The fish and chips were excellent, restaurant not as busy as it should be, probably as it is located at the quiet western end of Shoreham High Street just across from the Ropetackle Centre Comfortable seating and temperature, no drafty open doors The music was of a much higher standard than most restaurants and cafés too

Had always been great, down the years and as it had been some time, thought we'd try again. Wish I hadn't...the fish needed ringing out and even then, was full of oil as you'll see from the pics. Forgot to look at TripAdvisor before ordering. Seems that it's been taken over. Safe to say, based on this, we won't be trying again any time.. The savaloy had a big split down it too. Horrible.

We've ordered fish and chips for delivery from Ropetackle many, many times and have never been disappointed. Even when they have to contend with queuing traffic due to major long term road works on Brighton Road, Lancing - the food always arrives piping hot. Perfectly white fish, fantastic batter and triple cooked chips - what's not to like. First class food and a first class delivery service.

Used to be fantastic but they've changed hands. The new owners don't seem to know what they are doing. So sad...

We like to come over to shoreham for a walk along the house boats and to come here for fish and chips. These are the best fish and chips ever always so fresh and piping hot. The curry sauce is amazing,husband loves it because he can have a beer with them to.

For a basic fish and chip shop ,eat in,out or take away we have found the food here constantly good. We visit Shoreham often and for a no-frills meal this restaurant fits the bill for a fish and chip feast. No great surprises on the menu,all the fish can be fried or grilled which is a plus,chips,salad or boiled potatoes so health conscious people can relax. Friendly service from a chirpy waitress. Good value and always fresh,just what your local fish and chip shop should be.We are regular visitors to Shoreham and this is on our list of revisits.

This place lacks the vital ingredient for any successful food outlet; Consistency. Sometimes its OK, sometimes it's bad. Not worth the gamble at 10 Quid for fish and chips.

Friendly and relaxed vibe. Happy we discovered this. Food was nice and the waitress was really friendly.

First time getting food from here. We had Haddock, American burger, chips and chicken nuggets and Sticky toffee puddings Quality was brilliant, food arrived home hot. Burger was great, fish was fresh and desert went down well. We will definitely be back

Lovely chippy, staff are so friendly and attentive. Food is delicious, and they were about to adapt to certain dietary needs. Will definitely be coming here again.

Had a fabulous delivery tonight - hubby had scampi which he said were delicious & I had the most fabulous piece of grilled plaice accompanied by lovely crispy chips. Thanks guys 🤩

Last 3 times we have ordered a takeaway we have been disappointed with the quality of the batter on the fish. It was very greasy and the grease has soaked right into the fish and affected the flavour of the fish. Before ordering the 3rd takeaway, I did ring and explain about the 2 previous meals. I was assured it would not happen again but .............It did! The oil had dripped out off the box and soaked into the outer paper wrapping. The chips are always delicious but we won't be ordering from Ropetackle again.

We had a takeaway from here ( having previously eaten in house) and were very impressed that the short journey had not impaired the meal too much. Good sized portions ( one large chips was far too much for 2 ), lovely succulent cod and a nice light crisp batter.

Popped into this restaurant to get out of the rain for some lunch. What a lucky find. We all had lovely meals (pie, haddock, sausage and chicken nuggets) - decent portions, perfectly cooked and at a great price.

Have enjoyed several good fish and chip dinners from this chippy recently. Telephone ordering or even online ordering is available but it’s quite simple to just order and wait on the pavement (Covid19). The fish portion sizes are as described and the chip portions are fair. The food tastes good and I look forward to when we can return to sitting down inside again.

Good fish & chips, surly staff taking order on telephone but beyond that a 2 hour wait to get a delivery to the beach 5 minutes away. Each time we phoned to chase we were told it was ‘just’ coming out of the fryer which was a complete lie. Such a shame

Won’t revisit felt unwelcome then was charged too much and short changed. Was told was a great experience but far from it.

