Amazing service, the staff was super sweet and caring. The food was ok, but not as good as expected... The gnocchi were missing personality, the taste was nice but not as tasty as could have been. All of the other plates were fine but the portions were way too small. I did not expect to get a huge portion but 2 slices of duck breast... I think 3 stars reflect the actual value. The dessert was not as nice as you expected it to be, we were expecting a nice gelato but it was mediocre... We paid quite a lot for what we had, thus I would not recommend this place.

I went here for a work do. The food was really good and the drinks were also good. The only complaint is that the pub is located out in the boonies so it is hard to get to.

Everything about our lunch at the Purefoy was beautifully done. Genuine, extremely warm and thoughtful service (we were given a table and seating to accommodate my mother’s mobility and back/neck issues ). Every element of the meal was flawless with keen attention to detail. Thank you so much.

I have to say I drove from Bristol to have a business lunch at this cosy pub I have to say it exceeded all my expectations the food was excellent the staff were professional and so welcoming the young lady who goes to Cardiff Uni was especially helpful excellent if you are in the area yes make sure you visit this establishment can't say enough about my experience

Stopped by for a sandwich lunch at the Purefoy. Started with a lovely pint of Flower Pots Perridge Ale. Had the rump steak sandwich and my partner the Welsh Rarebit. Both were spot on, and served with a delicious bowl of home made soup. The Purefoy is a really chilled pub and service was great. What’s not to like? Absolutely nothing. 10/10.

We live about 30mins away and came here for the first time for a country walk on the South Downs. Took the dog for a long circular walk having parked at the pub before it opened. Arrived back at about 1pm and went into the ‘pub’ side for a drink and lunch. All made very welcome by friendly bar staff. Decor is lovely with gastropub feel without being OTT. We both had sandwiches from the lunch menu - one fish goujons and one Welsh rarebit. Each came with a side salad and delicious cup of homemade celeriac & hazelnut soup. The sandwiches themselves were both delicious. We ended up sharing them as so good. Also they were a generous size. When paying we were given homemade chocolates with the bill. Lovely touch. The bar staff, kitchen crew and owners are really trying hard and they deserve to do really well. We noticed the pub was closed on Mon and Tues due to the whole cost of living crisis. I hope lots of people support this lovely pub through these difficult times We will defo be back.

Went to the resteraunt on a Wednesday evening. Can not recommend it too highly. Food, service and atmosphere were perfect. It was not cheap but it was special and well worth the money.

Had an amazing New Year's Eve dinner here and every course was just delicious and so much fun - like the take on 'egg and soldiers' for a starter which was a confit of egg yolk with an asparagus puree popped into the egg cup with brioche soldiers on the side topped with an onion jam. It tasted so good! Love the service too and we had a special dietary requirement and that was taken care of beautifully . It feels like a posh place to eat in but it is such a relaxed atmosphere . We also had a fabulous take away Xmas lunch where you picked up the food the night before and then just popped in the oven for an hour on the day. All came with easy instructions . Took all the effort out of cooking Xmas day and the turkey with chestnut stuffing with red wine jus was yummy. In terms of value for money it is very good when you take into account the expertise and deliciousness that goes into the food! What I also love is you can go in to the pub, with the dogs , just have a (very nice ) pint of ale and a portion of home made pork scratchings etc and are equally welcomed. We will be back in 2023!

We eat as a treat there, every few weeks. The food is utterly amazing. Everyone is friendly and lovely atmosphere, relaxed, 'pubby' feel but still special. I've been fortunate enough with work opportunities to eat in high end restaurants in London and food is just if not better! Recommend any of the soups they are amazing and the homemade bread and special butter is awesome! Beautiful meat and combinations of flavours! Thanks A and T x

Booked a table for myself and my wife for her birthday. Easy booking. Varied menu. I can see why the restaurant was full because I can honestly say this was some of the most delicious, tastiest food I have ever had. Visited here for the first time this May for my birthday and now can't help but keep on popping back! Have had the Taster menu twice now and it is such amazing value compared to other places and excellent for a special treat .On our first visit Gordon came and explained the menu to us as we weren't really sure whether to order it and that was so nice. Really like the pub classics- like the ribs too. Dogs are welcome in the pub area and the service is friendly and efficient. You never feel rushed and feel like you can relax here. I think it's great to find a place where you can get really good simple pub food or have a very special tasting menu just depending on how you feel. Beer is good and wine is perfectly nice. Nothing not to like . They have it just right.

