Red Lion in Fareham

Terrible experience. No sunday roast, no sausage, no steak, no fish. Ended up getting 2 ultimate sharers which were not good quality or value for money. Had to ask for more cuttlery as the forks were not clean. This was the second visit over the last couple of months. The last visit we decided not to stay due to unavailability of many items on the menu. We will not be using this place again even though it is the closest eatery to where we live.

The staff at the red lion Jamie and Layla were kind attentive. I shall definitely return again in the future. Food was served hot and all condiments were offered.

Red lion is a very friendly pub many locals drink there so feels like a relaxed environment to drink. The food is great can recommend the Katsu Curry. Staff are great call out to Layla for her great customer service tonight but all the staff Jaime, Lucy , Brandon, Sue are all very lovely. This pub has great Karaoke and disco nights aswell so get yourself down there..

Had a good night in the red lion tonight - watched the footy, had a couple of drinks. Landlord Jamie seemed friendly, was served by a lady called Lucy who was nice too. Decent all round atmosphere. Will probably come again!

We use to come here nearly every Friday for drinks with family. But since the pub has been taken over last year, its gone further then rock bottom. The coffee machine has been out for a few months now where they still charged full price for instant coffee. The kitchen seems to be always shut when we come in, even though it's something small even though the menu states "all day". We came in a few weeks ago and it was completely dead no one in here (I wonder why) then all of a sudden the bar staff friends come in, about 6 of them and they were screaming and shouting making the experience unbearable. We ordered on the app thinking the drinks won't be to long and they took over 25 minutes from ordering to being served to the table. Because they can't hear their machine if they have any orders.

Went into the red lion for a drink thinking we would have to wait a long time as it was busy, was served very quickly and the barmaid Layla who was fantastic and remembered our drinks when we ordered again! Which is very rare at a busy pub. The whole night (even though it was busy) the service was great and staff were friendly cannot fault them. Thank you again Layla!

Fantastic friendly staff, came for my granddaughter 13th birthday. Food excellent steak was 100% cooked byWESLEY. Hghly recommend coming.

The food was excellent I had a hunter's chicken cooked 🍳 by wes compliments to the chef 👩‍🍳 the atmosphere was very good 10 out of 10 recommended very pleased.

Popped in for some lunch with the family. Good prices and a large variety of food choices. Food arrived promptly and was hot and tasty. The two ladies working were polite, cheery and helpful. If we were to return to Porchester, we'd definitely return to the Red Lion!

Came in today for some food and a couple of beers whilst watching the football. Food was great and service was even better from a nice young lady named Lucy. Very polite and attentive and made sure tables were clean and we were happy with our food

Popped in for an Xmas day drink with my family … Was served by Layla who was polite and friendly and in the festive spirit . Although the pub was super busy and Layla was the only one on the bar the majority of the time , the service was super efficient and she worked hard to keep everyone as happy as possible . We had a great time … Will certainly be visiting again

We visited as a family to have a meal. There was a friendly welcoming atmosphere on arrival and throughout our visit. The staff were more than happy to accommodate a few menu changes when we ordered our food to suit our tastes. The food arrived quickly and of a very high standard despite it being a busy Friday tea time. The meals were delicious and well cooked and amazing value for the money. My mum is very particular with her food and she could not find fault with her main meal or pudding! We will definitely be visiting again.

Visited the red lion today with my wife and 3 kids. Was really impressed with how friendly and welcoming the staff were there. Nothing was too much trouble and the staff also kept the kids happy! The food was really good value and tasty and the kids loved it. Would recommend to anyone with kids to try the food and enjoy the atmosphere. Will definitely be going back for more of the same! Visited my local on a Wednesday evening. Staff were very friendly. Had drinks and was able to play free pool with other locals. Had a great evening, thanks.

We have visited this pub/restaurant for Sunday lunch. As a green king pub the menu is good and the service is excellent. We have been for Sunday roast a couple of times when we have visitors as the two for one deal means four people can eat roast turkey for 22 pounds. This is a real bargain and the food is good too.

What we thought would be a one off visit for some cheap and cheerful food and a few drinks has now turned into a Friday night club! My friend and I have eaten here the last three Fridays and every meal has been delicious, well cooked and well presented. Ridiculous value for money! Thank you to Claire and her team of Kelly and Sam.

My brother and I visited the Red Lion on the 10th of January. We ordered the breakfast and settled at a table near the window to watch the Portchester world go past. Then our food arrived. It was served on a huge plate, and was the biggest breakfast I have ever seen. We both just stared in disbelief, unable to take in the spread in front of us. We had just started to eat, when the the toast was delivered, on another big plate upon rested a big doorstop slab.Somehow we managed to get through the food, and the toast. It was perfectly cooked and enjoyed by us both.The only downside was that the there was no hot drinks available due to a breakdown on the machinery. It didn't matter.Thank you Red Lion. We will be back.

