Very unfortunate visit. I had a Hill Life voucher which I informed staff off when we arrived. This was 2 FOR 1 and we were told it would be honoured so we ordered lunch which was average, however company was good, and waitress was the redeeming person in this visit. So when bill arrived i presented the voucher to the staff who showed their inexperience in dealing with voucher. It was not redeemed and sadly their attitude was rude in the extreme. Needless to say we shall not return.

My husband and I called in today for our lunch and were pleasantly surprised. The menu was varied and prices reasonable. I chose seafood tagliatelle and my husband had soup and 1/2 sandwich. When the meal arrived I realised there was spinach included in my meal. As I have an intolerance to spinach so asked if I could have a side plate so I could remove it. As soon as the waiter heard I reacted to spinach he immediately offered to bring me a new meal. I thought this was excellent. Both my and my husbands meal were really nice with good portions.

Rad & Cool: portions massive, food good quality and fresh, flavours all lovely, brilliant seafood options, service friendly and professional, views over belfast city hall area so cool, everyone was very happy with their food. Rough & Cruddy: the shellfish in the bucket of shellfish was way overcooked.. tasty but way overcooked.. the fish tacos had very little siracha so they lacked flavour.. the table wasn't set with vinegar.. no lemon wedges with any fish dish. Reliable & Commendable: overall this is a place I'd recommend - while I had some tiny reservations about my own dish, the vast majority of our group was delighted with their lunch and it was very good value in a lovely setting.

Was not asked how i like my steak cooked, it was cooked rare but seemed to be a poor cut of meat. The bread that came with was very hard. No sauce with dish, making it somewhat dry. I visited Robinson & Cleaver for lunch during work with some colleagues. We had booked ahead of time so we were welcomed and seated very quickly.Service for both drinks and food seemed exceptionally slow which was very disappointing. At first I thought it was perhaps due to the large number of our people in our group, but then I realised that I hadn't seen anyone in the restaurant being served food despite us sitting there for nearly 30 minutes. I ordered the tagliatelle pasta which came with garlic bread. It was tasty however I was surprised to see it was a creamy sauce even though the menu had said pesto. It was still enjoyable but due to the large portion size and creamy sauce, I found it very filling especially for a lunch.I was told by colleagues that despite being asked how they'd like their steak cooked for the steak sandwich, when it arrived at the table the waitress told them that the steak was too thin to cook any other way than well done. Personally I would have been quite annoyed at being told this as my food was placed in front of me, because it is more difficult to change your mind at that point if you aren't happy with well done steak.Overall, I found Robinson & Cleaver very average. It's in a beautiful location and I'm sure it's wonderful sitting out on the terrace during the warmer months. I felt the service lacked friendliness and speed. The food was nice, although with such a wealth of restaurants on offer in the city centre, I don't think I will be back in a hurry.

When in Belfast today we decided to go here for the first time and knew it was in a great location overlooking City Hall. Initially went to upstairs restaurant and were promptly seated at a window seat and given menus. However we were only looking for a light lunch and it appears we arrived on a day when both the one type of soup and the one type of sandwich on offer were curry based! Curry and cauliflower soup or madras chicken sandwich. Neither option appealed but the waitress suggested trying the downstairs cafe as they had a selection of prepared sandwiches. So down we went and after waiting some time at the serving counter while the server washed dishes and eventually turned towards us with no greeting we asked what sandwiches were available to have her point at a basket on the counter and say "There". We took the two sandwiches on offer plus tea and then had to clear a table ourselves to sit at! The sandwiches were dry and not worth the money. The whole experience was poor particularly the downstairs cafe. This cafe/restaurant is in a prime location with great photos of the former Robinson Cleaver department store but does not offer a decent menu and the customer service in the cafe was appalling. It was not busy (perhaps unsurprising!) so no excuse for dirty tables, sullen service and stale sandwiches.