It was cold and windy and we popped in about 4.30 for a meal. My husband had grilled cod, chips and salad and I had fish cakes, chips and salad. My husband loves fish and really enjoyed his grilled cod. The chips were a lovely golden brown and dry and crunchy, the best I think I’ve had in ages. The place was clean and the waiters were courteous and friendly and, sadly, we were the only people there. We will be going again soon, thank you for a lovely meal

I had fresh haddock there which was absolutely delicious. I also want to mention the taste of chips was unique and gorgeous. Restaurant and toilet were very clean which is unusual for a chippy. Friendly staff. I do recommend to everyone and I will go back for sure.

Basic surroundings but lovely fish. The waitress told us what had just come in and we had that, it was perfectly cooked. The chips were lovely too, no grease, plus salad and home made tartar sauce. One warning - they only accept cash.

Ordered here recently and the service was excellent, cash payments only. Food was delicious, the chips delicious and not greasy, fish was delicious and we had one grilled as mum didn’t want batter, again delicious. Highly recommend we will be returning!

Not good at all. Haddock looked like fishfingers and the chips not great Really sad as they used to be good ☹

We went on a Friday night and ate in. We had Huss & Chips and Haddock & Chips, washed down with a bottle of Peroni. Service was excellent, friendly and about the right speed. The waitress advised us of the freshest fish of the day (which we had). Not at all greasy and very tasty. I wold recommend the home made tartare sauce. Maybe a little more pricy than one might pay inland (the bill came to £31), hence the 4* rather than 5, but I guess thats the premium for being by the sea. Slightly strangely they don't accept cards, but this was made absolutely clear by the waitress as soon as we went in and its plastered all over the menus, so it was not a problem. Toilets were spotless. All in all a very good experience and would recommend (especially to those attending gigs at the Ropetackle Arts centre !).

Recently had a meal in your restaurant, was served by a friendly and well mannered young girl. Was very busy night, food took very long to come out, salmon was overcooked and when mentioned the Male workers were very rude regarding this. I did notice the young girl who served me and my family was very busy and looked over worked. Another girl was there but not very helpful due to that fact there was a language barrier. Customer relations are bad but I take my hat off to the young girl that served me as she was doing all the work. Only given 3/5 if it wasnt for the girl then it would have been less.

Perfect chips served hot, beautifully cooked fish and no greasy batter. Great atmosphere and very friendly, welcoming service. Will definitely eat there again

Always good quality and great service really good menu as well been using them ever since I moved to Shoreham 8 years ago.

I’ve been here with my family. It’s a family friendly place. Food, service and cleanliness were top quality. They have local fresh fish which is absolutely delicious. They said they are using natural rapeseed oil instead of palm oil which made a big difference on taste I think. I’ll definitely come back. Many thanks.

For a number of years we have considered Ropetackle as THE place to go in Shoreham for a f&c; treat by the sea. The food used to be hot, fresh, full of taste and brilliantly fried.

Having stood and spoken to the surly man behind the counter and given him a sizable order, he promptly picked up the phone while telling me the huge price of my order and then proceeded to deal with that customer who'd jumped the queue instead, which I objected to. I then gave him my card to pay for said sizable order to be told it was cash only! In 2019! Apparently the Co-op up the road had a cash machine so I went on my way to fetch cash. When I return to re-join the queue the surly man had been replaced with a much nicer lady who did have some customer service skills and promptly took my payment. I then waited a further 20 minutes and took my oily fish & chips onto the beach where my family were waiting. Not planning to return in a hurry!

We have used the takeaway service from this restaurant a number of times now and every time it has been within the delivery time stated and the food has always been outstanding and excellent value for money.

Having ordered from here plenty of times before, paying by card for delivery over the phone. Went to do this again tonight to be told they only accept cash now.....so told the gentleman to cancel my order....Only for attempted delivery 30 mins later needless to say refused the order. All of this while the website advertising that all major credit and debit cards are accepted. Got to say very disappointed with the service this time round won’t be returning in a hurry.

Called in on the off chance. Staff very helpful. Had the pensioners meal which included a drink. The meal was just the right size for us, not too much batter and the fish was beautiful. My husband was also offered mushy peas much to his delight. Must say the decor is not great but we were just in for a quick lunch not an evening out on the town!

