Dee was the most welcoming host, I’ve never been here before, her and Keith welcomed 2 strange London lads camping like family. I’ve spent the last 2 hours playing records in the bar with Dee. I will be back in the summer, apparently there’s a festival with 2000 people. Let’s go!

This pub is such hidden gem. We popped in for a quick drink and felt like locals by the end of the night. Friendly service and customers!

It was a midweek evening so there was no food available. The hosts are very welcoming along with a nice log fire. If your in the area why not pop in.

Friendly pub alert... OMG what can we say, we stumbled across this lovely proper pub when on the canal. ( it's not on the map) but closer than the new style gastro pub. We would say restaurant. The golden lion is a proper old pub like the ones of yesteryear. Friendly, helpful, good prices. I landlady was a massive help hearing we didn't have an horseradish or yourkshires for our roast on the boat she gave us a small pot and two youkshires. An old chap in the bar picked up a guitar and started singing some amazing new and old music. Went back in the evening and the locals were just as nice offering a space at their table. 5 star great place. Don't miss this one.

Favourite pub, and I mean good old pub on the south oxford canal. Old school pub atmosphere helpful staff. A great landlady, and lovely regulars. The locals made us feel at home, the cider and wine was lovely. Don't miss this if your on the river 2min walk from the top lock.

A good old country pub set in a beautiful village, excellent ales 3-4 kept on top notch., even allowed us to order food locally when kitchen was shut and supplied plates and cutlery

We recently attended the Fairport Cropredy Convention festival, from Thursday 10th August to Sunday 13th. We dropped into the Red Lion on the Thursday afternoon for two pints of lemonade, for which we were charged £6. I was told that the plain, reusable plastic glasses were £1 each, with 50p going to charity. My wife noticed a sign saying that the charity was 'Cancer'! So £2 for a pint of lemonade and ice. We returned on Saturday afternoon, with our reusable plastic glasses, and were charged £8! £4 a pint as I used previously bought charity glasses! When I asked about the discrepancies I was asked, 'Who served you on Thursday? ' and told 'Those aren't the stackable charity glasses we were selling.' I told my story as above, but they had no explanation for doubling the price of a pint of lemonade from £2 to £4. Some 20 minutes later a young lady brought over a couple of plastic stackable glasses as an apology, maybe? Festival prices were prevalent, a local man told me; what a way to treat the thousands of festival visitors 'eh!

Friendly staff and landlady made me most welcome explained background for visit which she remembered from sometime back. Lunch in the garden service excellent nothing too much trouble. Many thanks will return again when passing.

Well-kept beer at reasonable prices. Nice atmosphere, pleasant staff. A jolly little boozer, if you are in the vicinity.

I have been drinking in the red lion since 1989, not had food since 1995 so can't comment about it, but boy, the days of a Yorkshire pud with faggots and gravy were the best! Beautiful old pub, some nice real ales and friendly staff. Shame I'm only there once every second week of August.

My family and I have been coming to the festival for many years, and The Red Lion is like home from home. The ambience is truly heartwarming, and the food, service, and ale great. This is all set in an utterly beautiful area. A definite must to visit 😊 Oh, and I mustn't forget to mention Pepper, their family doggy who's also utterly beautiful 😍 ❤️

We enjoyed well kept real ales, a friendly atmosphere and a few games of pool. A traditional Oxfordshire village pub which is very welcoming and a great place to spend the evening with friends.

We called in here for a drink after reading reviews of the other pub in the village, saying that this was cheaper. It was, but only by 50p! The pub was tiny, which was nice and cosy, but we sat outside as it was a nice day. The outside area is ok, looks like decking has recently been added. Think we'll try the other pub next time as I think it'll be worth it.

Stopped off whilst on the canal, superb hospitality from the staff and owners. Recommend this quaint little pub to any visitor. Defiantly will visit again.

We booked the Red Lion for lunch prior to a long walk around the area. Unfortunately, we were slightly late for our booking and a large party were also there. Despite this, the large party were all served their meals and we were served very soon afterwards with only a very short wait. Only Sunday roasts were available but all four of us were very happy with that and we thoroughly enjoyed our food. Plentiful and very tasty. The pub is a beautiful, thatched roof building in a lovely village by the Oxford canal. Lots of lovely walks around the area. The staff made us feel very welcome and were good fun. We eat out a lot around Oxfordshire and this is now one of our favourites! We will have to return.

We were on a narrowboat holiday and looked for somewhere to eat close to the canal. I rang the pub and asked if they could accommodate 16 at short notice. I spoke with ‘D’ the landlady who said she could get us in if we didn’t mind waiting a few hours as she had to sort out extra staff. Big thanks to whoever turned up for an extra shift. This was perfect as we still had a couple of hours of sailing to get to Cropredy. The pub is very warm and inviting. It was nice to find a pub with a decent pool table. The food was lovely and despite there being 16 of us it all arrived pretty close together. D took time out to sit with us and chat which was a nice touch. A lovely time was had by all.

Excellent pub with very limited and expensive menu but cheaper than the other one! Dogs are allowed in. Clean toilets. Very old pub, used to be a Police Station and a mortuary. 400+years old. Low ceilings (bad acoustics) aids one to hear everyone's conversation. Get a beer sit and listen. Friendly Tennant Landlord and the lady. I would recommend due to no other option for holiday makers on a tight budget.