I visited for lunch with a friend. Couldn’t have been a better visit. Lovely food, food arrived quick and tasted lovely. Customer service was brilliant by Claire, paid attention to my young baby and checked back to make sure everything was ok.

Met up with some friends at the Red Lion Portchester a couple of days ago. Always a friendly welcome and the bar staff are always attentive. Was lovely to see Claire the landlady back. She always takes the time to have a chat with us even when its busy at the bar! Its a great place to meet up with friends and have a drink and a bite to eat in a relaxing atmoshphere. Keep up the good work Greene King and thank you to Claire and the team at the Red Lion.

I heard that this pub had a new chef so decided to give it another go. Wow food was amazing. Prompt service hot piping food was served very quickly.It was delicious were home now full up and very satisfied. The red lion is definitely worth going into for excellent service and excellent food.

Have not visited this pub in a while, my partner and I went in and were welcomed with open arms the staff are so friendly, loved the new menu and the beers are very reasonably priced

Took myself and my work colleagues out for a well deserved drink last Friday after a long week at work we had great service from Sam Sean and gypsy very attentive bar staff couldn’t ask for better service keep it up !

Came out to celebrate a family birthday with a meal. The food came out in great time considering the large number of us.There was 1 specific item that did come out a little late but the cook came out and personally apologised for the delay. The delay was caused by a steak sandwich however we specifically asked for this to be well done. Which it was! But the personal apology just added great customer service to the experience

Great local and staff. Never a bad meal. Good mix of people. In my perfect world it would be a requirement to show something other than football on at least one of the many TVs. Well done team.

Popped into the Red today to try their new menu, extremely glad I did. Food was fantastic, very tasty and like that I could choose what I wanted in my burger.Pub was very busy so though would be a long wait for food. Ate in the pub this afternoon after being told that the menu had just been introduced. Struggled to pick what to have from the menu as selection was superb..... I ended up choosing the katsu chicken burger which I thoroughly enjoyed.... Will be returning to try other dishes from the menu.....Great value, polite staff..... Recommended

Went to the first day of the new menu and the choice is great especially for Seniors. Sam always bubbly made sure we were looked after explaining all the great looking food on their menu. Well done to all the staff. Will be back soon.

We have visited The Red Lion a few times recently and have had a lovely meal each time staff are really friendly, welcoming and helpful especially Sam who is a lovely lively lady who told us last week when we were there that a new menu was starting today so we asked her to book the same table for us which she did and we have really enjoyed another delicious meal this evening, as the menu is so new it took a little longer than usual which we were advised of on ordering but it was really worth the wait brought to us by the chef who was keen to know that everything was as we wantedWe will definitely be returning time and again!

I came in today for a light lunch with my husband and the service was wonderful. The two bar staff ladies shannon and Gypsy were very friendly from start to finish. When ordering our food and drinks they were extremely helpful and brought our drinks to our table for us. The food was delicious and hot and the lady chef with multi colour hair (I thinks said she said her name was sarah) came and brought our food to our table and greeted us with a very big smile.She came back when we finished our meals and gave us our puddings and although she looked a little busy she still took the time to check if all was ok. It was a wonderful atmosphere and staff was een more wonderful. We look forward to returning soon.

Went in the Red Lion today, the staff were so friendly they took the time to ask me how I was doing and what I’d been up to, I believe they were called Sean and Holly, it’s the little things that go a long way.Food was lovely and came very quickly.Definitely worth a visit.Keep up the good work

10/10 Lovely food (big portions) and good service Shannon and Sam really makes this place. I’d recommend easily located to the local marina too.

Shannon was very friendly and you could definately tell she wore a smile behind her face mask. She was very quick with our drinks and made the England match an enjoyable experience

All greene king pubs that we have visited Sam has given us the best customer service that could ever be received. The pub offered quick delivery of drinks, and an impeccable atmosphere. 5 stars to all !

WOW what a burger! Just ordered a hot food Friday for our office staff from Red Lion, all done over the phone then collected in just 20mins. All boxed up lovely and it was delicious. Very happy staff today.Thanks to Claire for making it so easy. See you next Friday for more of the same.

Awful experience very scary, we nipped in for drink after our walk, my partner went to toilet to find some skinny man taking cocaine in the toilets absolutely disgusting

Came for lunch with my friend, as we are not in the same household, the host made sure we were on tables close together which was fine. The host explained that we had to order food to get alcohol, which we did I had a lovely fish and chips and a cold pint of peroni. Not as busy as usual but the staff are doing what they can. Will be back again soon.

Always come here for my birthday and have an amazing time every year and this year was no different even with the COVID restrictions, lovely food, good service good way to celebrate a birthday. All the staff were lovely and friendly and very welcoming.

