Regency Restaurant in York

Best Chinese meal we’ve ever had in the UK! The seafood set menu was exceptional - the sweet and sour sea bass was something else! It was well worth the walk from the centre of York.

We had a delivery - and Friday really enjoy it. My dish (black bean beef) was ok, and thought the ribs and spring rolls weren’t bad. My wife thought hers was really unpleasant though and couldn’t eat it (crispy beef)

The food was excellent with good value for money as portion sizes were reasonable. The restaurant was well presented and the staff were very friendly.

Never order a take out from this place. Your order will be canceled after 1 hour of waiting. What a shame and disappointment.

The food is okay. I really do love the bbq ribs! They are the best bbq ribs ever, the sauce on them is incredible.

This is the only place in York we have found to offer dim sum, which we've had delivered a couple of times.We've had some quality dim sum in the past, and sadly this doesn't really compete, but its the only game in town so better than not having any dim sum at all.

Ordered off of deliveroo, came lat but was willing to let that slide, only if the food was good and pretty terrible, shredded beef was immensely hot, i know its a prefrence but cant see how people can enjoy that with a fire in theielr mouth, next was the beef in soup, was ok but not the best, and the noodles are disgusting, will never order from here again

I ordered a takeaway from here via Deliveroo and it came quickly, was still hot and was really well cooked/tasty. I tried the char siu buns that I had never had before and they were really tasty but my favourite was the chicken satay - the satay sauce was delicious. I think for the selection of different dishes I got it was good value for money and would order from here again.

Our son is living here while in Uni, decided to visit as he won’t be home for Christmas. Booked here and reading some of the reviews was a bit daunted. Not sure where these other people went but the food, staff and prices were great, staff very attentive and polite. Really enjoyed lots of different dishes and had a great night, there was no rush to throw you out. For five of us all we could eat about £100. Would recommend.

Absolutely appalling 3 times take away order placed, 3 times their driver cannot find us, directions given on every occasion, only 15 house so not that difficult to find, gave them a 3rd chance. They hav e blown it we only live 15 mins from restaurant, took them 1 half hours therefore by the time it arrived in edible , don’t order a take away delivery, you will go hungry

I was very disappointed to receive a tofu dish which arrived in a gelatinous substance. The food was overpriced.

Visité con mi esposa y tres hijos (17, 14, 12) durante su estadía en el cercano Staycity Aparthotel. Aproveché el esquema de "Eat Out to Help Out" a mitad de precio para pedir todo lo que puedas comer en el buffet. Ya sea debido a restricciones de convivencia o a la práctica habitual del restaurante, el buffet no estaba preparado para el autoservicio, sino que los platos se pedían individualmente de un menú especial y bastante completo. Esto incluía más variedad que muchos bufés verdaderos. En consecuencia, la comida estaba preparada a pedido y súper fresca a la llegada. A pesar de que esto ralentizó un poco el ritmo (aunque no de manera inaceptable), fue una experiencia más relajada y menos apresurada que un buffet típico. Las críticas no fueron exactamente alentadoras, pero decidimos visitar durante nuestra estadía en York, ya que estaba al lado de nuestro hotel. El restaurante no estaba lleno ya que era tarde, pero disfrutamos mucho de nuestra comida y el personal fue muy atento en todo momento. ¡Teníamos la opción de todo lo que puedas comer y prácticamente tuvimos que rogarle al personal que no trajera más comida! ! ! El personal rígido y serio deja en claro que todo el tiempo que pasan contigo es una pérdida de tiempo, lo que les impide hacer algo más importante. Si pides detalles como "¿cuántos platos puedo pedir a la vez?", Parecen asombrados de que aún no lo sepas. No me preguntaron si quería una bebida. Cuando me pidieron recomendaciones, mencioné partes de China que había visitado y me dijeron que "todo es lo mismo".El menú de "todo lo que puedas comer" tiene un precio tal que uno tiene que pedir numerosos platos para que valga la pena económicamente, y su táctica es descuidarte en un intento de asegurarte de que pidas la menor cantidad de comida posible para conservar su margen de beneficio.Tienen varios menús; El menú en chino parecía auténtico hasta que me lo quitaron, pero el menú anglicanizado de todo lo que puedas comer podría ser de cualquier comida china para llevar. My wife and I visited The Regency today. The welcome on arrival was first class. The All You Can Eat Buffet was as good as I have had anywhere. The service was friendly and quick throughout. Would definitely recommend.

