Food and cocktail selection was amazing. While I had difficulty deciding, both servers were very patient with me and checked alternately if I was ready to order. I especially loved their starters and I was glad that I ordered two starters for a treat to myself (exercise after...lol). A hearty meal for winter. Very thoughtful to ask if I needed a break after the main before desert was to be served and when to serve the hot tea and petit fours. This question was probably the best indicator of the services for most restaurants. For interiors and atmosphere, it was done perfectly. I knew I had a soft spot for restaurants housed in heritage buildings and refurbished to give the historic fabric a new lease of life. Sofas were comfortable, almost too comfortable that I didn't want to end this wonderful meal so soon (after 2-3 hours anyway). Good value for money, too.

Came here to celebrate after the university graduation. We literally booked half hour before hopping on a taxi and arriving at the hotel/restaurant door. We had other plans to go somewhere else but unfortunately it was close, so we had to think on our feet as it was beginning to rain. The staff was unaware of our booking being so last minute but accommodated anyway! We were very thankful for their hospitality and the flexibility. The kindness they showed to a family of five that afternoon was the most memorable thing that day (even more so than the unnecessary long graduation ceremony…). Anyway, we ordered the set menu and everything was delicious and well presented. I sort of wish I had ordered from the vegan menu instead because all of my friend’s dishes looked creative and original. Highly recommend visiting during the festive season! Their Christmas decorations were simply out of this world. It was magical and we were fortunate enough to experience it all.

The ambiance and service 5/5! I love the wine selection especially the dessert wine. I booked for two and got an amazing view from our seats. The food generally is good and interesting but the beef en croute was too dry for me and I could not go on to finish it. I was disappointed. But I love the crème fraiche tart with sorbet.

My daughter and I had Christmas Eve dinner here. It was fabulous. The wait staff were courteous, friendly, and helpful. We had the Classic Sharing Dish for Two. The food was delicious, and there was more than enough for both of us. We decided to have the Christmas Pudding and vanilla ice cream, which was warm and sweet. We will definitely return in the future.

Exquisite food and atmosphere. This place honestly blew us away. I think the photos online don't sell it enough. The value is really good too - we expected it to be more expensive than it was. Magical place to visit especially at Christmas.

Third year we’ve come here for Christmas Eve. Food was exceptional, as always, but the service is always what we mostly remember because the staff are always so nice and helpful with our now two year old. My partner is pregnant so they helped her with dietary requirements too which was great.

The Atmosphere is incredible and the staff is friendly. However, the food is quite expensive and barely eatable.

Really delicious dinner in opulent surroundings. A particularly good wine list. Chateaubriand to share was pre-sliced which we didn’t expect. Flavour was still amazing but would have enjoyed carving at the table. Tatin divine too.

When the need arises for a dining experience for a special occasion, we tend to try somewhere new. There are a few places that we would go back to however Rhubarb in the Prestonfield hotel in Edinburgh is one of the places we like to frequent. Situated near to the ancient Arthur's Seat, the Prestonfield hotel itself is steeped in history, dating back to the 17th century and exuding an elegant and luxurious atmosphere that instantly transports you to another time. As for Rhubarb, the restaurant is nothing short of a five-star dining experience. The food was absolutely exquisite, with each dish crafted to perfection and bursting with flavor. The menu featured a fantastic array of seasonal and locally sourced ingredients, showcasing the best of Scottish cuisine. The presentation of the dishes was also a work of art, truly elevating the dining experience. In addition to the outstanding food, the service at Rhubarb was top-notch. The staff were incredibly attentive, knowledgeable, and welcoming, adding to the overall warmth and sophistication of the restaurant. The surroundings of the restaurant were equally as impressive. The dining room itself was beautifully decorated and offered stunning views of the hotel's grounds, creating a truly enchanting atmosphere. Overall, my experience at Rhubarb was unforgettable. From the rich history of the Prestonfield hotel to the exceptional food, service, and surroundings, everything combined to create a truly special and memorable dining experience. It’s been 16 years since I first went there, and it is even more special than I remember! The place is fabulous, with a very unique and beautiful ambiance. The food is excellent, and the wine list is so extensive, you are almost guaranteed to find something delicious. The best of all is the staff: Welcoming, friendly and attentive, they make the experience what it is. Thank you to all the wonderful staff who made our night so special.

