Roosters Bar & Restaurant at Morley Hayes in Erewash

So very disappointing birthday dinner - Caesar Salad served on hot plate, bacon strips fatty not crispy, chicken breast plonked in middle of bed of lettuce so tough and over cooked couldn’t cut let alone chew , 3 slithers of Parmesan cheese - could not recommend

Visited Roosters Bar as a family of seven to celebrate my husband's "big" birthday and could not fault our experience at all. We were seated quickly, drinks orders taken immediately, and as soon as we had had a look at the menus our orders were taken. Our ages ranged from 5- 80years (oops - that big birthday!) so obviously our food choices varied quite a lot but the meals came out without a problem The staff were attentive and helpful, as always, so once again, I would like to thank everyone at Morley Hayes a great service, great food with great ambience and hospitality.

I recently visited your establishment on Tuesday, 13th February to celebrate my partner’s birthday, and I wanted to share some feedback with you. Morley Hayes holds a special place in our hearts as my parents got married there, and we have been loyal patrons for the past 20 years. However, I must express my disappointment with the decline in both food quality and service, particularly in Roosters Bar. The ambiance and service in Roosters Bar felt reminiscent of a chain pub, rather than the upscale experience we have come to expect from Morley Hayes. There were instances where the waitress behind the counter loudly called out to a young male waiter, which seemed inappropriate and detracted from the overall atmosphere. While the house breads starter was tasty, it was overshadowed by the excessive amount of olive oil provided in the ramekin, making it difficult to enjoy the bread with the balsamic vinegar. As for the main course, I ordered the hunters chicken, a dish known for its simplicity. However, I was disappointed to find that the chicken was overcooked and tough, resembling reheated packet meat. Additionally, the bacon topping appeared burnt, further detracting from the dish’s appeal. I share this feedback with the hope that it will contribute to the ongoing improvement of your establishment. Morley Hayes holds a special place in our hearts, and we sincerely hope to see a return to the high standards of quality and service that we have come to know and love over the years.

Visited tonight 2/2 very underwhelmed by the service and food I chose a burger and chips very plain boring frozen chips burger was nice and just a pile of rocket out of a bag only good thing was the burger was made with real meat otherwise flavour was on a par with a cheap pub. Gave our order for sauces which were actually sachets like a cafe. Waitress came for food order then realised nobody had taken a drinks order so took our drinks order with food, waited ages for food and had finished our drinks and had to call a waiter/waitress to order more drinks no attention or checking on tables, when our food arrived no one actually checked to see if everything was ok , had to call someone again to get the bill and clear the plates, apparently we were asked if we wanted deserts but I didn’t hear them. One of the people dining with me asked to take some food home in a takeaway box she then waited 25mins for someone to get one and only after we had reminded them. The bill came but it had all the desserts on from another table which had then been taken off What a shambles. I realised it was about 12years since I’d ate here (fb reminded me) and I was underwhelmed then nothing has changed There are so many wonderful places to eat in Derby this in my opinion isn’t one of them

A super place with superb and friendly staff - home made cooking - good choices - very nice atmosphere - wonderful xmas decorations - parking - golf course - bar and morley hotel on same site

The place was decorated beautifully with Christmas decorations and gorgeous twinkly lights. The food was delicious and the service was excellent. Though 1 waiter never did bring me a spoon ha! Would defo recommend, reasonably priced too. Glad I booked as did seem quite busy

7 of us ate here last night for a special "big" birthday meal. Two of us had the lasagne and we noticed that the prices have gone up and the portion sizes have gone down, & they were child portion lasagnes at that! The lasagne was barely warm and the garlic bread was cold. One of us had the belly pork and there were just two slices and the remainder of the meal was made of up a bowl of salad and a bowl of coleslaw, again for the money paid, not worth it. The lemon tart was inedible as the lemon filling was very hard, but to be fair to MH they did deduct it from the bill when we complained. The vegetables on the two pie dishes were also cold. There was barely any caramel sauce on the two ice creams, again, prices have risen and the amount of sauce was scarce. The hot chocolate was also luke warm. Not the usual standard from Morley Hayes for the rising prices you pay. We will not return.