Pedí mi comida con Deliveryoo a las 19. 50 estaba programado para las 21. 10, en 21. 00 salgo a esperar, a las 21. 40 envía un mensaje a deliveroo y pídeme que espere otros 10/15 minutos pero a las 22. 05 Recibí el mensaje de que mi pedido había sido entregado (disfrútelo) y envié otro mensaje diciendo que el pedido no había llegado, y me respondieron diciendo que revise las credenciales y que no obtendré un reembolso. ¡Ridículo!

Fui a almorzar con mi esposo hoy a las 12 del mediodía de hoy, ya había otras 2 mesas sentadas. La directora no parecía interesada en nosotros, tardó unos minutos antes de que nos dieran los menús. Nos dijeron que comía todo lo que podía y ordenaba pocos platos a la vez para no desperdiciar alimentos. Pedimos 4 platos, 2 se sirvieron correctamente, 1 fue diferente a lo que pedimos y el 4º plato no apareció. Luego, a las 12. 30, todos los chefs se sentaron en una mesa a nuestro lado y comenzaron a almorzar, hasta aproximadamente la 1 pm, seguidos por los camareros. Tuvimos que preguntar si podíamos ser atendidos nuevamente, y se tomó el pedido, que tardó media hora por solo 2 platos adicionales. Las tablas fueron ignoradas mientras el personal comía y conversaba entre ellos. Después de un tiempo, las 3 mesas se pusieron de pie y fueron al mostrador para obtener sus facturas. La directora comenzó a hablar en su teléfono móvil, ignorando completamente a todos.No tengo idea de qué concepto de administrar un restaurante es este, pero es el servicio más extraño y peor en un restaurante de más de 300 ciudades a las que hemos viajado a lo largo de los años. Nunca volveremos de nuevo.Una vez que la comida llegó, era buena ya un precio razonable, aunque pequeña en porciones.

Fuimos aquí después de caminar por York por un tiempo y luego preguntamos a un taxista que me recomendó este. Todo lo que puedas comer para 17 adultos. Mitad de precio para niños.Nos recibió un personal muy amable. Pides tu comida de un menú y te la preparan fresca. No nos podemos quejar de nada. Buena comida, bebida, servicio en el clavo.

After hearing good things from a couple of friends I wasn't put off by mixed reviews on here, and a group of six of us had the unlimited banquet which tbh everyone else in the restaurant seemed to having too. Service was top quality and lots of staff around ready if you need them. Food was unbelievable. Literally. Could not believe how good it was considering it was advertised as "buffet" so my expectations are generally lowered. Better than any Chinese restaurant a la carte I have ever been to, by a mile. Crispy chilli beef, salt & pepper squid and the duck pancakes were amazing. Drinks prices weren't exactly steep either, and they had a whole deli fridge of desserts and a selection of ice creams and fresh fruit. The manager introduced himself as we arrived to make us feel welcome and came over to say goodbye and gave us a nice warm handshake as we left. What more can you ask for?? You must be DIM if you don't visit SUMtime! (I offer no apology for that appalling pun.)

Cuando llegamos no estaba claro que, aunque el menú dice buffet, no hay comida en exhibición para elegir. Paga un precio fijo y puede elegir cualquier cosa desde el MENÚ. No queríamos una gran cantidad de comida y no queríamos pagar tanto (menos de 17), así que elegimos una comida principal cada una y una porción de arroz cada una. Estaba bastante sabroso pero también bastante salado. Después de viajar durante 6 horas, era una parada conveniente para la comida caliente pero no se apresuraría a regresar.

