Ramones Cafe in Cardiff

Really fancied a proper cooked breakfast and found this on trip advisor. It's a bit of a walk from town but we'll worth the effort. Great breakfast and friendly service, all for not very much money. Will definitely come again.

Some negative reviews but don't understand. Ordered breakfast special which gave you options of beans or Tom's hash browns or sliced fried pots. Food piping hot, tables clean and quickly cleared tea good. Overall price reasonable food excellent just what you need for a fry up brekkie.

This used to be the place for cheap massive portions and excellent fry ups. Popped in for a bacon sandwich. (£3.25 each). Two small pieces of bacon so burnt they were more like crisps. Place was pretty empty on a Saturday lunchtime so guess I’m not alone in noticing the drop in standards.

I left a note on the table before I left saying I would leave a review. And guess what! Here I am! Hope you saw it :) Me and my partner decided to go to this little café during our stay in Cardiff for my birthday. I can say that the food was amazing! Literally nothing wrong at all, it was faultless!! The staff were really friendly, especially Jason who took our order this morning, very friendly and polite :). There was only 1 bad thing that I can think of..... I got ketchup on my jeans! Haha. If we come back to Cardiff anytime, we will definitely be coming back! Was AMAZING!!!! A simple cafe, excellent value. The breakfasts are very good both in terms of value and quality. Staff are friendly and accommodating. Don’t expect haute cuisine but if you are looking for a no frills cafe it’s great

Four of us are breakfast here and enjoyed every mouthful! I had the mega breakfast and it was quality, very enjoyable with extremely generous portion sizes. Two of us had the American breakfast with waffles and the fourth had the veggie breakfast. All of us enjoyed it immensely. Great place to eat if you’ve had too many beverages at the rugby the evening before!

It's not a pretentiousness cafe, it's an institution.. Clean simple place great food and I mean great food.lovely staff, great service Best full English in cardiff hands down

I would give 0 if I could. I was over charged by the rude member of staff that I was served by. She seemed flustered and disinterested in the standard of service she was providing. After getting my cold rubbery breakfast alongside my cheap and flavourless orange juice I noticed a rogue chip on my plate, that told me exactly how much the chef cared. My vegetarian friend ordered an eggs benedict that came with bacon even tho it didn’t say it on the menu, when she politely told a staff member she was told to just scrape it off and that the kitchen was being closed so nothing could be done about it. Over all we all left very disappointed and still hungry because none of us actually finished our meals so ended up in greggs across the road. This place needs to close

been going there for years I ordered breakfast and was very disappointed plus noticed it as new owners and cooks that can't cook properly, sausages was still pink in colour,and the eggs are burnt at the bottom not silky like the other owners from last year would i have anything from here again no sorry bring back the old owners. Would I recommend no i suggest everyone to look else where

My gf & I went to Ramon's on Salisbury Rd, Cardiff this morning. We had a few too many drinks last night and felt the need for a cooked breakfast. Neither of us were disappointed. Joanne had the mini- breakfast and I went for the mega-breakfast. I did change the black pudding and mushrooms for extra bacon & sausages and they did me proud by adding 3 extra sausages and 3 extra bacon. Best breakfast I have ever had 😃

Visited today with friends from out of town. Friendly staff good service and lovely food made it a great place for breakfast. One small criticism- please source better sausages!! The ones you have are not nice- very bready!! You would have had 5* were it not for that sausage!!

New owners/management and its such a shame. Ramones has always been the best brekkie in Cardiff until now, price increase for poorer ingredients and no more free refill coffee, they'll charge you £1.50 for a spoon of instant coffee and milk!! After 16 year of loyal custom under several different owners this recent change is just awful. I can no longer recommend Ramones thanks to the new owners.

We had breakfast at Ramons we are not local.i did a search for cafes. What a lovely place. I had full fry up my fiance had a American breakfast. Tasty warm food.friendly helpful service as im quite a fussy person. Very efficient. I can highly recommend and would return if im ever here again.Good value for money. Thank you.

Been visiting most Saturdays for past two years,on visiting today found most of the items on the breakfast been replaced with cheaper variety,the ash browns remain the same.dont know if ramons ownership has changed our changed supplier of your meats.but guys you need to go back to the way you used to do the best brekky in Cardiff

Best cafe in Cardiff for meals especially breakfasts. Staff are extremely friendly and professional. The price is excellent and the food is the best. Best breakfast I've ever tasted in Cardiff.

