Red Skye Restaurant in Highland

It was OK but that is it. Burger was good. Cullen skink very good. Fishcake good. Mussels (18£)- lacked character, maybe they missed the wine on my dish, very watery sause- should be evaporated more. Desserts good but miniscule and badly overpriced (7.5£). On top of unjustifiably blown up dish prices, soft drinks prices high as well. I suppose this will be the way restaurants conpensating for covid restrictions at a cost of clients.

Great to see this restaurant busy on only its second day of indoor opening following covid restrictions. It was all handled very well and we felt safe dining here. The staff were lovely and the food was great!

A simply decorated restaurant that specialises in delivering fresh local food, specialising in fish but with some meat and veggie alternatives. Service is prompt and efficient from the one waitress who is totally on top of her job.

Interesting location in an old schoolhouse, easy to find off the main strip out of/in to Broadford. Friendly (and Covid secure) service & great food. We also enjoyed trying the local beer selection!

We visited the Red Skye restaurant to celebrate my birthday whilst on holiday in Skye. Our children had pre-booked (essential especially due to Covid19) for the six of us. The menu wasn’t large but had a really good variety of dishes made using local produce. It was very reasonably priced. I have to highly recommend the squat lobsters - they were to die for! The staff were really friendly and the restaurant had a really relaxed ambiance.

A 10 minute walk from our cottage, this was recommended by our owners and certainly didn't disappoint. Mary was a wonderful host and guided us through the locally sourced food on the menu. The Stornoway black pudding bonbons and the pan seared scallops were mouth wateringly good, followed by Ardgay venison burgers, a house speciality and mammoth sized, cooked to perfection. The restaurant very soon filled up its well spaced tables which contributed to the buzz within this old school house. Great local produce, treated with love and care, gave us an evening to remember. This restaurant is a must on any foodies wish list if you visit Skye. We will be back for more.

Chose this restaurant from reviews before realising it was .7 miles from our cabin. So great, will return. Not just for the food but the service was great. Loved it.

The restaurant was reasonably busy on arrival, with about 9 tables seated at the time. My first interaction with this restaurant was ordering a Skye blonde ale, unfortunately a Skye black ale arrived. Not wanting to cause a fuss I accepted it as an honest mistake and decided to try the black ale, which I must say I actually enjoyed. However this did somewhat set the tone, upon ordering a £22 dish of pan seared salmon I expected a good portion of high quality food. What arrived was what I would expect off of a child’s menu (and a small portion at that), what I would call half a fillet of salmon, on top of a small pile of wilted spinach with a sprinkle of chorizo and 2 baby potatoes cut in half. This could be forgiven if it was delicious, unfortunately the potatoes were completely raw and only seared on the surface, making them inedible and although the salmon was cooked well enough and was reasonably tasty, it was not incredible by any means and did not justify £22 price tag. Upon telling the waitress of the issue with the potatoes she was reasonably apologetic, however there was no offer of an adjustment to the bill or alternatively a free desert or something similar that I would expect from most establishments. My partner (who is vegetarian) found the menu very limited and had to settle for a tomato soup, which was actually a starter, due to the only alternative being blue cheese gnocchi. After paying for a pudding to try and satisfy our hunger, We left £45 poorer and still hungry. In total we received 1 ale, the small portion of salmon, a tomato soup starter (also small portion) and two small puddings.

After our initial booking to another place let us down we changed upon this place not far from where we were staying.The service was lovely, friendly and went through the menu really well - as I don't eat pork my dish was adapted as it is was all made as per order.I had the fish cake which was packed with salmon and haddock and I loved the citrus dressing. The other two had the tomato and lentil soup and both thought it was packed with flavour.My salmon main was fresh and succulent with skin crisped just perfectly.Their chicken and venison burgers were well received and the chips were amazing.Sticky toffee pudding was not overly sweet and met expectations.A pleasant and sated experience overall.

Me and my girlfriend ate here during our stay in Skye. We were super impressed. For starter we shared the squat lobster which we were told had come in that day... amazing. For mains we both had burgers which were equally as good.All food is prepared fresh and you can really taste it. Definitely worth trying if you are staying in Skye. It is worth booking in advance as it usually gets fully booked.Best meal we had during our whole stay at Skye!

