Mark: 78 Grade: A Excellence in all aspects - congratulations! Products Evaluated: 3-course menu Entrée: Potted salmon, pickled cucumber (25%) Main Course: sea bream filet "Bouillabaisse" with gratin dauphinois (50%) Dessert: Mango panna cotta (25%) Environment et hygiene: Relaxing but still decorated with style. Familial atmosphere. Rather good use of utensils. 7.25/10 Presentation: Slightly pale for the entrée and the dessert but still evidence of care shown. The main course was however attractively presented, with careful positioning or the fish filet. 11.25/15 Portion: The entrée was on the light side but otherwise very good. Well-balanced. 7/10 Taste: Salmon - nice and subtle smokey flavours. Pickles were appropriately prepared without being overwhelming acidic. 7 Sea bream -The skin was very nicely seared and the fillet appropriately cooked if not a bit too much so. Well-marinated with a natural sweetness. The base was fragrant with flavours of saffron, garlic and herbs (could use a bit more) well-balanced. Texture was excellent and the use of shrimps, mussels, funnel and potatoes added variety to the dish. The rouille (?) lacked cayenne pepper and saffron but was still good. The gratin was authentic. 7.75 Crême brûlée - Excellent texture and control of sweetness. The taste of mango was perhaps a bit masked though. 7.25 29.75/40 Service: A tad bit of confusion at the start and the procedure of asling for allergies was omitted. However, this was made up but a good to great degree of hospitality shown. Quite well-paced. 7.25/10 Value: £20.5 for the menu - outstandung for Greater London and for the excellent performance in all aspects! 13.5/15 Bonus: +2

We ate at Provender on 3 January. We ordered the venison and sea bream. After an hour our food had not arrived and we asked the waiter to check what had happened. He came back with our food but it was stone cold. We didn't ask them to reheat it because it would have been overcooked and tough.

LOVE Provender, food is always outstanding. Love their set menu and it is really good value for money. Service is good and a bit French! Perfect for a French Bistro. Would love a bit of back ground music but that would be my only feedback. An update to the children's menu would be a great addition for the new year. Highly recommend it and we love going as a family.

Starters were lovely, pate in particular - although they dont give you enough bread, we had to order more... twice! Mains were decent but not the best I've ever had. A nice local-ish spot. The presentation of every dish was outstanding. Yorkshires perfectly crisp. The pork we had was nice but a bit chewy, and the potatoes had a lovely crisp texture on the outside but were a tad dry inside. Overall, it was not a bad meal. For the price, there was decent value in a large portion. Service was a tad slow, and the servers didn't seem the most knowledgeable, but they were very friendly and checked with the kitchen and other staff when they couldn't answer our questions.

Lovely little bistro serving up a fantastic array of unpretentious French brilliance using really high quality ingredients, plenty of butter and no lack of taste. I went on Thursday with my sister and nephew and had a really lovely time. Strongly recommend the Bouillabaisse, even served with a rouille which it rarely is anywhere in London in actual fact. Great little touch the waiters speak French which was nice to execute. Fantastic service and great atmosphere. French onion soup was cheesy and delicious. Packed full of umami. Pris Fix is very very good value for money. Definitely go here if you're wanting a taste of French nostalgia that isn't a Cote or something substandard.

A group of 8 of us headed to Provender to celebrate a special birthday occasion last Sunday over an extended lazy lunch; and, oh how brilliantly lazy and late it was! With a glass of bubbly in hand, and snacking on the some of the ‘Casse –Croûtes’ (including: flûte à l’ail, arancini, confit de saumon fumé, crevettes fumées with aîoli) we spent a while catching up and perusing the extensive menu. The suggested offerings catered to everyone’s taste & fancies; a few of our party opted for the traditional Sunday lunch (beef / chicken) for main course, whilst others chose dishes including the Tandoori spiced fillet of cod, vegetarian Wellington (my choice) and the dish of the day: Haunch of Venison. All of this was enjoyed after the scrumptious and hearty starters from the ‘Entrées’ selection. Our diners relished the Magret de pigeon, savoured the Terrine de Campagne and delighted in the Escargots à la Bourguignone. I myself chose the Monkfish special, extremely generously proportioned melt in the mouth chunks of tempura fried yumminess. To accompany our meal, we opted for a very reasonably priced Malbec; it was rich and earthy and a perfect complement to our varied dishes. So, big question...did we have room for pudding? Show me a ‘Café Gourmand’ on a menu and ask me to resist... well they did and we didn't...Even though my belly was about to pop, I tucked into the mini desserts with aplomb. I usually head straight to the chocolate on any dessert menu, however on this occasion it was the Panna cotta with cherry coulis which stole my heart; I almost licked the dish clean! We had decided to share a few Cafés Gourmands between us as we were too full to sample the full sized desserts, nonetheless every last sweet treat delivered to the table was eagerly consumed with sheer gourmandise. On the day of our visit, the staff were extremely friendly and attentive, the service was faultless and perfectly timed to suit our leisurely long lunch. The experience as a whole could not have been better. We all left sated and very happy, vowing to return again soon; I just wish I lived a little closer to make this my neighbourhood ‘go to’ restaurant.

This resturant is charging Central London prices although not being in Central London. I used to visit whenever I was in the area once a month but it’s now highly overpriced. Last week, on my last visit - the dessert on the chalkboard was £11 for a choc fondant! I won’t be going back.