Over the last few years Gordon Stott has just got better and better. The food combinations and presentation is sublime. The best place to eat for many square miles!

Due to another lockdown and another missed trip to the coast the purefoy came up trumps again. Had a special fishy birthday lunch for my birthday in June and once again they came up with a fantastic take away lunch for my husband we've been amazed the quality of fish is way above anything we could have bought locally. Wanted to be seasonal so huge prawns scallops better than I've ever had, mackerel 100 x better than supermarket and mussels in great sauce, frites nice and crispy, fennel salad and garlic bread and we were supposed to be in Cornwall so megrim sole if you've not tried it it's more than lovely. We managed to get an early Saturday evening table for 2 at this cosy gastro pub. There were covid related restrictions in place however the socially distanced welcome was fine. The young waiting staff are all attentive and we chose the 4 course tasting menu that offered smaller portions of the main courses. We treated ourselves to 2 glasses of English sparkling wine and I had a large glass of the house red. Each of the courses of pork tenderloin, cod, beef fillet and chocolate delice with sorbet were really well presented and nicely cooked.An enjoyable evening and a pub meal that exceeded expectations.

Visited for Sunday lunch and we were blown away by the quality of the food. The flavours and quality were magnificent, beyond what you would expect from a pub. The waiting staff were a credit to the establishment and so personable, taking time to ask if we had been before etc , makes you feel so welcome . We asked for a special request and this was met without hesitation! Very much looking forward to visiting again.

Absolutely fantastic lunch today - from the bread with hummus and herb butter right through to the shortbread with coffees and the chocolate truffles with the bill. Superb food. Superb service. 😊

This had all the indications of great food, but was very disappointed.First, I was asked for my allergens after indicating I had some, good start to know they take this seriously , only the menu gave one option (pork medallion). I chose that (didn't have a choice really) only for them to tell me I wouldn't be getting the special sauce that comes with it. I queried this, but was they add flavour enhancers and wheat etc to the food and could gaurantee it would be MSG free...oh. They did tho prepare a separate sauce. On arrival, the food looked good, however my pork was practically raw rather than pink. ~The sauce was extremely salty and drowned out the flavour of much of the food. There was one large carrot, and I had to order an extra potatoes (which were excellent). My friend ordered the duck, this was a joke, three pieces of duck breast no bigger than 2.5 cm and one small leg type duck fritter. I wouldn't feed a child than amount of food for risk of then still being hungry. My friend tried to order carrots, but was told they don't do a side of carrots (even the I had one on my plate) Very disappointing, I would say this food is trying to live up to fine food, but is in fact NOT. The chef showed inflexibility in not being able to adjust his menu slightly (It was very quiet) to provide carrots when he had them, and adjust the additives , so in effect THIS PLACE IS POOR FOR CHOICE, PORTION SIZE, ALLERGEN AVOIDANCE AND PROPERLY COOKED MEAT.

Just back from an evening at The Purefoy celebrating our wedding anniversary. It really is different class. The service is impeccable, which is not easy to get right, and a lot of places get wrong, hear it was floorless. The food is easily Michelin star. The setting is super relaxed, very covid secure, price of food and wine is very reasonable. Literally could not fault any element, the tasting menu is exceptional! Would really rate this up there with the best I've ever been too. Well done Purefoy, well done Chef, well done waitresses.!! We are already planning our next visit.

First class service and delicious food. They were also very conscious of the COVID rules with the strict one way system and wearing masks etc but implemented this in a friendly way.

This is truly something of a hidden gem. Went here with some very picky eaters, including a vegetarian. Had what was described by one of the party as “the best meal this year”. Well worth going for something a little different as nothing disappointed. Not only was the food excellent so was the service. Polite, prompt, smiling and not intrusive. The only issue now is everyone wants to go back for the tasting menu and getting diaries to work can be a problem. May have to go twice.