After being offered a hot or cold drink we had a browse over the menu but were distracted momentarily by the stunning views over royal avenue and the magnificent city hall and its buzzing Christmas market. We decided to go with the traditional fish and chips with mushy peas and tarter sauce, the fish was fried to perfection and the chips just how we like them, well done. My company booked our Christmas dinner in this place for approx 80 people. We had to pre order which is understandable. We have been before on a company outing for a meal and a lunch. it's been OK. The starter and meal were OK. But when it came to my desert I had to wait. All the deserts had come out and I was waiting. Everyone were eating and I asked after my cheese board! It came 10min later after everyone had finished. The cheese board had a chuck of cheddar, a pot of soft cheese, a side salad, some crackers and a large portion of pate. I asked the girl (who was real nice) what kind of cheese board was this? Where is the cheese. What if I was a vegetarian? She just said she would get the manager if I wanted. I declined as I just couldn't be bothered arguing. But it was clear that it was an imprompt cheese board thrown together with whatever was left in the kitchen. The money we spent in that place! I will advise against booking again. It's just been OK at the best of times.

Went here for lunch today, service and setting was good, very comfortable bright and spacious dining area - could be such a good place if the food was better! Menu is quite limited, could do with more of a choice of sandwiches for the soup and sandwich combo rather than just being the chicken madras wrap from the menu, seems a bit lazy to only offer the one from the menu especially when you aren't fond of tortilla wraps or spicy food! I had the chicken and chorizo burger and sweet potato fries. It came as a bap with one round bit of chorizo and a small breast butterflied of chicken, the chargrilled way it was cooked made it very dry and tough to eat, tasted ok, didn't taste any spice?? but could have done with a sauce other than mayo/ketchup to make it easier/more pleasant to eat some BBQ or caramelised onions maybe! Far too expensive for £13!

Four of us went to Robinson and Cleaver for dinner last night. I had been there before and it had been lovely. My father arrived early and was seated at the bar when we arrived. He had asked the bar tender what Scotch whiskey they had - he replied Jamesons and Bushmills. Subsequently it turned out they had Grouse, which was served in a brandy glass at the end of the meal. The menu was limited (apparently they are going to change it in a couple of weeks) and one of our party asked for a vegetarian menu which they did not have. The waiter pointed out what was suitable for vegetarians on the main menu. No effort was made to "speak to the chef" and when this was suggested to our waiter, he went away, came back and suggested having one of the starters as a main course option. Apparently we would have more vegetarian options for lunch...which really helped. This was off, that was off, there was no panna cotta and the torte was lemon instead of... This was on a Saturday night. The restaurant was half full - as were most of the loud mouthed table of twenty to our right.By this stage the whole episode was beginning to feel a bit like the "I am sorry sir, but we are fresh out of waldorfs" episode of Faulty Towers. If someone had told me that the chef had got drunk, taken the huff and walked out - to be frank I would not have been surprised. To be fair we were asked by circulating waiting staff periodically if everything was OK. I was a guest of the party and so said nothing. Beetroot and goats cheese fritters for starter were fine - tasty enough, but the "veggie board" which two of our party shared was boring. My beer battered cod was soggy, mushy peas and chips were nice. No lemon - vinegar and Heinz tomato ketchup in the bottle came along as an afterthought. Didn't have the vinegar, because I couldn't identify the sediment at the bottom of the bottle. Amaretto Sour was not sour. All said - surroundings were lovely. View of Belfast City Hall at night was spectacular. Such a shame that the evening did not live up to expectations. I was a guest and so did not say anything at the time, but to be quite honest, if I had brought a party of tourists there for a meal, I would have been embarrassed.

When I made an enquiry about organising a voucher for them, I was told to call in. As this is not possible (I live in Cornwall), I offered to pay by card over the phone but was informed that they don't have the 'facilities' to do this. No solution was offered and I thanked THE MANAGER and told him how disappointed I was bearing in mind that I had never encountered this from any restaurant before. In the past, I have bought gift meal vouchers in both large and small establishments in Ireland and UK with no problem whatsoever. It is always appreciated and most restaurants are glad of the business! My cousin informed me that her Christmas works do is being held there and she is far from impressed with their attitude.

