Rockfish in Plymouth

We got the fish fry which looked like scraps and discarded pieces of other dishes plus the portion was half a plate for £24. Never that place again.

Overpriced ,£39;95 lemon sole REALLY !!!not much choice when we went. Order arrived without chips and salad. Girlfriend had eaten half the fish before salad arrived. Daughter unimpressed with chicken. Haddock was nice but the experience didn't match the price .

Nice but a bit pricey, was a little quiet the night we were there.

Enjoyed a wonderful meal here. Having visited a Rockfish at a different location, we knew what to expect and not disappointed. We hadn't booked ahead and staff helpful in finding a free table. I opted for the fish tacos with my husband choosing the Megrim, both being delicious. Staff were very attentive and friendly at all times. Decent portion sizes and we didn't need dessert.

Food took over an hour to come out. Very disappointed

The customer service at this restaurant was fantastic, the waitress who took care of my experience was professional, well mannered and eager to ensure I had the best experience. I visited on a Monday night so it was relatively quiet, but the restaurant has a lovely feeling and design with plenty to look at and take in, including an open kitchen. The food is fantastic quality, I enjoyed every part of it. The only fault I found was that the scallops hadn't been thoroughly cleaned and still retained a significant amount of grit/ sand which couldn't be ignored. The rest of my food was perfect with anchovy butter appertiser being my personal favourite with the light flavour of fish and strong saltyness on the crusty baguette. The servers are well trained and memorised all of the specials available for the day including the accompaniment and prices (see image where the hostess has marked the table cover) this is a simple and unique way to explain the specials.

This spot is great for a casual night Out with friends. Good location around Barbican for drinks. Staff really friendly. Serves good food- can get quite busy later at night. Main bar area small although outside seating area and extension seating inside.

Amazing choice of fresh today caught local fish. Had the monk fish scampi and gurnard. Food was delicious and the service amazing (thanks Grace). Will hopefully be back again.

Visited the National marine aquarium next door and thought we'd get a bite to eat afterwards...seafood of course!. Amazing lunch deal highly recommended. Tip top service from Kassie! All in all friendly welcome, delicious seafood and a very good price. Spot on!

This fish restaurant was a delight from start to finish. All the staff were so knowledgeable and professional, and this is before I mention the food. I had a catch of the day (pollock) I will simply say at 60+ years this was the best fish dinner I have ever had. Simple beautiful! Special mention must go to Nicola who made our afternoon just so special and unique, a credit to the restaurant. Unquestionably a 5 star experience!

Really nice sitting outside and eating really nice fish and chips. On selected Fridays there is a fish and chips special for only £3, excellent quality and value. The Friday deal is now £5 for haddock and chips, half price meal and excellent quality and value. Now the traditional Friday is on a Tuesday, absolutely excellent as always.

Delicious fresh fish & chips - generous, portion of crispy battered hake - nicely presented - our party was made to feel very welcome by our waitress Abi who was super attentive monitoring the pace and interruptions that a baby and toddlers can inflict at a mealtime! - very efficient service and relaxed environment.

This should be one of the best seafood restaurants in the UK. We love seafood very much, and the chefs at the Rockfish restaurant really understand how to cook every fish that makes the most in texture and favour, never overcooked or over seasoning, just right and perfect. We dine out here 2 times during our 3 days trip, and we really enjoy it.

We had such a fantastic meal here. The welcome and service were great, and the food was cooked to perfection. Our kids loved that you could choose the fish and the sides, and ate the healthiest meal they’d had out all half term! The tarte tatin and sticky toffee puddings were also perfect. Would highly recommend

Absolutely excellent food - we’ve been about 5 times and there’s so much of interest on the menu. Fish and chips are excellent but the other fish - eg grilled gurnard with romanesco sauce - delightful. Service perfect - very friendly and on point. The kids’ free fish and chips, and the free chips refills, make it an unbelievable bargain. Setting is casual. High quality, fresh, fully recommend.

Excellent lunch for our daughters 6th birthday. Very well looked after by Jen and the Rockfish team and they did an excellent job with our birthday cake. Will be back soon.

Visited here before the aquarium with our 1 year old. It was a Thursday lunch time, bang on opening time (12) so very quiet to start with which was excellent as we could walk around with our little one without feeling in the way. Staff were really friendly, food was excellent quality, there were loads of options on the freshly caught range plus free fish & chips for our son was a bonus! Would definitely recommend & will eat here again. Thank you!

Stopped for a light lunch after visiting the Plymouth Aquarium. Adults had beautiful and tasty muscles whilst my grandson had fish and chips. Tried the fish which was delicious as were the chips. Must mention the very clean toilets and helpful staff. Will definitely go again for a full meal in the future.