Amazing food.. also we had a misunderstanding as I did not explain my allergy properly and they were happy either to refund or to change my dish out of charge.. really really professional

So me and my girlfriend ordered a Chinese takeaway from regency and it was 30 minutes late and when it arrived it was stone cold and horrible, I definitely won’t be eating from here again. It made my girlfriend throw up in 5 seconds😡😡

We love love love regency...or shouldI say loved. We always order the same thing mixed starter for 2, a sauce and chicken fried rice. It arrived 30 mins late. The starter seems to of shrank in size and certainly not enough to share, luckily my other half only eats the starter and I pinch his seaweed and normally something I fancy....this time there wasn’t enough for me to pinch.....My chicken fried rice was cold, and I mean really cold.....We thought we had found a Chinese take away we could rely on.....Unfortunately we will be trying elsewhere next time. Such a shame

Este restaurante siempre parece ocupado, así que decidí probarlo. Muy impresionado. Tuve el 'todo lo que puedas comer menú' muy buena relación calidad-precio y puedes pedir tantos platos como quieras y una gran selección de comida. Había muchas opciones vegetarianas y todo fue excelente. No me puedo quejar y volveré pronto.

Went 10pm Saturday evening..only a table of 4 and us in....don't listen to all this rubbish about poor food or poor service....I eat in high end places as a rule...so was fearing the worst....but was great food.....what was funny was a lady sweeping the floor as we ate.but doing it carefully but bit strange!....but highlight was a young tall waiter who after serving us walked away and fell in a big heap on the floor!.....he maybe needed outpatients....but all he got was more food to serve us with!!!.....he was holding his arm like it was broken....poor lad but very funny....wonder if he tripped over the brush???!!!

The food is fine, no complaint there, but delivery is another matter. Our meal arrived 45 minutes after the time we were advised it would be 10 minutes late - 55 minutes in total. We did get 10% discount but this hardly met the disappointment, and I was past eating by the time it arrived. Very disappointing and this was not the first incidence. I'm afraid it's time to look for a better organised establishment.

Ordered through Just Eat, only slightly late but all the food (apart from the prawn crackers) tasted terrible and all of us feel sick this morning. To be avoided.

Met my brother and partner in York and went here on his recommendation I wasn't disappointed. Even though it was very busy we were served promptly with piping hot beautiful cooked food. Could not fault anything. Very relaxed cant wait to go back.

Great service, manager stopped us from selecting set menu to have cheaper all you can eat one instead. Great value and lovely taste.

We came to York for a week away at last minute, staying in an air bnb. We decided first night to get take away and looked on trip advisor for Chinese’s near us, the regency came up near the top so we just went with it. Everything we ordered was brilliant and it came quite quickly too.

My friend and I decided to go for a Chinese as a last minute decision on our way home. All in all the evening was going well - the food was actually really good but the service was shocking. I don't expect to be told by a waiter that my friend and I looked too miserable for eating there and that he expected us to be looking like we were actually enjoying ourselves - first off, we were actually really enjoying the meal and having a great conversation all night and second of all it's absolutely none of his business whether or not the customers seem miserable or not. I can appreciate that it must have been a long day for him and we were at the very end of the shift but I'm sorry that's no excuse. We were told we could only order off the all you can eat buffet service with starters first and then mains which seemed a bit odd considering it was an all you can eat and then he seemed to get annoyed with us because we only ordered like 4/5 (small) dishes each - I apologise if that seems too little but if you're full then you're full you can't exactly help it! I think maybe he was just trying to have a bit of banter but it came off really badly and honestly when I go for a meal I don't expect any pressure to be put on me to look happy for the waiter's sake, order far more than I can eat despite paying the same set price, feel pressured into giving a tip at the end and snide comments being made throughout the night aimed towards the both of us. If you're going to go, order a takeaway and save yourself the hassle.