I have now visited The Terrace Restaurant, Robinson & Cleaver for lunch and dinner on a few occasions and have loved it every time. The food has always been excellent, special mention for the sticky toffee pudding served with honeycomb ice-cream - yum! In the summer the terrace was just lovely for enjoying an early evening cocktail in the sunshine and we were even provided with blankets as the evening got chillier - brilliant! The staff are great, so friendly and very efficient. What I love is even when it's busy you are not rushed and can fully enjoy your (sometimes long) lunch or dinner. The room itself just has a relaxed feel with the high ceilings, lots of light from all the tall windows and the polished wooden floor. The music playing in the background is always good adding to the atmosphere. Pricewise I think the food is well priced and they do special offers on cocktails at times too!If you haven't visited The Terrace restaurant yet, I would recommend that you do, next time you are in Belfast.

We all found starters and mains which we liked.Quality of food was excellent and presented well with sufficient but not 'far too big' portions. As already mentioned in other reviews the staff are very helpful and attentive and this makes the whole experience superb. The ambiance in the restaurant is excellent and the views of the city hall give it that extra charm, though it was unfortunately too cold to sit outside to eat!Our family and friends were very impressed and a return visit is on the cards as soon as we can arrange!Thank you to staff and management - we will see you again soon

Went with a group of 7 for a friends 21st, the food was very good but the poor quality of the service really let them down. We had to retrieve our own glasses from the bar. We went for an early pre theatre dinner, the number of staff was ample but still we seemed to be forgotten about. There didn't seem to be a manager so the seemed to lack any sort of direction or organisation. We brought a cake and when it was brought out we had to wait 5 mins after for a knife to be brought. The woman sauntered over when we were clearly in a rush to get to our next event. Due to our rush we paid at the till without checking the receipt, upon later consideration of the price we realised that we were either all charged £8 per beer or the price we paid was wrong. Overall I wouldn't go back as the food is not worth having to deal with the very sub par service.

Nice place and the food (veggie platter and chips) was very tasty. What stood out was the quality of service: very welcoming, attentive and (it seemed) genuinely friendly. Sorted out a couple of requests without any fuss at all (I don't like my chips to be pre-seasoned!). The experience at my hotel, here and at the Garrick bar was so good it's made me want to return to Belfast for another weekend. We've some places here in Scotland which could learn from this approach to customer service!

We visited the cafe / coffee shop downstairs on a busy weekend afternoon. It's quite plain and boring on the inside, nothing noteworthy. Relatively small selection of beverages and snacks - certainly less than your average coffee shop..Perhaps the restraurant upstairs is of a better standard, but we recommend you give the cafe a miss. Lots of nicer places a stones throw away!

Had dinner here last Thursday night with my 2 daughters. Staff, Kirsty and Mark, were great! Very welcoming, friendly and service was good. They offered to take photos too. Lovely setting, lovely view of city hall in lights at night. We had mussels and pizza for starters, all good, steaks for main, chips really good, steaks bit overdone but still tasty. Desserts, all horrible, need a new selection on menu. Wine a bit expensive. I would go back again! They do offers until 6.45 Thursday, Friday and Saturday night, 2 courses £15, we booked table for 7 so missed out on deal but we will know for next time.

We visited the café downstairs and not the (probably much finer) restaurant upstairs. We chose it in order to avoid one of the ubiquitous coffee shop chains that blight this city like every other. The beverages and scones didn't disappoint, but the atmosphere was dead - we were the only ones there, although it was late morning on a weekday, in probably the most central part of Belfast. Pity.

Beautiful location in the heart of the city, went yesterday for some lunch and was surprised I'd never heard of it before then. Would have loved to been seated on the terrace but unfortunately there was a 20 min wait, however we got seated straight away inside and was served by a lovely blonde girl who recommended the the salmon special to my husband, it was a great choice, really enjoyed my experienced and can't wait to get back maybe for a more intimate dinning experience in the evening! The service was flawless considering the rush and the food didn't take more then 15 minutes. Well done and thank you!

