Regency Restaurant in Brighton and Hove

Ordered haddock, chips, curry sauce. The fish and chips were both good, nothing amazing but fine. The curry sauce however was an abomination. The worst I have ever had. It was dark brown, thick enough to lay bricks with and tasted strangely sweet. It looked like someone had sh** in the ramekin. I asked the waitress to remove it as it was horrible. It was a shame, as otherwise it seemed pleasant enough place. Service was fine. Think this place rests on its laurels and location but there are far better places to eat fish in Brighton.

Lovely lunchtime meal here last week, I had the skate which was absolutely sublime my o/h had a lovely swordfish meal too. This place is one of those places that really you would like to keep a secret as it is so good that sometimes you can’t get in without pre booking

Decided on this restaurant after comparing a few options for seafood - specifically lobster. Booked in advance, and was not disappointed. Extremely busy restaurant. Opted for the seafood and extravaganza and everything was perfect. Only slight negative was the dish was mostly made up of muscles, however the lobster, oysters and scallops were amazing. If we return would opt for separate dishes.

It was OK. I have wanted to go for years, finally got there for lunch this week. all i would say is that it all lacked flavour. and a microwaved bought in apple pie made with tinned apple as i say it was ok, nothing that you would actually complain about. but nothing to rush back for

Group of 8 turned up ad hoc and warmly greeted. Lovely decor/ambience and super service. Varied mains and desserts and all plate's emptied. Fish not my go to choice, had the mixed fish, plenty on the plate, calamari was a bit disappointing. Ohers had the skate and were happy. Would suggest the food was only, above average, but would happily return.

Text: Disappointed with this restaurant which I’ve used over 8 times in 18 months. I drove from Crawley and booked ahead of time for my 66th birthday lunch a table for 4 at 1.30pm with my wife and two teenage kids aged 16&18. The price is reasonable when the quality is good - the bill came to £185.00 including £20 service charge automatically added to the bill. Overview: The service was okay as usual quick but not friendly we were served by 5 different people. However what was horrible and shocking was that the food quality has dropped significantly since my last visit in September 2023. The scallops were very good as usual but the haddock and chips was very disappointing indeed…(more later) Oysters were pathetic the flesh was tiny and not tasty at all. Calamari was soft and the batter was soggy and ‘flat’. The fish and chips … haddock was dry and flakey and chewy clearly frozen fish. The batter was completely different to my last meal at Regency this time it was soggy and flat no crisp whatsoever. The chips were cold and miserable. The apple pie was disgusting really disgusting tasteless and bland and the pie crust was soft and soggy the runny cream was a bit sour and suspect my wife asked me to taste it and I poured some into my double espresso and it curdled. The tiramisu and profiteroles were ok. I just recently voted this restaurant for best in Brighton but I think that was a mistake. It’s a shame the food quality was so poor especially for simple things that should be excellent and are not technically acceptable! Poor show.

I’m always delighted with the food and service here. Generous portions sizes. Good value for money. Excellent service in this well run restaurant.

First class. Excellent ambience, faintly reminiscent of Sweetings the famous City fish restaurant which is perhaps a coincidence since the building was previously owned, albeit 2 centuries ago, by the Coutts dynasty. The food was spot on, the wine great value and the service perfect. The manager walked the floor, always a good sign, I think. Great value. Thank you.

I would like to express my sincere gratitude to the wonderful staff at The Regency. I learned that yesterday our carer took my 83 year old mother out for a stroll but she suddenly needed the loo and also felt dizzy. They popped into the Regency and were met with a warm welcome, they not only let mum use the loo but offered her water and a seat. Mum has Alzheimer’s and suffers with stress and anxiety and she said that they made her feel at ease and were so kind. Thank you so much for looking after my mum!

Disappointed that grilled fish with boiled new potatoes were from a tin as were the 'saulted' mushrooms. Unfortunately it was what I would expect in a local cafe not a seafront restaurant

Visited for a pre valentines day meal and ordered the seafood platter extravaganza. It was extremely generous and tasty. Service was quick and there was always a waiter on hand. The champagne which came with the platter was really good quality. Would definitely Visit again

La nourriture est de très mauvaise qualité et le personnel très peu professionnel, ensuite on vous mendie le pourboire qui est obligatoire sur l'addition. Un piège à touristes.

Le personnel très engageant et affable au premier abord. Vous commandez des huitres ... ils ne prennent pas le temps de les laisser se regorger de leur eau iodée, elles étaient infectes(les pauvres). Les frites congelées et cartonnées, l'ambiance de cantine bruyante. Le serveur vous mendie le pourcentage pour le service alors que.. il est obligatoire sur l'addition, est-ce légale ? Un café sur la terrasse face à la mer suffira, s'il n'y a pas de vent.