This is my first time at Morley Hayes and I can honestly say what a wonderful place it is. From driving towards the hotel the Christmas lights are outstanding and the indoor decorations are beautiful also. The staff were 100% attentive even though it was very busy and the drinks and food came out quickly. I can't wait for my next visit.

Always a great venue for a meal whether Roosters or the Dovecote. Last night we celebrated my daughters birthday in Roosters and venue, service and food were as excellent as ever. Staff also very helpfully and thoughtfully supported us with getting a surprise birthday cake to the table. Made the evening even more special for her. Thanks you to all the MH team.

Service was the worst I have ever seen. My food Pork Belly was burnt hard and not edable. We had to ask for drinks, and the bill four times. The food took so long I was ready to leave. I will never go here again. The other people with me I have to say the food was ok and wish I had ordered the same.

A lovely meal with good service. The camembert starter was delicious cooked yo perfection with a lovely hint of garlic. The morley hayes special was as delicious as always. a nice selection of vegetables too which was pleading received abd makes a change from the usual carrots abd peas. The cornflake tart was tasty but had been reheated in the microwave making the pastry case soft and the cornflakes a little chewy. overall, the food and drinks were great. I wish staff would have told the two young girls who were running around to sit down as this spoilt the atmosphere so what is usually a lovely dining experience.

Had a recommendation to visit and was disappointed. A few of the team clearly didn’t want to be there! Not much of an atmosphere, food very average, nothing as expected. Our plates were left on the table after our starter for around 10 minutes with the team constantly passing and looking, we had clearly finished. Would not return which is a shame as we wanted to try the other facilities at Morley Hayes.

This is one of our go to places for my friend and I to do ladies who lunch. We went yesterday (Friday) and whilst it has always been good, I felt a review was necessary. Firstly, whilst we have never, ever had cause to criticise the food, on some occasions the waiting staff have let it down. But not yesterday, the three young (male) waiters were faultless, they were professional, attentive, were able to communicate, but were not invasive. Added to that they were rather easy on the eye!! (We could have probably been their grandmothers). I must also mention the lady who has worked there for quite a long time, who too is excellent. It must be great for her to be working alongside some efficient staff members who genuinely seem to take pride in their jobs - such a refreshing change these days.

Stayed two nights and was disappointed that only one restaurant was opened. Went to Roosters on second evening and it was just about OK. Menu is fairly standard stuff but food was not presented with any imagination or flair. Ploughman’s appeared to have come straight from standard sources no imagination at all. We have had several deliveries from Morley Hayes over the lockdowns and are pleased to be able to eat out again. We like to eat early evening and have had no trouble booking a table. Roosters has lots of new young waiting staff who were polite and efficient. We had salmon, and chilli, both very good, so we have no complaints at all!

One of our party had a pint of lager spilt over her. We were only offered not to be charged for it!? We asked for salt and pepper none arrived. Overall the food was nice and tasty. We had to hunt a member of staff to get our bill. Which had the 3 Camembert and the spilled drink still to be charged. Very poor! Everything took a long time Perhaps it was because we were outside? I don’t know but we will think twice about visiting again!

1st meal out since covid went with friends . We thought Morley Hayes would be the place? On arrival the table was sticky around the edges.. The meals we ordered arrived were poor. The salmon dish consisted of a salmon portion, few carrots and 4 new potatoes which were under cooked, pittiful. The scampi meal consisted of frozen chips, spoon of peas and cheap scampi served with horseradish sauce in error, No garnish! Flat shandy served in Pint glass with crack in glass from top to bottom. Onion tart looked nice but served on a bag of mixed lettuce few tomatos slices of pear and walnuts.. Food did not reflect the prices charged. Extremely disappointing.. Will not be returning to the rooster anytime soon.