This is hands down, the BEST restaurant I have not only eaten at, but had the pleasure of meeting, chatting and being treated like royalty by every single member of staff that we had the pleasure to meet. I can not recommend enough and will be going out of my way to visit again very soon!!

One of the best experience in Edinburgh. Not only the food was delicious but the service was brilliant and adorable. We even had a complementary tour of the hotel with the concierge walking us through history of the place and historic pieces, decor and suites. It was nothing but a luxury adventure. Thank you for making my partner’s birthday so special and for the unforgettable memories!

This was our third time at the Rhubarb Restaurant. The service from sommelier Lukas, our server Rico and Mr. Phil was impeccable. They made us feel welcome, they were accommodating to our every request and at the end of the night, they offered us a tour of the grounds and the hotel. As always, it was a fabulous experience, from the hospitality, to the food and the atmosphere. We would absolutely recommend it and we will definitely be back again. As for the food, we ordered the Wood Pigeon, Tweeddale Beef and the Red Deer platter for two. All the dishes were extremely well thought out, with flavours that compliment each item expertly and the meat was cooked to perfection. If we could give 6 stars, we would. Absolutely fantastic!

What a treasure this place is. The opulence of the place is breathtaking. If you can start your evening with a cocktail upstairs. There are open fireplaces in the colder seasons and it couldn’t be any cosier. The food is great, the wine list impressive. I can recommend the chateaubriand

What an elegant and interesting location! Food was excellent. I had the tomato appetizer and it was absolutely delicious. The main Bass dish was very good. My friends had the shake and really enjoyed it. After dinner we wandered around all the rooms. The place is amazingly decorated.

My partner and I had a spectacular dinner at Rhubarb. We're both gluten free, and we were told that we could have ANYTHING on the menu! They also brought us this delicious, warm, gluten-free focaccia and a plate of entirely gluten-free petits fours.

Lovely experience and service. Shout out to sommelier Lukas for his impeccable patience and expert recommendations. Also, for those ornithologists, quite the sightings on the vast well manicured grounds.

Rhubarb Restaurant is a fantastic splurge. The rooms, the food, and the service are all incredible. I got the 3 course dinner. Each course was delicious, as was the wine. The service was attentive and friendly. I enjoyed peeking into the various other rooms after dinner. In addition to being excellent, having dinner here is quite unforgettable because all the rooms are just so beautifully decorated.

A beautiful setting with great food and service. Expensive but we expected that.

Rhubarb is our go-to stopping point when visiting the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. Set in the gorgeous Prestonfield House, even before you get to the beautifully decorated dining room, you are wandering around the beautifully landscaped gardens. Once inside, there is an a la carte menu of deliciousness, and during the Edinburgh Fringe, they have a three-course table d'hote menu, which never disappoints in terms of choice, value or quality. There are few restaurants we would return to time and time again, but Rhubarb is one we certainly will. Sumptuous surroundings. Sumptuous food. We had the haunch of red deer in pastry was superb and worth the waiting 45 minutes for preparation. Our server was so solicitous and precise. A celebratory dinner on any occasion.

Amazing dinner at Rhubarb Restaurant @ The Prestonfield last night. So great to see the hotel busy with 2 weddings and restaurant rooms all full. Food first class from presentation to taste. A huge shout out to the fantastic staff team who were professional, attentive and friendly. Will return soon for fizz on the lawn, to sit back, relax and enjoy the beautiful surroundings.