We ordered dinner from here after recieving a menu in the post,we ordered 3 meals on friday night,we were most impressed all the food arrived hot and packed ready to eat from boxes. The chips were lovely and crispy and my husband and daughter said the fish was cooked to pefection.we will deffinatly be using them again

The chips here are crispy not soggy, which makes a change. Having had fish twice, on one occasion the batter was light and crispy and the fish perfectly cooked. On the other, the batter was a little lacklustre, but the fish still well cooked. You can sit and eat inside (beer and wine are available) or take away.

Takeaway fish and chips delivered to the door. Beautifully packaged, food arrived piping hot, delicious fish and chips at a very reasonable price.

Stopped here after a visit to the Ropetackle Centre. The fish was freshly cooked whilst we were there. Good cod and the mushy peas were good. Really liked the chips. Not cheap, but good quality and fresh.

Popped in here one evening prior to an event at the Rope-tackle centre just expecting a plate of average seaside fish and chips. What was served up was fantastic, fresh fish, tasty batter, chips cooked to perfection and all for a very reasonable price. Lots of takeaways traffic going on and everything that came out of the fryers looks spot on.

The food here is always good, and we have never had a bad or even less good meal. Staff are friendly and we alsways get a seat

Delivery a great idea, wish more chippys did the same. No grease,no waste, no skin, fab crispy chips not soggy at all. Tasty large sausages and delivered hot, very impressed.

Was in need of a quick takeaway last night, have had takeaway and eaten in at rope tackle and it was always quite good. Last night our supper was delivered very quickly but was very dry and not up to usual standard

We ate here again today and the cod and chips are the best in Shoreham. The staff are excellent very accommodating.

Treated ourselves to a takeaway. The fish was fried to perfection in a light crispy batter. Lots of chips but they were not oily, and tasted great. Was a little busy but the food was worth the wait!

Take away very good fish n' chip supper. Nice battered sausage, plenty of chips, light fluffy batter all not too oily. Quick service and good value for money to feed a very hungry family. Yum

Quite busy popular chip shop. Moderately priced and nice sized piece of fish plenty of chips. Took a little while as the fish was cooked to order but it all tasted great so we didn't mind.

Really tasty fish and chips kids had fish cakes they liked them reasonable price to feed us all a bit busy but service was fast

Tatsy fish not too oily nice batter, chips were good. Portion size just enough with medium, I would recommend this place as on of the better chip shops.

Only used the take-away service which is always faster than they say. The food is always hot and the portions are a good size.

We cycled 33KM from Christ's Hospital to Shoreham-by-Sea and we were tired and cold. The Ropetackle gave us such a friendly welcome and we enjoyed the most delicious fish and chips with a pot of tea (burger and chips for our daughter) before finding the station to get the train back. The restaurant was warm, clean and friendly and delicious food. Thank you for the perfect end to our day.

The quality of the food,the service and the cost as a package is amazing. The fish is so fresh, so white and freshly cooked. The service was very quick and to have 2 medium cod and large chips delivered to your door at 21.50 for only just over £6.00 per person is amazing.

This is the best fish and chip shop we have been to. The food quality is excellent and you can eat it there while enjoying a glass of wine.

The only fish shop we found along the coast road from Eastbourne through Brighton to Shoreham by Sea where easy parking was available.

Very rarely do I leave somewhere worse than I felt going in (and I wasn't feeling bad to begin with)How can a chippy get chips and beans so wrong that I end up leaving saying I'm never coming back.Here's how: with miserable service. The man that served it the till had a look on his face as though my being there was an inconvenience to him. I ordered chips and beans and his face just looked disinterestred moody. The cost was £3.65. They charge a galling £1.40 for beans! In fairness they do come in a decent size pot and they are Heinz.My order was ready in five minutes. They made a mistake and made peas - I am fine with this I'm not even complaining about that small errors happen. They put my chips on the counter on top of the laminated menu. My pot of beans arrived. I started to pour the beans on top of my chips. This time another even grumpier man mumble something like do you have to do that there and indicated that he wanted me use another section of the counter and not on th menus. He looked at me contemptuously and then made a big show of wiping down the menu and apoligising to the customer behind saying "Sorry, is dirty."I told him and the first fellow that they have no customer service and that was the first and last time I am ever going there.I left feeling so angry that I had to write this review.Chips were quite good and beans were what they are but too expensive.