Broadford is a two-mile long strip development. It was a 40-minute walk to reach it from the other end of the village but it was worth it. Anyway, we were on a walking holiday so an extra four miles did not matter too much. There were a few interesting things to see en-route.Red Skye is located in an old school house. It is not large so it feels homely and rustic. The service was friendly and professional. The menu includes quite a lot of locally sourced fish: Cullen Skink, scallops, mussels, fish and chips and there are meat dishes and they also do burgers, something for all tastes. Our food was well-cooked and fresh. We enjoyed our meal there and would recommend it to others. The only other restaurant in town proved to be appalling. Warning – they only take cash.

Best food we had in Skye. You got to book to get in. Make sure to take a face mask with you to enter with. Overall great experience and friendly helpful owner that takes pride in her restaurant. Food is freshly prepared and delicious. Kids has Squat lobster and fish cake and fish and chips were the best in the area and scallops were perfect and tasty on salad and lovely home made puddings to finish the meal with. Definitely worth a trip. Highly recommend

We are here during the easing of the covid-19 pandemic. We were pleasantly surprised by this place. It was one of the only places allowing people to eat in. The record and furniture in the picture made it look a little old fashioned but the food was excellent.We had the fish cake and wild mushrooms for starter and then the lasagne and venison burger followed by the sticky toffee pudding with an excellent New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc. 5/5 for Skye post covid. Would certainly go there again

Amazing wee restaurant serving fresh delicious food. We had fishcakes and mushrooms as starters and pan seared salmon as main course. Everything was delicious. My kids loved the beef burger and fish and chips. The sticky toffee pudding is delicious also. The local beers are very tasty too!

While traditional fare is well cooked the menu is like stepping 20 years back in time as there are no vegetarian options and it really doesn't cater for anyone who is lactose intolerant. This makes the venue problematic for family or group bookings as in our experience prior notice of particular dietary needs gets forgotten and staff are unappologetic. It was like being in a sitcom.

We landed here without an appointment. But as we were early, the hostess seated us. When the person of our B&B called to ask for a table, she had said it is full!We chose from menu on the board. Excellent food. Wine was good. But the beer was NOT cold. The bottle was opened before it arrived and we had to send it back.

Ho ordinato una fish cake che sembrava vecchia ed era piena di cipolla e aromi contrastanti. La steak sembrava una ciabatta, dura e insapore e vivendo in scozia da parecchio tempo ho sempre mangiato carne di ottima qualità, ma non qui. I desserts sembrano comprati alla coop. Un esperienza che non consiglio a nessuno.

We had just arrived on the Isle of Skye and were looking for a place to eat for lunch when we came upon this restaurant just on the main road.The restaurant was very homely and unpretentious inside if a little too informal for me.We ordered the soup (I forget what is was but is was excellent) followed by a Broccoli and Blue Cheeses Gnocchi, and Pan Seared Fillet of Salmon with Prawn, Caper and Parsley Brown Butter. Everything was well presented and very tasty so no complaints there. Well done ladies.Parking round the back was very easy - my only real gripe was that they would only accept payment in cash or PayPal which is very unusual and a little inconvenient.I would still recommend it. A trifle on the expensive side but then everything in Skye operates on elevated tourist prices

Just fabulous-it was a last minute choice without a reservation - though I would recommend one. It is small and simply decorated with a hint of rustic charm. I had the pan seared island scallops on a bed of greens with pea sprouts veloute, and my husband had the salmon on a bed of greens with browned butter, followed by sticky toffee pudding. I must say all dishes where to die for. Don’t miss out make a reservation.

What an absolute find for lunch. Good service wonderful food. Quite busy on a miserable Monday. Can only pay cash or by PayPal or there is a cash point at the Co-op down the road.Would definitely recommend here and the squat lobster was absolutely delicious thought I didn’t have room for a dessert but the sticky toffee pudding was very light and tasty.

This was our stop on our first night on Skye. The food was really good, scallops, black pudding, salmon, panna cotta. Service was good and staff friendly. We would certainly go back.

I am still surprised at how seriously incredible the venison burger was and I’m not even a burger person. It’s a must!! The staff were lovely too and very welcoming. Please book in advance to award disappointment.

