Roebuck in Richmond upon Thames

I went into the Roebuck whilst I was staying in the Hotel next door.. It is quite a historic pub as it has been open for centuries. There is a lovely atmosphere as soon as you walk in. I had the steak and ale pie which was absolutely delicious. I found that the staff were all so friendly and helpful. I will definitely be going back there again when I am next back in the area.

ロンドンに行く時はリッチモンドでテムズ川を眺めながらビールを飲むのが楽しみ。 今回はハンプトンコートの帰りにバスで寄りま した。 こちらのお店は知り合いに聞いて初めて行きましたが、ビールを買って前の公園でテムズを見ながら飲みました。美味しかった！ そういう人も多いのか、テイクアウトのビールはプラスチックの容器に入れてくれます。ビールだけでも、スタッフの方はとても感じ良く、お店の雰囲気も良いので次回は店内で食事もしたいです。

Excellent Pub run by Excellent staff serving excellent food. I also enjoyed drinking beer from a glass outside the front, the other side of the road. So rare to enjoy beer from the glass with a view. 1910 photo of The Terrace attached.

Very efficient and friendly service in a pub with a lovely atmosphere, of several smaller rooms/areas rather than one large open-plan area - lots of wood and interesting historical photos on the wall. There is a view to die for looking down towards the Thames. The main course are a good size, and reasonably priced. It has all the signs of a very professional and well-run outfit!

Absolutely fab pub , nice friendly staff (Elisha was brilliant) and a good price. Could not ask for more, will be back next year for sure!

We booked into hotel up the road ,googled to see what was around found the pub. As it's a Friday nite didn't expect to be able to find a table. Made a call spoke with Alisha she told us to come & ash for her. Managed to fit us in on a very busy night queue in out of the door for take away drinks to sit opposite looking over the river. Fantastic food worth the travel from north east of England just for the steak pie!!! Very friendly & nothing to much trouble on a busy night.thank you guys 🍻🍻

Nice pub and location but spoiled by surly and uninterested service by lady behind the bar who also made up drinks with ice and lemon without asking. Will not rush to return. Much prefer the Victoria Inn on Hill Rise

Best Pub in London. We live locally in Kew and we must say this is the best pub in Richmond/Kew. More than the iconic views from the pub, the service/opulence is second to none. After walking into Richmond and realising how busy everywhere was we opted to venture up the hill. Welcomed and sorted with a table even though the place was a buzz with happy guests. Opted for the chicken roast - the price for Richmond was very reasonable in fact anywhere in Surrey tbh! French trimmed and serve hot with a huge Yorkshire pud and perfectly cooked vegetable. Extra gravy was requested as it was delicious. Very happy and we’ll be back soon. One other point, actually two… Warm and cosy feel to the place and it felt like a well oiled machine. Well done guys

Never been to the Roebuck before but very pleased we did the staff are great friendly and helpful. The pub was packed but they still managed to get us a table mid afternoon. We didnt eat as we were meeting people for a few drinks. As i said the service was excellent and nothing seemed to much trouble. Will be back to visit sooner than later.

La dame derrière le comptoir à été un longue à la détente mais m’a finalement trouvé une table libre dans une salle presque totalement occupée ou réservée, ce qui est bon signe Clientèle totalement locale, bon choix de bières à la pression. Great location, we luckily had window table with the fantastic view from its Richmond Hill location.Very busy, but the waitresses were on the ball, menu we ok, not extensive, but adequate. The goodness freshly cooked and well presented, and not ridiculously priced either.Would definitely recommend if your in the area. It’s also very close to Richmond Park.Alex.

We live in Richmond hill. Everything on Richmond hill is amazing. The red here is disgusting pardon my French, the cider is cheap and the food is absolutely disgraceful. It’s embarrassing for the American university and visitors generally to come to Richmond hill view to have experience this in one of the best located pubs in london maybe even the world. The owners need to wake up!

Tonight was just so disappointing. The pub seems to be completely focused in its take away sales. People pour in from the park opposite, ine up and get prompt service. Meanwhile, us silly diners seated a metre away can' t find anyone to come take the initial order and any follow up drinks! Frustrating. I genuinely considered lining up amd then asking them to deliver drinks to the table. We ordered 2 x fish and chips. Both wete overcooked as you will see from the photos. We both ended up eating and sharing my fish as it was moist and tasty. The second serve was dry and chewy. The atmosphere and fedl of the pub is 5 star. This place should be kicking it out of the park. I recommend you get a new manager and let this place shine ad it should! We won't be rushing back!