It's always a treat to eat at the Regency, with their welcoming staff, delicious, freshly cooked food and buzzing atmosphere ! Highly recommended, we have been visiting over a number of years and always feel welcome and satisfied. A must for any Brighton visit!

I usually have one of their mixed-fish platters. It is consistently good. For me this is the best fish and chips in Brighton.

The fish was cooked to perfection. Our waitress, Joy, lived up to her name. She was cheerful, helpful and a pleasure to talk to. Highly recommended.

We were happily admitted with a small dog. Members of staff friendly, and trying their best. The atmosphere is nice and comfortable. Food is slightly better quality than usual takeaway, but would not say it gone far. Maybe take away being served to your table. Dessert is not worth a look, tasteless

This is a restaurant that I keep coming back to when I need some excellent and good value seafood. I had the grilled fish medley with chips. Fantastic. The staff are really friendly and there's plenty available on the floor.

Typical tourist restaurant. What I mean is, they don't bother to give you great service so you'll come back. I went with my partner to this restaurant. The idea was to eat seafood... what a disappointment. We arrived and sat inside the restaurant, but we preferred to change seats. We asked the waitress if we could go outside and she said yes, but in a very rude way she told us we couldn't move again. It was obvious that we wouldn't change again, since there are only two options (inside and outside)... but anyway. My partner ordered the Regency Seafood Spaghetti and I ordered the Calamari Fried. The pasta was overcooked, mushy and tasteless. The little seafood was also tasteless. My dish wasn't bad, but the portion was tiny. My partner ordered a Mimosa... what a horror, she only took the first sip, the orange juice they used must have been the cheapest in the supermarket, with that bitter taste. In other words, our experience was disastrous, we were very disappointed. As it's close to the 360, we soon realised the catch. A restaurant for tourists, more expensive than other places in the city and with very poor quality. At the end we received the bill and I asked the waitress if the service charge (12.5%) was shared by the staff and to my surprise she said that they don't receive the service charge. What an absurdity!!! How can a restaurant with this mentality exist? I won't be going back and I advise you not to.

Such a shame as we were there for a birthday celebration- food was pretty good but the staff couldn’t have made it clearer that we were inconveniencing them. At 9pm they turned off the music & all hovered near us making it abundantly clear they wanted to finish up… One actually raised his arms & yawned… I know it was a Monday night but seriously! If you’re after good customer service, I’d probably give it a miss….

Raw scallops, waiter took food back to only bring back and tell me the chef said they were fine. Raw and cold inside when the waiter then agreed they were not cooked. First and last time at this apparent seafood restaurant

For us who wanted to exprience Fish and Chips and fine dining combined it was a no brainer to try this Restaurant. The food is just to die for. We`ve had beutiful delicious starters ( tried scallops for the 1st time and it was just yummy). Fish and Chips were so fresh and crunchy. As dessert we`ve had an almond tart which the staff had recommended as it was freshly baked and it was heavenly. If you are at the Seafront in Brighton a must try Restaurant

Cosy seafood restaurant in Brighton with very good service and seafood. Ordered the seafood platter and it was very worth it.

Came here for 1st and definitely not last time ! Food was amazingly tasty, staff was friendly and very fast, the atmosphere was perfect. Well done to all involved.

The seafood was amazing! We had their mussels, minestrone soup, calamari, and scallops. Everything was amazing. The calamari had the perfect amount of crispy and the breading wasn't too thick or heavy. The mussels had a great sauce they were in that wasn't too overwhelming. The scallops were also well seasoned without being too much and the minestrone was perfectly hearty and flavorful. We had 2 different martinis and they were both delicious. The staff was so nice and welcoming. They checked in and we're so happy to hear everything was good. So very nice!

蛤蜊意面味道非常不错，前菜的蒜蓉虾非常棒，薯条好吃。招牌海鲜饭味道没有预期中的美味，有些失望。海鲜拼盘的鱼都非常柴，没有汁水。

Avoid this place. The service was rushed and the food came stupidly fast, clearly it was reheated. We had 6 oysters and then the mixed seafood platter. The oysters were ok but the seafood platter was disgusting. The fish was overcooked and had no flavour, the scallops were inedible and the mussels hadn't been cleaned properly. This is clearly a tourist trap. Also the staff were extremely loud having a laugh between themselves and playfighting which in a empty restaurant was over the top, also it felt like they were didn't care and were just trying to get rid of you. Eating out is a treat and should be a special occasion. As a Brighton local, I will not be returning and I recommend you save your money and go elsewhere.