Started off nice with a tasty, but over salted, starter but it went down hill from there. Even though an order was read straight off the menu in full the server got it completely wrong and delivered the wrong dish. As a result it was over a 20 minute wait for a burger that was undercooked on the inside (but this is obviously a stylistic choice by the cook as the other burger ordered was also almost raw inside and left that diner with an upset stomach since) - this family trip to Skye was a special one years in the making and, as we ate out only once in the evening for our holiday, this meal was ruined by the fact we couldn't eat together because of poor service. There was also no money off our order and no real apology.Aside from poor service the food is over salted and decidedly average for the incredible price. The burgers are almost raw inside and really shouldn't be when minced beef is concerned. No server asked us if there were any sauces we'd like or anything else we might want and no one stopped by to ask how our food was. The place wasn't busy either. Very poor. Wouldn't recommend.

We called in for lunch having prebooked (which is advisable). The restaurant was busy, and whilst our order was taken promptly by a very good hostess/waitress, we had to wait around 40 minutes for our food to arrive. The kitchen is small and only staffed by one person as far as we could see, and this limits the speed of output if it is busy. We had a main course and dessert. Beef blade as a main course was very tasty, and the burgers are of a good quality, but only a meagre serving of chips was forthcoming. The lack of green vegetables was a disadvantage. Belgium chocolate mousse as a dessert was good, but overpriced. There is a good selection of local beers and also a wine list/menu, but all drinks are expensive.

Affamati dopo molti chilometri in auto, ci siamo fermati al primo ristorante che era ancora aperto sulla strada. Oltre ad a confermare la educazione e gentilezza tipica scozzese servendoci oltre l'orario di apertura, abbiamo mangiato benissimo e siamo usciti contenti per la qualità. We had visited the area and couldn't leave without going 'over the sea to Skye' We passed the Red Skye Restaurant but it looked closed so carried on but decided to ring and were greeted warmly so we turned round. We ordered a bit extravagantly for a lunch time but we were on holiday!

Mussels were amazing. First lamb burger I’ve ever had and it was delicious. Hostess/waitress was really friendly and attentive. Two people had the fish and chips. They loved it.

A friend and I dined here last week on our journey across Skye from the Isle of Harris. We'd booked online in advance and confirmed our ETA en route... we knew of the 'cash only' policy as well as the need to arrive within 15 minutes of our booked start time, so thought we'd covered every base and looked forward to a great meal.

Wonderful meal and a very wide range of fare on the menu. We would reccomend this tasty spot to any one. We ould have given 5 stars but for the limited parking.nevertheless a gem of a place.

The burger was delicious and the mussels tasty. The bread that came with it was not great but for a place which was nearby it was lovely. Just watch you have cash before you go as we only found that out when we were about to pay. Nice people.

Firstly, the restaurant isn't in Broadford. It's in Breacais. Just took my group of nine there tonight. Excellent food, fine dining, in the modern Scottish style the makes use of seafood and other local produce with much influence from French, Italian etc. Had a lovely chanterel risotto, squat lobsters, Cullen skink... Fabby! They also keep Skye brewery ale in stock. I'll be back!

Absolutely top class food food and service. Yesterday we went for lunch and it was wonderful, from the Stornoway Black pudding Bon Bon’s to the salmon and beef. Every one in our party thought it was one of the best meals we have had. Nice relaxed atmosphere and the staff were lovely, well done. We will definitely be back.

We ate here twice in our trip to Skye - we ate in most of the good restaurants on the island but rated this our favourite as the seafood was amazing- really fresh and well seasoned - loved the squat lobsters in garlic and herb butter- bit fiddly but well worth it - and the scallops in curry oil were delicious.

The soup was ordinary, as was the salmon, and the hamburger was too simple but just fine. But the price ot it all was way too high for the quality and the low service (no cards).

Niettegenstaande we laat waren werden we zeer hartelijk ontvangen. Fijne en vriendelijke bediening. Heel lekker gegeten. Probeer hier zeker de Cullen Skink, top!!! Machtig goed hier!

We were recommended this restaurant by the lady in our b&b; just along the road. The food was great and good value for money. It was so good we ate here on both our nights in Skye.