Had lunch here yesterday with friend and partner and it was fantastic! We sat outside on the terrace and the sun was shining and it was truly glorious! We all agreed the food was beautiful. I'm a vegetarian so it can be tricky finding places that serve good vegetarian food that isn't an afterthought at a decent price. The goats cheese salad was really tasty and the portion was large. The sweet potato fries were a great accompaniment. The atmosphere was very chilled and it's simply hard to beat the view of Belfast city centre in the sun from the outside Terrace. The service was first class even on a very busy lunchtime thanks to Kirsty, Aaron & Andy. They were warm, welcoming and very professional. They were attentive without being overbearing and nothing was too much trouble to them. They really made our visit special. It really was a great treat and genuinely felt like we were on holiday such was the vibe about the place. The menu changes at night so an evening visit is on the cards. Full marks to everyone there. Can't wait to go back!

I ate here with a group of friends on Saturday and had an excellent Burger and chips and was reasonably priced. From what I can gather it was priced at £8. The setting was nice overlooking the main square in Belfast as well and had a well maintained terrace outside as well. So Far So Good…However initially the restaurant ran out of Belfast Ale! Given we were a large table and it was a Saturday night I was shocked that they could run out of beer but they did and its not as if we were drinking excessively either. After the meal and after all the beer was gone we had to vacate our table due to another booking and lounged around on the terrace and had a spirit and a few more drinks. Then the waitress went out and told us that we were getting in the way and would need to move. So were pretty much thrown out the restaurant! Considering as a table we would have spent between £300-400 I think that was a disgrace. We were all travellers who have been around the world and all agreed that this wasn’t good. I won’t be back at this restaurant until they sort out their customer service and also had an acceptable supply of drinks.

I have eaten in the upstairs Terrace Restaurant a couple of times. So, in passing, I dropped into the ground floor coffee shop for coffee and a scone and was served by a very pleasant young lady. Taking advantage of the free newspaper I sat at the window looking out over the front of our beautiful City Hall. Then, I bit into my scone. It was stale and obviously left over from the previous day. To be honest, it ruined what had been, up until then, a very pleasant morning. The cost in disposing of food left over at the end of the day has to be minimal. A pity really, because I'll not be back.

I stopped in here on Bank holiday Monday for a coffee and a scone. It wasn't my first time in the coffee shop. I arrived in, and thought the place might be closing up (I arrived at 1500). I was able to get a coffee and a scone, but couldn't help but notice the staff member cleaning up and tidying everything away. All the scones/Danish etc were all tidied away by 1515. I have to say, this made me rush my coffee and scone because I felt that I was maybe outstaying my welcome. I asked the girl what time they closed and she told me 1600. I thought with 45 mins to go, perhaps putting away the food was a tad premature. That said, I wasn't the only person in the café. I appreciate people want to get tidied up and away at the end of the day (my mother also works in a café), but removing the products so early on had potential to lose the café business, which I'm sure the owners wouldn't be enamoured about.

Great location, especially the beautiful terrace on the first floor where we had lunch in the sunshine today. We both ordered the 'rustic pizza' which was abysmal: a dry Naan bread, no tomato base/passata, a patchy covering of cheese and a drizzle of hot sauce - literally that was it apart from a few very sad fronds of rocket. Awful, dry, bland and disappointing. A great location spoiled by a poor lunch. Staff ok.

This is just an average cafe downstairs which mainly serves pre-packaged sandwiches/muffins, crisps and drinks. There doesn't seem to be anything freshly made on the premises. The sandwiches are made by Doorsteps so it is really the equivalent of buying a pre-packaged sandwich in a newsagents/supermarket only the sandwich is opened out of the package and put on a plate for you! I met a friend here for a quick lunch and chose a bacon, Brie and cranberry sandwich but when I went to eat it, it was actually a mix of Brie and blue cheese (maybe Doorsteps ran out of Brie?). I took it back to the counter and was told by the two very young serving staff that they don't make the sandwiches so couldn't be responsible for what's in it! They did however exchange it for another sandwich. My friend's scone (plain scone was the only option) looked like it had been pre-packaged and then opened and put in a basket to look like it was freshly baked. It was hard and unappealing. There are so many far superior cafes in the city centre where you can get a decent freshly baked scone and freshly made sandwich so I can't think of any good reason to recommend Robinson Cleaver as a cafe. Definitely a very average experience not to be repeated!