Having visited Edinburgh several times, we always love trying out new places to dine. We stumbled on Rhubarb on TripAdvisor and booked a table for when we visited recently.Just the location itself makes you feel excited about the experience you are going to have. The interior is beautiful and adds to the stunning atmosphere that comes with the service you receive.We had three courses and were extremely impressed with every dish we had. First we were served freshly made bread before our starters which set the tone for the quality of food. My favourite was the Hake with seasonal vegetables, and my boyfriend was blown away with lamb. This is a hidden gem in Edinburgh and we are certainly going to be heading back here when we next visit.

My husband brought me here for my 30th birthday. We were greeted by a cat, two peacocks and a lovely gentleman who escorted us to our table. The dining room holds its traditional decor and feels very intimate and cosy. I am a vegetarian and my husband has celiac disease so we can struggle at times with limited options, however the menu provided lots of choice for both of us, and they were very reassuring to my husband regarding his dietary requirements which instilled confidence in us both. The food was unbelievably delicious, I didn’t want it to end! Extensive wine menu also. The service was impeccable, especially Rico who could not do enough for us and is just an all round gentleman.

Just got back home, after a wonderful meal here.This place fully deserves its 5 star rating, as the food, and old worlde opulence, along with the attentive service, offered us the best meal experience we have had for a long time. My husband and I enjoyed a really excellent dinner at Rhubarb. The crab, hake, halibut and tarte tartin were particularly delicious but everything was good. A superb wine list and lovely dining room and lounge areas. The staff were both friendly and helpful. All in all a fantastic evening.

I used to entertain a lot at Prestonfield back in the 80s/90s, which is why I chose it for the first night of our honeymoon thirty years ago. Tonight's dinner was supposed to be a romantic occasion, but it turned into a £240 disappointment.Firstly, let me tell you the good things. The dining room is still very grand, the food is still pretty good, and the wine list is exceptional.Let me now tell you the bad things. We expected to enjoy a cocktail in the upstairs bar, but were dragged straight to our table, where the menu was slapped down without any mention of an aperitif.With the honourable exception of the sommelier, who was very impressive, the staff were awful. I did not expect to come to Prestonfield and be addressed throughout the meal as "you guys". I know it is impossible to get good staff in hospitality at the moment, but someone has to take responsibility for what these idiots say.We were stuck behind a table of Liverpudlians, having a very noisy reunion. It was like having two hours of The Royle Family playing at full volume throughout dinner, with a guest appearance from some zany American guest star. Surely they could have had a private room, and not ruined dinner for everyone else.In short, a £240 dinner that I hope to forget rather than remember.

Set in beautiful grounds the Prestonfield exudes elegance and charm. The staff are friendly and courteous. The restaurant "Rhubarb", serves delicious, well presented food from both A la carte and set price menus. The latter being around £44 for three courses. Good value for the quality of food. Worth a visit.

My partner and I had dinner at Rhubarb on my 50th birthday. I had previously dined at The Witchery so I knew Rhubarb would be of an equally high standard and wasn’t disappointed. We were greeted as soon as we stepped out of the taxi and efficiently ushered to our table in an intimate dining room. The waiter had a great knowledge of the extensive wine menu and I was thrilled that one my favourite champagnes was available (Billicart Salmon Rosé). This was followed by a delightful red that was expertly decanted by the waiter.And the food….wow, the food. I had asparagus to start and my partner had monkfish. Both dishes were absolutely sublime. Faultless We had the Chateaubriand for our main course and it was the best I have ever tasted. It’s not always the most flavoursome cut of beef but this was packed full of beefiness and cooked to perfection. Each of the many sides including bearnaise sauce and the silken cauliflower purée was exquisite. We somehow managed to find room for a creme brûlée for dessert - and yes, you guessed it, it was perfect. We’ve been fortunate enough to dine at some amazing restaurants so are pretty good judges of food and wine. I can honestly say, this was one of the most pleasurable & satisfying dining experiences we’ve ever had. The venue was beautiful - I don’t really like modern so the antiques and opulence really appealed to me. The setting was stunning and the staff made us feel really special. We can’t wait to visit again in the future.