Went with a friend to the Ropetackle Fish and Chip Restaurant last Friday before going to a concert at the Ropetacke. The food and service were very good. We both had large cod and chips with mushy peas for around £10 a head. There was plenty of seating and the staff were very pleasant. Will go there again soon.

Since moving to the are we have ordered chips from Ropetackle on two occasions. Our first experience was very lacklustre. We ordered over the phone and collected. Service was quick but impersonal. No friendly greeting, no thanks for our order. Just seemed happy to take our cash and see us out of the door.After reading rave reviews about this place we were left disappointed. The battered sausage tasted weird, chips were ok and the haddock was alright. But nothing fantastic. We thought perhaps we caught them on an off night so should try once more.After our second visit we won't be returning. For the price we found our portion was quite stingy. Again, the service was disappointing. The staff need to work on their people skills. In no way were we made to feel welcome or that our custom was appreciated. Just a smile would be nice.I can't recommend anywhere else, but I know there are plenty of other places to try nearby.

Had such a lovely meal with my husband and son (11th May), our second time here so knew we were in for a treat. Made to feel welcome as soon as we arrived/issued menus. My husband ordered the plaice and my son and myself went for the cod (with mushy peas for me and pickled onion for my son). Very tasty all round – generous portions and a warm and relaxing atmosphere. Our go-to for fish and chips - thank you, we will be back.

We arrived looking for a quick meal before going onto a concert. I ordered chips with a battered sausage, my fiancee ordered Chips with Roe. We had to wait over half an hour for our food, which was pathetic because all of our choices were already there and being served to customers who were taking their food off the premises (after we had ordered). They obviously took priority over people who were seated and wanting to eat on the premises. If the wait wasnt bad enough, my sausage turned up un-battered and they tried to over charge us by £10.00.Wouldnt have been so bad if the food was actually nice, IT WASNT. The standard of the food was matched by the standard of the service - very poor.No matter how hungry you are, pass by this premises, do not be stupid enough to go in.

We only go to this place for fish n chips in the area. Consistently well made food, not greasy. My kids always enjoy the kids meals and they are very good value as you get a drink as well. They have a veggie option as well which great as my daughter is vegetarian. It's also a nice spot to eat in as well.

We visited here a while ago for a pre comedy show dinner. It was a Monday night and was quiet but it didn't stop us.Friendly staff and service. Very clean and the food was lovely. Will definitely visit again, and would recommend to anyone and everyone.And they deliver! Five stars, well deserved.

We ate in this restaurant,which has no real style but is clean and tidy. The fish was lovely with a nice crisp batter that complimented the fish rather than dominated it. The chips were the crispest I have ever had and were really delicious. It was a good portion and served with a bit of salad. Would recommend and will return.

Desperate for a chip butty, we had our own buttered rolls and bought a small portion of chips to share. The portion was very generous and being fussy chip eaters, we judged the chips as being fantastic! Crispy on the outside, not too greasy and fluffy in the middle. A few crunchy bits too - one of the best portions of chips we've had! The interior looked very inviting too. We are eating in next time we visit!

Had take away from here a few weeks ago and wasn't impressed. The fish and chips are in a rather expensive box and the whole meal didn't taste good by the time we had driven back to Steyning. Very very expensive

I decided to try the delivery service from Ropetackle Fish and Chips. I wondered how they would be when they arrived. We are fairly close to the shop and they arrived at the time I asked,which was just after our family arrived. They were packed in several cardboard boxes and still hot. The fish and chips were excellent and we had a great time and had little washing up.I will certainly use them again.

I have often had rake-aways from this restaurant and have also sat and eaten.The food is always cooked to order and never sits around in the cabinets, its not greasy and always dry and crisp.The staff are always polite and helpful

Great chips here - incredibly crispy and tasty! A real find. It's very rare that you would find chips this good at a regular chippie, or a portion as large.

Had dinner here yesterday evening ,I had skate with chips the others in my family had cod The chips were lovely ,double cooked crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside.the fish was perfect with a light crunchy batter the best fish and chips I have bought in a long time,I will definitely visit again if I am in the area .

