Rami Tandoori And Balti House in St Albans

Whenever we go up to Rami’s we always get a great welcome and excellent service and last night, New Years Eve, was no exception. We popped in early evening after a drink across the road and got the usual cheerful welcome although the restaurant was empty. The Popadoms came quickly as did the wine. For mains I had Royal Chicken, Mrs C had Satay Chicken + rice + Sag Aloo. Later on, as we left to walk home they were awaiting a few more customers and hopefully they all turned up. Ours was another excellent meal in a local, friendly restaurant which deserves much more recognition.

Ordered a take out on Friday night. Had my usual king prawn sag and plain naan and it was so disappointing. The prawns were horrendous, small and overcooked is an understatement. The naan was dry. The sauce was tasty. The rest of the order was fine but I can’t help feeling that the produce isn’t what it used to be the quality just isn’t there, this isn’t the first time either. I have complained previously and been offered something free the next time but that’s always forgotten about.

We went here for the first time 3 people - food was actually not bad . However the owner doesn’t take kindly to queries or complaints and has a sarcastic rude and patronising attitude . The saag bhaji and mushroom bhaji were tiny portions , even as side dishes . My sister was told her chicken tikka would come with its own salad and we ended up with a very small limp sorry salad for 3. When she asked about her own salad he was just plain rude . Won’t be going back - other options !

Saturday evening and rather than getting a take away we wandered up to Rami’s. As usual – we received a great welcome with immediate service. The menu is extensive with plenty of choice and our food was excellent. The cosy restaurant had a few people in but by the time we had finished at 10 it was empty. They do a great take away service and that was keeping them busy. Perhaps people are not ready to go out yet but they should as the restaurant is clean and bright and every time we’ve been we’ve never been disappointed. We’ll be back.

Ordered a meal this evening and collected 40 mins later. Social distancing, masks, one person inside at a time, hand sanitiser all there, all good. We’ve been ordering take outs from Rami for years and it’s usually yummy but sadly my dish was awful tonight. I ordered the vegetarian tikka masala, usually I’d order a fish dish or chicken but fancied trying something without meat. I regretted it straight away. As soon as I took the lid off it looked like it had been sat on the side for ages or even worse that it had been frozen and reheated. The consistency was congealed and it looked like it had split. It was hot but very mushy and tasteless. Usually a tikka masala is very saucy and creamy but this was like mash potato....I did call and spoke to the manager who said it’s because of the coconut in it that binds it together and that if I’d have wanted a sauce I should have asked for one! How was I supposed to know it was going to be mash potato, it’s not like that with chicken or fish??!!! Anyways, the rest of the food was nice, chicken curry, chicken korma and chicken madras... Will give them another chance and maybe order it again and see what it’s like next time, but it was an expensive dish to throw 3 quarters of it away so maybe not.

Great takeaway - it’s the fourth time we’ve ordered from them. We love a good curry and the Rami is consistently great. Chicken tender and generous portion sizes.

I ordered a take away earlier this week. First time I have used this restaurant but it won't be the last. Food was on time, very tasty and still hot.

Was staying at the Mercure Hotel a couple of miles outside St Albans. 10 minutes walk away is a good pub the Three Hammers. Opposite that tjis great Indian. Great food and hospitality from a very humorous waiter. The Peshwari naan was amazing as we're the curries

I took my father here for a birthday dinner and first visit was a great experience. On entry approximately 6-7pm one evening, there was not a lot of people inside and a couple of minutes the place switched to very busy with orders going out and walk-ins turning up every so many minutes. The reason for this could be down to the great service received from all staff working here and the high quality food that was brought to my table. Good size portions and very good value for money. I highly recommend the half tandoori chicken that comes sizzling straight to your table. Good place, great people but little car parking. I recommend this little gem of St Albans.

A very nice menu, efficient order taking and delivery executed promptly. Sensibly packed for delivery to arrive as intended and most importantly very tasty.

