We love Redchilles food and service. They are so helpful, courteous and polite. Tonight we ordered a lamb dish, chicken, spinach bites, onion bhaji, paratha, lamb biriyani and aubergine curry. The south indian food in this restaurant is second to none and the welcome you receive is also brilliant. I love the dosa and usually choose the spinach and/or green bean side dishes to accompany it - along with the delicious cold indian Kingfisher beer....

This will not be your cheapest Indian, but it could well be the best you have ever been to. Eschewing the staples of 'Indians', and instead going for Keralan cuisine. We had Masal Popadom. kerala mixture (much better than Bombay mix), prawn 65, Spinach bites, Lamb Shank, Kerala Paratha, Aubergine, Theeyal, rice and veg. This place fully deserves its No.1 ranking and the staff are extremely helpful in explaining all the dishes and finding out how you like your food.

First time here but it won’t be the last time! The owner was really friendly and took time to explain the food to us and where it came from. This isn’t your typical ‘British-Indian’ type food. This is authentic Kerala Indian food. Each dish was tasty and freshly cooked. There is a great selection to choose from. We can’t wait to visit again.

Fantastic.Agree with many points of the high scoring reviews previously left. I’ll summarise some key things but that doesn’t do this place justice - don’t go if in a hurry and do immerse yourself in an ‘experience’, not just a meal. Nice open dining area with a good feel.Incredibly friendly owner/waiter.The point someone else made about the food being ‘light’ [this does not mean the same as not being filling!] and full of flavour - as an example the chutneys are all made from scratch on the premises. No compromise on traditional dishes, so the chance to try new things. No artificial colours or preservatives.And...I’m not usually a fan of tvs when eating but I loved the Indian pop videos - it added to the atmosphere.Chicken 65 rocks!!!Many thanks for our lovely evening.

Visited here last night and can't believe I've never been before, but I'll definitely be back. The food was excellent. All freshly prepared and we had some really helpful guidance from our waitress. We shared a mixture of starters including prawn 65 and chicken 65 and the amazing spinach bites and onion bhajis. Then I had the Goan prawn curry, amazing. They can dial the level of spice/heat up or down depending on what your preference is. Oh and the brmy ads are amazing too, never quit tasted anything like it. Would definitely frecommend commend it.

Me and My husband have just returned home from RedChilliez and we’ve never tasted such clean, tasty food like it!This was our first visit here and we had a lovely waitress called Jose who explained everything to us and even gave us some recommendations to try.We ordered the Chicken 65 (AMAZING!) Onion Bhaji and Gobi. The food was out of this world and the flavours kept coming in waves! We then went for Coriander Chicken, Lamb Dry, Brown Rice, the Spinach dish and Paratha for our mains. Again the flavours were like nothing I’ve ever tasted! We highly recommend this place and will definitely be returning very soon!On a side note.....100% try the lime and soda drink!

Visited on a Monday night in January and the restaurant was reasonably quiet. We were greeted warmly by who I presume was the owner/Manager of the establishment. He seated us, gave us our menus and took our drinks order without delay. The menu is not your standard Indian fayre, the dishes are of South Indian heritage and sounded really appetizing. We were unsure on what to have and in what quantity to order so we were recommended dishes to try depending upon our preferences for spicing and for the ingredient (meant, fish etc).We was recommended to try the Street Food Duck Curry, the whole Seabass special which was stuffed with prawns and a spicy sauce, a paratha bread to share and coconut spinach. The waiter assured us this would be enough food but if we wanted more we could order it as we went along. When the food arrived, the quantity was just right as we shared all the dishes & we were grateful for the recommendations. The waiter/Owner/manager was very helpful and friendly and seemed to really care how we was enjoying our food and evening. We finished sharing a dessert of banana in a rum caramel sauce with ice cream which was very nice also.I would 100% return here if I was ever in the area again.