I have taken away from this place many a time which has always been lovely but have always wanted to sit down for a meal. On Saturday I took my husband and son for a meal. My son had a change to the meal stated on the menu – this was not a problem and was warmly accommodated. Prompt service and wonderful food – a real family feel to this place which is lovely. We all ate far too much but we will most definitely be back! Keep up the good work 

As a northerner I don't like battered fish with the skin on so they're off to a good start. Chips are first class and there's a wide range of alternatives. Having tried several I can recommend them.

Spent over £17 on two large chips, two medium cods and 2 battered sausages. The chips were overcooked mostly all brown and crispy. The cod was sooo greasy it just fell apart and the boxes it came in had actually started to disintegrated by the time I got home ( which is only 5 mins away) the man that worked there was EXTREMLEY rude, so all in all i was extremely disappointed, was a waste of money and we defenitley won't be returning...

Dropped in for large cod and chips. Despite the advertising blurb in a leaflet on the counter about their local potatoes I'm sure they were using frozen chips. The fish was fine and large but I don't understand why so many chippies are now reverting chips out of the freezer. It's a big no no for me. They are hard and pale and just not worth eating.

Unreliable, consistently 20 - 45 mins late on every delivery and by time the fish and chips actually turns up its soggy from sitting in the box for so long.Shame because used to be so good.

Been here many times before usually very good but this visit chips were dry hard and over cooked although cod was ok the batter was hard dry and oily. Not sure what happened this time. Hopefully this was a one off or we'll be looking for another fish and chips shop

Our son and grandson arrived today from the States and being Friday fancied fish & chips. The food we ordered cost £44 + and it was the most awful fish and chips I have ever had, (very dry and overcooked) apart from the last time we ordered from them! Hopefully I thought it would be better than last time but I was very much mistaken and will never order from there again.

We gave used and been regular customer since they opened, staff were originally from Turkey...all lovely and friendly people.Just recently different staff, English, I believe, have been the majority of the staff, all new fades...some of the original staff are still there too. Not sure if new staff taking over or Turkish staff in the process of "training" and "handing" over to the English staff. Quite concerning, new staff unfortunately don't have the same friendly and welcoming manner. Service is not the same, the young girl tonight very aggressive and unwelcoming. I think the new people are a family group, non of them appear to have the training in any "customer service" skills. The original Turkish staff are still there, however they appear to be taking a "back seat".Portion sizes and attention to customer request no longer appears to be on their agenda, very sad to see these disappointing changes.Will provably be looking to go elsewhere, even though their quality of fish is great, don't like the appearance and attitude of the new "English" staff.....what a shame!!!!!

My uncle always buys his fish and chips from here and having tried it on numerous occasions I have only been left a little disappointed once. The portion sizes are very generous (I can never finish my chips), although perhaps a little pricey. I would also recommend their new-ish calamari dish. Although, this has arrived a little over cooked on one occasion. Overall a great fish and chip shop, if you're willing to pay a little more than usual for quality.

The fish and chip are well prepared and cooked and not overly expensive. When I visited the staff was lovely and did all they could to please.

My wife and I ordered a delivery meal which was delivered on time ,but we ordered early evening 5pm and the meal was warm,seemed like lunchtime leftovers,very poor with crispy chips hard fish.will try other takeaways in future,Shame because in the past this takeaway has been really goodbad news for Shoreham

We ate here last week. The fish and chips were very good the chips especially good crispy, dinner came very hot and staff very helpful. We have had a takeaway also from here again extremely came on a cardboard box not polystyrene. We shall return.

Good size portions and freshly fried. Only down side is the packaging, which was polystyrene - having been brought up on newspapers, this is disappointing!!

We have been using this fish and chip shop ever since we moved here 3 years ago,the food is still good quality but the friendly atmosphere has gone ! We were always treated so well staff were lovely and polite unfortunately this has changed new staff are unwelcoming and a little rude at times!! This is a real shame as it puts us off going there!! Please have a word with your staff and bring back that lovely welcoming service again.

We were recommended this restaurant by a friend and now always drive to Ropetackle Fish and Chips in Shoreham from Hove for a sit down meal. In all our 10+ visits we've never been disappointed.
