Romas in Ards

Both chose ham hock sandwich with wholegrain mustard. But what we got was ham hock TERRINE. Never heard of terrine being served as a sandwich. It was so dry and should not have been advertised on the menu as ham hock. Missing word TERRINE. Eaten here several times and this was the worst meal. Also put off by seeing food being handled at serving hatch. Get some gloves or utensils, stop mauling the food and using your phone.

I went to Romas, for a birthday celebration in the function room. The food was very good. The staff were very friendly, attentive and really took care of us. The function room itself was excellent. Everybody I spoke to at the function had great time.

All our courses were beautifully cooked and presented a really high quality experience, can't recommend here enough, we will definitely be back.

We had a lovely girl look after us called Natalie she was very attentive and very pleasant, there was nothing that was an issue, I must say first class service from this young lady

Food excellent. Just too busy and therefore slow to get drinks, but pre Christmas which may have been the issue.

I booked this online for a Boxing Day treat with my wife and daughter. We arrived on time and were directed to a table beside the bar. After sitting for 20 minutes I had to go to the bar and ask if someone was coming to take our order, this was met with “where are you sitting?” I pointed and told him I was where he had put us. We ordered and 45 minutes later our food arrived. The noise was getting progressively louder as the people at the bar had obviously been there for quite a while and were probably there for the night. Three other girls were put at a table behind us and again they were only there for drinks, they also got louder to compete with the noise at the bar. The food, when it did arrive was very poor to average, we decided we were not going to stay for dessert as we couldn’t wait to leave the place. I thought the bar would have been somewhere to wait and have a drink before being seated, instead it was like eating in a public bar. This was not what I had hoped for on Boxing Day and must admit I will not be in a hurry to return for food, but it might be ok for a lads night out!

Been here a few times over the past couple of years- So much to choose from on the menu- always very impressed- Always go back to the Sizzlers, chicken or beef- only negative is they stopped doing the Teriyaki sauce- but Thai sweet chilli or creamy pepper sauce are still very good. Great choice of sides. Thursday night is obviously best night to go for Sizzler night. Staff always friendly. Defo be back

I visited This fabulous restaurant Thursday night with 7 friends and again today with 12 mates all loved the food and considering it was a full house the staff where fabulous highly recommend this establishment

We booked the upstairs room for a 60th birthday party. The room itself is lovely and very spacious. The bar staff were amazing all night and so friendly and helpful, they even put cartoons onto the big TV in the adjoining side room to amuse the younger children which was a great idea and much appreciated by the parents. We had buffet style food which there was plenty of and it tasted great! Would highly recommend this venue for a party and would like to thank Johnny and the other barman also on that night for helping make it a great night.

We stopped on the way home today from Legenderry and it was lovely. The menu had lots of food options, the staff was lovely and it was amazing to see it so busy on a Monday evening. A brilliant spot with tasty food options and a brilliant atmosphere.

Only reason I am giving a 4 for service is because it was a little slow. However for those not in a rush, it won’t matter. The food was worth the wait and the restaurant has a lovely atmosphere.

First time visiting Romas. Restaurant was bright and warm. Staff very friendly and helpful. We ordered a steak burger and chicken burger, both very nice, the jam relish was really good.

Great night in Romas. Food was amazing and the staff were so helpful and friendly. I got the steak sizzler and fruit pavlova. Portions are so good. You won't leave hungry 🤩🤩

I cannot recommend this venue for a private event. The upstairs new cocktail lounge is perfect for any event. We celebrated our fathers 80 th birthday, which was fantastic, the staff were amazing, the food laid on was delicious and they even went to the trouble of supplying the children colouring books and crayons. It would be hard to find any where nicer.

My husband and myself love Romas and had a beautiful meal about 3 weeks ago. I booked a table for 5 for my daughter's 21st on 26 August and we ordered 2 soup of the day which was mushroom and truffle, we received broccoli, ginger and garlic but we ate it anyway. Our mains were okay but when ordering desserts I told the waitress we wanted a pavlova and 2 sticky toffee puddings only for her to say oh slow down there. So I let her write it down and asked for a latte. We received our desserts, the waitress walked by a couple of and then said oh forgot your latte! I never received the latte but it was on the bill which I promptly told them I never received and it was removed but the whole visit was rushed and messy. A pity really.