It was quite empty when we went, but the waiter could not have been more helpful. The food was delicious mostly Keralan curries and homemade touches like all the chutneys were home made rather than out of a jar. The only thing which was a tiny negative was the fact that we waited ages for our main courses considering the restaurant wasn't busy. This wasn't a problem for us, but if you were off to see a show at the Palace Theatre it might have been.

Just home from Sunday lunch with 5 new friends. The restaurant will know who I am as we were the only ones there. The organiser having been recommended to this place enjoyed his meal as did some others but my main course was rank! The service was good and very polite. I ordered the doughnuts, nice and light fluffy and tasty. Optimistic now I thought I would try a new way offered here of My favourite The chicken biriani........disappointed as it was disgusting, it consisted of plain rice in a bowl topped with 2 chicken thighs on the bone then covered with more rice. A separate tiny bowl of veg (a tiny piece of carrot) sauce. The chicken had that horrible old taste when it’s been reheated dry and it wasn’t very warm so the actual bone was cold. I didn’t realise this until I have eaten one piece as we were chatting. I couldn’t eat the second piece so I complained and asked for more sauce so I could eat the rice. I am feeling a bit sick now so I will let you know if this evolves into feeling worse. I was charged full price with no apologies so a negative review is my tip for this restaurant. Needless to say I won’t go back.

RedchilliezsThis restaurant because of the high score in Trip Advisor. We waited half an hour for our order to be taken and then sat there for an hour and a half waiting for our food. At that point we had had enough and went to the counter to say we would wait no longer and at that point they could not even say it was just coming and offered no apology. Nobody seemed in control of interested or concerned . What a waste of our Saturday evening

We'd read reviews on trip advisor about this restaurant, which were pretty much all positive. This really is a very different type of Indian restaurant, which offers more interesting, authentic and flavoursome food than the average typical Indian. They serve Northern Indian cuisine, which packs far more flavour and has a delicious after-taste. It was incredibly busy for a Saturday night immediately after Christmas, which says a lot for this restaurant, which must have many dedicated followers. We both enjoyed a lovely starter: mine a very tasty tuna fishcake which packed a mild spicy punch. My other half had minced beef patties. Both excellent. We'd both chosen a Lamb main course- the Lamb potato curry and the Travancore lamb curry cooked with coconut. Wow! Both were absolutely delicious and a real change to the typical Lamb dishes you'd find in an average Indian. Excellent value for money. Superb food. What's not to like? We will certainly be back VERY soon. It's a real find and a complete gem. GO!!

This came recommended via a friend and Im hooked! As you can tell from the title, the parantha is my favourite and dipped into one of their deliciously aromatic spiced curries, I was in heaven. Im vegan and there was plenty to choose from which makes a change from the usual salad or houmous dip!! My husband is a meat eater and he thoroughly enjoyed his meal and recommends the Chicken 65. The service is friendly and their more than happy to offer you lots of advice on their dishes. It's clear they take pride in their food. I'm looking forward to visiting very soon again. My wife and I fancied an Indian meal and after searching on Trip advisor we found this restaurant and booked for a mid week meal. On arrival the restaurant would not pull you in as it looks quite sparse, we entered and received a warm welcome from Jaimon who I believe may be the owner. He let us choose where we wanted to sit as being a Thursday evening it was not too busy. Tables very clean and nicely pressed table cloths. The menu is actually southern Indian so different to the usual Indian restaurant but plenty of variety and caters for Gluten free on most menu items. We ordered drinks and placed the food order. We started with he Chutney tray and poppadoms (strangely these were 2 separate menu items as opposed to one dish which is strange). The chutneys were clearly home made and not out of a jar, thoroughly enjoyable and tasty. For starters we had the prawn 65 and chicken 65, my goodness they were an explosion of taste and freshness, they made your tastebuds come alive, mild heat which made your lips tingle but not too much. Main course My wife had the Nadan Beef Ularthiyathu and I had the coriander chicken with Pilau rice, again the taste was awesome and so fresh. The beef was really tender and the sauce it came in was thick and rich. We also had a Kerala Paretha to compliment the meal and it was stunning. Jaimon gave advice when ordering which helped. The staff were lovely genuine Keralan people and you could see their heart are in making this restaurant what it is. Would we go back again.....of course we will, its making my mouth water typing this.