We weren't extremely hungry so ordered the starter mussels, fishcake, and the scallops (specials starter) between the two of us. All three were delicious. So we carried on and ordered the lobster starter for myself and the black pudding bon buns for my partner. My lobster was good but a bit hard work, my partner couldn't stop raving about the bon bons. "Awesome" nearly ordered another plate.

My husband and I were staying in a holiday cottage in Lower Breakish and booked a table at Red Skye for 7.30 on a Saturday evening. We were surprised to be the only guests in the restaurant when we arrived. It feels a bit uncomfortable when it’s just you and the staff! Some other groups arrived later but it was quiet all evening. The cask beer wasn’t available but they had some nice bottles of local craft ale. We had scallops and black pudding bon bons for starters and salmon and a venison burger for main courses. The food was tasty and the staff were friendly. Card payments are not accepted so you need to take cash or pay by PayPal.

On our previous 2 trips to Skye we had visited and liked this place for the qualtity of food and value for money.

We arrived that evening in Skye and had just booked in to our accommodation when our hostess gave us recommendations for nearby restaurants and advised us to book ahead - so we did and in about an hour headed for Red Skye.

Helpful and efficient staff serving great food. Wine list good and sensibly priced Local beers for sale!

The two of us ate dinner three nights in a row at Red Skye. We worked our way through the menu and never had a bad meal. Everything was excellent. We were staying at a B&B; nearby without a car. Red Skye was the closest restaurant and we never felt the need to walk any further even though there are some other places nearby. The service was fine.

We were staying close to this restaurant and decided to visit it on our first night for convenience. We knew from reviews that it would be good but it's always nice to find out for yourself. Everyone in our party of four emerged replete and feeling that we had had a good evening and very good food. I had scallops to start which were succulent and tasty. I then tried the vegetarian burger (lentil and mature cheddar) which was accompanied by roast potato wedges. The onion jam was a very apposite foil to the burger. The Baileys cheesecake was a nice round-off even if the base was a bit hard. Beautifully chilled local bottled ale was a fine accompaniment - definitely recommend this place for a guaranteed first class experience.

We passed by this restaurant on our way to Portree in Isle of Skye. It was already 7pm and a least 1hr drive more to our destination so we decided to stop.

Ate here with friends on one evening during a week long stay in Broadford. It is recommended that you book a table in advance. Food was very good but a little overpriced and portions were on the small side. The restaurant had a peaceful ambiance

Cash only (or PayPal) restaurant in Breakish, but don't be put off food and atmosphere are excellent. We ended up going three times in a week to plenty of choice. Some highlights: beef blade, gnocchi with blue cheese, lentil and smoked cheese burger, salmon, chocolate mouse and panacota. Good range of wine, beer and soft drinks too. Book ahead though it's very busy.

The Red Skye is in a good location if you are staying in Breakish. It is quite small and doesn’t take advance bookings, so don’t arrive late. The first night, I had mussels and my husband had fish and chips, which were both good. The second night the fish and chips were sold out, so we had a beef dish, which we felt was overpriced for what it was, with a tiny portion of beetroot but no other vegetables. The beer was bottled and pricey. The welcome and service were both good; perhaps one or two additions to the menu in the mid-price range would be a good idea.

Wir hatten einen Tisch reserviert, das Lokal ist nett eingerichtet, doch auf der Speißekarte gibt es leider nicht viel Auswahl...wir hatten Lust auf Fleisch, das einzige Fleischgericht, das Rinderfilet, war ausverkauft und als Alternative gab es leider nur Burger...da wir keine Lust auf Burger hatten bestellten wir Jakobsmuscheln und danach Lachs, nicht schlecht, aber auch nichts besonderes...

Stopped by for a local seafood experience and superseded expectations! The Special of the Day was a Pan Seared Island Scallop with Fresh Salad and Curry Oil. Light but filling and delicious. The Sticky Toffee Pudding with Butterscotch Sauce was OUTSTANDING!!! Would highly recommend if visiting Skye!

We went to red Skye for dinner during our stay in Isle of Skye. This was probably one of the top three places recommended for eating out. The place has a snug and warm feel. The ambience was alright. The staff was courteous and helped us in placing an order, since we weren’t too well versed with a few things on the menu. The soup was perfectly flavoured, although might be a little thicker than our liking. For the mains the risotto was well made. And so was the chicken.