Ideal for boaters being only a two minute walkrom the canal. Beautiful old thatched pub with great unpretentious food at reasonable price. Good beer choice and friendly owners.

Dee is one of the owners of the Pub and restaurant and is a very nice lady. My husband and I came in their pub to watch the Rugby game and play dominoes. Dee had a dominoes board that we could play on. Dee told us the history of this 500 year old pub and the ghost(s) that peaceful roam there every now and again. If we ever visit Cropredy we will surely visit their pub again.

Lovely evening spent with friends. Staff had gone all the way to make it a special evening representing Burn"s night. Thank you to all the staff, well worth a visit.

Visited the pub after a 15 year gap and the place is still as incredible as before. Drinks are nice and staff are very helpful and good conversation. Bonus points for the Apple Crumble dessert

Such a warm welcome from the owners who couldn’t do enough for our party. It was great that it’s dog friendly too so that we could take our 2. We stopped in Cropedy on our canal holiday and The Red Lion was walkable even for members of our party with disabilities. Thank you for a very pleasant evening.

Lovely and friendly pub, food hours vary so check before turning up. Loved the welcome we received and nothing was too much trouble. My 9 year old said best pub ever, not sure if it was the hustling us for jelly tots whilst playing pontoon or the dinner we ordered. Either way a very enjoyable meal and family time. Would definitely come again!

Festival weekend and no food being served, beer the most expensive in the village. Such a shame as this was always our meeting place in previous years.

You cannot go wrong with the Red Lion. Simply delicious food served by friendly staff. Comfortable surroundings to relax in and you will want to stay as long as possible. In winter a lovely warm fire to sit by and ponder. I love this place.

Looks q lovely little village pub so Popped in for a few drinks made to feel not welcome.. wished we hadn't, group put 100s behind the bar but barstaff treated visitors poorly. Shame as was going to eat there and stay longer, but their loss.. lovely village this pub spoils it.

We found the staff, atmosphere and drinks, first class, BUT the food was atrocious. The starter of mushroom was clearly deep fried and over done and the fish main course was breaded cod from a supermarket and again deep fried. The chef should be truly...

What lovely homley welcoming pub the staff were helpful and friendly and the food was excellent not to big of a potions the cottage pie is well worth a go and the bread and butter pudding was very nice as well. I would definitely recommend going to The Red Lion

What can I say, I was a bit dubious when friends said they had got tables to dine at the red lion cropredy. My last adventure there though be it sometime ago. Was less than impressive. How wrong was I this time, after turning up...

Lovely small friendly pub. Nothing was too much trouble. We had a lovely meal which was very organised for 22 of us. We went back for tea and biscuits after ringing the church bells.

This is a lovely pub, full of character. We had a very warm welcome, as boaters passing through. We were there on St Georges Day, and enjoyed the trio of sausages with mash, and Eton Mess to follow, served in a cross shape. The sausages...

A lovely olde-worlde English pub with a typical warm welcome. Just beware of the low beams which have an affinity for careless heads. There's a good range of beers and lagers for the thirsty and a broad menu of good country food for the hungry.

We ate here one evening and spent a wet lunchtime chatting with the locals. Its a really friendly place. It had a limited menu when we visited, not sure if this was for covid or due to availability of staff, maybe a bit of both....

We was traverling on the Oxford canal and stopped for the night at Cropredy we went to the Red Lion for a meal the landlady told us they have a limited menu because of no chef at the moment she was doing the cooking so we stayed for a meal we ordered the Jack fruit curry which was home made it was lovely and full of flavour for dessert we had the banana split which another lady had to go and make it had the works and was so tasty and the meal and wine was both good as well and the pub itself is like going back in time

Popped in for a drink while on canal barge holiday. This is a lovely traditional country pub with friendly hosts and locals. They have a vinyl record player with lots of records which we where encouraged to use and had a fantastic fun evening singing...

This place is quaint and very friendly...the owner is lovely he has 2 dogs who are also very friendly, family and doggie friendly and good prices...the staff are also very pleasant 🙂 well worth popping in. The village (Cropredy)in where it's located is beautiful runs along the canal.

The food was nice and the interior is charming, but the ‘beer garden’ looks like it was hastily added during Covid times and looks a little dreary. There was full ashtrays and cigarette butts all over the place. The interior was nice and run by lovely people

We visited several times while staying close by for a weeks holiday. Excellent free music on for the Cropredy Fringe Festival. Staff and management were really friendly. A real pub with excellent beer & staff.

What a beautiful pub with friendly staff and locals. Didn't get to try the food but the ales are well kept, every pint is crystal clear and delicious! I wish this was my local!

The till was playing up when we got there and they couldn't offer the whole menu. It was lunchtime and so we only wanted a sandwich. We had to wait a while, but it was worth it. The bread was delicious and the ham inside was lovely. Can't comment on the beer as we were on our motorbikes but the coffee was great too. Never drink and ride. Staff were really friendly and if I'm ever that way again, I'll definitely go back.

Thank you for your hospitality yesterday, in our hours of need: our small group of friends called in after a dear friend's funeral - exceptionally kind landlady made us copious chips and onion rings - the comfort food we needed. The warm, friendly pub atmosphere, happy Springer Spaniel dogs and excellent Butcombe beer soon had us feeling better. Highly recommended.