Avoid this restaurant. They do not honour meerkats 2:1 meals. We went as a family of 7, rang and explained using this offer. Couldn’t understand what the owner said, but when we sat down, he insisted that only one free meal was being given and the offer was at the restaurants discretion. I explained that he had to offer 3 meals free as it was not an excluded day. Ruined our evening. Food however was good but small portions. Waiter was sympathetic to us. I have complained to Meerkats to remove this restaurant from their website as they are using it purely as advertising.

Just got a takeaway from here. Practically cold, poor quality. I called to inform them as normally better quality and hot. They were not particularly bothered. Basically dismissed complaint. We shall steer clear in future and suggest you do!

Rami is a local restaurant and take away in Chiswell Green. The food is freshly prepared, tasts good and looks good. There is also an option to eat in, which is nice to pop with a group of friends or family. The staff is very pleasant and helpful. They offer a home delivery service to local residents too, which is very convenient. Very nice place, I am glad we have this small restaurant in our area.

To satiate a sudden urge for indian cuisine we stopped by this often driven past establishment, and enjoyed an acceptable evening. The food was above average, and staff and owner friendly and welcoming, though teh establishment commanded st alban prices being above average.

My husband and I had dinner here last night. The food was first class as was the service. I would highly recommend it.

Proper local curry house. Staff are friendly and helpful, but not the most skilful at service. Menu has all the favourites plus house specials. All the food we had was tasty, good naans and sides - too. Food is reasonably priced but the drinks soon load the bill. However, would be happy to go again.

Both my starter and main were very small. I ordered Paneer Tikka for starter and was given 4 dice-sized cubes of paneer for £5. Very poor value. My main was tasty, but also woefully small. My wife ordered an aubergine dish which looked and tasted very bland. Peshwari naans were amazing though, so at least one thing was good. Overall very poor value for money. Probably the first time I've left an Indian restaurant still hungry.

Some parking is available, although the ground is a bit rough.Not wheelchair friendly, as the entrance door immediately turns right, making entry problematic. Also, toilets are not disable friendly.The staff were welcoming, and gave me a nice table - none of this hiding the solo guest in the dark corner.I ordered, a starter, main and pudding... and they arrived rather to quickly for my liking, I’d have preferred a few minutes rest between courses.The food was excellent, very well spiced, presented.The one small problem, they over charged me, and so far have made no effort to rectify the problem.If it were not for the overcharging, they would have scored 4.

Came here on a recommendation,told they done a Tuesday deal , wasn't given to us had to ask ,deal wasn't great so decided to us tastecard . Staff seemed relluctant for us to us it said we needed more then one card which we had ,but didn't need as deal on tastcard is 241 x6 their was 4 of us . 241 on tastecard means you can order anything main ,starter,side etc ...which we did ...

Love this place! We don't often get take away but when we do it's usually from Rami. Friendly staff, great food! Nice little place to eat in at too. Lucky for us it's local!

We had a take away on Saturday night We order food and it cost us £30 pound we had chicken tikka masala and lamb masala the food taste sweet and not nice and give us tummy ache the next day and that's the only food we eat the night before..the food the cost us £30 quid, that contain 7pieces of lamb and 7 pieces of chicken and a bucket full of orange sauce..what we order that night is 1 masala chicken 1lamb masala 2 naan bread and 1rice with a tag of £30 pounds.i love Indian food but the food that we order is not taste the same as what I eat to others Indian restaurant the food is horrible and full of sauce,for sure that our first order in that restaurant and also our last..

We had a fantastic meal at Rami on Monday evening. The service was excellent and the food was absolutely fantastic. I would highly recommend it.

This restaurant is very clean. friendly and the food is excellent. One very good point is that the food is always very hot, and no long wait for service. Take away and home delivery are also very good. Very pleasant and helpful staff.

There is limited parking outside, and the ground is quite rough - if you have issues with walking on rough ground, take care.