I visited here once as a student and it was good. Portion sizes are massive and it's well worth the money.

Was looking for a late breakfast/brunch. Googled breakfast cafe and this cafe came up. Looked at some of the pictures and it looked pretty decent.

After a great Breakfast previously at Ramones, it was time to see if my expectations could be lived up to a second time around.

Havent been to Ramons for many years, so stopped by and had a late brekky. Whilst it was good, I couldnt help note that it wasnt a patch on the Ramons of days gone by.

Legendary Cardiff caff, selling allegedly the biggest breakfast in the UK. Friendly, quick service, large portions of well cooked food. Full at 7 am, with builders packing in the calories before starting work. Recommended.

We kozen voor het special breakfast menu. Heerlijke ham, bonen lekker, 2 gepocheerde eitjes en overheerlijke worstjes. Dat allemaal voor nog geen £6. Alleen de koffie was slecht. Oploskoffie met teveel water.

Lovely breakfast and you don't have to wait long for it. The menu is extensive. The staff are friendly and would recommend.

Went to this cafe regularly a few years ago. Went back today, been refurbished and changed but the food was as excellent as it was a few years back. Great value for money. I’ve had breakfasts and food all around the world and Ramon’s is still my favourite

Voy a sacar mis pequeños inconvenientes del camino primero. El café es instantáneo, no me malinterpretes, está bien si lo esperas. Tantos lugares lugares hacen café molido ahora que es inusual no estar disponible. Tomaré té en el futuro. La otra queja es personal, no hay acceso para sillas de ruedas. Tuve que luchar en stick para entrar, por suerte puedo. De lo contrario, si quieres un freír a las 7: 30 a.m., 7 días a la semana. Lo has encontrado Buena comida sana, bien hecha y abundante. Precios realmente buenos también. Todas las cosas habituales de desayuno disponibles, pero también la tarifa del almuerzo hasta las 3 pm. Cuando me apetece un colesterol especial temprano en la mañana, sé a dónde ir.

My hubby is GF and when he asked what could he have they said nothing. Very odd as eggs and beans are normally ok .Went across the road and cafe staff were excellent.

I have been frequenting this place since 1988. Cheap eats, huge portions and good service. What more do you want.

When we stay up in Cardiff, we always go for breakfast the morning after as £10 for a hotel breakfast is outrageous. We usually go to cafe37 across the road but it wasn’t open so we decided to try Ramones. We found a seat and decided what to eat. The staff are very friendly. The menu on the wall is quite extensive and reasonably priced.

Breakfast is amazing and cheep for what you get. Had a curry and a Sunday lunch there both very nice and very cheep. Don’t know what more I can add. Just go!!

Iconic greasy spoon located a short walk from the city centre. Good size portions and great value for money. They've been serving cooked breakfasts for years and I love this place. The vegetarian cooked breakfast is great.

Ramons has changed a lot since I first visited nearly 20 years ago but the new interior is a lot more comfortable than the days of old but still offers the best value breakfasts in town.

I suppose it is mean of me to give this restaurant 1 star based on the service from the FEMALE staff alone,They clearly deserve a 0 but it's Sadly not an option here!! The food is very nice but the service was extremely poor, such a let down of such a clean well maintained cafe!

I started coming to Ramones for my Sunday morning post hangover breakfast back in 1997 and still pop in when I am back in Cardiff.

Stopped in for a good old fashion English breakfast, service was honest and with a smile :) the food was delicious :)

Un grupo de 8 o así cayó en Ramons brunch antes de cricket y cerveza. Todos tuvimos desayunos que eran una excelente relación calidad-precio. No vayas por el mayor desayuno. . . Las normales son más que suficientemente grande. Buen ambiente y servicio rápido. Todos los ingredientes muy bien aparte de salchichas que estaba bien, pero no se puede esperar todo por un billete.

Gran desayuno agradable y té y café ilimitado por sólo un billete. No te puedes equivocar! El personal es agradable, el servicio es rápido y hay WiFi gratuito. Sin duda lo recomiendo.

Called in for one of their breakfasts. Had the mega which was great. Don't go looking for gourmet cooking as this is cafe that serves basic dishes but gives fantastic value for money. Well worth a visit.