Was expecting more from this pub, excellent location and good surroundings. The food was average and was expecting more from Greene KIng. No aspalls cider , no mushroom pie and the fish batter came out over cooked and slightly burnt. Under par food at London prices in a great location.

The staff at this establishment are wonderful at providing an exceptional service. Ask for Georgina and Alicjia if you want to choose the right wine for a dish or if you want friendly advice on which beverage to go for.

My wife and I, called into the Roebuck the afternoon/early evening, of England's game against Germany in the Euro's. Unfortunately, the TV area was full, and due to COVID restrictions we couldn't be allowed to squeeze up a seat to watch the game. My wife and I opted to have a meal and a few drinks, which I'm glad we did. The staff were very friendly, the food was amazing, fresh and delicious. I have travelled the country, because of the nature of my work, and have been doing so for over twenty years, eating in many public houses across the UK. In my opinion, this is the best pub food I have ever had, by far! My wife and I, highly recommend the Roebuck, the food certainly made up for missing the match, and do you know what? A very good Sunday lunch, sat upstairs on the 1st floor. Service from our waitress was spot on, she really was excellent. Great pint of abbot ale. Very nice deserts. All in all a super offering and we will be back for sure. Thanks to the team for looking after us

You could not wish for a more friendly, and well run, pub during Covid times! Just queuing for drinks and to use the loos was a pleasure and then you get to sit with glorious views! The Roebuck even came round to ensure there was no litter. Such wonderful people and service!

My partner and I recently attended the Roebuck for their Festive meal and I can honestly say that this was the BEST Christmas dinner I have ever had (leaving aside my Mother’s, of course!!)The staff were welcoming, friendly and efficient and all 3 courses were excellent!! We particularly welcomed the offer to wait a while before having the dessert course - a reflection of the very generous servings!!The Covid arrangements were very good and we felt safe. Came here today for lunch but the atrocious jobsworth of a woman on the door too lazy to stand and very rude was enough to realise this is one place to definitely avoid!

5* We went there (11.10.2020) after a long day in Richmond park. The lady who gave us a lovely table upstairs was so kind, accommodating (and beautiful:) ).Two of us ordered fish and chips, my other friend ordered soup and fries and everything was yummy all staff were working very hard, and they were very attentive,we felt very well looked after. I believe many people do not understand how difficult it is to provide an enjoyable dining experience in this challenging COVID situation and how many rules restaurant and pub staff have to keep in mind. Parked for free in Richmond Park and walked the short distance to The Roebuck.You can book a table on the app and check in with the app too. Sadly no tables, but we ordered and paid for our takeout food at the bar. They took our mobile and what seemed like minutes they rang to say our food was ready. We collected it at the door and sat loverlooking the Thames on the benches across the road. Such a beautiful setting and even saw lots of squirells playing In the trees.The food was beautifully presented in boxes, with sachets of everything required and plastic knives and forks. A great Covid secure experience. Staff are incredibly friendly and professional.

Went to this pub for a quick pint on Saturday. The pub has fantastic views and our intention was to sit outside, however it got a bit cold so we decided to sit inside the pub to finish off our pints. The pub was a third full and we were told that we couldn't sit inside as all of the many empty tables were booked for 30-45 mins time and they would have to sanitize them down again. Whilst I understand and respect the covid rules and regulations, no common sense was applied to this situation. The staff could easily have allowed us to sit at a table for 15 minutes to finish less than half a pint and still wipe it down for the next booking 45 minutes later. The girl working at the door was rather abrupt, unhelpful, and unwilling to apply common sense. It's a shame as the roebuck is a lovely pub with fantastic views but is let down by its staff.

We really enjoyed this pub. We were staying at the Richmond Hill Hotel for the weekend, a few minutes walk away. My first helpful hint is make a booking. We tried to have lunch during the day but without a booking, it was not possible. Fortunately a table was available for dinner. Super service. Cozy pub atmosphere. Typical menu and for me, a vegan mushroom pie was available so I was happy. Very reasonable prices. If you are coming from Richmond station, it is about a 20-25 minute through the shops and up the hill. The pub does sell take away drinks and food. This is a great idea as you can wander across the road, sit on one of the many seats and enjoy the superb views. Thoroughly enjoyed discovering this place. Recommended.