Travelled an hour to eat here. Arrived to be told we were on a time limit and had to leave by a certain point- not even giving us an hour to eat! We were seated next to a huge table of what seemed like hooligans! Shouting and cheering every 5mins! Language barriers were shockingly embarrassing with staff! Menus were so disgustingly covered in food had to ask for clean menus before even ordering. Rice came out first, then one main came out 10mins later and then out came other parts of our order again 10mins apart so everything was stale and cold. Had to ask for our last side 5mins before our time limit was up because it still hadn’t been brought out. Not at any point had we been asked if everything was ok or if we wanted anything else! Upon paying, staff were very rude!! Again hadn’t even asked if our meal was ok and they tried to charge us for extra drinks we had not had!! Stay away!! Shocking service!! Disgusting food!! Giving one star is still too generous!!

Vinimos aquí ya que nos estábamos quedando al otro lado de la carretera en los apartamentos apartcity, así que estaba a 2 minutos a pie. No se desanime con la oferta de "todo lo que pueda comer" y los horribles sofás de cuero descolorido en el área de espera. Una vez dentro, examinamos el menú y, aunque el camarero me ofreció ayuda, estúpidamente dije que estaba bien. Entonces todo quedó claro. Esto no es un buffet. Puede ordenar sus entrantes que luego se sirven. A continuación, puede pedir platos principales o más entrantes y mezclar y combinar como desee. La comida era excelente y muy buena relación calidad-precio. Sin duda recomendaría una visita e iría por la oferta "todo lo que pueda comer", pero no se superpongan, ya que hay una letra pequeña de que el exceso de residuos se cobrará a la tarifa completa. food was terrible, most things tasted the same and bland, wasnt fresh clearly been sat there awhile. Wantons werent cooked properly still raw in the middle! Staff are rude and try and rush you out.

Part of a Chinese supermarket (that seemed to provide the restaurants raw materials) the Regency is a restaurant much frequented by local Chinese which we discovered 15 mins after we arrived-always a good sign. We went for the simple £18/head banquet which was far from simple being one of the best Chinese meals we’ve ever had- and we’ve had lots. Highly recommended.

Came here with a friend befire the ricky gervais gig at the barbican for convenience more than anything but pleasantly suprised. Looks abit dodgy from outside an old pub with neon lights. But domt be put off. Friendly service and good food. We had the 14.99 buffet and they took your order from a menu and cooked it fresh in the kitchen. Never had a buffet like this before and prefered this idea to food sat in bowls for hours not being replaced. You can have as much as you want. The food was of good quality the peking dumplings were probably the best dumplings I've had. Could easily eat plate fulls of those. All in all satisfied and would go back. I'd probably give the place 5 if a salt and pepper rib wasn't cold in the middle but didn't put me off.

Visited the restaurant on a Monday without a reservation and 5 of us were seated without quibble. All you can eat menu was delicious and service was excellent. Within walking distance of the city centre and Staycity aparthotel. Would recommend this restaurant and would most definitely visit again. And we got complimentary umbrellas which my daughter was very excited about. Thank you!

The restaurant is nicely set out. The staff are friendly and welcoming. My wife and I chose the all you can eat buffet. Its a great deal and excellent way they do it. You order a dish you want, two at a maximum if you want. You eat those dishes and then order more if you want.Any dishes less than half eaten are charged at full menu price to reduce wastage.

A group of me and my friends (around 10 of us) went to the Regency Chinese for lunch and had a lovely meal from the buffet menus - we were told all the ramen dishes had fresh, hand-pulled noodles and the service was excellent!

Ordered 4 different meals to takeaway.. not so great .. fried rice was fried yet stodgy with peas..as for the chicken curry!!! Inedible..watery with no taste at all. Yuk. Noodles one big lump..Asian curry ok and vegetable curry ok..chips hard..

Visited as a party of 6 on the 15th of March.All had the all you can eat menu which was spot on - how they make any money at this place i dont know. Visited at 4:30pm and the place was already filling up. I dont get to York often but when i do will be back!

My god it was awful!So first off, the parking was difficult. Then I saw bags of waste just behind the carpark and this chef was just smoking a cigarette and not caring whether the food was on the floor. There was like oily stuff on the ground and it smelled bad.

Had a meal here yesterday with my girlfriend. We both had the buffet deal which was choosing as many things as you'd like from a separate menu to a la carte. The food was very nice, and great value. The service was very friendly too!