Oh yes this was needed after my heavy night out.Currently in Wales for the weekend and my friends took me for a 'Ramones Full English' and it was lush!My next visit I will be back.

I went here today, I ordered a cheese and onion omelette and chips. There was no cheese in the omelette and the chips had been recycled. You could tell because they were really well done, but cold. The service is unfriendly too,the staff just plonk food on your table, no smile, no "enjoy your meal". They don't give you a knife and fork or a serviette, these are back where you ordered, no mention of this until the food arrives and the waitress walks off leaving you looking like a plum. I can't say I'd recommend it. It is cheap though, for a reason.

Always get a takeaway bacon bap and tea for only £2.60!!! Can't get that anywhere these days. Bap is super big and bread is super soft.

I am a regular visitor to Ramon's. They have great food at very reasonable prices. Their daily special allows you to get a meal and a dessert for £4 - bargain! They don't skimp on the portion sizes either!! They've just brought in a new menu, which is extensive and has a good variety of food.

Best veggie breakfast ever, plenty of food well cooked and presented with a cuppa for a fiver. Recommended

We tried Ramones as we were fed up with something always being wrong in other place we used to visit. Was a lovely surprise...great food and great prices. We have used Ramones weekly since we found it and never had a issue with the food. We even took the kids over the xmas period and they gave it a big thumbs up. Excellent all round. Husband tried the American breakfast which he loved and he's a chef so can be really picky.

I arranged to meet up with one of my mates for a spot of lunch. As we'd been to Ramons for breakfast in the past, we thought we would give it a try for lunch, and what a good move that was.We ordered the chicken cooked dinner which was just flipping huge and also the 'free' spotted dick desserts. The cost of the two weighed in at an incredible £4 for the entire lunch. To say that is value for money is an understatement. The food was also delicious.As far as I'm concerned, Ramons will never be beaten on quality or price. It has remained in Salisbury Road because it's so good. Others may have come and gone, but Ramons will always be the best and long may it continue.

I used the other day after a party. I was in need of some stodge and grease. I ordered a "mega" breakfast and it was a big feed. I tried my best to eat as much as I could. Ramons is great value for money.

Had family coming to stay and looked up "best breakfasts in Cardiff" on search engine. A few came up and we picked Ramones. Not disappointed at all. English or American style breakfasts and very good prices and the portions are huge. Been back twice since and each visit does not disappoint, particularly great after a night out in the beer

Stumbled upon this cafe on a recent trip to Cardiff , it's your typical Greasy Spoon style cafe, good food, great value for money overall worth a visit if passing !!

Had American waffles, bacon and maple syrup.I gave four star mainly for the price. It's pretty cheap for what you get and you do get a lot. Otherwise it's probably a three for the food but based purely on my American waffles. I've had much better ones in other places. But it's still good in there. I would recommend but I don't think it's the best for breakfast.

this place i have been eating in for 16 years plus. there has been several changes over the years but can honesty say never have i or anyone i know ever had to complain. food is good value and good quality. when the rescission was on there was a saver menu and thats was brill but some years later its still excellent value for money. well done all esp Rob for all the improvements to the place but please keep the food the way its always been just quality thanks for always good grub

A lot of food for a low price! Wasn't great though, we had an omelette and the American breakfast. It was quick while passing through early on a Saturday morning, although parking was a little difficult to find initially. Perhaps we didn't order well, but it was just decent.

You never know if you'll get a slug in your lettuce or some good knockers in the red tabloids lying about. Always great and never disappoints. Double banging.

I've been coming here on and off for over 25 years, since being a student living down the road. Pleased to say that Ramones has never disappointed all this time. Had been a few years since the last time, but the special is only 4 pounds something. Not much of an increase considering it was 2 pounds in 1990. Over the years, can see also it's been gradually refurbished from time to time too, remains clean and bright. Service is fast and efficient, not especially cheerful this time, but that adds to the charm.