I booked the pub for a birthday trip with my partner and some friends. I chose the pub specifically because it had a gluten free menu and thought that would make the ordering process easier. I called up to check they could cater for Coeliacs before booking online, writing a note of ‘1 gluten free diner’ on my booking.When we arrived 5minutes earlier than our friends we were being rushed to order food, even though we told them twice we had others joining us but would like to order a drink. No drinks menu came.I asked for the gluten free menu which was basic but still pleased it was there. I opted for the steak with baked potato and a bernaise sauce. I initially asked if I could swap the baked potato for mash but was told this would then not be gluten free (I’m not really sure why).So I went with the baked potato and asked the waitress to specifically tell the chef I was a Coeliac.My food arrived with onion rings and gravy, which were not listed on the menu, so I asked the waitress to double check if they were gluten free. They were not. So I had to send back my food. Mean while the rest of our table were tucking into a yummy looking roast.When my food did come out, there was no sauce. We asked for it to be brought out but given everyone at the table was nearly finished eating, I started.I had already finished my meal when The jug of sauce was brought out by a different waiter saying he’d found it in the lift and it must have been forgotten.We stayed a good few hours ordering drinks. When it came to paying nothing had been said about my shambolic meal so I decided to speak to the manager. She claimed to have remembered my call and the note on my booking.She was very nice and agreed to take the cost of my meal off and a glass of wine.However my feeling of disappointment by the lack of education for staff has stuck with me. I went out of my way to find somewhere I’d feel safe and comfortable eating, I couldn’t have been more proactive of informing them of my allergy, with calling before, writing a note online and at the point of ordering. If someone was less aware it could lead to a severe incident. It left me feeling embarrassed and left out when my friends were able to enjoy their meal.

First time visiting a pub since the pandemic and was very impressed with the service from having to scan your details via your phone,being shown to your table all socially distance,, food now there's not much on the menu no sandwiches, baguettes or jacket potatoes but hubby and I shared a platter lovely and hot,staff were well trained pity I did not get their names.

Waited in a queue to go in & continue to queue inside the pub, of course we are all expecting this due to social distancing, what we were not expecting was the lack of communication & professionalism from staff. People were jumping in who were sat inside the pub, the member of staff on the door was busy chatting to someone instead of organising who was next in, and to top it off after 20 minutes finally getting to the bar, was informed there was no lager on tap!! Perhaps they should tell the queue of thirsty customers outside before this so they can buy it from Sainsbury’s round the corner for less! Not pleased with the lack of care & what felt like a bit of a sassy attitude from staff. Don’t bother!!

The best thing about this pub is the unique ability to take your pint across the street to sit on the terrace overlooking the famous Turner View from exactly the angle the painter painted it.I guess he would also have had a pint or two when painting....given his artistic expressions! Probably straight from the Roebuck, which was already around at the time!Very nice and personal owners, not completely overdecorated during the recent renovation (even though we miss the original sign!).Great spot!

This place is extremely popular. We went there for Sunday lunch - it was packed and we were very lucky to get a table, as we hadn't booked. It was a long wait but the food was worth waiting for. The traditional bangers and mash, with greens and caramelized onion gravy. Delicious. We visited in the winter but on a warmer day it would be lovely to sit outside and admire the wonderful view.

Eat regularly at the Roebuck and never usually disappointed. Today however my friend and I ordered the fish and chips very disappointed not up to the usual standard. The plate was cold as was the chips. When the table was cleared we told the waiter who didn’t appear to be interested. Went to lay mentioned it again not even a gesture of a cup of coffee on the house. Will think twice about eating there again.

Turned up with no reservation and managed to grab a table, like gold dust! Very popular with locals and visitors, food was great.

The pub here is lovely, the prices are reasonable and the food looks wonderful, but what really made this pub exceptional was the landlord and his team. It was our first visit but we were treated like old friends, chatted to, and looked after like royalty. Popped in the Roebuck on arrival in Richmond for our stay at the Richmond Hill Hotel. Didn’t expect too much as we just picked the closest place to the hotel, but was pleasantly surprised. There was a warm welcome and a lovely cozy feel to the place.My husband really enjoyed the steak pie and sticky toffee pudding. I had the super salad with chicken, everything was very flavoursome.Beautiful sunset from the window looking out across the river.We are staying for 4 days and will certainly pop back in.