Staffs, they are all nice! It is little bit narrow but the atmosphere is nice! Especially near window ! It is ocean view :)! price is also affordable but the food tastes just okay :)

If you're near the sea, having fish is almost a must to get. Because of that, I chose to go to Regency Restaurant after seeing some previous reviews and it was by no means a mistake. It was fantastic there with excellent food and very friendly staff.

Had a meal for four on Dec 15 and the food was amazing . I had the fish pie and it was packed with fish and the best I’d ever eaten

Tonight's food was perfect calamari was fresh and hot and very tasty.i had it with asparagus which was perfect never had such good quality veg. anywhere.halloumi fries were well cooked and tasty. My husband had cod and chips( his favourite) and he was as impressed as me. We had profiteroles and spotted Richard again both were so delicious and enjoyable.Cannot say enough about this restaurant. Brilliant

Excellent bubbly and hot fresh cod and chips. This could have been improved by serving a fresh tartare sauce - not hard to make and switch to a decent brand of tea instead of a cup of ditchwater

Couldn’t recommend enough a little gem of Brighton. If you love seafood amazing service and a great vibe this is for you! The staff were so friendly efficient and the food arrived within minutes. Great atmosphere. I had the swordfish which I’d never tried before was very meaty like a steak. My wife had the scallops in garlic we also had the kinda prawns as a side. So fresh and tasty! We had a bottle of moèt so was a little more expensive but you could dine 2 people easy for £60 with tip if you didn’t have alcohol 😬 Parking is literally 1 minute walk so no bother there. Regency square Amazing in every single way 👌🏻

Unpretentious restaurant with quick service and quality food.

We have often visited this restaurant over the years, and have usually had a lovely experience. However it appears to have gone downhill! The waitresses were rude, and one of them had a very belittling attitude. No smiles. The scallop starter looked the part. However...

Went for my birthday it was absolutely awful the waitresses were quite blunt when they asked what we would like husband asked for a lemonade and she looked at him like it was wrong to order a soft drink, we ordered food and it was...

I think our picture tells you the story. Apart from the Cod which was just about eatable. The rest was absolutely awful and probably the worst fish n chips I've ever had. We came all the way from London to enjoy a fresh fish platter... and what we got was a plate of dried up awfulness. Never going here again. Everyone be warned this is a really bad fish n chips restaurant

Simply the best seafood in Brighton

The perfect seaside restaurant has been an Italian family run business since the 1930s. You are welcomed and waited on with perfection! The food is so authentic and fresh that it makes you feel warm and fuzzy inside x We had heard wonderful things and yes it certainly was a wonderful place to take our family to. The oysters were sublime, especially with a glass of champagne. Everything else we ordered may have seemed simple in the ingredients, but it was made with pure love and Italian culinary skills that are handed down from generation to generation. We felt privileged to be able to dine there, and the staff were extremely attentive and funny. It was buzzing in there, and nothing was too much to ask. I've never seen a service that good, to be honest. The drinks were on your on your table within a few minutes, and the food followed as quickly as you wanted it to even though it was packed, you were treated as if you only the ones there. We can't wait to go back. It's a proper treat, especially for fish lovers. Highly recommended.

Last experience was terrible. The old waiter didn’t want to allow us in just because my dad was in a wheelchair. Really disgusting behaviour.

We didn't even get through the door. It was opened for a couple in front of us and when we went to follow the guy just closed the door. Shame he lost our custom and will tell people not to go. How rude of him.

First time coming here. We ordered starters where the scampi come out ice cold *fingers crossed for no food poisoning*. Informed staff and they got it re cooked. Main meal was lovely.

Amazing server- did not catch his name as we were in a rush but he behaved so professionally when another older couple tried to cut in the line in front and he politely told them we were in fact first. Although we had to leave for an appointment just as we sat down, we will be returning!

Was recommended this place and it lived up to the hype! Staff were friendly and the fish and chips were really good! The cod was cooked perfectly (in my opinion!) And the chips were perfect with salt and vinegar! Definitely a place to come back to when visiting Brighton!

We stayed at a hotel Just right beside this hotel and in their brochure they recommended this restaurant, and after reading all the incredible reviews we decided to order from here. We got room service. Let’s just say this place did not disappoint. The sea bass arrived to our room nice and hot and well presented. The fish was Devine, and just falling from the skin. Just made perfectly. So soft. The Greek salad 🥗 small but delicious and added an extra flavour to all what was going on. Impressed and even better I could eat in my own room in peace and comfort. I would have liked the dishes to have lids over them, but not a huge deal. Highly recommend this restaurant if you like fish for sure.

The seafood was so fresh Ordered the fried platter and the seafood extravaganza platter Omg the extravaganza platter... I crave it often, such delicious succulent pieces of fish. Also the butter sauce? Phenomenal. Can't wait to go back