Visited this evening for a birthday meal with family. Worried as thought it would be very different with all the covid restrictions. Shannon was allowed to put up decorations where we were sitting and Kerri even took the time to say the words to happy birthday song (who knew you can't even sing these days) Food was excellent,even with a very fussy eater, they were able to accommodate with ease. Riva was always smiling and went the extra mile. Thank you yet again Red Lion you made birthday time special.

Dropped in for a pint while waiting for her in doors (it was market day), as you walk in the door you will be greeted by a staff member who will ask you to leave your details which they do for you on a computer.When done they take your order and show you to a vacant table that displays a sign “this table has been cleaned.” Staff are all wearing masks or face shields and a young lady who has a t shirt with “Monitor” written on it, is forever checking, cleaning & looking to make sure customers know where to sit, where the toilets are and if food or drink orders are required. This has to be the safest pub on the planet...they don’t miss anything and ensure your stay is enjoyable and always in a safe environment. On leaving, I commented to the “Monitor” that the establishment was the safest I had visited so far. Well done staff at the Red Lion. TS

After the recent lockdown due to the COVID-19 pandemic, I received a great welcome when I returned to one of my favourite pubs. The staff have worked really hard to keep everyone safe during this difficult time. The food is still a very high standard with exceptional value. The table service run by the attentive staff does work really well, if you order using the app, the drinks arrive within a few minutes. Well done Red Lion and keep up the good work.

we came in for lunch, the food was really tasty and good value. The manager claire told us all about the new rules, masks, track and trace, gk app etc. We felt very covid safe.

Was dubious about visiting the pub after the new government guidelines but I should not have worried. The female who greeted us at the door, Shannon I think, explained all the new measures and even helped us to download the app, she showed us to our table and gave us time to peruse the menu. Young man who brought our drinks was also very smiley and the food was good.If I was to make any complaint it would be that it was not nice to hear another member of staff constantly moaning about the rules, swearing and shouting to customers across the bar!! None of us like the new rules but it’s unfortunately a necessity to keep everyone safe. Overall a pleasant experience.

Popped in whilst visiting family. Felt very COVID safe. The Manager Claire was really friendly and made sure we were comfortable and enjoyed our very delicious meals.

My husband and I have just had lunch in the Red Lion Portchester. I had the steak which was cooked to my liking. It was a very nice rump steak accompanied by peppercorn sauce. My husband had the lasagna which he said was excellent. We were very pleased with the very reasonable prices as we are pensioners.

Having not been out for over 5 months, today 12/08/ 2020. we went out for my birthday. We were met by Sarah who informed us of all the new rules in the pub. All the staff were very helpful and pleasant to talk to. We had a great meal and drinks. At no time did we feel concerned about Cov19 because of the rules in the pub. we will be returning soon! Our first trip back to the pub since Covid, the staff were brilliant Sam & Kerry were happy smiling & laughing as usual and made our return great filled with fun and laughter. With some new faces on the staff who were happy to help as much as possible. Al in All it was great to be back

I had a fantastic evening at this pub everyone following great covid messurements i was extermly pleased with a younge blonde female who took my order she greeted me with a big smile which was nice as it was my first outing since lockdown she was extermley chatty and promt with taking my drink orders. All the staff were amazing i must say it really made my day will be returning soon

The Manager Roy was excellent and so helpful. Managed to sort my Green King App out after I had tried for 6 months to get it sorted.

First night out since lockdown began and usually a delme drinker but this pub is a proper hidden gem! Hugely professional in dealing with the COVID restrictions but didn’t feel oppressive in the slightest. Friendliest and chattiest staff and the landlord was welcoming and genuine throughout. If you want a pint with friends and want to feel safe in these uncertain times then the red lion is the place for you! Thanks guys 100% see you soon.

Wanted a birthday get together for my daughter’s 21st before she headed out to Gunwharf. The staff here were brilliant! Claire the manager sectioned an area off for us and all the staff were so accommodating. We preordered bar meals and these came out fresh and piping hot even when I requested they come out staggered. Portion size was brilliant with more than enough for everyone! A few people had not been there before but were impressed with the atmosphere, prices and food quality. It was a brilliant get together and enjoyed by all! A big thank you to Claire, Lynne, Kerry, Cameron, Sadie and Sam for their help!!!! Thanks again. Now grown even fonder of the red!! X

Had a lovely visit while we stop to collect so amenities from the local shops, the food was reasonably priced and the staff very friendly, this was our first time to Portchester as visited the Castle, can highly recommend and will hopefully return on our next visit.

If I could rate higher then 5 I would. It's a great place to watch sports, and gather with your friends over a pint. The food is amazing and reasonably priced even the drinks are good value. There are always good offers on with food and drink. Even going out for a family meal with the kids, they accommodate for them too. The staff are very friendly and welcoming. The pub itself is always clean and tidy and the decor is very modern and homely feel. Highly recommend this pub.