Great selection of vegan and vegetarian food on the menu. (I am not vegan or vegetarian so can't comment on the dishes) my wife had the lamb which she said was the leanest and tastiest she's had. This is not standard Indian restaurant faire. I am no expert but understand it to be authentic South Indian food. Four of us went on a week day night. Around 20 covers in total. I think other diners there had been before and were knowledgeable of the menu. Certainly they were eating dishes we could not easily recognise. We needed help with the menu and our waiter (I think owner) took time to explain the dishes to us.The dining room is a bit bland and there was something lacking in the atmosphere although I suspect more people would have helped. The tables were laid out nicely with clean crisp cloths. The chairs are really lovely and comfortable. It was nice and warm on what was a chilly evening. We started with pompadoms and chutneys. The chutneys were unusual - somewhat sweet - then with a kick. We followed it with some starters - one person had the hot and sour soup. He likes spicey food - but it was too spicy for him. It was removed with an understanding smile and we were not charged. Gold star! We all ordered mains. My wife had Keralla Pepper Chicken that she loved. I had Travancore Lamb Curry - one of the very best dishes I have ever eaten. It was quite spicy, but the spice did not hit you immediately - the flavours just grew and did not overpower the soft succulent lamb. A warning - many of the dishes are quite spicy - if asked, some (not all) can be toned down - but may be not the place for someone who does not enjoy spicy food.Everything was washed down with very reasonably priced Cobras; pricing in general was fair and reasonable. Overall we were extremely impressed. I am getting bored with routine Turkish, Indian, Chinese food and Italian pasta dishes which differ little from restaurant to restaurant. I want something different - Red Chillizes has just that and we will be back to try other dishes, and be a bit more adventurous. We will try some of the street food and different types of bread that are on the menu. With a 5 star hygenne rating in the middle of the front door for all to see, I have no hesitation in giving this restaurant 5 stars.

Pushy sales waitress pushing food at you. "Try the bread" "Try this drink" etc. Prices of the drinks are ridiculous. One dish was too spicy so they took it back to add some more coconut milk to it and the dish came back too hot to eat because it had been blasted in the microwave! For a Saturday night at 7pm there was a total of 8 people In the restaurant. No atmosphere.A TV is on showing music videos. No food options for children.Tried it, wasn't impressed and £117 lighter. Will not be returning.

This is a bit different to the other Indians I’ve been to, they do more authentic foods to the area of India that they come from so I’m told. Staff were friendly and helpful in explaining the foods, everything I ate was very nice and spiced to your liking. Tried for the first time after reading good reviews.Left feeling hungry still. There does not seem to be anything not too hot & spicy on the menu After explaining did not want too spicy, was assured whatever I chose could be changed,. unfortunately that did not happen .I had to request that separately, it was taken away, but only half the amount came back just sweetened almost to Korma style.it contained one tiny piece of potato. ( bearing in mind it was suppose to be the lamb and potato curry.) The pilau rice was also disappointing..It was a pity that I was not asked if everything was o.k.Needless to say a disappointing experience..

