I would give it a higher rating if I could! Honestly brilliant - brilliant food, brilliant staff, brilliant prices! Couldn’t be happier!

Simply fantastic the best indian food I have ever had. Had a great lovely waiter very kind and helpful. Food didn't take long. Great!!

Extremely friendly. Normal prices. Plenty vegan options. Just had to give an additional tip.

Food was extremely delicious. Came out over a great pace and we all had a great time.

The food and also the service by the waitress were really good. Unfortunately the evening ended with a very unpolite behavior of the Restaurant Manager. After one hour, we were told that we can not order more food and drinks. Then he asked us to pay and leave the restaurant in a very unpolite way, as he needed the table for other guests. Never again!

Food was ok, service definitely not: The bill was presented when we hadn't finished yet. We made a reservation for 7 pm (and started earlier to be fair), but were asked to leave at 7:15 pm? ... Hint for the grumpy old man: Just politely ask next time if you would like to give the table away again ... Manners are key for the experience. PS: The rest of the staff (the young ones) were very nice and pleasant.

Unfortunately my first time here and i felt the biriyani i had was a bit bland and did not have enough flavour. Even with the lentil curry, it was still lacking something. But i’m happy with their timely service and enjoyed the poppadoms. Hope you don’t mind, but hopefully this feedback will help you. All the best

Loved the food and service especially from our server, Nima. She was polite and helped us with the menu. We lovedddd the butter chicken and a the garlic and cheese naan. The price was worth according to the food. Loved the place overall. Must go.

We visited Raj recently when on a short break to Grantchester to visit our daughter. We’d been to the restaurant previously and had a nice meal each time and were well looked after by the staff. But on our last visit the chef and front of house team surpassed even their own high standards. Ordering the Kashmir Lamb main course for the first time, that was superb, our compliments to the chef resulted in another portion of Kashmir plus rice and popadom all on the house. I can’t recommend the restaurant and the team enough. If you’ve not been then you simply have to go there. We’ll be back again in June for graduation and another excellent meal and experience. Ok, so the chicken in the curries was too dry, but this place still deserves 5 stars for food as the flavours were amazing. I have been eating and cooking Indian food for over 30 years and am often disappointed by Indian restaurants, but not this one. Everything tasted as it should and then some. The vindaloo was deliciously hot and sour without being overpowering, the ceylon filled your mouth with delicious coconut and subtle spice, the aubergine side dish really tasted of aubergine, the lime and cashew rice delicious and the only problem with the bread basket was I wanted to eat it all!

Mowgli beef was amazing, however the butter chicken was very bland and didn't really have any depth. Same can be said about the tandoori chicken. The lamb chops and kebabs that came in the raja grill was really top notch and so was the masala fries which I would say is a must try.

Worst butter chicken I’ve ever tried, somehow the sauce was basically flavourless, with the small hint of flavour being what I can only describe as brocolli water.

Food was delicious and had wonderful customer service

This is not a review of the restaurant per se, but of the staff and management: On 19 Nov 2023, along with 9 other people, I witnessed A MEMBER OF STAFF ASSAULT A MAN who was drunk (and probably homeless). It seems the man had entered the restaurant, but was on his way out. Staff pushed him very hard making him fall badly. He fell onto another person, but if he hadn't, his head would have hit the edge of the kerb and he would have been SERIOUSLY INJURED. A more senior member of staff defended his colleague, and refused to make a report to the police. (We rang the police, but they wouldn't accept a report from a third party.) I'd call this bad service and a bad atmosphere ‼️

Superb food with a wide range of authentic Indian flavors, but most importantly — above and beyond service from the staff. Me and my wife came here for our wedding anniversary and could not have chosen a better place. Thank you for making our day special. We will recommend to others warmly and will be back soon.

The food was really good. Amazing Indian food and prices are higher than average but totally worth it. The ambience is really nice as well. The staff were very friendly and gave very good suggestions. Will definitely visit more often.

Staff are very nice, food is also great. The curry is very rich in flavour: I enjoy the afghani lamb the most.

Excellent food , great service and family atmosphere

Visited while on holidays to the UK from Australia. The food, hospitality, aesthetics, and intentional care provided by the owner and workers was honestly 11/10 service, it was so lovely to feel taken care of after a long hot day (during the heat wave). Highly highly recommend. Was a lovely experience :)

The staff were absolutely amazing, very tentive and great attitude and help. Unfortunately just for us, the food wasn't to our taste. I think it caters more for the non Asian palette.

