Purple Mango in Milton Keynes

Unbelievable treatment from the staff and management; visited this place on a Sunday afternoon with friends to unwind but unfortunately our time was ruined by the management behavior and attitude..they forced us to order mains even though we wanted few drinks and snacks! Please be mindful, as they just want to put their hands on your wallet but not interested in providing hospitality..shame on them!

I have never had a more infuriating experience in a restaurant than the one I had at this restaurant today. Staff lack basic manners. 6 of us went in for a few drinks / nibbles and half way through our drinks, we were admonished by one of the staff who very rudely said that we had to order some mains from the menu and that we couldn't just be sitting there ordering more drinks / nibbles. Restaurant staff directing and mandating customers to order food from the menu is a first for me. Disgusting and insulting behaviour towards customers by staff.

We tried this place for the first time, as we needed somewhere close to the Stables Theatre. We discovered that it was banquet night, and it was very popular, so we were pleased we had booked. The prawn puri starter was excellent, the chicken dhansak was lovely, and the jalfresi was good and spicy. There was plenty of food, and we will be back.

I have been going to this place for 16 years plus on and off. Never left a review for here but should every time I go. Amazing tasty food every-time and compliments to the chef. Best Indian in MK and consistent. Not sure on the bad reviews on here as the guys that work there could not do enough for you, all you have to do is ask and they will fulfil your request. Top marks to all at Purple Mango keep up the good work 👍🏼

Fairly standard restaurant of this type, with the usual dishes on an over-long menu. Decent vegetable samosas to start. Lamb passanda main course consisted of indifferent quality lamb smothered in an unexciting sauce. Quite the least well-made naan I have ever eaten. On a Bank Holiday Saturday the restaurant was fairly busy but by no means full. Service was extremely slow; it was difficult to persuade waiters to take our order at all. We waited over an hour for any food.

This is the best food in Milton Keynes, and I would struggle to find better anywhere. Incredible food. On menu or off menu, the food is hot, flavoursome, well portioned, and we were pleasantly surprised with the price. Another masterpiece from our wonderful friends at the Purple Mango.

We come up to Milton Keyenes once a year and normally end up in here on the Sunday night.Always nice it never disappoints,good food at a decent price.

First time visiting with friends. Gorgeous food. Dansak on point with a great kick to it. Staff were so great. Always checking in and going above general service. Would highly recommend. Great vibe on a Saturday night. Thank you for a brilliant meal and service.

Whilst visiting somewhere locally, we googled somewhere to go for a curry and this place came up. The staff were fantastic. They were so kind and nothing was too much trouble. Everyone was smiley and went out of their way to make everything perfect. We ordered from the set menu which was fantastic value! The food was piping hot and tasted amazing!

We are long term customers of the Purple Mango having sampled several other Indian food takeaways in MK. This is our favourite because the service is very friendly and your order is ready to collect on arrival. As important is that each family member has a favourite Mango dish and the dishes are delicious every time. The traditional favourites are sure bets for selection, there’s a wide range of starters and side dishes and the specials are always lovely. The meat is tender and has great flavour, whether you prefer lamb or chicken, and the prawn or fish options are also very tasty. Wish we could find a Chinese takeaway as good and reliable as this is for Indian food.

If there ever was a place where there was more "show over substance" then this is the place. The warm inviting ambience of the place draws you in with the modern decor and the fancy water wall. You would imagine great tasting Indian food, with spice and flavours of India... Sadly this wasn't the case. If the decor had to match the food, then it should have been PLAIN WHITE WALLS. The food was TASTELESS, lacked and spice or seasoning. We ordered the Passanda which was simply Cream with Red Wine added at the end which just gave the dish a winey acrid taste. All the other meat based dishes some of which are the most basic classic indian dishes simply tasted of unseasoned dry meat in the same tasteless sauce - AWFUL. The chickpea and spinach dish had not a single leaf of spinach, no spice or flavour (but thats to be expected) A tin of chickpeas and a shop bought curry sauce tipped over it would make it award winning compared to the abomination I was served. All in all no flavour, no spice, no seasoning. The only thing I enjoyed were the poppadums and if I could eat the decor I would as it would have been tastier...

