Punjabi Charing Cross in Glasgow City

After reading some reviews about this place me and my friend decided to go and see for ourselves if the place met the expectations, and WOW! This is the best Indian place I have been at in Glasgow, the service was brilliant, we ended up talking to the owner for 30 minutes and he was such a humble and down-to-earth guys. The food as excellent, with authentic indian spices making it really stand out! I highly recommend this place for everyone!

After reading some great reviews for this place my girlfriend and I decided to order a takeaway and try it for ourselves . We were very happy with our food . For starters we had haggis pakora which was very tasty along with the dips . For the mains my girlfriend ordered lamb tikka while I ordered a south Indian garlic chilli chicken. The both of them were really tasty although I would have preferred more chilli and garlic however enjoyed the take on a classic dish . The peshwari nan was great . Overall enjoyed the food and would definitely order again or even better pop in one day and sample even more delights .

I love this place, usually order take away and they are always so accommodating and helpful! Amazing curry and even better naans. This has become my regular curry go to place, even my boyfriend who usually takes some convincing to order a curry is always excited for their food!!

I had missed this place during the initial lockdown period. When I recently got a take away, the food was as delicious as it was before. So many gluten free options. They deliver the food themselves and the driver kept to social distancing rules while delivering!! Brilliant!! Thank you!! I highly recommend!!!!

Went at a quiet early evening in February. The owner was incredibly friendly and helpful and the food was very good. Portions were generous. Only negative was that the room was rather cold and could do with a little work to improve the ambiance. On a crowded evening I am sure it would be a better atmosphere.

Really great service - Taq was so friendly, helpful and honest in advising us on what dishes we might like and they even made us a dish that wasn't on the menu that my partner fancied. Food was lovely. We used a Tastecard so amazing value for money. Had a great chat with Taq as well - will be back again one day

Another successful curry night was had here at the Pedlar and Spice. By that I don't mean that this was a repeat visit; I mean that it was a good choice for the group I was with, who go for regular curry nights and always try to find somewhere new. I chose this restaurant for a number of reasons, but mainly because it had such good reviews. We were not disappointed. Taq was a fantastic host, and he kept us right with how many rices and naan breads to order. He also suggested sharing starters, and my goodness, the chicken wings were the tastiest chicken wings any of us had ever had! Even for the folk who don't normally go for chicken wings, like me! I was quite happy to get stuck in once everyone else raved about them! Then came the curries. Delicious, and I am pleased to say not too heavy like you get in some other curry houses. I left feeling satisfied but not uncomfortably full. I also left with the lingering taste of garlic naan...not that that is necessarily a bad thing for most, but for me the garlic naan was a wee bit too garlicky, if that makes sense! Restaurant was super quiet given what is going on in our world just now, but Taq gave us very welcoming and personal service and he deserves a shout-out. Thank you for a memorable evening!

Me and my mate went to this fantastic Indian restaurant the other night. The Noori and Rogan Josh we had were by far the best curry we’ve ever eaten and after trying Spiced onions for the first time we fell in love with it. The lamb we both had in the curry was very tender and had lots of flavour. The staff were incredible friendly, who we had a great chat with about the restaurant amongst other things. We hope to be coming back to Glasgow some time in the summer, and we will definitely be coming here for another meal.

Great range of fantastic food, owner (Taq) is really friendly and accommodating for tastes. Highly recommended.

We visited first in October last year and were determined to return on our next trip to Glasgow. Excellent food again this second time with our choice guided by very helpful staff. He told us that the portions were generous. True, it prevented us ordering wasteful extras. Just less than £60 fed three of us quite amply. What a shame this place is not in our home city. Roll on visit number 3!

Visited here multiple times with my partner, family and friends. Would recommend it to any one who likes Indian food, my favourite in Glasgow by far! Punjabi Garlic Chilli is the one I’d recommend to everyone, pakora is delicious too. The staff are very helpful when ordering food and offer recommendations! The owner is great and will accommodate any changes to dishes that you require! Overall it always gets a 10/10 from us when visiting, definitely recommend!

Absolutely brilliant! Been here twice now and the staff have always been super lovely and helpful. Incredible food every time. My grandparents live in Sheffield and every time they come and visit me in Glasgow they ask to come here!

