Reds Restaurant in Staffordshire Moorlands

Sunday lunch and deserts were superb. We felt so comfortable here. Bar service was ace and the restaurant service equally brilliant. Can't believe we live in Forsbrook and this is the first time. We'll definitely be back here again. Loved it.

Well, what can I say about this experience. In January 2023 I wrote a list of the top 20 restaurants in Staffordshire according to TripAdvisor and this place was 19th on that list. It's the day of our wedding anniversary so I thought we'd give it a go. Walking in the pub, it was busy at the bar which we walked through to the dining room which was in darkness. A guy at the bar told us that the pub no longer does food other than on a Sunday, but try The Royal Oak at Dillhorne. As I walked back through the bar there was someone eating a sausage roll at the bar, and as we left, a woman was in the doorway on the phone and I heard her say 'yes please, and can I have chilli sauceon that' so that's 2 people that maybe would have eaten at the restaurant has it been open. I toyed with what rating to give this place as I spent more time buying milk on asda than I have in this pub, but 1 and 2 star felt unfair because I can't based it on the food I didn't try and I can't give 4 or 5 stars because I left hungry.

We held our mum’s wake at the Red Lion. Mandy and team were very helpful in organising the event. As we arrived at 1pm we had sole use of the pub until 4pm. There was approx 60 plus of us attending and we had a nice buffet of hot and cold food with desserts, tea and coffee too. The children enjoyed playing in the secure beer garden too. We would recommend the Red Lion to others as a venue for a wake. Thank you

Stopped off on our journey home on a Sunday. We had Sunday roast which was really nice and they made a gluten free roast dinner for my coeliac son which he really enjoyed. The staff were all really welcoming and friendly too.

Celebrated my 60th birthday at the Red Lion, the food for the buffet was amazing! Hot and cold food, a great variety and accommodated for dietary requirements. The atmosphere was amazing and all my guests commented on what a lovely venue with great food. I was able to make the room special with balloons and decorations, and my guests enjoyed time both inside and outside in the lovely garden area! The kids particularly liked watching the cows! The owners of the pub went above and beyond to make sure my party ran smoothly and were the best! A big thank you to all the staff, see you soon :)

Called in on the off chance and we had a Sunday roast absolutely delicious, the Lamb and Turkey was perfect and so was everything else that accompanied it. The staff were excellent and made sure you had everything you needed and with a smile, which makes a big difference. Would 100% recommend and definitely will be returning.

Just arrived home from a wake for a family member held at The Red Lion. Mandy and her team ensured everything went perfectly. The place made us most welcoming with roaring fires, bottomless teas and coffee and thoughtful background music. The food was absolutely delicious and plentiful with hot and cold dishes and beautiful desserts. Nothing was too much trouble for the host and staff. If anyone has a need for any occasion I cannot recommend The Red Lion enough. Thank you Mandy.

Found this beaut of a pub on Tripadvisor while we were in the area. Wow! The reviews are spot on. The food; we had a Sunday Lunch, it was delicious - lots of meat, veg was perfectly cooked, asked for a Yorkie on my ‘non Yorkie’ meal and this was happily facilitated, along with a little jug of extra gravy on all plates. Our lovely waitress, we didn’t get her name, was so friendly and polite, as was the bar staff. Some of these ‘off the track’ pubs can be a little ‘indifferent’ but you guys were just great. Food: 5, Service 5. Happy to recommend and we shall be returning.

Came in late January 2023 for Sunday lunch with the family. Easily the nicest local food in the area, very pleasant staff who were also great with the children. We will be back.

Arrived today with our party of 10 for Christening eve lunch. Unfortunately it was pretty terrible, long wait for food despite being pre ordered. They forgot the chil meal so we had all finished by the time that arrived and though they did knock it off the bill, that wasn’t the issue. The Yorkshire pudding wraps were hard, the beef very over cooked and the Christmas meal portions were very small. Service was very very slow too and the restaurant wasn’t busy. Would we eat there again…no we wouldn’t I’m sorry to say.