We attempted to access the upstairs part of the restaurant but due to the locked door and closed sign, we were unable to get in at 0910. Though staff were inside at the downstairs coffee shop till, they chose to ignore us, even when we waved. We returned after getting our breakfast in nearby Nero's where the staff were polite and welcoming. We asked why there had been a problem and were told if we had a problem to go upstairs to the manager. The staff found it hard to address our complaint and looked blankly at us. The closed sign on the front door remained in place and on my way out, I turned this sign and suggested it might be a good idea to indicate to customers that the restaurant and café were open. We remarked to the staff that outside, hundreds of tourists were looking for somewhere to eat, but again they appeared disinterested. I have previously had lunch in the downstairs café and was served a bowl of lukewarm soup, I asked for it to be heated up and it was no better.I do not recommend this café, the staff are poor. Also, there was a very odorous mop been slopped about the floor, which does not entice customers to linger, once they do get in through the door!!!

We stopped for coffee on the Terrace having spotted the sign on the street. The terrace was lovely with nice seats, cushions and blankets provided and a fabulous view on to City Hall. All reasonably priced for a coffee stop - we had the toast which was fabulous - would recommend trying it! Only downside was the WiFi not working (told service does not reach upstairs by our waitress), as a visitor to the city we were planning our day ahead and route during coffee so working WiFi would have helped. Robinson and Cleaver is the name also of the famous military outfitters which occupied the site in the early part of 20th Century and supplied coats etc to First World War Officers. My wife had identified it as good place to eat and it is directly opposite City Hall, so if you get a seat on the terrace you have a fine view and ambiance. Food and Service were up to (high) expectations and it was a very pleasant interlude in the day having just driven up from Dublin.

We had a bottle of wine 2 Main Courses and 2 sides. When we asked for the Bill and produced the Voucher when were told we had to spend it all we could not transfer to another time or have the remainder given onto another voucher. I have been given Vouchers before for other Restaurants and have never had this Treatment. The Food was also pretty poor and the waiting staff with the exception of one young man was as poor as I've experienced. I was quite disappointed because the bap was so crumbly there was hardly any of it left by the time all the crumbs fell away. The cheese wasn't melted very well and the bacon was quite tough. Visited on a Saturday afternoon with my wife for some lunch. Liked the setting and overall atmosphere of the venue although the acoustics and open plan layout made it seem very loud. Nice selection on the menu and at the outset friendly staff. After that everything went a little down hill. We ordered the fish platter starter as a single portion to share but were presented with a double platter. Whilst this was plesant it was far too large for a starter. My wife then ordered the steak sandwich and the cut of meat was extremly disappointing. It was more like stewing steak that the supposed rib eye. Politely asked what the cut of meet was but no feed back given. Also served by 3 different people one of whom wandered around with our meals before finally realising they were for us. This is an excellent location but customer service was poor and quality of food just about average. The terrace was absolutely stunning. The view, same. Wine, slightly alcoholic strawberry juice. Salad: ridiculous. a tenner for four small goat cheese balls, a not much else. The quantity could be okay if the ingredients would balanced out a good, flavoursome lunch; instead the overpowering sweetness of caramelised onions combined with A LOT of balsamic sugary dressing desperately called for something that could lighten the sugary taste of the whole thing. How can you do it, when the main ingredient and balancing flavour is reduced to four miserable balls? Would definitely not recommend to get that. Overall, if you care more about the view than what you are eating, definitely go pay a visit. If not, for the same price you can treat your taste buds.

I visited here today with my partner. We both ordered the fry. I was enjoying mine until I found a big hair cooked into my egg. This is shocking and the cooks should be wearing hair nets or hats when working to prevent this sort of thing. My partner enjoyed her food and the surroundings are nice and comfortable.
