Red Pepper Restaurant in Highland

Great little place the restaurant is inside the hotel the food was exceptional I had the haddock and it was the best fish I ever tasted.

Ristorante-pub con doppio menù, per clienti più o meno esigenti. Abbiamo optato per quello più basico ma il cibo è molto buono comunque e le porzioni generose. Il personale è piuttosto loquace e nel locale si sta bene, anche per la buona scelta di birre dal bancone del pub. Con circa 25 sterline a testa si esce contenti.

Hands down the best dinner I ever had in the UK, with prices well below average. We Italians tend to be extra picky about food but this place has passed the test with full score 😀 I reccommend the cullen skink and the salmon with pancetta in particular.

Friendly and charming place. Lacks a little renovation but the staff makes us forget it. The food is OK for a pub, nothing more. I didn't have a WOW but no disappointment except for the Haggis. Sorry, I'm not capable.

Food was way too overpriced for the quality. I've gotten so much better for the price. Atmosphere also very sad. At least the service was nice, but it wasn't worth it

Unfortunately there was no more space in the dining room, so we were seated in the bar. But that didn't help matters either. The people here are nice and the food was great. And all for a small thaler. Gladly again.

Good food, good service but not a great ambience. For the price they charge I would have expected a really good ambience but it was a little dark with basic interiors.

You arrive, ask nicely if you can eat... and have the distinct impression of being a nuisance No one is interested in you, you ask again with a smile if you can have a beer, you are told to wait - normal - except that no one comes back to you So you end up going to eat in another restaurant, which will turn out to be much more welcoming! Rather inconspicuous from the outside, the Red Pepper impresses with its menu selection - fish lovers in particular are in good hands here, there is a changing menu with current fish menus. I tried the (unfortunately only) vegetarian dish on the menu, which was very tasty! The dessert, white chocolate cheesecake, was also excellent. Attentive & friendly service - clear emo error!

Had Langoustine as starter & Sirloin Steak as main meal..both were AMAZING! I'm from Australia so i am lucky to have nice steak there..this was the best steak I've had in many years!😜

Chose this place based on reviews whilst doing NC500. I needed somewhere special for my wife’s 50th and we were not disappointed. Easy to park near the hotel. The staff were attentive and professional. The place was clean and the food was fresh and delicious. The menu is limited but with enough options to choose from. The decor and ambience was a bit sparse although modern, however we came here for food and that was the star. Thank you to the staff we had a fantastic dining experience. Highly recommended.

We booked ahead for 7.30 but it took 45 minutes for our starter to arrive and 30 mins for our drinks (which we had to chase for). The starter was crab claws. It is usual for these to be cold however ours arrived blazing hot at 8.15 and the courtesy crack had not been done by the kitchen. They were far too hot to handle safely so this meant we could not crack them ourselves till nearly 8.30. By then all the other diners were leaving and when our main course arrived at 840 the staff started cleaning down all around us and re-laying all the other tables. The clatter of crockery and cutlery was awful, ruined the evening as we felt really unwelcome .It was evident the staff wanted to go home. We ate speedily and left.The food was nice but the service was dreadful. Could not recommend - this was supposed to be something of a seafood treat, it was not inexpensive, and we were very disappointed.

If you like seafood you will absolutely love it here, muscles, monkfish, salmon,prawns all great!

Little bit hard to find from the outside, but once you’re in they will serve you lovely dishes and drinks. Good restaurant with good food for good prices. Fancy a bite in Thurso, definitely try this place.

Really friendly and accommodating staff. We didnt book ahead but they still managed to fit us in. The black pudding for a starter was lovely, the steak for main amazing! Nicely hidden, wouldnt know about it unless you read trip advisor!

We ate here for 2 evenings whilst on our driving tour of the NC500. We arrived a little early but that wasn't a problem. The service was attentive and friendly and the food was amazing. I had the special starter of langoustines which were coooked to perfection. Then halibut then cheesecake. I couldn't fault any of it. On the second evening I had Mussels followd by salmon both of which were perfectly cooked. The downside of the evening was that there was a noisy group of 9 people but that's not the fault of the restaurant. I would definitely recommend this restaurant and if we're ever in this area again we would go back.

Amazing customer service. One lady serving at the bar and waiting on tables but we were attended to completely. Food was beautiful and fresh. Came out very quickly. Cannot complain. Great stop for NC500ers wanting a quick but lovely meal.

First of all drinks never came out until half way through our starter while after being prompted.. for the price of the starters I’d say it’s a joke you could hardly feed a snail with that portion. Then dinner came out and it was very bland and unseasoned.. the Sea bass was dry and the sirloin steak was tough and I had to ask for my chips as it’s supposed to come with the steak but they actually came after I finished my steak. All and all definitely not worth the price.

A lot of fish dishes on the menu - that's fine, personally I love it - but three of our party of six weren't so enamoured. Some dishes also feature on the menu in the Holborn bar next door and are cheaper there. It was a reasonable meal but there wasn't anything in particular that would make me say I was desperate to return.

close to our lodge and easy to find. pleasant dining area, the bar area a bit too noisy. staff seemed new but very helpful.. i had the grilled haddock and chips, my partner the monkfish. both meals were tasty and well prepared. We visited the Red Pepper Restaurant whilst completing the NC500. We did not eat out very much whilst completing the NC500, therefore, we did not have anything to compare it too. However, we found it very overpriced for what we received. For starter, we both had the tempura prawns - which had a very thick and hard batter around a very small prawn. It came with a small amount of salad with I reckon an entire bottle of sweet chilli sauce poured on top. For main we had the battered haddock, which whilst the fish was pleasant - the chips were barely cooked and the batter on the fish was incredibly oily. Following starters and main, we decided against having a dessert. The service was again "average." The waitress and waiter were present - but did not attempt to build any rapport with us.