This was our first visit under the new management and we were disappointed. After not being seen to for over 10 minutes, I went to the bar to order some drinks. When our order for food was eventually taken, we were told that the pie night offer was no longer available (also apparently a surprise to the waitress who had only just been told. Having booked the table a week ago in order to come for the pie night, I found this very poor. We also heard three other tables asking about it as well. We were told that the restaurant wasn't busy enough anymore to warrant pie night. I counted 30 guests in the restaurant during the time we were in there (which wasn't very long at all). Pie night would surely be an incentive to attract more customers. When our food arrived (lamb and chorizo pie and lasagne), it tasted nice (which is the reason for the three stars) but the portion sizes were very small indeed (my husband's pie was very shallow). Overall this was a disappointing experience.

We have eaten at the Red Lion a couple of times, always good, great hospitality! We went for Burger Night and stayed for the music quiz, what a treat, the burgers were lovely as always. The quiz was brilliantly put together, we thoroughly enjoyed it, well done Mandy, Daryl and the staff 👏👏

We held an 80th Birthday party here at the weekend and it was the perfect place. We had a three course dinner for almost 30 people - we were pleasantly surprised seeing the menu options because it was such good value and on the night, the food was amazing…really tasty and well presented. The steaks were cooked exactly how everybody asked for them. It was also a very good speed of service, no one was waiting too long but it didn’t feel rushed. The atmosphere was wonderfully relaxed and the service was superb - nothing was too much trouble. The whole planning process was easy and Mandy was very accommodating to anything that we asked. We would definitely not hesitate to have another party at The Red Lion.

Sunday lunch was absolutely superb. Food was delicious. Beautifully presented. Attention to detail from the staff was second to none (particularly the lovely, friendly Charlotte). Definitely returning again next Sunday and many more to follow. Mandy and Daryl were excellent hosts. They have made the pub look very welcoming with beautiful bedding plants and hanging baskets.

Not been before so thought we'd try it out and really glad we did. It was pie night, home made good food and at £11.50 including a drink good value too. Really friendly staff and desserts to die for, what's not to like.

This place is my favourite semi local restaurant. Though I live 12 miles from it I still make at least one visit a week for its succulent fare.NOW we have lockdown so the restaurant is not available BUT takeaway rules from Thursday to Sunday. Still a good wide menu, still great food at good prices and still a personal touch from great staff. Their attention to detail in observing the Covid 19 issue is also assuring and commendable.Book your spot and enjoy a good meal "out".

Takeaway was absolutely delicious! Can't fault anything at all. The meat was beautiful and tender and the peppercorn sauce- wow!!! It was all cooked to perfection and VERY tasty! Puddings to die for! Booked a takeaway slot for Sat 5th Dec (you have to get in quick!) and we weren't disappointed. Ready on time, and just needed a little bit of reheating cos we prefer our food HOT!! My husband and I have just finished our first take away roast chicken dinner from the fantastic Red Lion. On entry my husband was greeted by name and handed our order promptly and professionally, as ever.Each of the components were packed in well thought out and considered packaging - no nasty melting polystyrene boxes.The food was hot enough to serve straight onto warmed plates.The chicken was beautifully moist, the gravy plentiful and lush, the roasties and yorkshire still crunchy - well done on that! The mixture of veg was beyond first class, the nutmeg in the cauliflower cheese showed real class and thought, The stuffing was deeeelish too and I do believe I detected a hint of red wine therein?, either way it was totally gorgeous.We have stayed at hotels for Xmas day and not experienced a meal as delicious, well presented and portioned as perfectly as this.We finally moved onto the desserts...triple chocolate mousse and snickers cheesecake......utterly sublime!We are 2 very happy customers, with very content tummies - the Red Lion is a total gem and deserves all of the success it has achieved and each of the accolades their content and grateful customers bestow upon them.A privilege to have such an excellent establishment in Cheadle - please make sure you use this fabulous place! What a delicious roast beef Sunday dinner. First time we have had a roast from here but not the first time we’ve had takeaways - which are always delicious too.Plenty of beef, lots of gravy, great selection of streamed veg, roast and mashed potatoes, red cabbage, cauliflower cheese and not forgetting the big Yorkshire puds. There is normally stuffing as well but we didn’t want any. All served in separate containers so you could plate it up yourself. Will definitely have another roast from here in future. Food top notch as always - homemade and delicious, all necessary steps taken to comply with social distancing and service absolutely fantastic - I had my children in the car and they brought the takeaway out to my car to me. What fabulous take away food!!! We have used the Sunday lunch take away service a few times during lockdown and can honestly say we can’t fault it!!! The food was hot, delicious and the portion size very generous! The customer service was brilliant too. Ordering process is super simple, then just turn up at the agreed collection slot and collect your food! Fabulous! Please keep up the hard work, it’s really appreciated. We are so lucky to have such a gem of a pub on our doorstep!

