Raj Tandoori in Welwyn Hatfield

We visited yesterday for dinner and I ordered the lamb Balti bhuna with mushroom rice and I think it was the best curry that I have ever had. The flavours were amazing, the naan was so fluffy and the portion size was perfect. The staff were so friendly and attentive, we will definitely be back soon. Highly recommend.

Terrible curry, please do not waste your time or money, how people can say it’s the “ best curry” in other reviews I will never know, Try another restaurant or have a Tesco curry instead, it will taste better.

Lovely service, food lacked a lot of flavour compared to another local. Chicken was really dry. Best thing about the meal was the naan bread. Really gutted, as staff and restaurant were super.

Best ever chicken balti dansak, so delicious. Generous portion to takeaway and lots of free poppadums.

This restaurant is small in size but big in everything else. Very friendly attentive service, an extensive menu (so many good things make it hard to choose though!), delicious food spiced according to your taste, and very reasonable prices. And you can park right outside. Most highly recommended.

Worst Indian food I have ever eaten , beer was flat service was terrible , food under cooked and apparently you fry frozen peas ???? will never go back, we were gutted that we couldn’t get booked into Methi over the road

We booked a table for 8 people which wasn’t even ready when we arrived, the service was very poor, beer was flat and some of the food was inedible, frozen solid cheese cake for desert! Never going again!!!

A very local restaurant that makes you feel @ home when you visit. Friendly service, good food, BUT great onion bhajis!

Service is not the fastest so we were left hungry but that was out own fault for not eating lunch. Food was okay but not piping hot like I like it.

Been run by the same owners ever since I can remember. Has never failed to delight. The dishes are excellent and they will always do something a bit special if you ask them. Have eaten here too many times to remember and never had a bad experience. One of the best Indian restaurants for miles.

What can I say...the service is great and the food is delicous! Highly recommend. Tandoori chicken is one of my favourites!

We should have lodged this review years ago. An outstanding Indian restaurant, delicious food, excellent service. Very friendly staff and catering for any special requests. We cannot recommend the Raj more highly.

Love curry and this restaurant never fails to deliver quality, value, hospitality. Been visiting for over 20 years and its always been the best in its class. The staff will always prepare a dish to your own personal preference or prepare something different and special with notice.

The food at the Raj is as good as it's ever been. 20 years ago we lived around the corner in Brookmans Park and this was a once a week curry fix. So as soon as we got to England, it had to be our first port of call. The tarka dhal was delicately spiced, my husband's king prawn bhuna was perfectly cooked, but best of all, as we remembered from a long time ago, the naan was out of this world. Light, fluffy. Delicious. We dined early but snooped on a table of 7 who were served as we were leaving. All the food looked (and smelt) mouth wateringly good -the tandoori sizzlers in particular. We will be back next time in this area. Thank you, Shiraj!

Lovely food from the Raj, made so partly from the herbs the staff use when topping the dishes! All is nice, only fault was the temperature - being slightly cold, otherwise a good performance from the staff!

The staff are always welcoming and the food is usually excellent. Occasionally the cooking isn't as nice as normal.

Tres de nosotros para la cena. El servicio es impecable: oportuno sin ningún sentimiento de ser apresurado. Es agradable poder relajarse con una bebida y algunos poppadoms mientras contemplaba el extenso menú. Todos elegimos comidas diferentes, pasé la Jerra pollo que era excelente. Algunos platos compartidos, lo que es perfectamente viable parte como la porción tamaños permiten eso. Ciertamente nadie de hambre. La amabilidad del personal parece estar construido en la tela como es la relación calidad-precio. No comer fuera a menudo, pero es que localmente es difícil pensar en algo mejor.

Venido aquí durante años y años, nunca me ha decepcionado. La comida excelente y el personal era muy agradable, relajado. También tienen comida para llevar genial y las entregas. Fácilmente el mejor de la zona.

My partner and I have been frequenting this restaurant for the best part of 8 years. We always know what we will expect - great and friendly service, tasty food and all at a reasonable price. The family is both family orientated and suitable for friends and couples. I would highly recommend,

We have eaten in previously and used their take away service for a good curry!The service was perfect, ready on time, the price was appropriate and the service great. Importantly the food tasted delicious, and being a take away its worth mentioning the food was well packed, and remained hot.