We stopped here on our return to Inverness, as the reviews were good. We nearly drove by it because it's so unassuming from the outside, but it's spacious and smartly-decorated inside.

The location it is really nice and familiar. Every dish we have ordered was cooked perfectly and seasoned nicely. The waitress is really friendly. I most definitely recommend this place

We chose the restaurant based on other reviews with the hope to have an excellent meal made from local produce, especially the much praised venison burger. Unfortunately staff informed us that there were no venison burgers available as "the chef didn't have time to prep them". Also we were looking forward to perhaps trying the black Isle Beef steak, but the menu was changed to peppercorn sauce instead of red vine juis. My wife not eating peppercorn sauce was unable to request any other sauce instead. So we settled for the black Isle beef burger, which although tasty was kind of strange as it fell apart into smaller pieces when trying to lift the burger. My starter of scallops (which turned out to be 4 small queen scallops) was accompanied by an unpleasant salad of rocket with parmesan shavings and chilli oil. Dry bitter, overall a strange combination. Both of us found the very same unpleasant salad as accompaniment to our burgers. So overall we were disappointed with what was to be great Scottish cuisine. However we had much better local food on Skye and feel that this might give Scotlands gastronomy a bad name, especially if its praised as some of best local food you can get

Visited for the third time in about as many years today, and for the third time it was shut! According to their website and tripadvisor it should have been open. Further clarification is needed on opening times/months for this restaurant.

My group reserved two tables at the Red Skye Restaurant. The bread they give you is the best bread I have ever tasted - we tried to buy more but they only make enough for one piece per person! Fish and chips were great and the chocolate mousse was to die for. Nice ambience, great service and menu, ample parking.

Var her en meget regnfuld aften. Bordet var ikke helt klar da vi kom. Det blev dog opvejet af den meget dejlige mad. Fik en fantastisk risotto til forret og rigtig dejlig fisk til hovedret. Vi var 5 i alt og hele bordet rundt var meget tilfredse med maden.

We had such a wonderful meal at the Red Skye restaurant that I wanted to come on and write a review! The space was cosy and quiet on a rainy night, the service was friendly and efficient, there was a nice drink selection, but the food was really outstanding. I was so pleasantly surprised by the quality of the meals. My husband had the battered haddock and chips, and I had the beef burger. Everything on our plates was cooked absolutely perfectly. Crispy chips, juicy burger, flavourful fish. One of the best meals we enjoyed in Skye!

Restaurant was previously an old school house but the food is thankfully much better than school meals and are served in a café type atmosphere. Be sure to reserve a table for dinner - only 1 person serving when we were here and only 1 chef on duty so numbers were limited and a few people turned away but both coped well.

We called here looking for a light lunch having just come over the Skye bridge. We were greeted by a charming young man who was happy to serve us. Three of us had sandwiches and one the cheeses. Because we liked the feel of the place we called for a hot lunch when we left the island. This time a lady served us. On both occasions we were warmly greeted and found very good food. Would definitely call again if on Skye and am happy to recommend it.

We had an excellent dinner here in a casual atmosphere but with well-prepared food. Even in September in mid-week, however, it was vital to reserve a table as with all restaurants we went to on Skye.

Equal to top fish restaurants in Southern Europe. Cullen Skink was brilliant, pan seared salmon was excellent. Good choice on the menu.

We stayed in a B&B; locates just a short walk from Red Skye and so we booked it for our first night on Skye. We loved it so much that we ended up dining there for all three nights of our stay.

Booking is recommended here as there are not many restaurants in the area but the food is excellent. The Cullin Skink is without a doubt one of the best I have ever tasted. Haddock smoked in-house makes a huge difference and it was chunky, rich and incredibly good. We tried it at other places on our trip and nothing came close to this one, the chef should be very proud of this. The Black Isle beef burger with the tomato and chili relish was fantastic and they have a good selection of local beers. They did not take credit cards at the time of writing but that is a minor point. Highly recommended if you are in the area.

We went to the Red Skye restaurant after a whole day of driving around the Isle of Sky. The restaurant is right off the main road in Breakish close to Broadford. Like most of places in the isle this is a small restaurant and appears to do no more than 1 seating for dinner making reservations essential. Small but good menu; on the pricey side. Few veg options - the butternut squash soup was delish!