Uncooked chips, overcooked chicken goujons and a lasagne that would have only been acceptable if it was a ready meal out of Iceland. Complained to a waitress and she wasn't interested. Won't be back

Scampi was overdone and the Waitress was quite rude and then ignored us ,had to ask for the bill twice and then after another 10mins had to ask for the card machine

Stopped in and had a great lunch food was lovely would stop again if passing.

The room upstairs was booked for a retirement party and was a great venue. Bar staff were fantastic. Plenty of room for a boogie. Easy on street parking outside and opposite Romas. Loved it.

We had a fantastic time at Romas for our granddaughters 18th birthday party. We were in the newly refurbished upstairs restaurant . The finger buffet was excellent. We had some vegetarian guests who were well catered for. Hazel and the team were brilliant.. they looked after us very well. Feedback from all our guests was very positive we had a great time . Our granddaughter had an amazing time. I would highly recommend Romas

Honestly couldn't fault Romas. Food soooo tasty and great value for money; staff are friendly, efficient and just the best; atmosphere is second to none. Just love this place... oh and the cocktails are pretty awesome too!!

Very disappointed as half of the tables were empty when I arrived to have dinner? They turned us away and told me hey were fully booked considering i had phoned earlier and they said they had free tables. I'm food critic and professional chef and I'll be informing my professional colleagues and my business friends not to eat in romas ever and the attitude of the the staff were blunt and rude and I was insulted too.

This is our 4th visit as ever other time we were pleased with the food, but not today. Both of us ordered lasagne- we had to send it back after a few mouthfuls as it was far too salty. Neither of us take salt but this was inedible. The waitress took it away & we ordered chicken goujons . When they arrived they too tasted of salt. We didn’t complain this time but I suggest the chef is over generous with the salting of food. Really disappointing. Furthermore when the bill arrived they charged us for 1 lasagne & 2 goujons. They did adjust it but no real apology or free drink. For this reason we’ll not be rushing back or recommending.

Great food, had the steak, and it was lovely. Had the pavaloia for dessert beautiful. Couldn't fault the service. Me u was great lots to choose from.

A big thank you to Romas staff and management who were outstanding when we hired the upstairs newly referbished restaurant on the 12 July 2023.The food for the return reception was second to none. We will definitely return in the near future. .

Got a table for 4 and cost just under £150 which was not worth it at all. The food was dry and the chicken wings tasted like plastic along with the service being awful. Won’t be going back any time soon

NO SAFE PROCEDURES IN PLACE FOR SEVERE ALLERGY SUFFERERS Start with the worst - a mum of two (toddler and baby) attended in our party and informed serving staff that both have dairy allergy when ordering our food. The mum is a breastfeeding mum (on holiday) and has been avoiding dairy in the time spent with us so as not to pass diary onto her baby through her breast milk. The toddler cannot take dairy now that she is on solid food. Unfortunately for us, the vegan meal was served with carrots tossed/cooked in butter, (which in itself should not have occurred given this was ordered as part of a vegan meal), but which was only noticed at the end of the meal after the toddler started to break out in hives. Having been spoken to separately by waiting staff, chef and management, the only recompense was apologies and 20% off the food bill. The serving staff said a note had been made on the docket and the chef said he had been too busy to notice - note this was a Tuesday evening at 5.30 and the restaurant was only about half full. Words are cheap and had the toddler suffered a severe reaction that may have required ambulance attendance, the 20% off the food bill would have done little to recompense our family. Thankfully the parents were quick to administer medication. We recommend that the restaurant respond to this review about how their procedures are to be changed to ensure someone else does not suffer more seriously than we did. Thankfully the parents had the correct medication and epi-pen with them. The attitude and culture to responding to this incident was all wrong. By consequence, the kitchen is at worst negligent and disrespectful - and at best, careless. I would not trust this kitchen with taking adequate respect over anyone's food allergies, intolerances or avoidances, particularly as the vegan meal was served with butter. Food - 1* due to the above and while some of us enjoyed our food around the table, the vegan option was noted to have little taste from the vegetables. Service - 3* waiting staff attentive and polite, but again didn't seem trained on how to handle our incident and were keen to pass the blame of communication to the kitchen. Atmosphere - 3 - nothing notable. We were escorted to a comfortable set of tables for our party size, but we left feeling angry and let-down by the response and lack of consideration for our allergy sufferers.