First class food, served beautifully in an extremely opulent environment by friendly and engaging staff. What a lovely evening we had! A revisit to Prestonfield after many years, we noticed quite a few eye catching changes to the interior but the warmth of the welcome we received had definitely not changed. We shared the chateaubriand for main, which was cooked to perfection, with a lovely assortment of vegetables and sauces, and then the rhubarb and custard millefeuille - what else would you choose to eat at ‘Rhubarb’?! Thanks Prestonfield for keeping our fond memories alive and helping us create new ones.

Gorgeous setting, pretty grounds for a drink outside. Inside like a stately home but not stuffy or formal. Cosy interesting series of rooms used for dining. The set menu good value, good quality. Beef en croute rather fatty but was dealt with swiftly and professionally. I know we have to comply with COVID rules but seems extremely over the top to have to wear rubber gloves to view the wine list! Annoying that not all guests asked to observe the same standards. This was the only restaurant we visited in Edinburgh with this who have chosen to introduce this ridiculous rule. Pls ask everyone to do the same - very annoying and frustrating when not uniformly applied.Overall, a pleasant experience.

We have used this venue for family celebrations and special treats since the 1990s. We are unlikely to risk it again. On Wednesday 14/7/21 the atmosphere was as good as usual as were the imaginative starters. But, almost everything went downhill from there. The service progressively slowed to being virtually unresponsive. This probably lead to our main courses seeming over-cooked, particularly the pork fillet, steak and fish. 3 of our 4 main courses were little more than starter size and the sweets were tiny. To make matters worse (most unusually) 3 of us suffered from indigestion/sickness overnight and "the trots" the next day.

Food was beautifully presented and delicious although a bit on the expensive side for lunch. Would definitely recommend and will be back in future for a special occasion

Unfortunately me and my wife had a bad experience here. It was quite a disappointment as the pictures look incredible. The services was incredibly slow. It look around 3 and half hours to get through starter, main and desert. I think we waiting for around 45 mins to 1 hour just for the starter to arrive. It was very cold, due to the window being open for covid reasons (totally understandable), but with no counter measure such as a heating device. We sat next to the window and my wife was so cold all evening. The food was only ok, although I must say the dessert was outstanding (and the only potion size that was actually ok). My crab starter was really bland, I would recommend avoiding that. On the plus side, the interior was really beautiful and interesting, and our waitress was very friendly and without any request on our part, reduced the final by around 30% due to the issues we had. It has potential but the service and dishes really need refinement.

Came for dinner again after a wedding meeting. Food and service fantastic. I had the belly pork and my fiance had the beef en croute. Both excellent. We tried a few wines too...a Sangiovese and a Malbec, both lovely.

The restaurant was busy and the atmosphere convivial. The staff were attentive but service was not obtrusive. Each of the dishes we had was sublime, but the Loch Lomond Lamb merits particular mention. Anyone visiting for the first time should be aware that the wine list is both expensive and extensive, so can feel a little overwhelming. However, wines at the lower end of the price range are good and you won't feel short changed.

Really disappointed. Booked weeks in advance and called ahead. No mention of not being booked into restaurant and seated in the ‘extension’. Poor service and no ambiance. waiting staff all over the place and the manager very rude with explaining our disappointment. Would not go back even though have been on business a few times prior.

Absolutely gorgeous restaurant with incredible staff and wonderful food. My husband and I came whilst on our honeymoon and the staff went out of their way to make our night special. Would recommend to anyone looking for a romantic evening and spectacular food and ambience.

Our second time at Prestonfield in recent years didn't let us down: quite a few guests, and good ambience for people watching. Service was attentive but slightly clumsy. The food was beautifully presented, from smoked salmon to watercress veloute, nicely seasoned apart from potatoes which our party found slightly overseasoned. Portions were modest and left plenty of room for dessert and petit fours. Wine selection might have been great but because there is no option other than a QR code, we simply chose from the house options.