We went in for the Sunday special one weekend. I am local, and we used to love the awesome take-aways from Rami a few years ago. We've not ordered from Rami in the last year or so after a couple of fairly mediocre meals, but thought we'd give them one last try. The food was really bland and unimpressive throughout. Chicken samosa to start was actually not very pleasant at all, and there was a complete absence of flavour in the bhuna. About the best of it was the sag aloo. We ordered a pint of lime and soda each, and were surprised when we received the bill that we'd been charged £3.25 for each: You can get a pint of Brewdog Punk IPA in your local Wetherspoons for £3.50! If they didn't have optics, perhaps they should have mentioned this when we ordered the drinks. Service was pleasant.

I'm very sad to write a bad review as we've been coming here for years, both in the restaurant and takeaway. What has happened to this restaurant?? The food is so highly salted, tasteless, devoid of fresh herbs & spices and last night the sauces had been watered down, so were completely tasteless. The owner has always been so proud of the fact that he uses freshly ground spices & herbs but in the two sauce dishes we had (& in everything else), there was no fresh coriander or parsley or any spices to speak of. I should say we are not fans of highly spiced 'blow your head off' food, this is about poor dropped standards. This used to be such a great restaurant & takeaway.

ordered a take away, told one hour for delivery. After many phone calls food turned up at 10pm 2.5 hours late. Promised full refund by manager, rang the next day to sort this and told by owner he will not refund as we still got the food and they had say sorry so that should be good enough. very rude and dishonest company. Avoid!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The Rami now seems to be back on track (we've been going there for years and it had a very "off" patch about a year ago when food was not good. Food is fresh, tasty and not the usual brown slop that many Indian restaurants serve up. Their food is beautifully served, bright colours (I mean naturally coloured, not artificially) and oh so tasty. Breads are divine, especially the Peshwari naan, you could just eat that by itself!

My parents are housebound at the moment and were really looking forward to this takeaway. I’ve never been before as I don’t live that close but I was impressed with the friendliness of the staff. The food was lovely, a little more expensive than I had expected but I guess it is St Albans! I’d like to eat in as it had a nice feel.

My wife, a friend and I went to celebrate a birthday.

Went yesterday for my husbands birthday and was quite disappointed with the food.

Three of us went last week for a lads curry night and it was very disappointing. The food was just about ok but my Chicken Dansak had a hint of added chili sauce. The rice was mixed with some older rice (telltale sign of bits of rice stuck together). The restaurant has too many tables for the space and there is an overall feeling of maximising revenue from customers. To top it all, the bill was incorrect, additional cash had been added and although it was corrected (once we got the abacus out), that feeling of being taken for a ride was overwhelming. In summary, to be avoided as the prices are high and the food quality variable and you may have a painful conversation with the porcelain the next morning. It would also help if some of the staff understood what deodorant does.

Starters arrived cold and a little watery, Balti was a bit sickly/bland and naan bread was dry but dhansak was nice, overall disappointed .

Whilst the food is ok the service and customer service are diabolical..

I have been ordering from here for 12 years. The food is good and I understand Saturdays are busy. However, the terrible customer service I received tonight will mean I will need to find a new curry delivery service.

First time using Rami and we were really happy with the quality of the food. Our order was correct and it tasted great as well.

Food was good, however an item wasn't delivered- the restaurant was not very helpful, asking me to go in to get the refund myself. Agreed to drop around the item but it never appeared.

Situado en Chiswell verde con un montón de aparcamiento, que es una verdadera ventaja en la calle. Albans! Menú variado y interesante pero pocas sorpresas. Buena comida honesta y sabrosa que está bien presentado. El personal es eficiente y amable. Los costos son razonables dada la calidad y están en línea con otros restaurantes similares. Menú para llevar también está disponible.

Very good quality of food and service

Utilizamos a como su pollo tikka envolturas. . . . . . Últimamente, la chef ha drásticamente de tamaño en porciones. De hecho es bastante ofensivos. El contenido parecía más restos de izquierda. Donde estaba el pollo y la ensalada? ? Era sólo pan. Que pena por ti. Sin duda no te perder mi dinero aquí! ! ! !