This is REAL Indian food and an absolute must to experience. It is not the same old British Restuarant/Bangla curry that can be found in abundance in any UK town. in fact I'm confident that a curry will never be the same again once you been to this place. This is the genuine INDIAN article and this is by far and away the very best among a handful of such Indian or Sri Lankan restaurants that I have found so far east of London let alone into Essex. It is worth the journey to get to as you won't find food this good and authentic in many places outside of India. The menu will be pretty much unrecognisable to most people but it includes a great range of authentic Keralan / Indian starters, mains, breads and desserts. From the very outset the poppadoms came with 4 incredible and more-ish home-made chutneys; beetroot/orange, pineapple, mint with home-made yoghurt and also one made from dates. There are numerous seafood and fish dishes and vegetarian sides and mains that could fool or surprise a meat eater; try the Gobi 65 (lightly battered and spices cauliflower) as it was amazing . We also had a great fried squid dish seasoned heavily with strong black pepper (and it had a real kick). The mains were incredible and we recommend the Grandma's Chicken Curry (on the bone) for its depth of flavour and the awesome Kerala Red Fish (salmon) Curry. The brown rice was great too (not too brown but big thick special rice grains unique to Kerala) whilst the paratha was a layered spiral of light and delicate bread that you'll need to soak up every last drop of the sauces with the mains. The Prosecco (One to One brand) was incredible too and on par with Champagne in its flavour and is not available outside the trade apparently. The owner Jaimon was great and guided us through the menu and warned us that it might be spicy and that he could tone it down if we wanted it. Don't do the latter though as none of it was anywhere near as hot as a Jalfrezzi let alone a Madras or Vindaloo an we think anyone can manage the heat (unless they limit themselves to a Korma). The food was spiced and seasoned perfectly and the depth of the flavour was absolutely amazing and way beyond anything we've tried within a 40mile radius. This place deserves to be listed among the very best that Southend and Westcliff has to offer. More importantly it is among the very best REAL Indian restaurants east of London, so it is a destination that is well worth seeking out. Personally I'd rather go here than to any other 'Indian' restaurant.

And they understand what a vegan is, and the idfference to a vegetarian and obviously a meat-eater.All three are catered for here.Traditional Indian food at it's best. I'm a fan.Try the Indian doughnuts they're great and you won't find them anywhere else. Then I had a great vada, I think it was. A lovely daal with spinach and uttapam 'bread' to go with it.Lush I tried a side dish too. And this was great. Green beans with coconut. Lovely. All the food is freshly prepared on site and this is really evident in the uniqueness of the food without that typical “greasy” feeling after many Indians.Would recommend everyone try this place, you won’t be disappointed would give more starts if allowed.

It was our first visit and I have to say i was truly impressed, the staff are extremely friendly and very helpful atmosphere is lovely. I’m a vegetarian my husband meat eater we were recommended to try the onion Bhajis and spinach bites they were amazing. My husbands main dish was a lamb shank which was a special and mine Aubergine Theeyal with a side of rice and Beans Thoran. All these dishes are authentic and nothing was greasy you didn’t get that stodgy feeling like you can with some foods. Even better they offer Vegan nights too. I will happily be returning and even getting a takeaway. Look forward to seeing you soon.

My friend’s father recommended this restaurant and I visited a couple of weeks ago. The quality of the good and the welcome from all staff was exceptional. All dishes were beautifully described by the owner with helpful detail on how everything is healthily prepared using minimal heavy oils. They have a vegan night on a regular basis which I shall try. It’s such a surprise to find a “different” kind of Indian restaurant to your bog standard curry house. I urge you to try it.

I stay in Southend with work 4 days a week which means eating out a lot. This means I have tried many restaurants including many Indian restaurants. This was by far the best Indian I have had and really authentic South Indian food - as if I was in Kerala! Highly recommend. Staff are also lovely and place is reasonably priced

We loved the welcome we got, and our server (possibly the manager) was great at talking us through the options and dishes. There are loads of vegan options, which is great for me, and quite difficult to find in Indian restaurants. I tried a (coconut) milk addam for the first time (see pic) and it was excellent – kind of like a thin peshwari.