We went for a meal to celebrate my mums birthday the restaurant decor is beautiful. All the staff were lovely helpful and friendly and really made us feel welcome. All the food we had was amazing. Would definitely recommend this restaurant. I also loved the Peacock which was wondering around on our way out.

The restaurant is gorgeous and the food was very tasty. The sommelier was of great help. But I’m sad to say the service was average, definitely didn’t reflect ‘special occasion’ dining, or fine dining. Our server was very friendly but constantly made errors with mixing up tables, giving us salt & pepper in mini pouches like in a fish and chip place, bringing us the wrong bill, not providing appropriate cutlery (spoons), and never describing the food when it was brought to us, which left us guessing particularly with cheeses. I was expecting top experienced service but got friendly pub staff service. I don’t want to sound like a snob but if your heart is on an exceptional experience, you can’t help but feel let down when do many things go ‘wrong’.

Opentable booking for a birthday meal, but they seemed to have lost the booking 🤷🏻‍♀️ Service was not the best, but the servers are polite and courteous, but time taken to order, and be served items was was not as timely as expected (for fine dining?) Food was good, nice presentation. Drinks are great (cocktails too). QR code menu doesn’t seem to work on android phones very well though. Scenic view, peacocks in the garden. Resident cat comes to say hello ☺️ I’m not so sure dress code is strictly smart for dining since there were casually dressed others..

Great to be back here as it is one of our group of friends favourite places. We usually come here on Christmas Eve so this visit was special as we haven’t seen each other for 18 months due to COVID-19. Great welcome, fabulous food but service leaves a lot to be desired. Wine arrived after our starter. White wine placed in a bucket far away but no attention to serving it - why? Constantly asking for water. So while it’s always a good experience there is a lot of improvement required in service. Not acceptable given the prices.

A 5 star experience for set lunch: quality, value and service top notch UNTIL the coffee! Whole coffee setup needs an overhaul to fit contemporary expectations and standards. Hot would be a start.Cost of coffees was removed from bill, which went some way to mitigate the damage to positive overall experience.

We stayed 5 days in Edinburgh and dine twice in this restaurant, the food was divine, we enjoyed everything. Beautiful location and building, elegant decoration. The staff was incredible and attentive, even the household cat "Raven" came on both occasions to greet us, is a must-visit, We had the first day the set menus (recommended) the second day we decided a la carte both were outstanding.

Beautiful grounds, right next to Arthur’s Seat so had the wow factor before we sat down! Our servers were really lovely and very attentive. The food was amazing and very good value, but I gave a 4/5 because although the Hake was perfectly cooked, the risotto that came with wasn’t as fantastic. Will definitely be back next time we are in Edinburgh!

Visited this restaurant recently for lunch with my partner and it was up to its usual superb standard. I've been here 5 or 6 times now and it's simply magnificent. The setting and decor is glorious, the service is warm and friendly and the food is unfailingly excellent. I've travelled to a lot of different places and eaten in numerous establishments across the world and it makes me so happy that the best of all of them is in my home city so I can visit regularly. For the overall experience and the quality of food this is, quite simply, my favourite restaurant anywhere. As I'd expect all the correct protocols were in place and, on arrival, we were guided through the process with the warmth and courtesy I've come to expect. If you are visiting Edinburgh and are looking for something special you won't find anyplace better.

Optamos por el menú de ahorro en 38 cada uno, no podríamos haber estado más encantados con la elección de comida. Fue una sensación de sabor. Me encantaría quedarme en nuestra próxima visita.