He estado aquí varias veces y me gusta caminar desde el hotel Mercure noke. Fantástico servicio personalizado y fácil de modificar/añadir a platos. Gran presentación y buenos precios. Lo recomiendo sin duda.

Good environment and friendly staff. Quality of food is good. Caring staff. Nice ambience. My wife once lost her purse and a few minutes later a staff helped finding the purse. So far so good. Recommending others to give a visit.

Lovely dhansak as usual. Forgot the naan but when I rang, they delivered it in less than 10 minutes. Clearly really busy when I rang. Friendly staff as usual.

We have ordered takeaways from here most Saturday nights for the last few weeks and have been pleased with the quality. We have never had to wait too long for delivery and the gentleman who delivers really does epitomise service with a smile. The food is good - probably not the very best I have ever had but certainly brings a smile of contentment on a Saturday night. Some dishes I feel lack a depth of flavour - not heat but depth. For veggies the paneer is nicely cooked although it always surprises me that a meat dish will contain more meat than a paneer dish has paneer - 4 pieces I don't feel merits a main course dish. On the whole our favourite takeaway of the moment.

Eat here on a regular basis, friendly staff and good food for both eating in and take away. Would definitely recommend.

Found this place purely by accident, we were staying down the road and looking for something to eat. Parked up and found that all though a takeaway seating was also available about 20 covers possible. We were seatedand some mixed bought ( be careful here although I knew we would probably pay impression was complimentary ) we ordered our meal one Kalhari Lamb and one Kalhari chicken with rice and one naan. We also had two large diets cokes. The meal was excellent if a little overpriced the total cost just over £38.00 and most enjoyable, would happily go again if ever get the chance.

Ordered what I always do, however received pilau rice rather than plain. Food quality was fantastic as usual, though could've been hotter overall.

Easy to drive past as a little hidden on the small row of shops in chiswell green, however you must take the trouble to try this restaurant. Parking is very easy in the immediate streets if you can't park in front of the shops. The food will not disappoint, I've been there a dozen times and the food is always perfect. Nice team there too, cheerful.

Visited mid week, it was relatively quiet but we had booked a table, considering how quiet it was we were given a small table right by the cutlery area and takeaway waiting area, when the food arrived it barely fitted onto the table. The food was very good, drinks seemed quite expensive. The owner is very helpful, perhaps a bit too chatty, in contrast the other waiter didn't speak at all even. Would certainly go back or maybe get a takeaway.

We ordered for delivery to our hotel and it all arrived in good time. This is a little on the expensive side for what you get, but the food was all piping hot.Starters - Decent mixed kebab and meaty fish tikka. All cooked well, but a little low on flavour/spice.Main - Paneer Tikka Masala - Indian cottage cheese was well cooked, but the masala was a little disappointing as it was very sweet and heavy on the coconut. It tasted like the liquid version of the Peshwari filling. And that was it - cottage cheese pieces swimming in coconut. Some veg additions would have been nice and I personally would have preferred a tomato based masala with moderate spice (like a karai type of masala maybe).Sundries - Peshwari naan, decent amount of filling, not too much not too little. Plain naan cooked throughout. Only criticism is that they were so thick that you get full too quickly.It's OK, but a little bit too typical for my taste.

Being an Indian..I am aware of the Indian Taste and Spices... Order one Chicken Tikka Briyani... The Briyani was poor in taste and also the chicken tikka was very bad.. as if it has been prepared from past three days...

Whilst it wasn't particularly a speedy service - it was a Friday night. All this was made up by an extremely tasty meal and very friendly service. As a group we asked for their recommendations for mixed starters - very tasty and the main meals were just as tasty and flavoursome. Good portion sizes. Great evening out.