My brother in law, a bus driver, took us to this wonderful restaurant. Of course all bus drivers know the best places to eat. Ramone's did not disappoint! I strongly suggest the "Dinners". They consist of beef or chicken, perfectly cooked carrots, peas, turnips, Yorkshire pudding, mashed potatoes and delicious grave on a huge plate. Please note they only make so many dinners a day so go early. Other food looked really good as well. In total, we had three dinners, two burgers and fries, 4 soft drinks for a total less than 25 pounds sterling. The restaurant is very clean and the staff are very friendly. My breakfast was amazing value for money. Tasty beans, egg and bacon etc. Been going for years and wouldn't think about going anywhere else. Love the new decor, very classy and a lovely layout. The staff are helpful and always police. Overall amazing place to have breakfast.

The food here is fantastic. We had the veggie breakfast and the Mega breakfast and they were both lovely. The portions are huge and its cheap for the amount you get. Definitely coming back again.

Went for breakfast yesterday (20/05/2016) after what seems like years, due to the refurbishment, and I'm so happy to say the changes have made it even better.It was always the best and most honest, as well as the least expensive, of all the breakfast eateries in Cardiff, or Wales for that matter, and it did not disappoint.A slice of Cardiff history, revamped, but still true to the tradition of great food at great prices, popular with everyone from builders, students, professionals, and families to my favourite place to take visitors for a real 'taste' of Cardiff.They now do an American Menu, with all the usual suspects, but I'm particularly drawn to sampling their take on Eggs Benedict, with six slices of bacon, three poached eggs, toasted muffins/crumpets, smothered in Hollandaise sauce, so I'll be back, probably early tomorrow, if I can wait that long.

Family and I needed to get out of the house quickly early one Saturday morning and there is no better way to get my family shifting than suggesting that we eat breakfast out! Used to frequent Ramones as a student when the decor and in fact ambience was a lot more basic!All of us ordered a Builders Breakfast which was good value at £4.50. For this you get a fried egg, two rashers of good bacon, a questionable sausage (?) a very tasty slice of black pudding, deliciously fried mushrooms, two triangles of what was supposed to be fried bread, (but might as well have been toast as it was the healthiest tasting fried bread I have ever eaten) with either a choice of tinned tomatoes or baked beans. They also give you free bread and butter. The breakfast itself was fine, the highlights being the black pudding and the mushrooms. I was a bit put out that tea had to be purchased separately as I distinctly remember years ago that all breakfasts came with a cup of tea or coffee. My 11 yr old could not resist the American pancakes and bacon breakfast which featured 3 gargantuan saucer sized American pancakes with maple syrup. Unfortunately it looked rather more impressive than it tasted as they were way too dense to enjoy and my son struggled to finish them without our assistance. The bacon however was a triumph as they were nice and crispy as promised by the description on the board.To conclude I would give this place a go for yourself. It is good value on the whole and perhaps the other types of breakfasts are better than the 'Builders' one we had but I would steer clear of the pancakes unless they change the recipe. My husband who is an American pancake expert reckoned that the batter was either not freshly made, didn't use self raising flour or lacked the necessary quantity of baking powder or simply had not been whisked enough which was why they were so heavy.

Came here before an exam as it was the only place open from 6am. It was really quiet (arrived 7pm), and service was really fast both for ordering and getting our food.Had pancakes with bacon from the American menu (£4) and a cuppa (£1), and it was really good! The portions were insane though, 3 massive pancakes and I could only finish just under half! I'd definitely recommend sharing or asking to half your portion if they do that, merely cause I felt so bad wasting so much! Tea and coffee is nothing special, just like you make at home. But it definitely did the trick in the morning and was delicious. Would definitely go back when a meal this size was all for a fiver!

Excellent well cooked breakfast in pleasant surroundings. An interesting menu with a selection of American breakfasts with pancakes etc. My breakfast came with sautéed potatoes in addition to the usual items. The non- breakfast items look quite tempting too. I'll definitely be returning

Popped in for breakfast - the first time in a few years. Propper cooked breakfast (the Builders) - freshly cooked and superb. Clean and with friendly staff. just wonder why we havent visited for such a long time.

I have been to Ramon's many times in the past, but this is the first time I've been there since the new decor.I didn't think I would like the new look but how wrong could I be. It's a big improvement on the old 'greasy spoon' look and the food is as good as ever. I always remember the old Ramon's always had a decent crowd and the new one is just the same. It has to be the best cafe in Cardiff simple as that.