Pre-lockdown, we would visit regularly for meals. We have never had a bad meal. The staff are very friendly and it's great value for money. Since lockdown, we have had a takeaway every weekend for the last few weeks. Very easy to book. Great choices. I am gluten free and the menu has lots of options for me. The stone baked gf pizza's are the best I've tasted. So lucky to have this a very short drive away!

The before was Tuesday for Chicken supreme and Lasagne. It really does not matter what you choose at this venue it is always so good. On to Friday with Lockdown and Takeaway. Fish, chips and mushies. It may be cheaper at the local chip shop but the quality is super. Flavoursome and the closest thing I have tasted to my boyhood Fish and Chips in many a year.Oh yes, service and people top class. Covid protection thorough, you feel safe.

Amazing Pizza! Had the deal 2 for £15 and it was so nice! Would recommend the Piri piri. None of the pizzas were greasy and were really fluffy.

Our first time going to the red lion, (we visited on the 16/10/20) and we weren’t disappointed! Food was absolutely amazing, the staff were great too. The measures they have set for COVID were clear and easy to follow, staff were informative from the very beginning. The place was clean and tidy always. Lovely home cooked, 5 star quality food. Amazing meal with the family, unfortunately didn't want to risk having a starter as I knew I had to go for the cheesecake for dessert. Opted for the Ribeye steak with Blue cheese sauce, cooked perfectly and it's ben a long time since I've had one rested in garlic butter! (finally). Definitely a place to visit on your travels for a decent meal, next time will have to go for the pies!

Delicious birthday meal - our favourite place when choosing a local meal out. Food is always outstanding, presented beautifully and cooked to perfection. I had the sea bass and creme brûlée which is exactly what I had last time, but it was just so good I had to have it again. came in today for sunday lunch. warm cosy atmosphere. had a nice big table in the corner for the two of us. we both had starters and main course. all the food came out on hot plates. food was very tasty. I dont eat out too much as so many places are disappointing. this place was very good, no complaints. All the staff were polite and friendly (chatty). beer (Boom) was lovely. I really enjoyed it. great quality for a pub, and bill was £38 for two courses and one drink each for two people. Thumbs up from me.

We booked a table for four to celebrate my Mother in Laws Birthday. The four of us had eaten out the previous week elsewhere and that wasn’t the best experience but hasn’t been the worst. I feel since the Introduction of the new guidance for Restaurants, Pubs and Cafes have changed I think we all feel a bit nervous about keeping to the new guidance or we secretly are unsure what the latest guidance is...........rest assured these Guys will show you how it should be done!!We arrived for our pre booked reservation on time and was greeted straightaway and led to our table, we sat, removed our loving new face wear and settled in. A young lady then approached us ( I must add here that all Staff wear matching masks which all look clean and comfortable) she chatted about the Covid rules and procedures, discussed how we moved around the pub safely and then proceeded to talk us through the menu, talked to us about the new pizza oven etc etc, all whilst donning her mask and keep a safe social distance. None of this slap a menu on the table and leg it away as experienced at the last venue we attended. She then promptly took Our drinks order and instead of asking anyone else to prepare the drink, she did them herself and brought them directly to us.........it is at this point you realise The Management and Their Team have got it so right. The Manager then approached and again chatted about the menu and was happy to answer any questions or indeed change any items on your meal for you. Like the young lady who showed us to our table and the young lady who took our drinks order they all made us feel like normal. We ordered he left and the four of us all made comment on how they had all made an effort into making it such a lovely atmosphere whilst maintaining the new guidance and keeping us safe. Right on to the Food, for starters the In laws shared Gambas and the good lady and myself shared Dough Balls....both perfect, both well proportioned and were brought to the table quickly. The mains, one seabass, one rib-eye, two rump steaks. Well the steaks were cooked to perfection as well was the seabass. To summarise, booking a table - It’s straightforward and effortless, The Welcome - Effortless, The Staff and their knowledge of the guidelines and keeping you safe - Perfect, The Managment - Needs to hold seminars on “ how to conduct your business through these unusual times whilst still giving a slight taste of “Normality”, I know I have some applicants for him already. These Guys show you how it should be done. Thank You to All of the Staff, it was a perfect experience and we will be coming back real soon.......in fact I think our Children have already checked the pizza menu our for a takeaway

