I was a little nervous about my first meal out since lockdown but needn't have been. The tables are quite a way apart and the staff all wear masks. The food was fresh, very well prepared and tasty. I had fish and chips, best chips in a restaurant ever. My son had ham, eggs and chips and enjoyed that very much as well. The staff were friendly and helpful. No-one suggested we moved when we had finished eating. No musak, a great plus point for me. I really dislike mindless sound wallpaper.I had a glass of Pinot Grigio, which was the best I have had in a pub. I didn't think it was overpriced, £37 for 2 with a drink each, plus an orange juice and one coffee.

We selected this pub from TA reviews and as a senior contributor ,I do not make negative comments wherever possible.Perhaps the chef was not on duty yesterday but the presentation, quality of product and cooking was very poor.I hope that this was a one-off but I would not visit again. The young staff were very welcoming and deserve better support.

From previous TA reviews we expected a super lunch. Wrong! The lunchtime menu was standard pub fayre rather than interesting, but fish and chips seemed attractive as we were told that there was a chance that the fish had arrived in the morning and hadn’t been put in the freezer. It was served quickly and the fish was good, with the batter a fraction undercooked, but the chips were at least twice cooked, yesterday’s reheated, not at all good, and we left most of them. A neighbouring table eating 15 minutes had much lighter fresh- looking ones. One of our group who had the ham, egg and chips had the same problem with the chips and didn’t rate the ham either. Added to that, a pint of Doombar had to go back because it had a poor taste, a hint of vinegar. We were the first in for lunch, but a quality pub would make sure that the first pint pulled was good, and that the kitchen wasn’t taking short cuts. Poor. Very disappointing.

We were a group of eight cyclists who needed a lunchtime stop on a two day cycling tour of the Chilterns. Aware that many pubs are still emerging from lockdown, I phoned up in advance to enquire whether they could help. I spoke to Kelly who was able to arrange sandwiches and chips, even though this wasn't something that they would normally do on a Sunday. The food was delicious and the portions spot on. Kelly and her team couldn't do enough to help and I would certainly recommend The Rose & Crown. Oh, and the roast lunches looked superb but alas, not very good for cyclists who then have to spend all afternoon in the saddle!

Myself and my brother used to meet for lunch at another pub situated between Aylesbury and Leighton Buzzard. Sadly the pub is now closed so we needed a new lunch venue. This is a great local in normal times - excellently kept beers from nearby breweries and a high standard of food. In the midst of the Covid lockdown it has turned itself into an efficient and inventive lifeline for the village. We now have our favourite pies and Sunday roasts in takeaway or delivery form. The socially distant conversations in will fellow villagers the car park collection area have turned it into the nearest thing we have to a social life at the moment.

This was our first visit, so did not know what to expect. This is very much a pub, so no need to dress up! Our first impression was how noisy it was. Meeting up with friends and next to a table with several children and loud adults made it difficult to talk. However, the food was very good. I had the Lamb Cobbler with cheddar mash and veg. All well cooked and excellent. My husband wasn't so impressed with the chips he had along with the fish. A bit undercooked. The desert menu was difficult for one of our party - no gluten free options (apart from ice cream) and nothing 'light'. I had the Roly Poly with ice cream which I enjoyed very much.Would we go back? - probably not. Nice to see a local pub so busy though.

This pub was taken over about a year ago (I think), and the new owners have turned it into a welcoming, vibrant hub for the entire village. With three bar rooms and a restaurant - including a cosy little snug - there’s plenty of room for large groups or the odd quiet spot if you prefer. Lots of outdoor seating means you can enjoy a pint overlooking the village green. The food is tasty, solid pub fayre, with very generous portion sizes. Just arrived home after having a really nice lunch at the Rose & Crown. Their 'Lighter Menu' is great value for money at £10 for two courses. And the choices of mains are simply smaller versions of the normal mains menu - and the portion size was plenty for me (a lady of slightly advanced years). It was good to be able to finish the meal without any wastage. And to be just nicely full. The steak and mushroom pie was very nice with plenty of tender meat, and the selection of fresh vegetables was also good. I finished the meal with the sticky toffee pudding which came with lots of custard and butterscotch sauce. My friend and I definitely recommend this pub.

On arrival we were given a warm friendly welcome and shown to our table the menu was mainly british fare and everything that was ordered was very tasteful not one complaint from our table. 2 starters, 5 mains, 2 desserts, 3.5 pints of lager and 3 soft drinks came to just over £20 per head. A very reasonable price. I could go on about the different meals that we all ate but go and try the food for yourselves, portions are large which is why I chose this title but very delicious. After looking at the reviews and the names of reviewers in a bit more detail it does seem a bit odd, are they really genuine? No way is this a 5 star establishment. Some of the reviews read like marketing messages and do appear to have too much detail for an average visitor. The reviewers 'names' are very consistent, looks suspect but hope I am wrong.

A very tasty meal from a varied Valentine's day menu. Delicious starters of Camembert, focacia and roasted garlic. Well cooked steak and trimmings, sole dish and trio of desserts. The lightest sticky toffee pudding I've ever tasted being my favourite. Individual bottle serving of prosseco was good to have so fresh and fizzing. Can't drink a whole bottle and my husband would rather have a beer/red wine. Pleasant surroundings and good service. Would recommend.

My daughter and I visited this pub with our Irish Wolfhound. Even though we arrived minutes before the end of lunch, we were made very welcome and enjoyed one of the best pub lunches - we can absolutely recommend the burger! The owners and staff were very friendly and welcomed Alfie with open arms - definitely a dog friendly pub.

Popped into here last weekend (29 Oct) after going to the goat centre. Was just expecting a quick bite to eat. So glad we came here :) Food was great, menu was considered and service was brilliant :) But that's not the best bit. Outside, there are a couple of ponies (who are so friendly), the village is picture box perfect and the owners are the most welcoming I think I've ever met at a pub. We were talking about chilli (and how I don't like them, but my friend does) and the owner brought over some local chillies which are locally grown for my friend to try out. I even made friends with the owners little dog when I went out for a sneaky smoke! :) All in all a great meal and I will definitely be returning :) Highly recommended :)

Recently stopped here for dinner having spent the day in the charming surrounding local countryside. We were recommended the pub by some locals and it far surpassed any expectations we had of it! The food was superb and the atmosphere even better. The couple who owned it made you feel like part of the family, checking everything was alright throughout the meal and keeping us entertained, so entertained in fact we decided to make a night of it! The addition of the tearoom looks to be a very good one making this lovely establishment even more endearing. The perfect little slice of old fashioned english country pub pie!
