Stayed with my partner for 2 nights in the larger Family Room. Tastefully decorated, very clean and our room was well equipped with a lovely view. Although the main road was close by, it wasn't very busy so we slept well. Very centrally located for visiting / sightseeing. Plenty of parking is available. Beautiful garden to sit out in. Liked the thoughtful extras provided, i.e. Bottle of iced water and a little urn of fresh milk for Tea/Coffee which were brought to our room after checking in. We dined here on both nights and weren't disappointed. The food is really really good - thanks to David who is also the Chef - and the food is not your typical Pub food. There are a variety of Vegetarian options available as well. The Desserts are fabulous! We both had the full Welsh Breakfasts and really enjoyed them. Portions are very good. Odette and David are wonderful hosts who certainly go the extra mile for their guests. This couple fully deserve our 10/10 rating! We couldn't fault anything - except we should have stayed for longer! Thank you so much Odette & David.

As locals to the area we have not been to this pub for over 3 years as we had a bad experience previously and did not know it had changed hands. What a delight. We entered at 6.15pm on a cold winters night to find two blazing log fires. The pub has been renovated but retains all the old charm of 15th Century pub. It is not as cluttered as it used to be and has been sympathetically organised to cater for diners but also to accommodate locals for a drink. The owners David & Odette are lovely friendly people who have brought a welcome to the hillside. I had a surf and turf, the steak melted in the mouth like fillet, beautiful. The good lady had Welsh faggots that were also delicious. The menu offered a great variety with daily specials as an addition. Spoilt for choice. We will certainly be returning.

Why not stop here, Ye Ol Weary Traveller, rest awhile and take the journeys stain from your old tired legsNothing less than you would expect from the oldest pub in Powys.Well it seems like the levels of customer service were left not in medieval times, but the dark ages.People drinking in the garden, doors open and patrons enjoying a conversation in the restaurant. My greeting.....an empty bar.Not for long though, a member of the team greeting me to the customary greeting we have all come to expect from the hospitality trade "were not serving, were closed" Maybe a soft drink , no were not serving....bottle of water from the fridge, for my onward journey.Nope, nothing at allImagine this; a customer enters your premises over all others and wants to part with their cash and you take it. Luckily they were still busy preparing Sunday lunches and watering the pretty garden. They couldn't have been more helpful and kind when we arrived and we were glad to lay our weary heads on comfortable beds in a very pleasant, quaint, beamed room with en suite and a little dressing room. Despite not having dinner we enjoyed a delicious breakfast and a very good night's sleep as it is so peaceful there. Just returned from a great weekend at this fine country Inn. What a welcome, nothing to much trouble, fine food at a reasonable price, rooms small but very cosy, plenty of information about the area. Be sure to do the trip through the Ellen valley to Devils Bridge. Will be recommending the Red Lion to all our friends. Thanks for a great weekend Clive

Stayed for a couple of nights in this historic pub. There are lovely old photos and bits and bobs everywhere. Loved the residents lounge. The food was fantastic and freshly cooked as were the breakfasts. Usual pub menu, but would have liked a choice of lighter meals in the evening, salad, new potatoes, quiche etc would be great. The room was rather small, not helped by an unnecessary chair and illogical furniture layout, but made up for by the huge view from the window. The owners haven't been there a year yet, so I'm sure they will continue to improve as they go. There's a very friendly welcome here, great food and wonderful countryside. Ideal for a break from the daily grind. I would happily stay again.

We'd been sightseeing locally at the "Break Its Neck Falls" (just along the A44 road), when we decided to search for a local restaurant for lunch. This was the first one we came across and decided to pull in. Ample car parking space. Friendly, helpful staff greeted us. We sat in the conservatory to have our lovely meals. I had a turkey roast and my wife a lamb roast. Both excellent. Good value for money (£8.95 each) and we were stuffed! Also had a refreshing lager shandy with my meal. Everything was clean and tidy too. Very happy we pulled in. Thanks the Red Lion Inn for making our day.

New owners, fresh décor inside, warm welcome and perfect food. Lovely couple now running this old established pub. It deserves a visit. Menu is wide and caters for everyone, and they are so kind and helpful. We will be back, and bringing friends to enjoy the welcome at the Red Lion

Staying at a nearby caravan site who recommended this cosy little restaurant. Recently under new management who were all lovely and very welcoming. Great potential for the new owners and feel that their new ideas of takeaways to local caravan sites is a fantastic idea. Menu was limited so be nice to see over time this expands as the food was 5 stars just like the service. I have informed my office to rebook the local caravan site for next year's show so that we can revisit this lovely place. Well worth a visit and good to see new keen owners. See you next year.

First off the four stars are not a five as I did not stay over in one of the rooms so can't give an overall review. That said if the rooms are like the rest of the pub five stars would prevail. Great friendly welcome, good food and well kept beer. Clean and tidy. Second visit here and it won't be my last.

We stayed here for one evening as it was getting quite late. They had one room left so we were very lucky. The welcome that we received from all of the staff was outstanding and this was the standard throughout our stay. The new owners took over about 8 weeks ago and they are making changes so most of the previous photographs will be out of date.We had already eaten on our journey, which was a shame because I would love to have tried the food here. Breakfast was spot on.We had a drink in the bar before going to bed. I had the real ale which was excellent. The bed was comfortable and I felt rested for the drive ahead. The owners have a really good local knowledge and make positive suggestions about the route that I was considering to go back home.Customer service is so important to me and the new owners excel in this respect. We had such a wonderful stay. Thank you.