Visited here after a day at Alton Towers. We were starving and weren't disappointed with our food, my daughter said it was one of the best pies she'd ever had (BBQ Pulled Pork). Great service and friendly staff too.

Since moving up here in June we've struggled to find a local pub with good food . What can I say fantastic place plenty of covid 19 precautions in place . Lovely welcoming staff and excellent service we had blackpudding towers to start simply delicious and we both had steak for the main cooked perfectly and the peppercorn sauce was beautifully made. For dessert we had cheesecake and brulee WOW. So pleased we found this gem only 10 minutes from home . Thank you to all the staff and especially the chef . We will be coming again soon

Didn’t want to eat at the Alton Towers restaurants as I think the menu is limited. Found this on trip advisor and so glad we did, the food and service was amazing. The cookie dough dessert was amazing!

The people were very friendly and helpful as I have mobility problems they opened the side door for me. The Sunday lunch roast beef was beautifully tender with a great assortment of vegetables including a lovely red cabbage.I couldn’t resist a desert and the chocolate brownie with ice cream and raspberries just hit the spot.We will be back again.

We ate at the Red Lion a few weeks ago and as ever, had a great meal. There is lots of variety on the menu and a big selection of gluten free meals too including the pies. I had the mushrooms to start and then the fish and chips, would definitely recommend both!! Prices are very reasonable.Since reopening there is a clear one way system and plenty of hand sanitisers in both the entrance and the bar. Tables are nicely spaced out and staff are very accommodating. We felt very safe under the current circumstances.Staff as always were extremely friendly and attentive, not at all surprised you have to book in advance. Have recommended to friends and family and can’t wait to come again!!

We ate our evening meal as a family here, last week and it was fantastic! We ordered the gammon, thai green curry and a gluten free chicken supreme. The meals were a good size and we really enjoyed them. The staff were friendly and helpful. Definetly worth a return.

We ate at the Red Lion yesterday evening and were, as ever more than impressed. The 2 young waitresses were helpful, smiling and very professional. The food, prawns, mushrooms, followed by the gammon and a steak and red wine pie were delicious and beautifully presented, the Bailey's creme brulee was fabulous. Very well set up to accommodate the current restrictions, we had a wonderful evening and will return soon - the menu is brilliant.

Great to see what this pub has done since the covid shut down. Love the pizza oven and open plan prep area. Great to see the chefs making the pizzas. Easy and clear one way system and plenty of hand sanitizers about. Sat in the beer garden and loved the view. Not surprised you need to book a table. Excellent staff, management and friendly pub.

We've eaten at the pub many times over the last few years and never been disappointed. An excellent selection of gluten free meals including pies and pizza!! Leave room for a pudding

Came to the restaurant last week for the first time and wasn't disappointed. Felt very safe, the staff were very helpful and friendly and the food was amazing. Cant fault you guys at all - I will definitely be back!!