We go here as a couple and with visiting friends. Menu comprehensive, staff helpful and will adapt food, food lovely and colourful. Owner couldn't before helpful. Excellent value for money and parking outside

Ordered by phone and collected on time, but that was the only good part.Vegetable spring rolls were just a spicy mushy paste, chicken tikka masala had 5 small cubes of meat in a bright pinky orange soup and the naan bread was too burnt to eat.And this disaster cost over £17.Suggest you go elsewhere!

A very poor experience all round unfortunately. Staying with friends locally and decided to order a takeaway Saturday night. Ordered at 8pm and informed this would take 40mins to prepare.We walked down to collect at 845pm and were advised that it was not ready and would be another 5 minutes. There was a long queue of other customers and when pressed, we were told it would be longer than 5 minutes. Eventually we collected it at about 930pm - some1 1/2 hours after ordering. We were offered a discount of £3 for the delay - very generous as the food cost £56! When we arrived home we found one of the main courses was not there. Rami were contacted and they delivered this some 15 mins later. Not great food and not that warm unfortunately.Not a place I would like to return to.

The wife isn't too keen on Indian food so this was our first time together !!Although the restaurant was almost empty and a bit cold, the welcome and food was just lovely. Great starter and a really meaty special and the bottle of red was good too.The wife was just as impressed and as we can walk there and back - we'll be back.

it was just OK. Ambience OK. Service OK. Chicken Bhuna - sauce didn't taste that great or that fresh, plenty of chicken and OK quality but not much taste to the chicken, hadn't been marinaded. The meal was pretty cheap though, I'll give it that. But I'll try some others until I find my favourite, I'd be surprised if it was this one, ...sorry guys!

Nearly a five! I ordered a takeaway on Friday night for me and the boyff.We had chicken tikka balti, fish Jalpiaza, special fried rice, vegetable fried rice, Bombay Aloo, with chapatis and poppadoms.It did take an hour for it to be delivered, (although it did state that was the waiting time) and was delivered by a very polite smiling chap, who wished us a good meal and a top weekend!Anyway, the food was spot on. The chicken tikka was most definitely cooked properly the tikka way and my just chucked in at the last minute. A tad dry but the flavours were delicious. The fish dish was cooked perfectly and the boyff demolished it. Bombay potatoes were so good too. The rices that we ordered could have been enjoyed just on their own. They had some delist flavours going on for a rice!100% going to order here again. Absolutely the best in the area compared to the other we have had in the past six months. Was so so good.

Good service Friendly and Helpful.Diane- lovely King Prawn Puri and a good size large glass of red wine! I asked for King Prawns and Chicken Breast in their special Tia Maria cream sauce but Medium not mild - I got exactly that - delighted! We liked the interesting menu and good service. What could be improved - Decor is a little cold white walls and dark wood furniture? The small print in menu - hard to read.But honestly - we loved the food and will be back.

We were staying at the Noke Hotel about 1/2 mile away from this restaurant and used our gourmet card app which located this restaurant for us excellent food and great service your very lucky if you live near and can use it regularly.

Just Eat complete screw this company over, a decent restaurant given a bad reputation from the host company. Polite customer service however JUST EAT ruined our evening, wouldn't recommend to not use so much maybe direct through the restaurant themselves

Sound food from Rami, have yet to find a better takeaway curry in St. Albans, a bit pricey but worth it.

Delivery came in under 30 minutes and almost 45 minutes before it told me to expect it (after placing order). Food was hot, fresh & really tasty. Tandoori chicken was superb.

No complaints with the food or drink but totally won over with the service and banter. Super friendly service and the meal was worth it just for that !If you're in the area give this place a try.

A large group of us visited on a quiet Sunday night. The owner was very accommodating and fitted all 16 of us in! The place is only very small but it does the job. Delicious curry- I had the Lamb Sag which I would recommend and the Aloo gobi, very tasty. Overall a lovely curry house not far of a walk from our hotel.

We always enjoy take away meals from Rami. The food is fresh and tasty and it depends on a day and time, delivery is good.