This restaurant is our special occasion place to go so my husband booked a table for my 60th birthday celebration with my children. My daughter and partner drove all the way from Brighton to attend. We had a late sitting at 8.15pm but we had to wait quite a while for our drinks to arrive and then a further 45 minutes plus for starters. My meal of scallops followed by steak was lovely but other members of my family were a bit disappointed with their food, so I did feel bad for my daughter who had driven all that way just to be there. Another little disappointment was that although my husband had mentioned the special birthday at booking, there was no recognition of this whatsoever. I'm not saying that we expected any freebies but just that an acknowledgement at welcome or birthday wish would have been a nice touch. Anyway, I think overall I've had better experiences at this restaurant beforehand and at others for that matter.

I went there with my wife and little puppy last night. We sat in the little garden outside the restaurant. As soon as waiter came he said "sorry we are fully booked" although all the tables in the garden were empty (there were approx 8 tables). When he saw me looking at the empty tables he realised we had a little dog and he said "we have no dog policy anyway". The garden is a part of the pavement and there is nothing special on the floor, just normal regular street paving. How does a restaurant in Wanstead not accept a little puppy in the garden? I asked "do you want us to leave?" He said yes please. After about 40 minutes I passed by the restaurant and the tables in the garden were still empty. Apparently they did not want to serve us and made some excuses. We were so offended with this behaviour. This is the very first time We were rejected in a restaurant. So disrespectful!!

Both starters were light, delicious and beautifully presented. Steak was a little on the small side especially given there was a supplement of £3.50 but was well cooked and fine for lunch. They are all consistently 100% professional and delightful. Its a superb restaurant and I cant fault it in any way. This was previously my favourite local restaurant. Yesterday went for lunch and ordered from the blackboard on our table. Asked waitress what was in fishcakes and she said salmon and haddock so I ordered. Nice presentation but sauce contained many mussels! In and out of shells. I asked waitress why this was not mentioned on menu. She got manager to speak to me. Apparently they cannot list all ingredients as there are far too many because 'French cooking is very complicated with many ingredients '. He was very rude and said if I had allergies I should have said. I don't have allergies but don't eat shellfish. Surely such allergy-inducing ingredients should be mentioned on the menu or by the server! Will never return!!

Had read the enthusiastic recommendations and booked a Saturday lunchtime for five knowledgeable diners well in advance. The menu and wine list looked promising, despite the atmosphere being a little too underwhelming. We all appreciate our food, and the five of us got ordering. The vin de maison (Gascogne) was beautifully chilled to the edge, and tap water was supplied speedily. The white bean soup was absolutely delicious, the goat’s cheese mousse very tasty in the salad, but the potted salmon starter was a notably tiny portion. We varied between prix fixe and à la carte, but this did not seem reflected in size or quality. The main courses (chicken, duck burger and steak) all pleased the carnivores, the sea bream was much praised, but the cheese soufflé was rather austere. Could have done with something like broccoli as a complement? By this time the restaurant was packed, and service slipped away. We didn’t feel anyone was assigned or alert to us. It became hard to gain attention for ordering. When eventually someone different came to take down our third course details, they did not know anything about the five unusual cheeses listed on the board (just one of which you could have for this course.) She said she’d get a senior colleague who knew about them to explain. Sadly, when he somewhat reluctantly came over to us, he was almost churlish in his curt and superficial resumé! He gave no impression of knowing or being excited by the original cheese options, and was fairly dismissive. Two of our group were deterred from ordering cheese as a consequence. The service really wasn’t working well by this stage, but the mango crème brûlée was excellent and the Bleu de Basques much appreciated. We had coffees, and thanked the charming young waitress who took payment, but - despite a skilled chef behind the scenes - would we want to go again….?

We love this place. Only been a couple of times for special occasions because it is not cheap but the food and staff are lovely. It is also a very pleasant atmosphere and place to sit and eat

Our first visit to Provender, and will certainly be back. Prix fixe lunch great value, lovely calm ambience, brilliant food (creme brulee was pronunced the best ever!) and service efficient, understated and attentive. The perfect package.

My wife and I went to Provender for their £15 2 course lunch menu. The options were written on a blackboard so I am presuming that they change. I opted for the salmon mousse which came with some beautifully pickled cucumber and crusty bread. My wife had a butternut squash soup. Both starters were excellent and without any faults. For the main I had a steak and chips with peppercorn sauce. I ordered it rare and it was cooked to the correct temperature, the chips were lovely and crisp and the sauce had a deep flavour and creamy texture. My wife had the venison pie, which after trying, I realised was the highlight of the meal. It had proper sizeable chunks of venison and mushroom running through it and it was a good size which would leave you properly full after leaving. Service was warm, friendly and efficient. This is one of the best value for money meals I have had in a long time.

very welcoming staff. I had read about this online and only looked at reviews later as I always check reviews before visiting. it was quiet and the ambience is really good. The burgers were really good and tasty. clean and proper napkins (my son 12 yrs old doesnt wipe his mouth on his sleeve and thinks the sauce was really good - hache) For the amount of money paid, It's almost equivalent to a meal anywhere else but better quality ingredients. I mean, duck burger?? never heard of it until i visited this place

Our first visit, even though we are locals. I never really felt the restaurant seemed - that welcoming from the outside. But I'm glad we popped in today, as the food was lovely, great selection of dishes, good menu. We didn't go for the set lunch... but preferred to try out some more interesting dishes from the main selection. Glad we did. We very much enjoyed our visit...wine was excellent too. The staff were friendly, welcoming and professional. Looking forward to trying out their Sunday menu.
