Quay Taphouse in North Tyneside

Honestly one of the best Sunday lunches I've had in a long time. Good portions of chicken and beef, all perfectly cooked as well as the vegetables. Lovely atmosphere and helpful staff. Only thing I'd say is they need to have custard as an option in they're desert menu as well as ice cream. 👍🏻

We live in Tynemouth but have really struggled to find decent food in the village so we decided to wander down to the Quay Taphouse on the Fish Quay. What a great decision that turned out to be. We ordered Salt & Pepper Calamari, Spanish Platter, Mussels, Nashville Chicken Tenders, Garlic Mushrooms on Toast and chunky chips. All of the dishes were pretty decent portion sizes (the chip portion was huge) and the taste and quality of the food was fantastic. We loved them all. We will definitely be going back.

My husband and myself went for Sunday Lunch yesterday and have to say it was absolutely lovely they ran out of roast beef so we opted for the Lamb so tasty and the veg was amazing this was our third meal since lockdown and it won’t be our last, the staff are also lovely and friendly see you soon

We had our wedding here at the quay taphouse on the 26th of august 2023 and was honestly one of the best days ever. The staff were absolutely amazing and helped the day to run so smoothly. The barman who was working upstairs for us was so friendly and everyone said how lovely he was! Thank you to the manager for helping so much too! The food was absolutely amazing and came out with absolutely no faults at all! Can’t wait to visit again! Thank you so much x

We went in daytime, only a few in but it was definitely worth a visit. Staff were lovely, food was nice.

Came here with my mam & friend. We all had Sunday lunch & it was beautiful. Staff were friendly. I came back a couple of weeks later with my friends just for a few drinks when the tennis was on & had a great afternoon then too.

Great little bar. Didn’t plan on eating dinner but ended up having Tapas which was lovely. Everything was tasty. And staff where super friendly.

A great little bar down on the Fish Quay, very friendly staff and serving a good selection of drinks. Didn't have any food but what I saw other people eating looked very nice.

Sehr freundliches und aufmerksames Personal. Wir hatten verschiedene Tapas und waren sehr zufrieden. Hat alles sehr gut geschmeck und es gab leckeres Ale dazu.

Certainly picked up since i was there last. Food better and better service, pity the staff looked liked they slept in what ever they were wearing. Have a touch of class and give them matching shirts. Hoodies, cycle shorts and fleeces just doesnt cut it.

Our first visit since the new chef took over. Tapas was mediocre, the crab was excellent, other dishes not so much. Chicken burgers were overcooked with breadcrumbs bordering on being burnt. We didn’t rate the experience, plenty of better options nearby.

Deal includes a bottle of wine. However as a non drinker, non alcoholic beverage is not part of the deal. Penalised for not drinking. Service could be friendlier and more attentive. Unfortunately, I won't be going back.

The food is sooooo good here and the service is excellent, always friendly even when the place is very busy. The food, well......! I'm not saying any more as it will get that busy we won't get in🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Went for lunch for the 2nd time today and selected the chicken & veg pie with chips. Waited for around half hour for the food. This time around the experience was different , the pie was minced up chicken which was dry with a very hard crust disc on top. Chips were fine , a fraction of gravy in the gravy boat. Also Guinness is not on draft and only the can option. So had a diet drink. Cost £16. Should have went to greggs , sorry will not be back left full meal on the table.

Tea time with a friend, St Patrick's. 3 tapas and bottle of wine before 6pm only £24.95 as a special. Staff very helpfull food excellent...very busy when we were there 5.30 until 7pm.

Average bar service, unfortunately, my rare beef salad was so overpowered by the pickled cabbage, I couldn't taste the salsa verde, even the chilli, I wouldn't have to write this review, but when I explained this to the lady serving us, she said it's a personal preference that's that. I would think on a customer service level she would at least say thanks for your feedback and I will let the chef know. would have been polite and I was listened to, for the critique of my dining experience. I don't think the staff care to much about what comes out on service and are more interested in chatting to the boys at the bar, my table was from around 3 pm to 5 pm on Saturday 4th Feb 23, I don't think I will be returning. The runner buss boy was very good and he listened more than the girl staff chatting at the bar.

A great place to come for food or drink. It is well situated on the fish Quay Close to other pubs and also close tocthe beach to go for a walk after too. An excellent choice of drink with nice local ales, as well as freshly caught meals

The tapas is great, as good as ever if not even better... however the Sunday lunches have gone down hill lately. Flat Yorkshires (they used to be AMAZING!! Best in North Shields by far) and the gravy tastes straight out of the packet. Waitress told me it's not, but I'd have to disagree. The meat is always cooked well, but 'skin left on' roast potatoes are a big thumbs down from me I'm afraid. Mash good, smooth and buttery... greens are pretty good, cooked to the bite. Service is always fabulous! Especially Becca! Just please, get those Sunday lunches back on track!

Dropped in thinking it would be a a bar/pub, it’s actually more of a tapas restaurant but with a decent selection of drinks Service was ok, tables were reserved for food but you can grab a stool around the bar Gets busy

Just came in for a snack and glass of wine, the battered haddock was top notch, perfectly cooked and very fresh including the salad garnish. Great service and a nice atmosphere, I would recommend a visit here.

