Queens Head Hotel Restaurant in Northumberland

On holiday in the area and was looking for somewhere nice to have lunch, so glad we stumbled across the Queens Head! Food was fantastic, one of the best lasagne’s I have ever tasted. Service was amazing and our waitress could not have been more helpful and friendly. Excellent value for money, highly recommend and will definitely be back.

Called in on speck having seen their blackboard early bird offer although we hadn't booked luckily got a table my husband had a starter (I prefer a dessert) which was sweet potato and pumpkin it was absolutely delicious yes I had to try it! For main I had my ultimate favourite a lasagne my birthday favourite meal,, omg it was gorgeous, my husband had Eyemouth haddock which was excellent, next I choose a chocolate cake/vanilla ice cream dessert and although my husband wasn't going to have dessert he couldn't resit and asked for their sticky toffee pudding which wasn't on the eatlybird offer but we were told that he could go off deal Hahaha!! our waitress had picked up on our conversation that it was my birthday and brought my dessert with a little candle and a small bag of birthday chocolates both desserts were of the very best quality we were both blown away by not only the excellent meals but the amazing service from the lovely Jordan who went out of her way to make my birthday so memorable thankyouuuuuuu so much and we'll definitely be returning

We had a quick pit stop at the Queens on the Berwick leg of our coastal walk. The food was just what we wanted. Tasty minted pea soup and sandwiches washed down with shandies! The staff were super efficient and friendly. Cheese savoury sandwich was just the ticket! Thank you.

Wonderful traditional hotel. The food was exceptional, locally sourced and beautifully cooked. Prices were realistic, considering the quality of produce and service. The staff were lovely, welcoming and friendly and we will definitely return.

Fab little very doggy and family friendly pub / restaurant. Good 'proper' pub grub and extremely thoughtful service. We had treats for the dog and sweets for the boy. Can't fault it.

I seemed to get off on the wrong foot totally with the staff who were sat at the table at the top of some stairs, because I disturbed them. Eventually a sour looking woman with a face like thunder came to ask what I wanted. I asked if they were serving light lunch / bar snacks. She muttered something under her breath, and I was unsure whether of not they were serving, but then she followed that up with , " and its cash only ".....and with that she flounced off back upstairs to her waiting colleagues. I assumed they WERE serving food but decided with that attitude they were NOT going to get our custom. Rude and off putting. obviously we didn't eat there, preferring instead to find somewhere a little more hospitable.

Absolutely first class and friendly service. Very cosy setting. We went in for coffee and cake, very reasonable prices. The service was second to none and even made teapots of hot chocolate for my children.

We have just returned home from a wonderful weekend in Berwick and we stayed in Queens head Hotel..what a find ...beautiful Hotel, it is Immaculate Inside and out . Our twin room was great very well decorated and functional , the beds were so comfortable and Bathroom/ Shower was great. We had Dinner Bed & Breakfast for 2 nights and the Food was exceptional.....The breakfast was lovley and cooked to perfection and if course the Hotel staff were so helpful and pleasant ....cannot recommend this lovley hotel enough....we would not stay anywhere else when we return to lovley Berwick..thank you for making our weekend just perfect Tommy & Kathy

Absolutely appalling! But I partly blame our stupidity for not seeing the warning signs and continuing to order at this ‘restaurant’, when everything pointed towards it being a poor experience. Even the lady at the (gorgeous) B&B we were staying at was sending us warning signals. When asked if we had booked somewhere to eat, she looked surprised when we said the Queens Head’ and politely said, ‘well the good thing about the Queens Head is that if there is nothing you like on the menu, they will always rustle you up some sausage and chips’. (Warning sign 1!) We had booked a table here during our short stay in Berwick, based on the website promise of ‘quality’ food and a fine dining experience. When we arrived the waitress did not seem interested, was surprised we had a booking and never even asked our name! She then pointed to the (only) table for 2 in the room, with a chair almost sat on top of a huge fire hydrant and said ‘will that do?’ (warning sign 2!) We should have taken the opportunity at this point to run, but stupidly stayed. The table we sat at had a small laminated piece of paper with photos of ‘sharing nibble plates’ for £2.50 slotted between the salt and pepper pot and immediately screamed ‘cheap food’ and the rest of the menu too should have been a red flag as the daytime snacks at the front, was mostly dirty fries and nachos. ( warning sign 3!) The waitress knowledge of the menu was non-existent and unhelpful when asking questions. When checking what style of the chicken curry was, ( eg mild, hot, jalfrezi, korma?) we were told ‘it’s just chicken!’ And when asking was there any side dishes served with the chicken breast, we were told ‘vegetables’. ‘what vegetables?’ we asked and were abruptly told with a confused shrug, ‘ they are just vegetables!’ (Warning sign 4!) The carrot and coriander soup was probably the best dish we ordered, but the Salmon and Dill Fish cake starter that arrived was an obviously cheap frozen fish cake, deep fried within an inch of its life and had a grey[?] fish less middle! The Vegetable Curry was bland and served so hot it was almost boiling on the plate and a side stack of dried up white rice. The Chicken Breast was cooked ok, but was served on potato stacks that were slightly raw. Most of the food served screamed ‘reheated’. To twist the knife of injustice, this place charges astronomical prices. £10.95 for the cheap fish cake starter! £23.95 for the chicken and £17.95 for the curry were outrageous for such awful quality food. We did not stay for dessert. Our bill came to nearly £70 for 2 courses and 2 drinks and that was the biggest insult. Not one waitress checked if any of our food courses were ok (and on me leaving half of the main course untouched), abruptly said, ‘have you finished’ ? and took our plates. Don’t believe the website boasting a top quality experience and give this place a wide berth.

Two of the three starters were very good. The third was Scallops which were way over cooked. Three main courses were very poor. The seafood stew was far too salty. The crab had never seen a crab. No idea what it was made of. There was no Haddock. It was basically over seasoned fake crab with small prawns and a few mussels. The two lemon sole fillets came wrapped in asparagus which was clearly too old. One sole fillet was way over cooked and rubbery. The second was mush. Both were thistles. The red cabbage had taken on a pale blue colour and was not fit for purpose. The waitress was friendly and helpful but not very professional in their approach.

The place looked great, menu looked good but the waitress was clearly prejudiced about our family. The restaurant was less than half full and we were told it was fully booked that night. We walked past again an hour later to see it even emptier. Having read other recent reviews it’s clearly this one waitress. Shame as the place could be losing money in an already tough economic climate.

I am very disappointed to be rating the restaurant so low, because the food is actually very good and the prices reasonable for such a fantastic meal, however the service of the waitress was just AWFUL. She was deeply prejudiced towards our family (perhaps not liking our southern accents), and made what should have been a lovely experience sour and distasteful. The person in mention will undoubtedly know who she is - I am very upset that my family left a generous tip for her after being treated so poorly , so I hope it is distributed amongst the other members of the team who were far friendlier. How a person like that works in the hospitality segment in 2023 , I have no idea. Shame .

We were made so welcome at this lovely restaurant. The service was without fault. The food, just delicious - wonderful local fish and a homemade lasagne. As for the chocolate pudding…just amazing. Thank you TripAdviser - yet another great find.

Having had coffee/hot chocolate and cake earlier in the day (ladies were lovely and chatty) we decided to head back for dinner to be told not taking anyone else. Very disappointed as there were plenty of tables available.