Sunday roast beef dinner takeaway, Was absolutely fantastic, From the perfect cooking of everything, to flavour and quantity, all cooked from scratch and fresh, outstanding. Just waited couple of minutes and came outside with our meal. The other menu items look absolutely amazing and will be trying very soon. The videos you post on Facebook are fantastic, gives us a great insight in how thing's are going in very difficult circumstances for you. Keep doing wat ur doing and you will go far

just got home from a great meal at the Red Lion the food and staff brilliant , it will definitely be our go to place for great food from now on

Where do i start? The food at The red Lion is amazing and even better that they offer a gluten free menu including pies, pizza and deserts!..Homemade, tasty, fresh, piping hot food and AMAZING deserts!...Matt the chef is so talented and Duncan and other staff are so friendly and welcoming

Just had our first takeaway pizza from the Red Lion. Absolutely amazing taste. Even watched Matt,head chef and owner, making them. He even took the time to explain how the oven worked and the technique used to throw the homemade dough. Love the new pizza preparation area great idea. Will definitely order again.

Stopped on my way back from Alton towers and ate in the beer garden!!Me and my friend both had the homemade pies with homemade chips and mushy peas.Both food and drinks very good value.This will become my regular pit stop on the way back from Alton towers.Keep up the good work.

We are very lucky to have this lovely family run pub/restaurant in our local area. We have come here many times regularly over the years and even had our engagement meal here. COVID sadly meant we could not eat in for a few months, but they are now back open and offer a new takeaway service of their freshly made wood fired pizzas, pies, cheesecake - you name it. Proper pub grub. We had the pizzas and some cheesecakes tonight as a takeaway for the first time and I have to say the pizza was one of the best I’ve had in a long time. The dough was so soft. I even made a couple of customisations which were no trouble at all. The cheesecakes were soft and creamy, I’ve saved half for tomorrow! From ordering the takeaway to picking it up - everything was a breeze with prompt replies via social media for the order & information provided. They have definitely thought through everything and carefully put all the required protective measures in place to ensure staff + customers are safe. I would not hesitate to sit in for a meal at the moment either. Thank you Red Lion for yet another fantastic meal, looking forward to coming back for more in the hopefully not to distant future.

A wonderful, delicious and safe evening out. First time out for all of us (my family and my parents) since March. We wondered what it would be like and we were not disappointed. Wash down/disposable menus, discrete glass/Perspex bar shield, hand sanitiser available etc. Everything was spotless, although this is nothing new for the Red Lion. All of the measures had obviously been put into place whilst thinking about customers wanting to come out for a meal and enjoy the atmosphere. Staff had been trained and maintained social distancing, served all drinks at the table etc. As always the food was delicious and exceptional value for money. It was wonderful. Visited the Red Lion whilst on holiday in the area and had a lovely evening. Staff and service was top notch,felt very secure with good social distancing in place. Food was delicious. All cooked really well and you could tell it was home made. One of the best pies my sister has ever had!! High praise!! Pizzas very a good and steak perfectly cooked. Thank you

We came today for Sunday lunch - the food was tremendous - 2 roast beef, veggie lasagne & mushroom & asparagus pie - the nicest pie I’ve ever had! Not a lot of room for dessert but managed to squeeze in the most amazing flake topped cheesecake - have to say again the nicest cheesecake I’ve ever tasted - excellent friendly service too - needless to say we’ve booked to come back again in a couple of weeks

This was our 1st trip out following all the restrictions with my 82 year old mum & 2 children aged 10 and 12. Thursday night is pie night (aswell as having a menu with freshly made pizza's and other pub meals) and we had a variety of pies (pulled pork, steak and red wine and chicken, bacon and leek). All I can say is those plates were demolished! The pies were beautiful. All freshly home made and with a choice of chips/mash/veg and gravy. The puddings were amazing too! We had a mixture of brownies and cheesecake. There is a childrens menu but my 2 found the main menu too appealing. Staff were so helpful & pleasant & made you feel very welcome. Measures also in place to make you feel reassured ie hand sanitizer/ social distancing/ booking system. I would highly recommend The Red Lion at Boundary. Thank you for a lovely evening.