The food is very authentic, with plenty of flavour. The menu is somewhat limited compared to "typical" Indian restaurants. That said, there's plenty of variety, so I'm sure everyone will find something. The service was very efficient but not overly friendly or flexible. One dish we wanted came with a certain rice, which we didn't particularly want, so we asked if we could swap it for another and pay any difference. The answer was an emphatic no, we would have to order the rice we wanted as an incremental dish, which we did. Also, on Sundays they offer free poppadoms and chutneys. We had one each, they charged us for them. We mentioned this. They said nothing in response but took the cost off and added a 10% service charge. We were going to leave a tip anyway, so no big deal but hopefully, this gives you a sense of the service and the way customers are treated. Would I go back? For the food, yes, but as an overall experience, doubtful.

Had a lovely meal! Last night we arrived late at night and the team we’re so accommodating to get a table for us. Great food, flavour so fresh and hot. 100% recommend!

Poor quality food, food tasteless, chicken was rock hard & undercooked with pink flesh in between. One of the staffs mannerism was appaling & we had to tell him not to serve us. We ordered boneless chicken but got something else with bone, the curry tasteless the worst I have eaten in my life, don't waste your time going there. There are better places in Cambridge. I know where not to go next time . Dr K.

Worst restaurant ever. I wouldn’t recommend to anyone. We had very bad experience. The manager was so rude when we ordering food. Very poor customer service. Never ever go to this restaurant. We spent £111 for 6 guests which is equal to £18.50 per person. We’ve been to so many restaurants in the UK. This was the first time that we were unwelcome in the restaurant and the manager doesn’t know how to speak to customer politely. Please don’t go.

Worst curry I’ve had in a while. Extremely overpriced, tiny portions, and no better than a basic ready meal. Have never been so upset about a meal out.

Fantastic food, been about 12 months since my last visit, and still one of the best curries I have had.

I had a lovely and affordable meal at this family-owned Indian restaurant in Cambridge, I’d highly recommend going there for dinner due to the friendly staff and nice ambience!

Averagely overpriced food. The vegetable bhaji on our shared platter was very dry and obvious it’s prepared in advance and left on a hot plate / cupboard. The aubergine slice in batter was bland, tasteless. The sag paneer was very bland, not seasoned well, the tandoori roti wasn’t cooked fully and parts were raw. Very disappointed with the food. The chefs and wider team need to improve or this will damage their reputation, 😳

Food quantity is less for a higher price. We had to order paneer and its gravy separately (for the spice), which just sounds absurd. The chickpeas were bland too even after we told them to make it spicy. However, the atmosphere was good and the taste was not too bad.

Had a really tasty meal here, chicken tikka ceylon was delicious and just the right amount of spice for me. Everyone in our group thoroughly enjoyed their meal. The mushroom rice was fluffy and tasty and the garlic naan perfect. If we lived closer this would be a new favourite.

Reading some of the reviews, I'm a bit confused as to whether these are pertaining to the same restaurant or not. My family & I found all the food to be fantastically flavoured. Great choices for all pallettes. Personally, I'd prefer it to be slightly more spicy, but that's not a criticism, it's just my taste. All dishes, including mango lassy drinks were very tasty. Highly recommend a visit to this restaurant and if we lived closer by, it'd become a regular visit.

Great service and wonderful food!

Great atmosphere and service but I got Tikki Masala and it had an entirely different flavor than I’ve ever experienced. It was too sweet and very grainy, so while I appreciated the experience, I didn’t like the food at all.

Unplanned visit turned out very well as we had a quick meal before going for a Saturday night out. The staff was friendly and accommodating to our needs before the closing hour. I look forward to visiting you next time with more time to enjoy your delicious food.

What an awesome find. Came across this by chance and very glad we did. It's got a good food menu and the excellent kingfisher beer is available here too which I love. Food was very innovatively presented and quite tasty. I was impressed by the Thali and highly recommend it. Looking forward to visiting again!

This was our first time dining at Raja, and it will be our last! My partner and I found the courses itself very nice, but unfortunately the meal was ruined by the service we received. After finishing our meal we asked to take the leftovers home (quite common). Bearing in mind this restaurant does also offer a takeaway and delivery service, we were told no, we do not do "doggy bags". The owner argued that he would prefer us to eat his dishes in the restaurant, and that there wasn't enough food left to take home whilst lifting the last nann breads with his fingers. When I responded he walked away whilst I was mid sentence. We were quite honestly shocked! We had noticed earlier that the owner had reprimanded a member of staff in front of us/other customers, due to a miscommunication with our drinks order. He then went behind the bar and aggressively threw 2 beer bottles in the sink. I do not often leave bad reviews, but I have never come across such a bad attitude as a customer in the hospitality industry.