Really nice food. We visited on a banquet night and was very impressed with the value and quality of food. The staff were very helpful and polite. There is loads of free parking too. Will visit again

Worst Indian meal ever! Started off well poppadoms lovely, onions Bhakti wonderful. That’s as far as it went mains totally tasteless (chicken passanda) they must have missed out any spices had to eat it along with onion chutney to gain any favour. Hubby had a very tasteless side dish with chickpeas. My only explanation was that the chef was off duty that evening, as this place was highly recommended to me!

I can’t comment on the food but I can confirm that the customer service is really excellent at this restaurant. Unfortunately I made the stupid mistake of ordering a large takeaway from this restaurant before realizing much too late it was the wrong restaurant some 30 miles away! I called the restaurant and despite the enormous inconvenience they were so understanding and said that these things happen. If I ever am in the area I will order!

This unassuming modest restaurant on the local centre of Walnut Tree has a lovely atmosphere is relaxed and friendly. The staff very friendly and attentive. Awesome tasty food left no room for dessert. But dessert wasn’t the reason we were there! Very generous filling delicious portions. The staff chatty and do not hurry you. After asking for Bill was even offered a brandy/whisky on the house. Was very pleasantly surprised by the bill which for 2 of us including a few drinks was £43 not bad for a Sat eve. Strongly recommended

Great food, great service and great atmosphere. Best onion Bajis you will find in this country!!!You can eat in or order to pick up and take away. Crying shame they don’t do a take away service but we love sitting in the restraunt to eat

We went early at 6.30 - it was full by 7.00 - booking highly recommended. The food was first rate and quick friendly service - all staff with masks at all times. not our first visit and certainly not our last

First off the service was terrible. Secondly menu also has too many items, which resulted in poor recommendations for food. Food I personally had was not great but there are better options on the menu. Overall experience probably won’t ever go back.

The food is delicious & the service is great, if you haven’t tried it yet I recommend you do soon I personally recommend the madras & the chicken tikka masala both are excellent

With my work colleagues we wanted to try something new for my birthday so we went to Purple Mango... because was Sunday we have had a choice from a banquet feast ... the food was lovely we had the chance to try amazing Indian dishes.. the portions were so big and the staff was so lovely

Great food and impressive service. The young gentleman who I believe is the owner remembers people by name. Always pleasantly greeted and they are happy to provide special options for special occasions. The cost is reasonable. Try it out, you won't be disappointed.

We came here for Christmas Day 2019 as we fancied doing something totally different. From start to finish, we couldn't fault anything. The service was fantastic, very attentive waiters. The food as usual was delicious. It was fantastic value for money especially given the day that it was. We didn't feel rushed. If they are to open again on Christmas Day, then I would highly recommend it. We'd definitely come here again for Christmas Day lunch if they did open.

Went here on Tuesday evening whilst away on business. Wasn’t busy but went fairly early and this means the service was good. Only had a main of lamb chilli tikka, pilau rice and a garlic & chilli naan. The food was excellent - I like a hot meal and this hit the spot - just right and very tasty. I would definitely return if in the locality again.

The service was very good, the waiter being really patient, friendly and helpful. We was asked if everything is ok and if we're enjoying the food. The food is amazing and they're really helpful when it comes to recommending or helping you decide.

A group of 4 of us visited between Xmas and new year (1 local, 3 of us driving from Sussex!). The restaurant was clean and pleasant, well lit and very smart in appearance. We placed our orders, which took a fair amount of time to arrive, only for one of the dishes to be incorrect (possibly mis-heard as it was quite loud in there). When the dish did arrive it was of a decent quality and my friends also considered their food to be of a similar standard. We were offered an extra naan for the mistake, which we refused as we already had a naan bread each. Despite saying that we didn't wish to receive this (knowing that it would not be eaten and therefore would be wasted) we were still given it!?!? Suffice to say it went untouched. We were asked if we wished to look at the desert menu but were given maybe a minute at most to make a decision as to whether we wished to have a desert, and felt extremely pressured. Having decided that actually we would rather have coffee we were informed that there was none (with the possible exception of instant given that a friend remarked that as he couldn't have an espresso was it Nescafe, and the waiter looked rather sheepish). When we paid the bill the change was not returned to us in order for us to decide whether or not we wished to leave a tip, it was just assumed that we had overpaid by just short of £10 as a tip! Assumption should not be made!Summing up, the food was of a good standard (but not outstanding) but the service left a lot to be desired and the chances of us returning are not high.