I visited on a very busy Saturday night and was amazed at the staff for they were so attentive. They had great knowledge of the menu and offered genuine suggestions. The food was amazing! If asked for some dishes that weren’t too spicy and they were exactly as described to me by the staff. The owner was very friendly and kept everyone entertained. Highly recommended restaurant for authentic food and a great atmosphere.

Really enjoyed the food here. Tried the Tava which was new to me. It’s like an Indian fajita, and very very tasty. Not dry like chicken tandoori and not a wet sauce like a normal curry. Comes with Dahl as well and rice. Would definitely have it again. Large portions. Service was excellent helping me to make the right choice. Complimentary popadoms was a nice touch.

Visited on spur on moment for curry. Tasty starters , lovely garlic naan , mains ok . My curry a little bland , but it was probably my choice. Really friendly service. Would go back , but choose a different main next time.

Mouth is still watering, having finished off last nights leftovers. We’ve been here before but more than a year ago, we stay in the East of the M8, given how good it is, we are surprised to get a table on a Friday night, although we did go early.

Standout Indian/Punjabi Restaurant. Great atmosphere, excellent friendly service, generous portions but most importantly superb cuisine.

Had onion bhajis, chicken noori and chef's special rice. Very tasty and filling. A great place for delicious curry and a nice atmosphere.

Tak is a great guy. We arrived to a big welcome and taken straight to our table in the lovely modern resturant with old pictures from India and possible family. There are lots of soft lighting all around the resturant and the rear of the bar and the dividing wall you have great use of the crates displaying the bottles behind he bar.

We have visited the restaurant twice and both times the service and food was outstanding. The manager is welcoming and his enthusiasm supports the whole experience. I am a curry lover and have visited the traditional Glasgow haunts many times... this restaurant is one of the best... sorry THE best. A hidden gem - you must try!

We visited as a family of four, early on a Saturday evening in mid February. As a family of Punjabi heritage we often cook Punjabi food at home and know what entails a quality dish. The chicken tava dish is simply the best Chicken dish we have had at a Punjabi restaurant (mainly eating out in Birmingham and Glasgow). All the food was excellent, the service was very helpful and engaging. The owner Mr Pall was incredibly friendly and happy to talk about the history of his family whose pictures adorn they walls. This is a true gem, by far the best Indian Punjabi food in Glasgow

We came across this little place completely by accident while staying nearby and it truly is a fantastic restaurant.

Went for a family meal last week. We ordered mixed grills, garlic mushrooms and pakoras for starters. Everyone enjoyed the mixed grill and chicken pakoras also went down well. The garlic mushrooms were outstanding. For mains we ordered the chicken mulaidhar and Punjabi garlic chilli. Both dishes were cooked perfectly and had a nice kick of chilli. Have been a few times to Pedlar and Spice and will defo be back as the food never disappoints.

Do not be fooled by the high number of positive reviews the impartial truth is this place is overrated, over priced and poor quality.

Lovely restaurant with good service and an interesting menu that offers something different to the standard curry house dishes. Well worth a visit.

First time that I had been to this restaurant the staff was Lovely and very welcoming the food was delicious and looked amazing had a great night with my family and will definitely been going back ,well done guys !

Delicious meal couldn’t recommend enough. !! I had the Chasni and it was the best one I ever had . The staff were really friendly and the restaurant is well decorated . The lady working at the bar was very lovely and made me a tasty gin with a slice of grapefruit (which I had never had before but it really complimented the gin !!) Will definitely be back. Well done guys bravo :)

Pretty empty restaurant (we had booked) but it took an age to get our food on the table! Place was very cold on entry and light bulbs were continuously flickering and need replacing. Starters were decent but the main courses were pretty average when they eventually came. Lamb tough in one dish. Card machine not working but waiting staff were pretty good. Had been to this place when it was The Punjabi and it was excellent. Doubt we’ll be back.

Emailed a reservation request for a group of nine people for a Friday night on Wednesday and Taq (the manager/owner?) called me back to confirm. A lively touch and a very friendly chap. On arrival, restaurant interior was cool and practical, not the cliched velvet curtains and ropey music (in fact the background=d music included some brilliant Roy Orbison!!!). Taq’s patter andservice was fabulous, offering great advice on menu, spice and flavour, quantities to order etc in a very friendly manner. Then the food arrived. And it was sensational! Flavourful, tasty, varied. Miles away from the over spiced, curry paste and double cream yucky stuff you get in some places in Glasgow especially. Absolutely brilliant, we will definitely be back!