Traje a mi tía y mi tío aquí para mostrarles el lugar de mi boda (octubre de 2021).Los controles implementados para Covid fueron excelentes: se tomaron todos los detalles y se realizó la verificación de temperatura antes de ingresar al edificio.Servicio excelente como siempre.La comida era francamente fabulosa y, como siempre, el pan que se servía era super sabroso.Hablamos con el gerente general después de nuestra comida y nos contó sobre todas las personas famosas que se habían quedado allí. . . . la colocación de nombres se hizo bien :) y fue genial obtener un poco de historia sobre los edificios y la habitación. Es ese toque personal lo que hace que este lugar sea tan fantástico.Traeré a mi dama de honor en diciembre para la cena, así que no puedo esperar a volver.

Nuestra cena de aniversario fue excepcional en este impresionante restaurante con un ambiente maravilloso y un personal fabuloso. En estos tiempos de Covid, antes de ingresar al edificio, una máquina independiente toma la temperatura y luego toca la máquina manual higiénica libre. Usando su máscara hasta que esté sentado, entonces comienza su experiencia. Todo está hecho de una manera tan encantadora y amigable. Y te sientes reconfortado.El almuerzo fue fantástico ya que la comida es siempre. El personal es fantástico. Toda la experiencia es impecable.El Prestonfield House Hotel y el restaurante Rhubarb son el epítome de la clase en todas partes. Pavos reales y vacas de las Highlands deambulando. Teniendo en cuenta que está a unos 5 minutos en taxi de Princes Street, este es un hotel y restaurante único.Mi agradecimiento al Sr. Thompson por hacer de este lugar un lugar tan especial.Mi lugar favorito en Edimburgo. Con el cierre (lamentablemente) del Tower Restaurant en el centro de Edimburgo, fuimos redirigidos al Prestonfield House Hotel y, si eso es posible, fue incluso mejor para el té de la tarde. Y sirven este menú hasta las 7. 00 p. metro. Es perfecto para una cena temprana: el té de la tarde es una forma muy sociable de comer.La comida estuvo perfecta. Muchos artículos diferentes en cuatro platos, en los tamaños y proporciones correctos para comerlos en un par de horas. Los mejores bollos que he comido. Mejor macaron. Excelentes sándwiches vegetarianos y una deliciosa selección de platos tradicionales en el menú regular.Por supuesto, a todos nos gustaría que los negocios prosperasen nuevamente, pero en el momento en que las cosas están tranquilas con la pandemia de Covid 19, puedes tener lugares maravillosos casi para ti. Comimos en el Whisky Room más pequeño de la planta baja y no había nadie más que lo compartiera con nosotros. El servicio fue atento pero no entrometido.De hecho, estas eran mis vacaciones de verano con dos de mis seres queridos. Fue delicioso y memorable, y valió la pena el precio.

Este es un establecimiento muy exclusivo. Hermosos jardines, hermoso interior y un ambiente acogedor. Tomamos el té de la tarde, 60 para dos personas, que es probablemente el té de la tarde más caro que he comido, probablemente el mejor que he comido.Una cosa, realmente no me gusta cuando el azúcar viene en pequeños paquetes y luego tienes basura en tu mesa, los terrones de azúcar serían más apropiados.

Vinimos aquí para celebrar nuestro aniversario y no nos decepcionó. El ambiente es acogedor e íntimo y cada plato era delicioso y bellamente servido. El servicio también fue muy amable y servicial. Definitivamente recomendaría Rhubarb para una noche especial. Si tiene algo de tiempo, pasee por los jardines para ver los pavos reales y las vacas de las Highlands.

Food is well presented however lacks distinctive flavours and nothing has the wow factor. Service is fine but like most places these days, is hurried.

The starters were excellent, the mains were nice and the deserts were average. Enjoyed the unique characters of all the different rooms and would recommend if you haven't already been.

Amazing dining space, worth visiting only for being able to see the house. Food is also excellent although bigger portions would be better, leaves you craving for some more. Staff is amazingly helpful and professional. Highly recommend it

Firstly I reserved this restaurant just based on a good sounding menu,nothing disappointed at all.We were blown away buy such great dishes all cooked to perfection.