Always a great meal at the Purple Mango, great food, top quality, good price. Nice range of drinks too and a friendly atmosphere all round. It might be my local Indian restaurant but I'd still make a journey to it if I lived further away. My wife and many of our friends frequent it multiple times every year and we've never had a bad experience. Would definitely recommend.

Can’t really understand the good reviews here. Just very poor service, there were plenty of waiters but they just seemed to be walking around and not doing much. Long wait to take drinks orders, food wait was well over an hour, and little things like not checking if we wanted more drinks when they delivered food or even just looking over to check. I had to physically get up and go and ask for a drinks menu. People on table next to us actually walked off and left as they were waiting so long. The restaurant was not full. The food was distinctly average. Disappointed given the reviews here,

I was quite disappointed with our meal here last Saturday evening. We’d driven over from Dunstable to meet friends, as we’d heard good reviews about it. They’d clearly squashed the tables together to fit in extra diners tonight, as we felt like sardines; it was almost impossible to squeeze out to visit the loo! We were also sat underneath an air con unit blowing hot air onto our heads. Had to ask twice for the poppadums. My dish, their new speciality, was the Purple Mango Nawaz with king prawns, which came with both rice and naan, but at £16.95 I expected it to be so much better. I opted for the version without chillies, but it was soggy and bland, totally without the exciting, mouth watering flavours promised in the description. The other mains were apparently good, I wish I’d opted for a simple Biryani or similar. Finally, what on Earth was that music they were playing through the very loudspeakers? Like nothing I’ve ever heard in an Indian restaurant before. Wailing and tuneless. So, poor from my viewpoint, but ok from our friends, other than the long initial wait, the lack of room, and the dreadful music. When we have the Vantage five minutes walk from our door in Dunstable, I certainly won’t be driving back here in a hurry.

The restaurant was not busy on this Tuesday evening when we arrived at opening time. I had booked a table and on mentioning this was acknowledged with my name. A warm welcome was followed by excellent and attentive service. Our food order was delicious and of sufficient quantity that we struggled to finish our meal. Tables were not crowded together as they can be sometimes and the atmosphere was conducive to a quiet conversation over our meal.

I wish we had one of these restaurants in Devon,great food at a fantastic price.We arrived on Sunday,the deal on the food was brilliant..we will be back next time we are visiting

We attended the Thursday evening banquet menu. Great tasting food, and fantastic service, they just could not do enough for you, and they were very patient as we could not decide lol. Excellent value great atmosphere, will dine here again

As a regular I do enjoy the food until recently... tough chicken...portion sizes have become small in fact 6 pieces of chicken in the eat in chicken masala and the take away masala has alot more....staff always seem to be arguing with each other not a good atmosphere

Had a terrible meal and service last year there however thought I’d give it another go with a takeaway as we had friends around. Service on collect was ok this time but food was awful again. 4 out of 6 of us where sick with stomach problems during the night and day after. I’m afraid Purple mango no more chances. Will never go back again.

Staff there were super nice ! And food came pretty fast and in good quality. Enjoy the dinning a lot. we had the banquet set menu and it was so cheap. Only 12.95 per person for 3 courses meal. The size of the food was so big that we couldn’t even finish them. Lovely restaurant with lovely staff in general :D

We use this restaurant on a regular basis for a takeaway but on this occasion we ate in the restaurant. The service is excellent. Very friendly staff and fabulous food. 100% reccomend

Purple Mango is our local curry house and we would highly recommend it to anyone. The staff are always welcoming and attentive. The dishes are all very well cooked and of a high standard. All the favourites are available on their extensive menu. Takeaways are also a firm favourite. Looks like they do a roaring trade there. Good value. Perhaps more chef’s specialties would assist choice. Biryanis are the best.

Despite the restaurant not being open for lunch, we were offered the lunchtime menu. There were 10 of us. We had the whole place to ourselves and the food was superb, most definitely the best indian food I've had for a long time. Absolutely delicious and fabulous value and great service. Would highly recommend

I came with my family I think that's probably the best Indian food I ever have in Milton Keynes. you don't have to wait long beer of course is nice to and service. Will be returning

Visited Purple Mango with 15 of my colleagues from work for banquet night on Thursday. Can you really go wrong with a starter/main/side AND rice or naan all for £11.95 i dont think so. Been here loads of times and i LOVE it. Really great value even if you dont come on banquet night but as always they were really busy and more than happy to accomdate our rather large group! By all accounts everyone enjoyed their dishes! Great service, nothing was too much for the staff! Lovely atmosphere - thanks so much!