I’ve been going here since it was Punjabi, it’s been The Pedlar and Spice for a couple of year’s now and it’s better than ever! Taq and his staff are always friendly and very helpful, they will explain the menu to you and help you decide on the perfect meal for you. The food is exquisite!!! Every dish I’ve tried has been full of flavour, packed with spices, the meat is always tender and delicious no matter which option you prefer. Taq is a very people orientated person and will stand and talk to you on a range of subjects. The restaurant is located in an easy to get to part of Glasgow, with direct access to the M8 a stones throw from the restaurant. If you are out and about in the city centre and would like a GREAT meal, then definitely head along to The Pedlar and Spice, you will NOT be disappointed.

Came across this gem of a place recently whilst out with friends, we were greeted with the manager Taq who was warm and very friendly taking us through the menu .

We had booked in here for my 30th birthday bash curry karaoke food was fab service was on point any requests they where happy to fulfil our needs, if ever any special nights would recommend highly for a private function or even a night of fine dining.

went to this restaurant with friends for a xmas night out we were lucky enough to go when the karaoke was on unexpected surprise, food was amazing staff were very friendly had a few drinks with our meal and the final bill wasn't too bad ,will definitely be going back .

We visited here between Christmas and New year and were warmly welcomed by the friendly owner. The restaurant has a very relaxed manner with potato boxes for a bar and quirky hand made tables. If you're into fancy drapes and Indian style music then this isn't it. The food is clearly freshly made and the onion bhaji is fantastic. The curries were superbly tasty with next to no oil which we like and the garlic naan is up there with the best I've ever tasted. The owner took time with us to ensure everything was as it should have been and he has a great attitude, exemplified by his clearly good relationship with his regulars. Glasgow us competitive for good curries and this is not list on the owner who should do really well if this standard is maintained. We will certainly be back for more excellent curries.

We came for dinner during a weekend visit to Glasgow. Decided to order the haggis bites after the owner recommended them and because we are shameless tourists. Incredible! Followed by two delicious curries and the best peshwari naan we've ever had.

Everyone in there was lovely, the owner took the time to chat with us and give us recommendations for activities and bars, the food was unreal!!! Garlic naan was the best I’ve ever had, 10/10 would go again!

Family night out on our stopover home to Aberdeen. Plumped for this place as reviews were very good and also was close to our hotel. Arrived and the owner did a bit of shuftyin the tables on the mezzanine to accommodate our party of six. Drinks were ordered then came the important bit of picking our food. Haggis Pakora, channa poori, mince samosas, butterfly prawns, onion bhajis, and mixed pakora. Starters were a good size. Bhajis were huge. All were so very good. Next came our mains lamb rogan josh, butter chilli chicken, prawn kahari, chicken tikka masala, lamb dopiaza and chicken jaiphuri, with saffron rice and the most amazingly light and flavoursome garlic naan bread. Food was outstanding and we shall be back on our next trip. The owner was fun and very helpful. All in all a great experience and one I would heartily recommend to all.

Our group of five visited on Christmas Eve - upstairs was quiet but there was a large party downstairs. Everything was very relaxed - we were in no rush. Service was excellent. We spoke at length with the owner Tak(?) who was very helpful and attentive. Our food was terrific. The onion bhaji starter was made like we use to get in Cafe India 30 years ago - yum! All the other starters, veg, chicken and haggis pakora plus spiced onions and pops were great. Two lamb bhoonas were cleared as was a chicken chasni and chicken tikka masala. Tak happily served channa puri as a main course for our veggie. Nans (garlic and peshwari) looked, smelled and tasted amazing (huge elephant ears). I scoffed the rice. Tak also made up a cocktail style drink for our friend. Overall, we really enjoyed our visit to The Pedlar & Spice and will *definitely* revisit in the future.

Great food. Onion Bhaji particularly good. Excellent service. Highly recommended. I read good reviews but had not gone in as it seemed quiet big mistake - go in even if it is quiet, much better than the other local curry places.