I went to this cafe going back a few years ago has I was working in the area. It was amazing food then with very friendly staff. I was doing a training course this morning so though A why not lefts visit Ramones again. It looks Totley different inside has a full revamp. Even tho it was not shabby before it looks even better now. I was not starved but hungry so only orders the large breakfast why was enough to feed 2 may I had lol. Once again the food was spot on staff where very friendly. This place is second to none. You can have a challenge brakefast here which if you eat you get yr pic on the wall. Good luck with that one lol

Ramones is my first choice for breakfast when the world is not in complete harmony.The minute you step in the front door you know its going to be ok, they always deliver the best breakfast they can in the shortest possible time. Sit back, relax and get on with your day.

Since the refit it's lost it's charm poor service so slow dirty table's clueless staff which is a shame a shadow of it's former glory.

Pretty cheap for the portion sizes. Great food and atmosphere. Nice new refurbishment. But always busy so be prepared for the wait.

Ramone's is a great stop for a very large, very tasty, and very cheap meal. Just over £5 for the American breakfast - I couldn't eat it all. Just don't expect gourmet coffee... Well worth a stop for a quick breakfast that will keep you going all day.

This was my first visit to RAMONS for over 10 years. Considering the queue to the poor girl taking the orders the food came quickly and was pretty good. The door to the kitchen was open and that too was a hive of activity.The queue to take orders is too long really and the girl also had to make tea, coffee, poor juices etc. However, the length of time taken seemed to be due to fussy ordering and people changing their mind or not knowing what they wanted despite being in a queue for ages!I would certainly return - especially when the students are not on their courses!

Went there for a meal THE WORST I HAVE EVER HAD when I got home I could not leave the toilet thought I was going to die which was surprising because when I got there I looked at there food and higine sticker right in the centre of the window was a rating of 5 but after looking on the Internet they only have a rating of 1 this should not be allowed the place needs shutting down it's a health hassard GIVE IT A MISS AND STAY AWAY.

Everytime i am in Cardiff this is where i come for cooked breakfast, although it has an extensive menu. Its also my father in laws fave cafe, he comes every day for his dinner and has whetever is on special!

For a hearty breakfast to help cure any hangover, you cant go far wrong with Ramones. The helpings are always on the large side and the price is more than resonable.They do a good range of dishes - theres something for everyone. Even the Man V's Food fans are catered for with the suicide 6 wing challange and the monter breakfast on offer.....if you are brave enough that is, :)

Have been meaning to go to Ramones since starting uni in September, but only this morning had the opportunity. I found the food to be awesome, the staff were very friendly and the price was more than student friendly! It is usually pretty busy in there, but at 6am it was just me and one other customer, perfect for having just finished a night shift. Will definitely be going there again. :-)

My wife and I have been to Ramones on many occasions and have not been disappointed to date, the breakfasts are plentyfull but my favourite is the eggs benadict at £5.70, a perfect starter for the day, the staff are friendly but very busy, this is a very popular cafe so there are sometimes you have to wait but it is never more than a couple of minutes, as long as the quality stays I can see this as a long time watering hole, give it a try.

Ramon's is an institution and deservedly so.The place is small and often packed out because you get a really, really good cooked breakfast (and plenty of it) at bargain basement prices.I've been there many times and I've never come away disappointed or hungry. It's my go - to breakfast place when in Cardiff.

I often wonder how long the new batch of Uni students in Cardiff take to discover the wonder that is Ramon's. But once they have found it, I doubt many look further. Excellent food at excellent prices, an excellent broad menu served in an excellent atmosphere. The greasy spoon's are sadly dying out, so before they all go, try the best in Cardiff!

This is a great little cafe right in the heart of student-ville in Cardiff. It serves great traditional food including a brilliant English breakfast and lunch specials in huge portions at a great price. Proper greasy spoon with no frills the staff are lovely and its a great place to go for a feed after a night out in Cardiff!

Think I've made a mistake putting this on here as I may not get a seat next time I'm there. It's a proper Café and its even been in Dr Who (its been done up since then) It's in the student area of Cardiff but its well worth a visit even if the parking's not the best in the area and not just for the Full English (yum) they also do a roast on a Sunday. I work all over Cardiff and south wales and this is my 1st choice if I have time to stop for food. Never had a bad meal here, it's not the biggest place but if it's not raining (I know but we do get the odd dry day) there is a seating area out back but I've never used it always get a seat within a few mins.