Menu is extensive with something for everyone. Quality of food is sublime; fantastic flavours. What is really impressive is the quality has been maintained over many years. Best Indian restaurant in Milton Keynes in my opinion.

Exquisite Bengali food in a friendly atmosphere served by polite staff who will advise on the menu. Look out for entertainment nights and low cost lunches and special nights.

We booked a table for a birthday party meal for 7pm, the food arrived at 9.20pm a 2 hour 20 min wait!! when it arrived it was luke warm and just dumped on the table. Drinks took an age to come aswell. We were told that their priority is the take away service not the customers in the restaurant, and that we would upset the chef by complaining of such a lengthy wait for our food. We will not be going back. Shocking services, bad mannered staff who did not want to deal with the fact we were complaining and then complaining about us as we left the building!!

Lovely family meal out with the kids. Nice welcome by the staff and quick service. Nice food but, nothing really exceptional to be honest. Price was ok for the food I'm told banquet nights are better value for your money. Overall it was a pleasant meal.

2nd time here in recent months and it was great on both occasions. Buffet night is a starter, a main course, rice or nan and a side dish from the menu, not some dried out help, yourself buffet. Food is fresh and well prepared, service is superb. Great value for money. Would recommend.

Came to visit Bletchley Park, this was the nearest to the hotel.. did not fancy the Harvester.. buffet night and there was plenty, nice peeps & a nice friendly atmosphere..

First time eating here last night. Staff extremely welcoming and seriously could not do enough for you. Food was delicious and prompt. (Although, 1st time trying the lime chutney with my popadoms, not for me 🤭). Restaurant really clean also. Would definitely recommend 👍

Can’t say enough how great this place is. £11.95 for a starter, main, side and rice or naan with a coffee is extremely amazing value. The amount of food we had as a group of 7 was crazy. The staff were all lovely too, one of the guys was very funny and attentive, great customer service. Highly recommend!

We often go here on the Banquet nights at least once a month, with a drink the bill is normally around £30.00 for the 2 of us. you get 4 courses each and a coffee at the end. Great Value.

Been going for meals here since it opened, either with friends or with just my hubby. I celebrated my 50 th there nearly 6 years ago, with friends and Keith celebrated his 60 th there on the 19 th Jan, with 40 friends and family. Food was delicious, hot and staff very accommodating and polite and friendly. Lots of our friends who had not been there before were impressed and said they would return.

We go out every month to a new curry house with few lads from estate and we have been here more than once and think its one of the best we've been to - which is a lot!

Booked a table for a joint birthday/wedding anniversary, we are both in the OAP bracket and have never been to an Indian restaurant before.

I live locally, and treat myself to a carry-out at the Purple Mango now and then. I've never regretted the experience. The food is delicious and there's a good range of dishes to choose from; there's also a well-stocked bar for diners or people waiting to pick up.

I’ve been to this curry house MANY times! The staff and the food are faultless. They do a takeout service, so that you can enjoy the experience at home as well! No delivery service as of yet, but maybe soon!? Sitting in and eating is the best experience however. The staff are attentive and lovely. Each visit is personal and unique!

Visited for a joint birthday and Mother’s Day meal. Service and food were both excellent, we had a really lively evening and as a bonus it just happened to be £11.99 for a set of courses. We will definitely visit again.

We have been coming to this restaurant for over 10 years now (eating in and getting takeaways too). I can honestly say that we have never had a bad meal or experience here. It's a firm favourite with all the family and many of our friends too. The service is great, the food delicious and at a good price. They also do a great value for money buffet menu on on Sunday, Wednesday & Thursday, which I can also highly recommend.

Excellent banquet menu. Lots of choice and good freshly prepared food without any greasiness that you get in many Indian restaurants. Great ambience and service. This is our nearest restaurant within walking distance of our home and we have only visited a few times but every time we agree we should visit more often as we always enjoy our meal.

Small restaurant with pleasant attentive service. We were 30 people but restaurant coped well, no silly "choose your items beforehand" nonsense. Had the massala fish for starters, really lovely. Main course was "Purple Mango Special" which is a dish I've never found anywhere else :)...