Delightful and not nearly as sweet as the anglicised versions. Lots of very authentic (if not appealing to me) dishes such as chicken gizzards, but the food we had was wonderful and given that it was just around the corner from the Barbican Theatre it was an absolute steal!

Called in looking for a nice meal. Seen the reviews and we were apprehensive. Staff were great, friendly and helpful. Food was excellent. Food was not anglicised , it was very authentic. Nice relaxed , pleasant atmosphere. We were pleased a mix of British and Chinese guests using the restaurant.

I visited for the first and only time with my girlfriend. We were first seated below an air conditioning unit blowing cold air. As it was -3 outside we we didn't need cooling down.

Amazing fresh cooked food of choice. You choose from the buffet menu and they cook this food to an extremely high standard. Can’t fault it. Worth every single penny of the £15.99 each. You shouldn’t be disappointed. Reasonable priced drinks and great service

I was greeted with a lovely smile, with courtesy, politeness and friendliness and the food was excellent and tasty, and arrived quickly.

Vine aquí con mi amigo para el té del sábado por la noche, no teníamos una reserva pero aún así nos sentamos de inmediato. Eran las 15. 99 para todo lo que pueda comer: en lugar de ser una ayuda para usted mismo, haga un buffet bajo las lámparas calentadas, todos sus platos se ordenan y se llevan a la mesa ... ¡ideal!

The food was actually very good and then it all went down hill. Flat coke , toilets needed a good clean , some of the staff were unfriendly and abrupt , they also had issues with the credit card machine.

Been here twice now for food and karaoke. Terrible service, most of the draught beer was off, had to pay cash only which seems dodgy. There was no working tap in the bath room, raised this with staff but doubt anything will be done. Karaoke machine is limited . Some songs lacking words! And it appears that certain bands have been censored , so it is probably a very genuine Chinese machine. Gave it enough chances, won't go again.

We visited The Regency on Sunday Evening. The food is lovely and nicely presented however the drinks were very flat and tasteless. We did find some of the staff a little abrupt. Toilets could've been cleaner.

The restaurant staff were so rude and very abrupt. The food was lovely but the staff and there attitude massively let them down. The food was brought at different times and no one ate together. The lighting in the restaurant is very dim. Very unhappy with the service we received from the staff.

You can tell the quality of a Chinese by it's prawn toast and this place delivers.

First time to dine here but it won't be our last. Have eaten at many all you can eat Chinese buffets as that's our favourite and this is one of the best we've had. Was busy with locals when we arrived (always a good indication for us) staff were great and very helpful. The food very tasty and all came together. A problem that some restaurants seem yet to master. We decided to have the lunch menu which was more then adequate for what we required, was still an extensive menu to chose from and offers the option to create your own dishes. The cheaper menu doesn't include duck dishes, prawns or the more specialised dishes as dumplings but for £10 a head you wouldn't expect it. We certainly didn't feel that we had missed out on anything by not having the full menu. Saying that, we are going to be returning shortly to sample the larger menu and we can't wait. If you like your Chinese food you'll love this one, the food is really tasty.

Had an 'all you can eat' meal here early evening 13/6/18, we arrived at a time when the restuarant was very busy and the service was a little slow which was understandable.

Came here with some friends for a Chinese Hot Pot and we were seated upstairs, where we had to wait around 30 minutes for our drink orders to be taken, and around 40 minutes before food orders were taken. We were told that we can get the attention of our waiter by pressing a doorbell button in the room, but after pressing it four times over the space of 30 minutes nothing happened. One of us ended up going downstairs to get someone to wait on us.

We had the buffet. Fair price and ok food. Good enough customer service but staff struggle with English which I don’t have an issue with but makes it awkward when ordering etc... Would maybe try again but noting amazing is dragging me back

I have been to this restaurant on two occasions now and would advise anyone to give it a go. For the price and the fact the food is cooked fresh this place can’t be dismissed. The food is also really nice (apart from the ribs which are cheap and nasty and the BBQ sauce is nasty)

Visitamos el Regency restaurante chino con mi esposa durante nuestra estancia en Nueva York. Optamos por el "todo lo que pueda comer", no porque nos menú tenían hambre, pero porque contenía todos los platos que habría tenido ordenados en el menú a la carta a un precio muy competitivo.