Delicious food, great new menu, child friendly. Staff could not be more helpful. At one point my young son was unsettled and within seconds a waitress arrived with colouring paper and crayons without having been asked. The food and service were brilliant in equal measure. An asset to the Fish Quay. Thank you!

Disappointed to find the menu has changed...not for the better... What we had was good....but it's more just like any other Pub Menu now. Empty tables reflected this.

Checked the bill and was overcharged £2.95. Staff claimed it was a special discount ? No! It was an extra charge. So ....check your bills carefully. Got a refund , but disappointing and spoils a day out !

Went for lunch today and the food was fantastic! I had the surf and turf frites which were amazing and a huge portion. My mam had the teriyaki salmon which again was lovely but very spicy so not for the faint hearted.

Went here as I had been for a beer before but no food and it looked good today had food and it was decent enough , good drink selection. Nice staff

Visited this place in February and loved it. Food,staff,atmosphere were all great. We were looking forward to going back. Sadly it was really disappointing. Despite being told the menu hadn’t changed, there was only one item on the menu which we had ordered previously. The portion size was small and everything was lukewarm. We had difficulty finishing everything the first time and left hungry on the second visit .The first picture shows food on the first visit (we paid extra for onion rings). The second picture is our second visit. Same price.No comparison. Won’t be back.

Used to drink here before between 2005-18 and now that I've come back to Newcastle this year I couldn't wait to visit the place and nothing has changed,great service and great food so it's a 5 stars from me.

Excellent eating experience. Great beers and very good food. We went as a group and pretty much tried most things on the tapas menu, they were all delicious so just choose some you like the look of and you won't be disappointed. I would suggest about 5 tapas per couple, more if you are really hungry. Surprisingly light on the stomach too, left feeling full, not bloated. We will be back!

Called in for lunch whilst visiting the area, friendly welcome plus a bowl of water for the dog quickly brought to the table. Good choice of food and drinks (Craft beer was excellent)! Best Rump steak sandwich ever! Tapas were excellent, portion size was good...

After living in Spain for many years i missed my tapas when i returned to uk...attended a 50th birthday here wed 6th April and it was fantastic. The surroundings were lovely the staff exellent and hard working and the tapas😱was like being home in Mallorca again FANTASTIC.

Really good atmosphere and good for food. Outside area good, which is across the road. But when it's sunny and busy the wait for food was over an hour. Apart from that well worth a visit.

Been here today for Sunday lunch, £13.95 for lamb dinner, gravy so thin you could see through it, not very hot, expensive for what it is. However cheese cake and ice cream to die for.

What can I say . We have been going to the Quay tap for a good few weeks and watched food going to the tables around us . Whilst we drank others clearly enjoyed sumptuous food so yesterday we decided to take the plunge and...

Walked out! Waited in a que at the bar got to the front then ignored by the bar staff not once.....not twice.....but three times! Even picked up a glass near where I was standing and didn't even ask if I was being served!

Oh how the standards gave changed from when this place first opened ,I remember going and having the potted crab ,it was beautiful but went the other day ,what a miserable portion greeted me talk about the difference I should have taken a photo the first time and compared it with this time ,if I was the chef I would have been embarrassed turning out the coleslaw it came out in what I could only describe a a little bit bigger than a Thimble , 2 forks and it was empty ,ant the crab ,1st time came in a nice sized pot with the clarified butter on top this time the pot was half the size and looked as if it was bought at morrisons 2 slices of that's no butter what a let down will definately not be helping him get rich on me very disappointed, COME ON QUAY TAP STEP UP AND PUT IT BACK TO HOW IT WAS money for nothing very poor value for money

Attended a wedding reception here over the weekend, While the food was lovely there was no where near enough for all the guests, I assumed there would be 2 servings of the food which was put out given how much was there. It was brought...

Attended a private function in the upstairs room. We had to wait 20 mins downstairs in bar and passage until they got the room ready although it had been booked for weeks. When we finally got upstairs it took an hour to get everyone seated - not enough seats and tables for 40 people and really not enough room. Food finally came served on two small tables - nowhere near enough for 40 people - several people got nothing. When we complained they eventually brought out a bowl of chips and some deep fried haloumi - not acceptable so still got nothing. Very loud talking and noise from kitchen area during speeches which was disgraceful. Would not recommend this place for a function as they didn't seem to have a clue about seating/catering for a large party.

I attended a wedding here at the weekend. They were very poorly organised. There were not enough seats for all the guests to sit for a meal. My kids and I were plonked away from the rest of the wedding party on a lone table. This was moved to join to rest of the party after I had to request. The father of the bride was trying to give his speech whilst the staff (I assume in the kitchen /through an open doorway) kept talking and laughing at such a volume that guests were unable to hear the speeches. Staff were politely asked to lower the volume, but they didn’t do so. The catering was extremely poor. Many of the guests went without food as The Tap House had drastically under catered for the event, even though they were given the correct number of attendees. On a plus side, the bar staff were very friendly and helpful. I would not recommend this venue for events.

Lovely food drink and service. Rebecca even helped me prize my tiny bracelet charm from a tiny gap under the sink. She totally didn't need to help me get it, but understood it was sentimental and did all she could to help.