I ordered Scampi, it was nice but could have been more crispy plus it was served with some strange tasting mayonnaise?? Scampi should always be served with tartar sauce, anything else is sacrilege. I ask for tartar sauce, what I was given was obviously out of a sachet and disgusting. I won't be back in a hurry, menu obviously has been changed and not for the better.

Me and the girls went to Romas last Friday and the food, drinks and service were first class. The cocktails are delicious and so was the tall, dark and extremely handsome bar man making and serving them. I will go back for him alone 😍😍 He knew and recommended the menu well and looked after everything well!

Took friends to Roma's unfortunately the overall experience was not great food average, service poor

Initially went for the roast beef and rich gravy which friends had told us about,but disappointed it was not on the menu the Tuesday we visited. Did,nt fancy any of the specials so we opted for the chilli chicken and lasagne from the main menu followed by rather large portions of pavlova.One of the better places to eat and drink in Newtownards,clean with nice decor good food and service but not the cheapest.Will be back another time but will telephone to make sure the roast beef it on.

The very best service with every visit. The place has such a nice atmosphere and you’re able to enjoy your food with not too much going on around you. Anytime I have visited my food has been super tasty and actually served warm! I always go for the veggie/vegan curried cauliflower burger which never fails to hit! The staff are honestly all lovely, especially Taylor!! Not only good food, but they also do pretty good cocktails and gin and lemonades.

Took 45-50 minutes from food order to receiving. Apology received. 2 roast beef meals I think should have had Yorkshire pudding ,but none on the plate. Otherwise food was fine.

I've being going to romas for a long time and I have to say I'm so disappointed, the food used to be really good, but the last couple of years it's gone down hill. My partner even became sick after eating a sizzler from here. It was a big let down and unfortunately we won't be back as the quality of food needs improved or they need a new chef. So disappointing

Christmas party with work. Food was excellent for a Christmas dinner. Some of the staff were lovely, others clearly not enjoying the season. But it was packed and everyone seemed to be having a great time.

Normally my daughter and I go here to eat at least twice a month. We take my elderly father as this is his favourite. We have never in 20 years have had a bad meal until today. We ordered 2 well done steak sandwiches..so the time they came to us was great, however my daughter is 8 months pregnant and cannot eat raw to medium steak..so we sent it back. When it returned it appeared to have been just re seared..she cut into it ..RAW..totally disappointed..however it did not end there..1/2 of my steak wasn't cooked to order either. 3rd time she was able to eat. I have never been so disappointed in romas. However they made sure they charged me the full price of 2 inadequate meals.. won't be back any time soon

Went for a meal with my partner and son. The food was exceptional the atmosphere was relaxing and the service was perfect best experience we have had eating out in a long time. Thank you Romas will definitely be back

Long time since I had been here as I had a very average service a while ago. Decided to try it again as it is under new management as far as I know. Everything was very good including the menu. I personally got the Gammon and it was excellent. My mother was with me and she had Chicken Gougons far too many for her to eat. Wouldn't think twice of going back again.

First time here for food and I must say our evening was fab. Excellent service by Jessica & Tristan. Food delightful. Vibe uplifting. Thanks team Roma's for a fantastic night we will be back. Oh and the entertainment fab after dinner

Three friends and I had our first experience of Romas last night, Monday 24/10/2022. Not one of us could find fault with anything. Food was of exceptional quality, service was fantastic, staff were very tuned in, attentive and friendly, wide range of alcohol and soft drinks plus prices where very reasonable. As a local, Romas has always been a favourite of mine. Although the service I received today was shocking. The 'host' or manager, whatever she is to be called was rude from the moment we walked in the door....she didn't even lift her head to speak to us when we arrived, simply said 'table booked?' And continued looking at her laptop. The way she then spoke to a young member of staff was so rude and inappropriate in front of customers. Dictating she take us to a seat and was rude in the way she demanded she give is the menus 1st. Just plain rude and ignorant. Thankfully the food was delicious but she then continued with her attitude when I went to pay the bill! I presented my Perks card and without any pleasantries or apologies, she went on to tell me the perks card will be 'done away with' but as off right now, Romas are a listed venue on the perks website. She then said 'I suppose I'll accept it on this occasion.' Totally rude and clearly not someone who should be working in the hospitality industry!

Had prawn amd cocktail starter, seafood tagliatelle for main and within 30 minutes I couldn't get of the toilet. Also misses drink orders and the staff didn't seem very interested in paying attention to table