Visit here regularly as it’s always been a firm favourite. Hadn’t visited post covid and won’t return in a rush. The food was fine, the manner of the staff were so rude. I understand the pressures with covid etc however Morley hayes seem to be doing a fab job of coping with it. Firstly we arrived and asked for a table, we were asked to scan the track and trace code, usually on my phone I scan with the camera and it brings up the app to check in, the young girl rudely interrupted me saying “you’re on the camera, you need to be on the app!” I explained usually this works for me but I’d had a new phone so had to input my postcode in the app for it to work, the girl just rolled her eyes at me! I do track and trace wherever we go that is not an issue at all, her attitude was appalling. I’ve looked at other reviews below and seen others say the same. We got there early and another one of our party came separately and also received the same treatment… We sat outside in the marquee, the young lad serving us couldn’t have been more attentive. Later when paying the bill we explained we’d like to sit in the sun with some drinks, the lady on the till said I’ve got to take the till off and disappeared. We waited 5 or more minutes until we decided to leave as we hadn’t been served yet. Wouldn’t return in a rush which is a shame as this was one of our favourite restaurants.

The Morley Hayes menu does not differ greatly from year to year, they know what their customers want and they deliver time after time. I was so impressed with the current "Covid" procedures in place, from arrival to leaving it works like clockwork and makes your dining experience so safe and enjoyable, well done to all the staff you are doing a great job.

After having a fantastic takeaway during lockdown we went here for a family meal,we were seated 25 minutes before anyone took even a drinks order,the service was extremely slow,my mother had to send her pasta back as it was cold,the roast dinners were not worth the money,the potatoes were hard as nails as though been warmed up,won't be going again ,what a disappointment

Eight of us (on two tables) came here for lunch today. My inlaws absolutely love coming here and have had many meals in Roosters and The Dovecote.Today the service was appalling. A few of the party had starters; they came in a reasonable time. However we waited ages for our main courses. We were convinced we were forgotten as other people came in, got served and had their meals. After complaining a few times, eventually our dinners came - minus 1 - my mother inlaws. Another ten minutes went by and her dinner came out. The dark haired waitress with glasses came to say it was her fault. The roast dinners (x6) were hardly warm, some of the potatoes were salted and not others and they had a hard skin around proving difficult to eat. The plates also looked a bit sparse. My motherinlaw was too upset to eat all her dinner and especially as the rest of the party had finished their meals,Puddings were ordered and my husband's came without the icecream he had asked for. It came just as he was finishing the pudding. The chicken dinner, icecream and one pudding were taken off the bill but this doesn't make up for the awful service we received.

I have visited Morley Hayes many times for meals, weddings and other occasions, I have also posted very positive reviews reflecting these visits. Unfortunately this time I felt compelled to reflect on a not so good experience. This review has nothing to do with the food which was excellent as always. This is around the “check in” service and the attitude of the member of staff receiving the customers into the restaurant. Our visit was to celebrate the diamond wedding anniversary of two family members. These elderly relatives have not been out socially since the start of the pandemic and were understandably nervous about being out and also the possibility of change to process inside venues. This experience did nothing to allay their fears. We arrived to a queue of people which is okay, we understand that COVID has brought many challenges for all businesses, especially hospitality. That said, customer service should not be less important. The young girl in question gave no eye contact, no acknowledgment to the waiting customers,no apology for the wait. This was followed by an abrupt instruction to use the app. We said that we had done that whilst waiting… “I need to check your phone” was the response. We showed our phones and explained that the elderly people in the group didn’t have phones. Thrusting a form towards them she demanded ” You need to fill this in…. Here at the desk so that I can see” Firstly there was nowhere to actually do this… nowhere to lean the paperwork etc In addition there was no kindness or understanding that elderly people need more time for this. They are often panicked by the unexpected. In this instance the anxiety was compounded by the queue of customers behind combined with a constant flow of people squeezing past due to the one way system back to the restaurant following a visit the toilets. Luckily for our elderly relatives we were on hand to help but I suspect the attitude would’ve been the same regardless. Hopefully this lovely venue will rethink its arrival process and remind the staff of the importance of first impression.