We hadden gereserveerd gelukkig, want het zat bomvol. Bediening was prima, niet zo bijzonder als we hadden gelezen. De kaart is klein en speciaal; geen reguliere maaltijden. Heerlijke huisgemaakte patatten en dikke burgers, net een beetje anders. Betalen met paypal of cash. Aankleding kon wat gezelliger, maar qch. We hebben lekker gegeten!

Popped in at lunch time for something to eat and the Lady was very friendly and accommodating. We enjoyed the chat and would highly recommend it but have heard it would be wise to book in evenings.

Das Essen war leider sehr schlecht! Das Beef war nicht medium sondern well done. Beim Lachsfilet war der Kartoffelstock seeehr versalzen und obwohl meine Freundin Knoblauch mag wars einfach too much!! Aber was sehr nett war, man kam dafür mit dem Preis grosszügig entgegen.

Kleines aber feines Restaurant mit guter Karte und frischen Gerichten. Essen ist köstlich, Bedienung ok. Einziger Abstrich war am Ende des Abends als wir 3-4 (innerhalb 10‘) gefragt wurden, ob wir nun ready fürs Dessert wären und wir das Gefühl hatten, möglichst schnell den Tisch räumen zu müssen damit dieser nochmal vergeben werden kann. Ansonsten tip top!

There are not many restaurants in the northern part of Skye. As a result we missed lunch, had a coffee and cake at 3 o’clock in Portree, and dinner here at 6 o’clock when it opened. Although we only had 2 starters and a bottle of wine, the food was just right and the staff were friendly. Beautiful mushroom soup and very fresh mussels. Excellent!

In een oud schoolgebouw huist een heerlijk restaurant met supervriendelijke en professionele bediening en erg lekkere gerechten. Een aanrader!

Visited on Friday 10th August with my wife and son. We had reserved a table which I recommend as the place was very busy.

Petit restaurant à faire à l'entrée de l'île. Nous avons voulu le faire une deuxième fois mais malheureusement fermé la deuxième tellement nous avons été ravi la première fois. Carte courte mais plats variés permettant de ravir tout le monde. Des plats en supplément affichés au tableau pour compléter (peu de quantité ce qui prouve le fait maison). Très bonne adresse.

8 of us booked for my son's 17th birthday. When i made the booking they asked if it was for a special occasion and I mentioned the birthday. They offered to make a cake instead of having pudding and the chef rang me on the day to check what type of cake we would like. The cake was amazing and everyone loved it. The rest of the meal was fab, well cooked fresh and great seasoning. The scallops on black pudding and pea was so tasty.

Wij waren aangenaam verrast toen zich op een druk bezocht eiland langs een drukke weg een aangenaam rustig restaurant aandiende. We hebben hier een zeer goede lunch genoten. Als fietsers hadden we een gezonde eetlust. Erg aardig personeel. We kregen goede tips over de rest van onze fietsroute. Een absolute aanrader.

My wife and I phoned Red Skye and booked a table for 7:30pm. We arrived just before our time and were welcomed in to the Restaurant and shown to our table straight away.

It was a nice place to have a drink with family and friends. Actually we have been here last December, because it was a nice place, we come here again.

This small restaurant was bustling when we visited after 8pm on a weekday. It’s charmingly housed in an old schoolhouse right along the main road in Breakish. We waited for our table in a cozy adjacent lounge that had a piano, books and other activities. Felt like we could make ourselves at home for hours. Before long we were seated in the small main dining room. Service was prompt and friendly.

It was really delicious having dinner at the Red Skye Restaurant. You’re bound to book in as it is very small...but therefore you get top quality freshness with a servile touch. Will come back with the family asap...

Vi hade förmånen att bo bara någon kilometer från Red Skye Restaurant, och bestämde oss att äta där en kväll (vår värd rekommenderade att vi bokade bord, och det var tur att vi lyssnade på honom!). Maten var otroligt god och fint upplagd, inte alls vad man förväntar sig av en liten restaurang ute på landet. Personalen var väldigt trevlig och stämningen i den lilla lokalen var god.