The manager who served us was faultless, as I am coeliac I have had a fair share of poor experiences. However, the waiting staff couldn’t have been more attentive and informative about the food processes. We will definitely be going back.

Really expensive for the amount and quality of food we had. Drinks prices high too. Unfortunately, we wouldn't go back unless they lower their prices, review portions and the quality.

The food was delicious. Our main server was nice but everyone else made us feel ignored and they were quite rude when providing our food, no eye contact, no answer to our question about what we ordered and put the other starter on the other side of the table. Asked for refill on fries and we waited 20 minutes and decided to give up and get the bill instead. Overall fantastic food, poor service.

Rockfish Plymouth fails to impress with abysmal service and disappointing dishes. A staggering 50-minute wait for starters sets the tone, only to be met with scallops filled with sand and calamari devoid of any actual meat. Leaving our own anniversary dinner was the regretful conclusion...

Being winter on the harbour front - cold, grey, wet and windy - I wasn't sure how inviting the Rockfish restaurant would be. It turned out to be exceptional! An extensive, impressive and imaginative menu, knowledgeably explained and served by two of the most engaging and charming youg women - Abigail and Perri. This is amongst the best fish restaurants I have ever visited.

The restaurant and the staff were excellent and very accommodating. Great atmosphere and exceptional food. I’m looking forward to taking the family to Rockfish again.

It was a pleasant restaurant with an element of being a fancy fish and chip shop but the prices were extortionate! The fish was fresh and well cooked but £20 for a medium sized piece of hake was ridiculous and £3.50 for a very small...

No, just no! First of all, fish and chips are freezing! And staff were handling raw fish with no gloves then fingering the plates and cutlery. The staff are quite rude, and upset some child. I wouldnt reccomend.

A bit disappointed, table booked for 7pm, but had already run out of dishes, so menu quite restricted. Small portion of fish, but loads of chips. I would not visit again.

Best fish and chips ever!!!! Quality all the way!!! Expensive but worth every penny!!! I’m a fisherman and certainly know when a fish chef knows how to deliver a well cooked fish!!! My partner is fussy but will have no hesitation going back!!!

Oh dear! This used to be my favourite fish restaurant but with a change of menu and a change of staff, it's really gone down, though the prices have gone up. It's sadly not what it used to be.

Superb seafood, beautifully prepared and presented.

Recently visited Rockfish for the first time and was very impressed. Visited particularly as I really enjoy Hake as opposed to Cod or Haddock. The Hake was cooked beautifully and the endless chips were great too. We also had a 12oz Haddock which was great too Staff were really friendly and attentive and the cost was quite reasonable too

Excellent staff, brilliant food. Couldn’t recommend enough! I’m really impressed with waitress knowledgeable on the food and the hospitality, you can tell these are professionals.

Amazing food, everything was so fresh, brilliant atmosphere with lovely views and the service was amazing. Specifically enjoyed the monkish tail and the jalapeño tartare which I discovered that they make in house… delicious! Also the best curry sauce for chips I’ve ever tried. Will definitely be back.

Came here a few year ago and wasn’t keen. Came back today and the food was insane so was the service from Abi the manager. Can’t wait for our next trip

Dreadful, overpriced and disappointing food. Has to wait far too long for the food to be brought to us, and even though we were the largest table in the ( souless ) place no waitress came to check on us for the duration. The Barbican has far better to offer so keep on the southside side of the bridge.

A lovely meal, great atmosphere

This restaurant has always served good fish at a fair price and the food and wine has always been good and we have regularly visited it over the years with family and friends. We last went to this restaurant about a year ago we walked by today and thought we’d try it again for lunch. This review is not a reflection on the staff just value for money This is what we had: To start We shared one piece of mackerel which was a main dish but between two of us we had it as a starter there was just the fish on the plate the waitress said we could have the salad that goes with it with our main course if we wanted (which we did) First Main Small Monk fish tail in two pieces on the plate not a lot of meat on it and a slice of lemon it was smothered and dripping in butter Second Main Hake again just the fish on the plate with a slice of lemon One tiny portion of chips Small bowl of new potatoes Small bowl of green leaves with two tiny pieces of cucumber smothered in butter Half a bottle of French Sauvignon wine The total bill was £97 which we wouldn’t have minded paying if it was fantastic however it’s not value for money at all the food was mediocre and there are a lot of other restaurants in the area which are better and will be getting our family and friends money in the future.

Portions very small for the high prices charged. NEVER AGAIN

Positive: friendly staff, great location, dog friendly. Food okay. Whole experience underwhelming with extremely limited menu options and way overpriced for the portion size. Some kind advice: when a customer asks for a certain dish marked as available on the menu, they don't expect to be told that the replacement they were served, was better. If the ordered dish was not available, simply inform the customer. Verdict: better to go to another eatery in the vicinity for your pocket.