We had a bit of a slow start waiting a while for drinks, they didn't have one of the starters we asked for and one of us was served the wrong main dish.

Meal was excellent I wasn’t sure what to order and got a meal tailored to my request. Owner was excellent came out and made sure we had everything suggested correct portions of rice, had the Nann cut for us and shook all our hands when we left. Best Indian meal I have had in a while it was delicious.

Brilliant staff, very well priced and flavoursome food. Good selection of gin available and again, well priced. Thoroughly enjoyed. Garlic naan is obscenely good.

The best indian food I’ve ever had. Got a vegan dish that was perfectly spiced, and the garlic nanbread was amazing! The price was also very affordable. I also want to mention the staff that was extremely nice and helpful👏

Well people this restaurant might be a bit out from the centre of Glasgow but I will say it’s well worth the walk or taxi fare away. A family run restaurant with food cooked in traditional ways. The owner took time to come and sit with us to share his passion for the food he cooks as well the selection of gin he serves. Full marks to Taq and his team, we will be back.

Looking for something new brought us to The Pedlar and Spice. Nice stroll from city center and if you think its too far, be sure to reconsider or you will miss out of one of best places to dine in Glasgow.

We had a great dinner here. We chose this restaurant as we had recently arrived and did not want to venture too far from our hotel - and it had a good set of TA reviews. We were not disappointed as the welcome and friendliness of the staff was second to none. While I wouldn’t quite support the overall rating this restaurant currently holds (#13 in Glasgow) the food was very good (actually rather chilly-hot). Recommended.

Back in Glasgow for business, myself and a colleague had a beer in the Bon Accord then went for some food here. It was very quiet which isn't always a good sign but wow was it worth it. Food was lovely - the haggis pakora a must (was recommended to me by other diners), main course and sides also lovely. Portions were good size without being overpowering - especially the starters which in some places leave you no room for the main or in others leave you gnawing the table whilst waiting on the main - the pakora was just the right amount.

Went for my birthday dinner with family, the team could not have been more accommodating. The restaurant looks superb, all refurbished. Modern, yet cosy and inviting. The food is to die for, every dish equally gorgeous. If I had to pick a favourite, it’s probably the chicken tikka garlic butter, with a bit of peshwari naan and pilau rice. The team in the restaurant are so friendly and really take time to make sure all of their guests are having the best experience. This restaurant is a real jewel in Glasgow, and I would highly recommend it to anyone.

My mom and I decided to come to this restaurant because of how close it was to our air bnb. We are so happy we did!!! As soon as we sat down, the owner working noticed my mom was cold (we’re not used to the Glasgow chill), and he moved the heater closer to her without us even asking! He answered all of our questions and was very helpful with helping us choose our food. Once we got the food we were even more impressed!!! Amazing curry. Not to mention the prices were pretty cheap as well for the great quality of the food. I definitely recommend the Pedlar and spice if you’re in Glasgow! 10/10

I found this restaurant on a wet Glaswegian night as I didn't want to stray too far from my hotel. It is only about 5 minute walk from the Hilton. Due to the weather, the restaurant was fairly quiet but the owner, Tak, made me very welcome and proceeded to deliver a wonderful meal. A very nice relaxing experience overall and I hope to call in again next week when in town.

I can highly recommend the Pedlar and Spice. The atmosphere is relaxed, the owner (Tak, I believe) being very friendly and made me welcome as I was by myself. I had Lamb Tikka Rogan Josh with Saag Paneer on the side - both dishes were fantastic, well balanced spices and great flavour from good quality ingredients. Portions are healthy as well, you definitely won't leave here hungry! Carried on chatting with the owner after paying, sound guy running a sound place.

Monday night so predictably quiet, away with work and found this place within walking distance of hotel. Great menu, really tasty food, generous portions. Tack (spelling? Sorry!) was friendly, helpful and informative as our host and it turns out a great chef too.

We chose this as it was near our hotel with good reviews. We were not disappointed! We've had many an indian meal but it was nice to see some different curries on the menu with some punjab specialities. I wasn't sure what to try and the owner was happy to chat about the choices. My son had a rogan josh and i had punjabi chilli garlic. We had chef special rice and a keema nan. It was all absolutely delicious! And the service was excellent. This place is just off sauchihall street so take the time to veer off the main drag for just 1 minute and you won't be disappointed!