Llegamos a este por casualidad. Originalmente en nuestro camino a Waitrose para conseguir algo de comer cuando mi hijo, que es de 8 años, pedimos tallarines y señaló a este restaurante mientras estábamos en el semáforo. Estuvimos de acuerdo en ir, hacer que nuestra visita a una familia de cuatro con nuestro hijo menor siendo exigente con la comida.

Visitamos aquí antes de atender el Barbican York para un concierto. No nos reconoció cuando entramos y tardo incluso para ser notado para conseguir una mesa. El servicio era lento y, a pesar de estar más allá de todo lo que pueda comer, a parte de la comida nunca incluso salió. Cuando la comida no parece que era mediocre. Pedimos unas bebidas que nunca apareció y al final nos rendimos. Cuando quisimos pagar nos paramos ahí hasta por 10 minutos, logrando incluso de ser reconocida. No lo recomiendo y no volveremos.

We've used this restaurant several times and the food is, in general, quite good but perhaps not the best. Some dishes are a bit lacking in flavour (eg. spare ribs) others are very tasty (king prawn curry for example). The "eat as much as you like" menu is quite good value, and if you think the portions are small, just order some more.

We arrived in York at 5 and we stumped for ideas of where to eat, seeing as we hadn't had an all you can eat for a while we decided to come here for the night.

I went here today (Sunday afternoon, around 2PM) as a group of four, myself included. The food was... acceptable, but by far not the best Chinese food I've had (not even close to the average standard of Chinese food that I've had). It was overpriced, too.

my husband, myself and 14 friends and relatives went to the regency for our silver wedding anniversary meal on the 20th feb. The place was packed , you dont expect places to be so busy on a tuesday night. we had a lovely evening, the food is superb, we all had the £15.99 as much as you can eat, not a luke warm buffet but each dish cooked to order. They brought platters of starters out which included chicken skewers, spring rolls, seaweed,crabs claws and the best prawn toast i have ever tasted, then came the duck pancakes , i had salt and pepper king prawns , some had soup, chicken wings. I think between us we had everything off the appetisor menu. Then on top of all that main courses for anyone who could fit it in. To sum up , the food was delicious, top notch and plentiful, the venue is pleasant. The service was good, considering how busy it was , if your in a rush go elsewhere, it suited us fine ,we always had food on the table we could chat in between courses , the staff were lovely. We will definitely be back and would highly recommend. Thank you Regency

Went to restaurant two years ago when visiting York and returned their on Monday night.

Tried to find a good Chinese with friends and was recommended to this restaurant by the taxi driver ( first mistake ) . Most bizarre restaurant I’ve been in , Karaoke on the wall as you are eating and the dirtiest fish tank since I watched Finding Nemo . Food was out too quick and not warm enough ? Horrendous and glad I wasn’t ill the following day to be honest . We did laugh at the time though but avoid

Very clean, excellent service. The food was very well cooked and not greasy at all. The staff were very friendly and couldn't do enough to make our meal a pleasant experience. The restaurant is just outside the walls of York center so not too busy which made it a calmer atmosphere.

Just got back from a family meal here. The food was good they had a great selection and the food was authentic. However the service is shocking hence the 3 stars!

Not sure who the people are on this site who have given this place 5 stars. They really need to get out more!!This place is VERY downmarket with upmarket pricing. Food was of poor quality and cooked with so much MSG as to make it virtually inedible. All dishes looked and tasted remarkably similar and arrived at different times. One had clearly been heated in a microwave!Service was slow and a waitress had to be asked to take a drinks order, had to go to counter and wait while bill was prepared in an otherwise empty restaurant.Overpriced for what was already a very poor experience.Far better Chinese restaurants in York despite what some of the rather dubious scores on this app would suggest!
