Queens Head Pub in Reading

I went with some friends for a chilled early dinner and a drink. We got there around half 5 and we saw a sign that live music started at 8. The man who served us was really nice and took good care of us, his colleague on the other hand was rude and made it an unwelcome atmosphere with the help of the singer. As he put our food down at about half 6 she turned around to him saying we can't eat there because they needed to set up for the live music (it was very important to do it 2 hours early apparently). Her and the other girl, cleared out all the tables and chairs around us leaving us sitting in the middle of the room with nothing around us. My friends and I were all just shocked at the attitude and them staring at us the whole time we were eating which felt very intimidating. I will not be coming again, its a shame because it was a lovely looking pub and could definitely be more popular, maybe if they get some staff better suited to work in customer service.

Had the Sunday roast here today. It was excellent. Lots of gravy, with additional gravel boats, crispy roasties, vege. It really was good value for money. Staff were friendly and attentive. Will definitely be back!

Excellent friendly service from Morgan. Always remember orders with a friendly smile. Food is good and nice atmosphere for an evening with friends.

Use this place regularly however yesterday staff were so rude won't be using again. Staff that were working only one was old enough to take alcohol orders. And sadly due to this we didn't want to stay to eat there so food rating can not be taken into account on this basis.

Another great Sunday night quiz. I do wish they would sort the toilets. Broken taps and seats. They smell terribly.

Ate twice at the queen's head and the food was amazing , staff friendly couldn't fault or recommend this pub enough x

The strength of this pub is its quality service; staff are very professional and accommodating. The food is perfectly good, but far from the best gastropubs. They can bring out some really nice share plates in quick order. The atmosphere is good, but it's not exactly a great charming English pub

Awful customer service took my family of 6 out thinking of a nice evening meal. Absolutely awful customer service received no acknowledgment or interaction of any kind. It felt like we were just dumped on the table. The person who took us to our table not once made sure if we were comfortable, no menu was left. We were sat there for 10 mins no one came to ask if anyone was looking after us or to take any drink order. Never going there again.. absolutely terrible service!!! We left and went elsewhere where we were looked after. The Queenshead on our cosit was not even that busy.

Great pub....as you would expect, only reason I don't give 5 stars is because its not Oxford 😊

Lovely pub that serves some delicious food. Drinks weren't bad either. Service was friendly and very helpful.

Lovely place. Wish I’d found this before! The little beer garden is perfect for a summer chill out and the inside is full of varied spaces. I love it! Not too expensive on the drinks either!!

Delicious food served , excellent service from the bar staff and waitresses and great music played in the background.

Quiz lady had the Mike too close to her mouth so was like listening to a bad radio station. Had to wait over an hour for food

A fabulous pub. Great food struggles with staff at times but always friendly. Let down by the toilets. They’re in need of a refurb. Loose seats and peeling walls. The pub and garden are great tho.

Nipped in on way to the sizzling spice a few doors away. Nice place friendly staff and although we didn't eat the food looked good and quite a few people were eating which is always a good sign. Next time maybe we will sample the fayre 😜 .

Visited here a number of times and normally great food but nacho dish very disappointing….couldn’t find the cheese, nachos overcooked and waited ages for food to come. You can do better Queens Head!

Nice friendly local pub, doesn't have as good of a beer selection as some others.

This is our local pub, it's a nice place to chill and have a few beers. The staff are good, as is the atmosphere. I have found the food to be hit and miss, it depends on what meal you order. As an example I personally find the burgers to be dry, poor in comparison with other places but their lasagna is absolutely delicious!

We had the beer-battered fish & chips yesterday evening. Fish was lovely with crispy batter outside and perfectly cooked fish inside. Chips made from real potatoes - crisp and equally delicious. Nice atmosphere and attentive staff. Highly recommended. We'll be going again!

Lovely traditional pub, only drank so don't know what foods like but nice atmosphere and friendly staff.

Verry much an "old school pub" and it's OK, the food is alright and a fine time was had by us all.

Unwelcoming experience. I called before to visit them to ask if the kitchen was open, until when and if it was possible to have a meal. The reply was affirmative, and so we decided on that pub. As soon as we arrived, the waitress informed us that we'd booked because of the Christmas time and the kitchen may shut any time soon because they were expecting a big table. Anyway, the pub was non-busy, and it remained like that until we left. The baked potatoes were a bit cold, the fish and chips ok. The experience was unwelcoming. The lecture about Christmas times and the necessity to book was unnecessarily redundant.

just had a Xmas lunch for 30 people. Food and service were excellent. We were in the function room in the garden and, given the weather, a little cold when we arrived but it soon warmed up. Food delivered promptly and, even when the party messed up the distribution and the wrong dish was taken by one of our party, the kitchen worked hard to provide a replacement. Altogether excellent.

Rude barmaid locals have priority never again

Have been to Queens Head a couple of times now and decided to book whilst we had family visiting.There was 9 of us. Pre ordered food in advance. Bar Man and the waitress on the day were really welcoming and were really accommodating for children too. Thank you

I think the person who ordered the steak had an ear problem. There is no difference between the steak that was medium rare and well done. The waiter denied it. The waiter's attitude towards Chinese people is extremely bad. Not recommended！

My wife and I dropped in to the QH for a meal before going to the Progress Theatre. We left it late and found the pub buzzing with happy drinkers and diners so asked the staff whether we'd get served in time. They checked with the kitchen and took our order. The food was served in good time and it was excellent, as were our beers. Large portions of extremely well prepared pub food and Timmy Taylor Boltmaster ale at its best. We eat well and left for the theatre full and grateful. The show was really great but must admit that I did become a little sleepy after about an hour.