Very pleasant lunch with friends (group of 6)in this recently spruced up pub on the hill. Staff were very friendly and welcoming. Well worth reserving a table as it was packed by the time we left. Great selection of local real ales. Most of us went for the Sunday roast turkey and trimmings. Very good although I’m not sure the giant Yorkshire is necessary. Everything well cooked and served hot. We only had a short wait - our compliments to the kitchen team - they must have been in overdrive to keep the place fed.So in summary, I’d definitely recommend The Roebuck for Sunday lunch, especially on a cold blustery day. We found this pub by accident late on a Friday and dropped in for a few drinks and something to eat. Nice choice of real ales when we visited food was good and not exspnsive. The pub had recently been refused. Very pleasant and would use again.

This pub is blessed with a great location with stunning views. That may be the reason that its busy - so busy at the time I visited the queue for service was nearly at the door. I expected so much more. The food was average but over priced. We all know that serving food in a rustic way may work. On a tray, in a bucket, oddly shaped platters anything goes. My chips were served in a small cup lined with paper. 17 chips or rather 17 French fries. Simply not good enough. Prime location with great views shouldn't mean that the next customer is guaranteed. School report - could do so much better.

A group of 8 of us had lunch here on a Saturday lunch time. The pub was busy but not exceptionally so. We ordered our food ranging from a toasted sandwich to full meals. It took about 20-25 mins for the food to arrive and they had missed one so one had to wait a further 10 minutes.

I've been visiting this pub for 40 years as it's close to my workplace. The selection of real ales is excellent, but the best feature is the spectacular view from Richmond Terrace over the Thames and surrounding countryside. The perfect place for a drink after a walk in beautiful Richmond Park.

After long walks through Richmond Park, the Roebuck has always been a steadfast and reliable pub. Both food and beers, which can be taken out to the terrace overlooking the magnificent view of Richmond Hill, have always delighted and at a fair and good value.

Used to come here for drinks about 30 years ago. Park in the park and walk through. Found ourselves here yesterday after doing a 3 mile walk round the National Trust trail. Just as we remembered. Got a drink (didn’t eat) but got a bench across the road with the amazing view of the Thames. Service was fantastic - it was busy probably due to the weather but was pleased to see a lot of bar staff serving. Our bar man (I didn’t get his name) was lovely, very professional. I took our glasses back across when we had finished and he seemed genuinely surprised I had done so. Thank you all it brought back lots of happy memories. Great to see you are still going strong.

Visited this place for many many times. Great pub with the best Richmond hill and Thames just across the door. Great food for sure. Tried the lasagna, Sunday Roast and the steak, so good and comforting. It can get busy during summer nights, people are in line to enjoy some bubblies and superb sunset. Overall very recommended!

We have family who speak highly of the Roebuck, so on staying at a hotel very close by over the weekend we enjoyed two visits. Due to the weather on both days we didn't take our drinks across the road to the benches (means we will have to revisit again to do so!) but this meant we got to enjoy the inside of this beautiful old pub. Lovely staff, good selection of drinks (Pimms perfectly served) and food good pub quality.

If your idea of a perfect afternoon involves sitting on outside bench with good friends staring over spectacular London views and sipping cool pale ale then nirvana can wait - its already here !

As it was a beautiful sunny day, we just ordered drinks and took them over the benches across the road to take in the beautiful views. But the staff we dealt with were very friendly, the beers were cold and reasonably priced and when we came inside to use the bathroom before leaving, we both thought that the pub was absolutely lovely inside and we would certainly like to return.

we visited the Roebuck for some drinks with family and freinds friday 12/07/2019 for a celebratory drink and then decied to have something to eat (what a mistake) the food was not very good but the staff were damm right rude ! we were even told to just eat ! i would not recomend this establishment to anyone let only the tourist who may wish to visit because of the stunning views , dont bother this is not what britsih hospitatlity is about !! sack the rude staff and manager.

On 12 July my husband and two sons went to the Roebuck to celebrate the birthday of one of the family. One of my sons played the fruit machine and won some money but the machine only paid out £10.00, this was reported to the bar staff who said “as there are no cameras there we can’t prove it!!!!!! They then said that they would come over and take his details, but this did not happen. When the meal came up we asked again when they were going to deal with this and the waisted said “we have no control over the machine and that we would have to wait”. He then ordered us to pass the empties to him and “just eat”!!! In other words we were treated with utter contempt. We were furious. The meal was also very disappointing. My husband and I are in our seventies and do not go out looking for trouble, we were looking forward to a nice evening our sons.

From the moment you step inside you are made to feel very welcome Ailise makes sure of that. Whatever she is being paid isn't enough.

Got served by a lovely lad called Dominic. He was so pleased and helpful. Would 100% come back here when I’m next in the area! Thank you 🙏