Had a very large whole crab. Checked they had one in when we booked a table on the same day. Great service as they put one aside for me. My wife had a magnificent Haddock and chips. Terrific meal.

Lunch was lovely. Although my daughter did say we were there for her graduation as they asked when she called if it was for a special occasion. No mention of it when we arrived... Would have been nice as it was such a special day. It was very quiet so maybe not the right atmosphere for a celebration. However the food was tasty....

We thoroughly enjoyed a lunch at Rockfish a few weeks ago & decided to go there again today with friends. We had parked near the shops in Plymouth so after some retail therapy walked through the Barbican area to get to the restaurant. Nice ambience in the restaurant & we were not rushed to order (as happens in so many places these days) so had a leisurely meal which gave us the chance to catch up with friends. Food was delicious with a choice of fresh fish. Lovely waitress who was so friendly & helpful & was on her first full shift, helped make the experience more enjoyable. Huge thanks to Taylor who will be a great asset to the business.

Tasty fish! You can never go wrong with fresh ingredients, and I love their calamari, so fresh and tender. The service, however, is too slow. I was so hungry. At least, they could give me some chips before the main dishes were ready.

Another lovely meal at Rockfish tonight sitting outside overlooking the harbour. Delicious locally caught fish (I had silver mullet tonight which I've never tried before), always a good selection of interesting fish of the day plus the excellent standard offering on the menu. I'm coeliac and to have the whole menu available gluten free is absolute bliss, as is the option of a lovely local gluten free beer to wash things down with - thumbs up to the Salcombe Sundrop Pale Ale. Free kid's portion of fish and chips with adult's main also a great option, our 20 month-old was very appreciative! Wonderful friendly service from Kassie made us feel welcome and at ease, she explained all the options clearly and everything was very efficient and prompt. Thank you very much for a great evening.

love rockfish, have been to a couple and always find the service friendly. Sadly some of the dishes I wanted were not on but that's august for you! i love the writing on the menu idea. very noisy at times with a large group next to us but not the restaurants fault but it did make it hard to talk sometimes. food was great (dover sole). I am sure we will be back or at least at another rockfish in the future.

Rockfish is a good place if you want to try speciality fish such as Gurnard, Mullet, Ray etc (prices for these can vary). The food came well presented and the fish was quite delicious and the chips where plenty full with unlimited amount offered. Great is that kids under 5 can eat for free, which I thought was very generous. Would definitely try another dish again. Dish seen is the: Grilled Silver Mullet in a Garlic Butter sauce.

Arguably the best fish and chips in Plymouth! Venue is in a convenient location for the Barbican, and the view is of the marina/harbour depending on where you sit. Food is fantastic, but on the more expensive side for fish and chips, but the 'specials' all really shone through. Will be back again soon!

If you want to sit down and enjoy fabulous fish and chips, this is the place (no pun intended). The staff are welcoming, helpful and friendly. The setting is perfect. I was lucky enough to be able to sit outside in the sunshine and look across at the marina while enjoying the best fish and chips, washed down with a glass of a really pleasant Portuguese white wine. I wish I could do it more regularly but I never miss a meal here when visiting Plymouth.

We had meals here on a boiling hot Wednesday lunchtime. It was not busy, it felt peaceful after the rush of the town. We chose to sit outside in the shade of a pine tree, honestly it was like being abroad! The waiter explained the options and the prices of the fish caught that day and wrote them on the menu. We were offered water for the table and our drinks order was taken. We relaxed with our drinks and looked at the menu. One of us chose battered rock fish with chips and curry sauce - delicious. Two of us had plaice, fried in garlic butter which came with dressed green salad leaves or chips. We chose one of each. The chips were delicious, light and crispy on the outside, fluffy in the middle and ‘bottomless’ which was a nice touch, so we ordered another to share. The plaice was sublime, being white and moist, you could taste the freshness, absolutely DELICIOUS. We all agreed it felt like a real treat and worth every penny. Thank you to the staff, all were very well presented and courteous and thank you to the chef of course. Happy customers.

Fabulous service - friendly and just attentive enough. Great food. Fish cooked perfectly. A bit on the pricey side but well worth it.

The overall experience was good the only issue was that on two occasions plates were cleared from the table while a member of our party was still eating. The fish was very good we weren't as keen on the chips we expected traditional "chippy" chips these are more like fries and a little hard. I'm not sure if we would return but prefer to visit a traditional chip shop.

Eve was an absolute star! Despite us arriving a few minutes late… she was attentive and prompt! I highly recommend getting the daily fresh caught fish, we had the turbot and brill and they were delicious!