Visited here with my friend for dinner. She is blind and the staff were very friendly and helpful and couldn't do enough to help us (even to offer us an extra table when our table had a lot of food on it). The food is delicious and great portion size. I cant wait to visit again (and will be having the garlic mushrooms again as they were particularly yummy)

We were looking on Tripadviser for a good Indian restaurant near to the King's theatre and bingo found this little gem on North Street!!

Stopped by on a Monday and it was quiet, It was a bit difficult to spot from the street, (limitations on signage due to it being a listed building). The owner was very friendly and keen to describe all the dishes to us, the meal tasted freshly prepared with fresh spices and was reasonably priced. I would definitely visit again.

The restaurant and its owner took such amazing care of my wife and I on our first night in Glasgow. With little experience in Indian food, the owner, Taq, personally talked us through different options and gave suggestions when asked. 10/10 would recommend d to anyone who’s looking for quality food, quality ownership/customer service, and great tastes quite different than the majority of diets.

My wife and I had a fantastic meal here tonight. The food and service were both excellent. The owner Taq was very friendly and helpful. The menu had lots of unique options and Taq talked us through some of the dishes to help us decide. I had the chicken liver and hearts appetiser and garlic chilli chicken made to order (extra spicy and with tikka style chicken). My wife had the garlic mushroom appetiser followed by a chicken jaipuri. All of the dishes were excellent. We will definitely be back and can highly recommend this restaurant.

Wife tried Venison curry on the new menu and loved it. Great food all round and the staff couldn’t be friendlier. Highly recommend.

The food and service at the Pedlar and Spice is second to none. Been coming to this restaurant for years and it keeps getting better. There’s a great menu to cater for all tastes and a fantastic gin selection. Taq is incredibly knowledgeable and passionate about the food and his restaurant and is always on hand to ensure that you have a great experience at the Pedlar and Spice.

Found the Koh I noor closed so tried this place and we were not disappointed! Methi ghosh was outstanding! All the accompaniments were of a high standard too. Very friendly and helpful staff

The service here was excellent and the food was amazing. I’ve never had Indian food before and the owner was very accommodating and willing to explain all of the dishes and make recommendations. I would definitely recommend this place to everyone who likes Indian cuisine and would go back again.

Our second visit to Pedlar and Spice did not disappoint! Being a seafood lover I started with the Punjabi Mussels followed by their King Prawn and Fish Tava which was tremendous! My friend had the Lamb Tikka starter followed by Punjabi Garlic Chilli! Taq the owner really was a delight and knows every dish inside out and recommended each dish we had perfectly! Its so nice to go for a meal and truly feel welcome, love every mouthful and not be out of pocket!!

We chose this based on positive TA reviews. It was a quiet Monday night, but we had a fabulous meal as well as having the opportunity to talk to Tak, the owner, who talks passionately about his food. He happily gives advice on dishes and combinations and has opinions that can be trusted. It’s such a treat to meet someone so interested in his restaurant and we wish him well. It’s a little off the beaten track, but absolutely worth a detour. We shared a cracking selection of starters and four fine main courses. Very, very happy. Go and give them your support- you won’t be disappointed.

Solía ir aquí cuando era Punjabi, no lo había sido durante 2 años y descubrí que la propiedad había cambiado, ahora un ambiente mucho mejor para comer, un servicio amable y un nivel de comida ligeramente mejorado, no es que fuera otra cosa que la OMI perfecta . Es un restaurante de comida punjabi centrico, limpio y bonito. Es un sitio muy agradable donde la comida es fantástica, llena de matices en las mezclas de especias y con sabores intensos. Los platos son abundantes y de precios razonables. Además, el personal es muy simpático y amable. Si no conoces mucho la cocina punjabi, te aclaran dudas y te aconsejan bien. En definitiva una opción impecable en el centro de Glasgow.

Just had the most amazing food from this restaurant. Although I was too late to eat in I was able to get food to go. As a vegan I was able to get exactly what I wanted and the food was delicious. One of the best vegan curries I’ve ever experienced! Owner was lovely and very accommodating.