Was nice place to go. But the fire alarm or smoke alarm kept going off the staff on did not know how to deal with the situation. Not sure if thier where train on what to do if these alarms sounded or thier just forgot it. Due to this and high prices I do not thing I be coming back. Let me know you're expiry? PLEASE THANK YOU

StAff friendly and so accommodating Sunday roast absolutely gorgeous and good value for money. Compliments to the chef was just a fantastic dinner

Disappointed variety of beer on tap (only Hobgoblin Ruby available) but the food was good and reasonable.

Good atmosphere staff friendly and food very good. I enjoyed my fish and chips and would definitely order again. I got a discount as staying at the nearby sure hotel. The weather was good so we sat outside in the courtyard area. Looks like they offer bbqs in the summer would go back and try again.

I was over for a weekend and found this place very close to where I was staying. I took my daughter for dinner and we had a beautiful meal and a few drinks. It is a clean, well decorated place with a very friendly atmosphere. My daughter is vegetarian and was impressed by the menu. I would definitely recommend a visit.

Great pub, more like a lounge/bistro.. a nice atmosphere and homely bibes inside, friendly staff really put themselves out, great drinks/food and prices, .. altogether great service

Never in my life had I left a place because the food never arrived. We waited for an hour and a half. Disgraceful.

Very nice, modern pub with a wonderfully made outdoor area, funky the mojito was good.

Ordered 3 x fish and chips. Got 3 x extremely burnt and dry pieces of fish. Said it to the waitress that the fish was very very poor but don't feel like it was addressed at all. Bar is lovely and great for a drink but the food was really poor on this occasion.

Warm welcome, Good range of beers, wine and soft drinks. Plessant atmosphere. Plenty of choice for meals.

Had the worst experience. They forgot our food. Waited 2 hours, a waitress asked if we had eaten yet we said no (sat there quietly waiting) to be told kitchen was closed. No refund was offered at that point when I went to speak the duty manager’ he was so rude and even called police on me! The police were on my side! Disgusting.

Fabulous food and friendly staff. A good selection of alcohol free cider although they had run out on our second visit. You get a discount on the food if you’re staying at the nearby Best Western.

We witnessed first hand that you had a Stroppy Manager who was antagonistic and inflammatory in dealing with a customer. Terrible customer service. Toilets stank, food good though.

Lovely place, food is amazing. They serve British and a few Thai dishes.

Friendly and helpful bar staff. Visited with my daughter and grandson for drinks. Enjoyed sitting in the garden seating area at the rear.

Best fish and chips. Relaxed during the day and lovely ambience. Nice cute spot to go on a little date with your partner or even just to chill over drinks.

We often meet up with some friends here for lunch. It's comfortable, and the food is always good. Also a good choice of draught ales (and lagers, if you prefer). It also has a nice beer garden for when the weather gets better!

Nice enough pub. Not my local, just popped in for a beer whilst out for a walk. The bar person was pleasant enough. Like most pubs at the moment, it was pretty empty. If you have a car, parking is available if you know were to look.

Good selection of beer and pleasant staff. I had food there a year ago and wasn't very impressed and the service was ludicrously slow but it seems to be a completely new team of staff there now so no complaints.

A lovely pub with nice decor, really yummy food and nice waitresses - you may be wondering why my review has scored low - the manager is the rudest person I have met in my life, shouting at staff while at the bar with lots of people watching on, rude to customers again loudly and in front of people, seems he deals very badly under pressure and quite clearly shouldnt be a manager Would I go back... in short no!

What a Fantastic pub.A friend and I popped in here yesterday for the first time. Its a Lovely old pub full of Charector.We both decided to have the Roast beef and it was Absolutely delicious.The Staff are very friendly and welcoming.Its Very clean and offers a large selection of drinks.We will be back in the near future.

Recently had my lunchtime birthday bash at the Queens Head, food was fantastic and staff were really great and made us all feel very welcome. Good time was had by all and everyone loved the food and the service. Queens Head is a real little diamond, would recommend to anyone looking to have nice meal in very nice surroundings.

Ate here two nights on the trot as the hotel we were staying at wasnt offering decent evening meals. Can honestly say the food was reasonably priced and delicious. Staff very friendly made very welcome . We even took part in the quiz the first evening will certainly be back .Thank you

Visited at towards the end of lockdown when it was table service only, friendly staff showed us to a table in the garden where the Euro's were on but at a low volume so everyone could still enjoy their conversations. Orders and drinks were quickly handled so no long waits for your drinks. Will pop back next time I'm around that area.

NO customer service. Don’t bother with this place. Had booked, walked in - no greeting, no explanation about ordering, then were told to sit anywhere. After many minutes I went to bar & drinks order was taken. Menu was very boring & we’d decided to drink our drinks & go. Then waitress comes to table to take drinks order. I explained we’d ordered & were told it had been forgotten. At that point we walked out. Will not be returning