One of the better restaurants to eat in Thurso. Preparing vegetables and salads is not the strongest point. Got into a disagreement about two salads we didn't order. Childish reaction from waitress, we just left it that way

We reizen nu ruim 1wk rond in Scotland en dit was ons vijfde etentje uit en de lekkerste tot nu toe! Gezellig restaurantje met zeer aardige en attente bediening, verliep lekker vlot.

We stopped for dinner in Thurso while visiting Scotland and found this resturant on Tripadvisor. It was a good find the food was fresh and varied. Seafood was avaliable in various option. I had the Cullen Skink with smaoked haddock very nice if only a bit too salty. Plenty of fresh bread rolls were supplied to the table. For MianI had the seafood platter which was loaded up with prawns, smoked salmon, rollmops and more ample for any meal but could have done with a larger side salad, this was an option to add to the main meals though. Services was very good. If we were in the area again we would definetly revisit.

Lovely staff especially Liz, food was great however I had the seafood platter, all elements were delicious except for the crab meat which tasted of nothing at all.

The sober furnishings should not disguise the very dedicated service and delicious cuisine. We ate and drank excellently :)

Travelling around Scotland relying on trip advisor to find places to eat. This has been the best place so far. All the staff were incredibly friendly and we had the warmest welcome that we could possibly wish for. The food was simply amazing. When we look back on our time in Thurso it will be this restaurant that we will remember.

We ate in the bar. The nachos and cheese came with sour cream and salsa and were a meal in themselves. For main course I had vegetarian fajitas, which had more sour cream. For dessert I had the cheese board, which was a bit disappointing - three tiny pieces of cheese, a pile of assorted crackers and some chutney. At £7.95 I would have expected something a little better. But the total bill, for the two of us, including 2 glasses of wine was a very reasonable £55. The waiting staff were outstanding, informal, friendly and attentive. Smart casual dress.

Het restaurant werd aanbevolen door een lokale bewoner. De buitenzijde doet niet vermoeden dater sprake is van een restaurant dat de moeite van een bezoek waard is. Met name de vismaaltijden zijn bereid met verse vis. Overigens was de duck a l'orange ook uitstekend. De bediening is vriendelijk. De inrichting simpel. Tevredenheid resulteerde in twee bezoeken.

Nobody really knows how things work. The end of the story: we left without eating because the other boss didn't want to offer us the special, which was only served at the bar. Anyone who does too much has only themselves to blame. Then we went to Ynot. Super nice and great food. Above all, the atmosphere was much nicer and it was warm in the restaurant.

Cameriere gentilissime, nonostante le nostre non impeccabili english skills, dei sapori così intensi non li avevo mai sentiti (soprattutto il salmone e l'aringa). Abbiamo preso 2 starters (insalata di granchio e cozze delle Shetland), 2 secondi (coda di rospo e misto di freddi), 2 desserts (pudding toffee stinky e torta calda al cioccolato). Tutto eccellente, per 68 pounds (75 con la mancia). Prenotazione consigliata.

Stayed in hotel attached & breakfast was included in rate. Local produce, freshly cooked to order, good selection of cereals, juices, etc. Recommend the haggis & black pudding, very tasty & not stodgy & was perfectly cooked.

Really really good fish dishes for starter and main. Excellent Scrabster fish & chips. Very good C19 protocol and app easy to use for ordering. Friendly and professional staff.

We booked as a family and had to be split up. Which we accepted due to the restrictions. But put at extreme ends of the building?! We did not come at a busy time. When one table was paying for the two tables meals we were told the ‘dine out to help out’ scheme could not be applied. This was not explained until the end. We felt treated differently from the locals, who all seemed to have the seafood platter? Wasn’t on the menu we were shown. We were not shown the specials board. Would recommend the Cullen skink which was nice. My wife had the overpriced steak which did not come medium unfortunately.

Visited for lunch today, after a slight mistake in the order (which was rectified immediately and efficiently by very friendly staff) thoroughly enjoyed every morsel.

Visiting friends and they recommended this place. Staff were friendly and helpful. We had the smoked mussels to start with and they were absolutely fabulous. I had the burger (my standard new place comparator ) and it was very good. The wife and our friends also enjoyed their meals. Beer wasn't cheap but probably normal for this place. If I'm back in the area I would return to this restaurant.

The menu in the Red Pepper sounds very exicting; however, when the food arrives it is somewhat disappointing. The quality is fine but the quantity beggars belief - an almost completley white plate and very little food to spoil it. The service was good but for the price I would expect to leave the able feeling as though I had eaten, rather than thinking about a trip to the chippy for a top-up.

Excellent food, steaks cooked perfectly, everything was top notch. Make sure you try the fajita and the steak baguette!

Lovely meal. My friends and I all had something different and had a taste of each other’s, it was all delicious!! We had a cheese board to follow and the selection of cheese was beautiful, served with a lovely mango chutney, grapes and selection of biscuits/crackers. Very well priced, great service, the food is a real credit to the chef!! Lovely atmosphere too. Highly recommended!!

We visited The Red Pepper Restaurant for an evening meal whilst we were staying in Thursofor a night whilst driving The North Coast 500 with friends. We found it to be a lovely little restaurant with good service and lovely food. A glass of one of the local gins was a lovely treat too.

Absolutely delicious, Scallops cooked perfectly, fabulous sauce on Salmon dish. I'm glad I went when I did at 18.15 as it got really busy by 19.30 and only one waiter. Excellent service despite this. Thankyou all for such a fabulous meal x

Excellent restaurant! Smoked mussels are bliss. Frankly, it's a good address for reasonable prices. (75€ for two with wine and coffee). Very good address.