I went to Purple Mango for an evening meal on a Wednesday. I was on my own as I was...

I go to Purple Mango quite often and always have a nice time. I've tried many different dishes and liked all of them, I especially love some of the sauces that come with the popadoms. I like the atmosphere of the restaurant and the staff are always super nice. The portions are big and value for money great. Everything is clean, well decorated and it's just a very pleasant place! Honestly nothing negative to say.

This curry house has an unusual internal decor, a bit odd for the solo diner- the menu was extensive (and unusually clean!). The popadom chutneys were above average, great lime pickle not overloaded with lime chunks. I chose the green masala chicken - it said spicy, and it made me sweat! Very tasty and impressively large in serving size. The garlic Nan was well cooked and not soaked in ghee. I left very happy, with no next-day consequences to report.

We went to this restaurant for the first time on my birthday hoping to have a nice meal and good time. The food was worse than disgusting and the service was appalling. My advice is stay away and spend your money elsewhere because neither did we have a decent meal nor did we have a good time as the manager at the restaurant was acting like MR KNOW IT ALL.

walked into restaurant with my mum, treated like royalty, lovely! the restaurant is super clean, starched table cloths and nice clean seating, feels fresh and modern. the waiter was very kind and courteous to my elderly mum. The food was fab! everything was hot and of lovely quality, good sized portions too. highly recommended for all

Surprised to find the restaurant just about full at 1830 but it was a 'banquet' evening. The atmosphere was busy and rather noisy as there are no windows in the restaurant and the ceiling is low.

Visited early on a quiet evening. Its a nice restaurant, spacious clean and with impressive decor and you wouldn’t think you were in the middle of a Milton Keynes housing estate. Unfortunately the waiting staff didn’t seem to be too keen to see us , and throughout the meal we were treated curtly, food was delivered and put down on the table without any words.

Lovely restaurant. Beautiful atmosphere. Staff are friendly and polite. Tables are well laid. As always we enjoyed a beautifully cooked meal. Portion sizes are generous and satisfying.

Had several meals/take aways here as my friend lives round the corner, food is always ready on time and is really good, can't fault the place

Booked a table for four here a few weeks ago and when we turned up we were told that we would have to wait for our table because we had arrived late. All of which would have been perfectly reasonable but for the fact that we had actually booked for 7.45 and arrived at 7.30. the waiter was very argumentative and unhelpful and of course it set the tone for a not particularly enjoyable meal.Having said that the food was OK and the bill wasn't too expensive. We could have done without the waiter from hell though.

The service is speedily efficient if a little too fast and furious if you know what I mean. The food is good. Unusual decor which is interesting. Comfortable seating. If you have a noisy family or friends group you will be comfortable here. If you want quiet, privacy and calm you may get that on a quiet night. We go about once a year and it's always been heavingly busy so they must be doing something right. Plenty of parking. Easy access off V11 Tongwell Street via A5 Caldecotte or M1 j 13/A421/V11 southbound.

I went here with a few work friends for an evening meal. The group opted for the 10.95 meal deal. This was probably the mistake. The quality of the food was very poor, and lacked substance. By this I mean that the dishes lacked the main ingredients. The meat was lacking from the curry, there was only one piece of paneer in the mutter panner. The keema nan had very little meat in it. On top of this the beer was expensive. Wont be going again.

Had a fantastic meal. The menu choice is great with delicious food! Staff were friendly and helpful. Service a bit slow. But will be back!

Have visited Purple Mango a few times now and it's definitely my go to Indian Restaurant. The staff are friendly and accommodating and service is swift. The food has always been to a good standard and there's plenty of choice.I did laugh this evening though as because we hadn't finished our meals we asked if we could take the leftovers away with us. We were then provided with takeaway boxes to put our food in ourselves. This is the first time I've ever had to pack my own leftovers up but it didn't really bother me!There's not much else in the immediate vicinity to visit but if you're seeing something at 'The Venue' then this restaurant is a walk away and the best option.

Visited during the week and was suprised to see how busy it was, it was more like being on a saturday night. Seemed to be quite a few staff, but service was slow and not very freindly and we had to keep chasing to get drinks and event to place our food order. I have rated this as very good based on the quality of the food, it was very good and had no complaints at all for that or the menu choice