Every single thing we ordered was a delight. The food is quite different from most other Indian restaurants, as it specialises in dishes from Kerala. Many of the usually expected favourites are not on the menu - but oh wow, the new (to us) dishes that are featured are certainly favourites now. The staff member who served us was extremely knowledgeable and charming, and made some fabulous suggestions. Don’t miss the incomparable home-made chutneys, the onion bhajis, the spinach bites or the chicken 65. Each main dish we ordered brought similar levels of oohing and ahhing, and was deliciously light and fresh. I can heartily recommend the banana and rum pudding too - I don’t generally even like bananas, but this was definitely an exception! Will be returning. Often.

after ordering takeaway from a faultless indian restaurant in the nearby area, I decided to give red chillies a go, the first thing I noticed when I arrived was how quiet the place was given it was a Friday night, so at least the wait for takeaway wont be long, I ordered trevencore lamb curry with pilau rice and butter curry plus spinach bites and onion bhaji, so whilst waiting for my curry I spoke to the staff about kerelan cuisine and he hyped it up saying that there dishes are not oily and totally different to anything else in the area so I was looking forward to the amazing food I was about to eat.I took my order home and they had included a homemade mint sauce and pineapple chutney both were very nice,BUT, that was the only thing that was nice as upon opening my curry I was greeted to what I can only describe as a water laden mess but being me I thought id give it a go. The lamb was overcooked child bite sized pieces one piece even had a pipe in it and the sauce so watery it was like a spicy cup of soup the taste was so so bland absolutely no flavour at all and to top it all off there was a weird film of oil floating on top my partners butter chicken was pretty much the same tiny cubes of chicken swimming in oily sauce NO flavour, pillau rice tasted like it had been heated in a microwave but the only thing I can say was the spinach bites were fairly alright and the onion bhajis were average but sadly fell apart in the bag needless to say I bined the whole lot . So all in all I give this place 5 stars for staff friendliness but 0 stars for food. very disappointing.

Nice Ambience and friendly staff. The quality and taste were much better last year . Disappointed this time . Some dishes were too salty and drinking all night. Some South Indian dishes : priced individually. Pickles too expensive.

What a great find, the food is frankly fantastic, authentic flavours and prepared very well without loads of oil like many Indians. Excellent service. The only down side is the portions are generous so we could not try more dishes . You have to try the house special fish and the dry beef.

I love this Restaurant, the staff are welcoming, friendly and explain to you the origins of each dish so on top of the food being sensational you actually learn about Kerela,India aswell! This is not your Typical Indian Cuisine, if your preferred dish is Tikka massala or Korma for instance you will not find that here, instead you will find authentic South Indian Dishes that you probably haven’t tasted before but once you do it will be hard to go back! Absolutely Delicious 5 stars!

We’ve ordered from Red Chilliezs many times for takeaways and have been impressed with their extensive vegan options and fresh, tasty food. We recently visited the restaurant for the first time for a vegan night buffet. We were all so impressed with the food! It’s so flavourful, fresh & delicious. They do not use excess oil, additives or processed foods in their cooking - and you can definitely tell! We will be spreading the word and are looking forward to bringing the rest of the family to the next vegan night on the 8th May!

Our last visit was a beautiful dish from the newley introduced special menu, sea bass filled with prawns and a delicious sauce. We didn't give it the time it deserved as we were on route to the cinema but the waiter made sure our meal was out promptly. As a South Indian restaurant, vegan and vegetarian options are superb, Masala Dosa a must. I recently had a big birthday party celebration for which Redchillizes provided an excellent buffet of meat, vegetarian, vegan and gluten free options, all carefully served separately and much appreciated by my guests.

Friendly, attentive service and excellent food, for us it was just a shame that they had a TV screen playing Bollywood clips etc. It's a personal preference to only have music on whilst eating and socialising....screen images seem to drain the atmosphere. But to finish on a positive we did have a good night and the food was very tasty indeed.

Atmosphere was poor, felt very cold.Butter chicken dish was very good, very tasty. The waiter was very pushy kept asking us to order certain things and try this and try that. We just wanted to sit down and catch up but felt he was constantly pestering us. He was coming over every 5-10 minutes to ask how are meal was. It was to much. Felt like he was sitting with us. Rice was very hard and dry, nan bread they had tasted like a pancake, my friend just wanted a Diet Coke but got asked and offered a lime drink and they wouldn’t take no for answer.Very annoyingWouldnt recommended