Absolutely 10|10 We were visiting from London and was not disappointed. The food was outstanding, the setting was perfect. The staff were fantastic, so helpful and lovey to chat with. You can’t visit Cambridge and not come here for a meal. Please go and visit a fantastic family run restaurant. I wish this was in my local town

It is a nice family business. The food was very nice. The owner of the place looked after us well. The beef was very delicious.

Good service, friendly atmosphere, good food, reasonable price, open late, assisted me when I left my wallet in there, interesting beer, put up with 5 middle aged men shouting at each other. Decent.

Top Cambridge curry, though portion size a little small by some comparison. Certainly the lamb dish was quite sparse? Having said that, staff team very attentive and gave a great service.

Odd experience at the Raja this evening. Was enticed by the good looking menu and the comfy interior. But sadly the manager comes across as angry & deluded. So desperate to take your order and then move you on- but the restaurant was only half full and it was only 7pm?!

Poppadoms and pickles good. Lovely beef and black lentil curry, excellent! Naans OK as was my Prawn Puri. No sweets, which was a shame. Noise level significant on a Wednesday evening at 1900. Service friendly and pretty laid back! We look forward to returning!

An average Indian dinner. Had last week Roganjosh but won't recommend to anyone.

While the food was very flavoursome and hot the restaurant itself was cold, it was a cold evening outside (-2) the restaurant itself had no heating other than in the toilet and a front door which kept blowing open in the breeze, the only way to really enjoy the meal was to sit wearing out coats.

I visited Raja on New Years eve, was very please with the service, the food was excellent, the only advise I would give is that the madras is too hot. I will revist the restaurant again but order something mild, overall a great place to eat and to enjoy the atmosphere and deco of the indian railway .

Dined here on boxing day with friends for the first time and so glad we did. The food was great, packed full of flavours and presented beautifully. It was matched by the warm and friendly service. Everything was spot on!

Wonderful authentic dishes with fantastic and distinctive flavours. Nice presentation in a comfortable and nostalgic setting. The service was also phenomenal by lovely staff. Highly recommend the Shere Khan Chicken and the Mowgli Beef.

A fantastic curry house. Very friendly greeting me by name after booking by phone at late notice. Delicious and good sized portions. Free water with the meal. Meal for 4 @£70 seems great value to me👍 Highly recommended ✅

This is my favorite traditional Indian/Bangladeshi restaurant in Cambridge. It has amazing ambience and the staff are so sweet. The Black Daal and Sag Paneer are some of the best I’ve ever had! Can’t recommend it enough ~

I am literally still sitting here! Amazing food and EXCELLENT service. In love with the aubergine and paneer side dishes and really recommend the thali (mixed platter and delicious). Popadoms super tasty! I cannot say it enough, the staff is incredibly friendly nd attentive- excellent service. The owner is very passionate about the place, and you can tell but how good the experience is. Can’t wait to visit Cambridge again and have dinner at Raja!

Beautifully crafted curry here, wonderful spices, careful but not fussy presentation, inventive menu including all the classics ..... ticks every box and more. Great decor, lovely family running the place and friendly owner. Perfect for our 10th anniversary. Can't wait for our next visit!

The food is absolutely delicious here. I have been multiple time, it has always been fantastic. The atmosphere is beautiful, the service was great too. The prices aren't too high, and are definitely worth it.

The flavours are washed out, and the tandoori items are obviously cooked in a normal oven / grill and not a tandoor oven, a very disappointing lack of char on those. The gravy items fare better, maybe go with those. 1. samosa chaat - 6/10 2. meat platter - 5/10 (taste is for British, not Indian) (very mild, the coriander chutney is flat, the chicken they give is a pretty unimpressive breast piece) 3. afghani lamb - 8/10 mild but flavourful and cooked well, a star 4. garlic naan - 9/10, solid 5. tandoori chicken - 5/10 (absolutely no char, definitely not cooked in an actual tandoor oven)

Nice people and delicious food!

We went in at 5pm just as they were opening, the place looked lovely. Service was good and food was tasty. However, I have never seen such a revolting restroom in a restaurant before. The toilet was filthy and there was stale sticky urine all over the floor. The sink was yellow at the back like it hadn't been cleaned all week. Such a shame because I had really enjoyed the experience up until then but this just made me feel sick.