We visited recently and I was very surprised how nice it was. The lady that served us, Kerri I think her name was couldn't be more helpful, very friendly.

This pub is in prime location for people visiting the castle as in our case. From the outside the red lion pub is very uninviting, we only went in as had to get some milk from the shop on the way home and decided to stop and have same lunch. I think this pub would get so many more passing customers if it had a less rundown exterior and more character. Once inside the staff seemed friendly and food wasn't too bad. Would be lovely to have a log fire and some sofas but thats just my preference when in a pub on a winter's day and maybe not the room for it . I would recommend it to people as good value for money and friendly a staff, its just a shame its not had the money it deserves put into it with such a prime location.

Very bad customer service experience. Went today 20/11 with our friends from London to have a drink . My friend tea arrived without milk , the blonde lady staff brings to the table the whole battle of milk to use it ... which was funny for us ! The rest of the drinks beer, whiskey was delivered but the 2 “cappuccinos”... actually they were far to be . Were just coffee and milk without milk foam at all . The blonde lady says that the coffee machine is rubbish and invited us next door to have coffee where we can have a biscuit too , she meant that was a wrong choice to come in Red Lion Very rude attitude , not apologise...She definitely needs a training in hospitality. I

A pub offering good value food and drink. Often showing sports matches on tv so can be noisy. Friendly staff.

Even though we had such a large group the food came out quite quick and the waitress was very helpful

Since the refurb, love this place, it now has a really nice atmosphere and some amazing bar staff who are friendly and efficient and maintain a great environment.

Met family for a meal good selection, clean tidy and good selection of non alcoholic drinks , had to ask for cutlery .

I had dinner here last Monday, just before the Football started. I ordered a double cheese & bacon burger and chips, it was only £6.99 and as this was included in the ‘Drinks Meal’, it meant I also got my usual beer £2 cheaper. The food came very quickly, was well cooked and presented and I ate the lot! This meal was way better than expected and I will eat here more regularly.

Went in this pub for lunch as we have done on lots on occasions and the food was very good but this was not the case on this occasion not very well presented and smaller portions I don't know what the other meals were like but wouldn't go for Sunday lunch again

Lived here for years but didn’t go to this pub until last year. Now it’s my favourite local for watching football and for their excellent food. Chef Dave really takes care in his prep and presentation of your meal. Staff are all friendly and the atmosphere always happy.

All the years I have lived here I have never been in the Red Lion. Well I did and what a nice surprise. even on a Saturday night it was a Chilled out atmosphere and staff were very friendly and welcoming. A well run and welcoming pub we shall now return regularly.

Well, where do I start? Went to the Red Lion this evening for a meal with my Mum and we both had a steak with peppercorn sauce. Mine was supposed to be well done but wasn't edible as the meat was so tough and had no flavour. My Mum's steak was supposed to be a medium but was almost raw and I took photos to prove it. Both meals were very small and the fried tomato was dry and disgusting. The sauce was vile and looked like vomit. My Mum tried to explain this and was offered a free dessert. I wouldn't even take my uneaten steak home for my dog, that's how bad it was. I was also chatting to a local who told me, too late, that the pub is for sniff and drink and he was actively selling cocaine from his mobile phone and to customers at the pub while I was there.

Stopped off at The Red Lion after a visit to Portchester Castle on Saturday: I’d been before so knew that we’d get a great value lunch with a good drink - I wasn’t disappointed!

The red lion is a lively community pub with friendly, efficient staff, relaxed and comfortable for a quiet drink, busier on weekends and big matches, good food and a meat raffle on Sundays. Really enjoyed our last visit, watching Portsmouth win the trophy at Wembley, highly recommended.

I popped in here after doing some shopping. It was filled with locals that all seemed nice. I ordered a burger meal which came with a pint of lager for only an extra £1.50!! I will def be visiting again.

Arrived at the red lion earlier today, as I was meeting friends to enjoy the rugby, I had roast beef for lunch and a few pints, it was lovely, also the new television is fab

We visited the Red Lion last Sunday for a family Christmas lunch. The food and service were excellent. We all really enjoyed our visit and would definitely recommend the Red Lion.

Christmas has begun, had my first Christmas dinner last night at the Red Lion, the food was delicious, my steak was cooked perfectly, the staff were warm and welcoming, I would definitely recommend the Red Lion, for a Christmas party.

Visited our local for tea. Ordered beef burger and vegetarian burger. Food hot and very tasty. Quick and friendly service. Pub can be noisy at times but there are places to sit that are quieter. Dog friendly. Guinness excellent. (Husband Irish so he should know) value for money too.