We have been going to the Raj for about 19 years, when it first opened. The staff are lovely and very helpful and the atmosphere is great. The food is constantly good, and they will make me up a king prawn, egg and potato curry which is yummy. The restaurant is always clean. Great place. We have moved away from Brookmans Park, but we still go back to see the boys.

Good service, good food, delivery within 30 minutes - perfect for a wet Saturday night when nobody wanted to go out! The dishes were all very tasty, hot and exactly what we were looking forward. Pleasant helpful service and very reasonably priced. Delivery guy was great too. Must use again.

Eaten here before earlier in the year while on holiday and returned November 2015.So glad i did as the food here is just delicious and ever so tasty and good value. waiters all nice and helpful. Comfortable seating and good space between tables.

There are a number of Indian restaurants in the area, but this is by far the best. Whether we get a take-away or eat in, we always know we're going to get great tasty food at good prices. I haven't had a bad meal here and the staff are attentive and friendly. It's a nice place to go as a couple, or with friends. I can't speak too highly of this restaurant!

Been here a few times now and each time has been as good as the last! The food is always of excellent quality with good sized portions and lots of meat in the dishes! It is reasonably priced, and there is an excellent selection! The waiters are all very friendly and polite. Overall would thoroughly recommend as a local Indian, for both eating in and take away!

Had a lovely meal here on a Tuesday evening-not to busy due to being midweek but still had diners in. Starters and main courses were just Fab.Very good portions and excellent quality and very tender & Tasty. Waiter was very polite and good service all round. Will revisit for sure.

This was recommended and did not disappoint. The service was friendly, helpful and timely. The food was of excellent quality and offered very good value. The choice was, if anything, excessive and it was tricky to choose.We were there on a Thursday, normally a dead day, but there were lots of obviously regular clients - always a good sign. This was our first visit but is unlikely to be our last. What a nice experience - give it a go.

We have been eating at the Raj for many years and keep returning because the staff are friendly, there is a nice ambience in the restaurant and the quality of the food is consistently good. There is healthy and, in my opinion, equally good competition in the village with The Methi, but both have their own style and we alternate between the two. The Raj is a favourite for customers of all ages and you should probably consider booking if you want to visit on a Friday or Saturday night because it does get busy. Recommended.

Have been dining here for the past 20-something years and always impressed with the food and the service. It's not the cheapest of Indian restaurants in the area, but by far the best value. Even now I live miles away I always try and visit when I can.

We have been coming here as a family for many years and always feel welcome. Food is freshly made and they are always ready to amend the meal to our individual preferences.The takeaways arrive piping hot and freshly cooked.The staff are friendly, polite and efficient. Our last meal was delicious. We are so lucky to have such a good, local restaurant to go to with family and friends.

This is an excellent place to have indian food! We, are family have been coming here for like 10 years. The food is always excellent. The service is always very warm, professional and inviting. They seem to love the age old tradition of serving indian food to british people which has been going on for centuries now. What a place to dine! Very comfortable booths. A full selection of indian main dishes and curries. The mango lassie here is amazing. Although they do not have any traditional indian desserts such as kulfi or bramhi, the restaurant is well equipped for even the seasoned diner of indian dishes. Thank you!

Not the best, not the worst. Fine for your bog-standard korma, tikka,Madras... Anything more and you might want to go somewhere else.

All you could ask for from a village restaurant.. Good great, service good, clean & reasonably priced..

Dropped in on a whim without a reservation early on a Saturday evening and were greated warmly.Waiter immediately engaged with child, chatting away and getting him comfortable and all the staff continued to be really positive and friendly throughout the evening.Service was prompt but not intrusive. Drinks and poppadoms arrived quickly. Food was prepared within a reasonable time and everyone agreed that it was really good quality. Vegetable biryani was pretty perfect, not too greasy/oily, lots of fresh tasting chunky vegetable pieces. Everything tasted freshly prepared, not stored.Just under £40 for 2 adults and a child was very reasonable and I wouldn't hesitate to return.
