat in or takeaway.

Get dragged here everyday here by the kids and other half does varied versions of real ice cream that include natural ingredients none of the whipped rubbish

If you want Mr Whippy, Rossi's is not the place to go. Authentic, creamy Italian ice cream in several flavours, usually natural, coffee, mango and, I think strawberry. Delicious!

Fantastic texture, taste, quality.....just like ice cream used to be. The mango was fresh tasting, not synthetic like some.

I am sure the ice cream is lovely but only 2 choices of flavour and staff were rude and not very welcoming. Decided not to stay and found a hut on the sand just across the road with a nice choice of flavours and friendly staff.

This is by far the best ice cream parlour that anyone will ever visit. They make fresh ice cream everyday. During my recent visit to Dorset I went twice and they had different ice cream flavours everyday. One day I had coffee flavour and another I had raspberry flavour, both were delicious.

Me and my son popped in for an ice cream sundae and a drink. Staff were really welcoming and polite. We sat in and each had a sundae and a drink. I had a choc nut sundae and was pleasantly surprised to find a selection of nuts included and not just hazelnuts. It was filling and delicious. A great treat for us!

The queues outside Rossi's speak for themselves! The ice cream served here is unlike any other ive tasted. Deliciously creamy and smooth but not at all sweet. The flavours on offer vary daily. Forest Fruits was my favourite this time.

It is tradition for us to have a Rossi's icecream on each visit to Weymouth, or daily if staying. Vanilla is very nice but there are a good choice of other flavours too.

My family have been coming to Rossi’s for years & years, grew up visiting the beach from my home town just half an hour away. As a child we would always set up on the beach just across the road from Rossi’s, perfect for when swimming & loosing your parents on the beach. I now visit with my husband, on the first day of the season, the last day & many time between. Today storm Hannah paid us a visit, so rather than have a takeaway cornet we decided to sit in. My husband chose a raspberry ice cream & cherry Melba, I choose the chocolate & nut with natural ice cream. As always very tasty. Only natural ingredients are used, (No mr Whippy type with additives)

I've been going to Rossi's for years now and it's still the best ice cream in Weymouth. The flavours are always delicious and so fresh.

Really fantastic ice-cream. Made with a family recipe. All natural flavors. If they say ‘forest berries’ you will have real forest berries. I can only compare their ice-cream to the best ice-cream you can have in Italy

I have not been inside the restaurant but it has the most fabulous ice cream which it sells from a kiosk type opening. A definite must try!

Ice cream is really nice just like I remember from childhood. The natural is my favourite some of the other flavours that are sometimes available e.g. fig might be a minority taste!

We always look forward to having a Rossi when we come to Weymouth, we managed three this week. Strawberry, chocolate and natural. There is no better anywhere, long may it continue.

We went here for ice creams based on some reviews we were very disappointed there was only three choices of ice cream so only a third of our group had them usually we all have them from an ice cream shop would not go here again

I grew up in Dorchester and as a child whenever in Weymouth we would always have a Rossi ice cream, so now that I only visit rarely as live further away my children always get excited to have a Rossi ice cream . And on carnival day we each had a different flavours all of which were devine.
